News: Some big updates are coming to the hotels at the Disneyland Resort. This Spring, Napa Rose will close to undergo a refurbishment that will bring French oak flooring and columns, which is the type of wood used to make wine barrels, new lighting, and materials throughout the restaurant. The High Key Club will open at the Disneyland Hotel, celebrating Disneyland in 1955. The overall aesthetic will be mid-century modern and will nearly double the previous club-level lounge in the Adventure Tower. A second club-level lounge will open at the Grand Californian. The new two-story space will celebrate the California Craftsman style and be located on the 5th and 6th floors overlooking the Great Hall lobby. New decor will added to every guest room, including the Disney Vacation Club Villas. The new suites will feature two bedrooms. The Coco Suite will have Oaxacan [Wah-Hah-Kihn]-style architecture with terracotta tiling, Mexican artisan quilted and woven pieces, a fireplace, and more. The Incredibles Suite will be a mid-century modern design with a “spy-fi” twist. A room designed by Edna Mode herself will be one of the spaces, along with a hand-scanning prop at the entryway, among other special effects. Disney Wonderful World of Sweets, which replaces Marceline's Confectionary opened last week. The shop is spacious and offers many of the same items as Marceline's. Storyland Boutique, which is in the old Wonderground location, also opened offering a ever-changing theme. Karl Bacon, who passed away in 2008 at 98, and Ed Morgan, in 2009 at 93, worked for Arrow Development, the company Disney hired to work with them to create attractions for Disneyland. Karl and Ed came up with the idea of tubular steel tracks to make the attraction possible. Tonight we have another artist spotlight. Robert Jimé on the show. He is a fantastic artist who has another set of pulp cover cards coming out in Star Wars Card Trader, and that is among the many other projects he is working on is . Considering that we are not too far from the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, his work on the pulp covers and his style fits in perfectly to the aesthetic. My guests for the 32nd episode are Roser Tutusaus and Tom Weksler who are contemporary dancers, choreographers and teachers. They are the founders and artistic directors of Wonderground dance company and the founders of Movement Archery - their pedagogical body from which they offer workshops and intensives world wide. I have known both Tom and Roser for several years in which we have collaborated, exchanged and fed one another on both the physical and intellectual levels. I have invited them to the podcast to explore their different artistic endeavours which includes the opening of the Island - a new cultural centre in the suburbs of Barcelona and their latest dance creation Momentum. I had many many private conversations with them in the past and I was really happy to have the opportunity to share this one on this public feed. In our conversation, we talked about the different motivations to engage in art making. We talked about the politics of art making and what are the necessary conditions to create art from our individual perspectives as artists. We talked about strategies to guide attention as performance makers. We talked about the current political discourse that dominates the European dance world and what other perspectives we might want to include and more. Roser graduated in Bachelor of Dance at Artez DansAcademie in Arnhem (Holland), in Journalism at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and just finished a Masters in design and space production in Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. She worked for choreographers like Anouk van Dijk, Giulio d'Anna, Anouke de Groot and Erik Kaiel, Maria Rovira or Pere Faura. From 2014 to 2019, she danced and performed internationally with the dance company Guy Nader and Maria Campos. Since the beginning of her career as a dancer, she felt the need and the curiosity to create her own work. She has created solo performances like “Simun” and “Tecnologías del yo”, which she performed in several venues in and around Catalonia. And also collaborated with different artist like the circus/dance artist Joan Català, with whom she created a street duet called “Menar”. This piece was awarded ‘best street piece of the year' by the Catalan critics in 2016. Since 2017, she collaborates artistically and pedagogically with Tom Weksler. In 2019, they formed the performance arts company Wonderground. As Wonderground, they created a street piece called “RISE”, which is being touring in street Festivals around Europe. They also created several works for dance professional Schools like CODARTS (Rotterdam) and SEAD (Salzburg). Currently, Wonderground is in the process of finalizing the creation of a stage duo called “Tears in the Rain”, which Tom and Roser direct and perform and “Shadows of the mind”, another stage duo, which they choreograph for two finish dancers. Roser writes articles about movement and the relationship with culture, history, economics, geography or the political situation of the different places and countries she has the opportunity to visit when she teaches. In this Essay, Emma Jane Kirby considers the capital of the largest contemporary modern maritime empire: London.To today's listeners some of Londoners' concerns a century ago will seem extraordinarily familiar. Complaints about the Tube were as frequent and heartfelt then as they are today. To try and divert travellers from their misery, Macdonald Gill - the brother of sculptor and designer Eric Gill - was commissioned to produce a "Wonderground" map. It was intended to amuse them as they waited for their trains which were infrequent, often dirty and overcrowded.The map's whimsical illustrations - together with Cockney asides put in the mouths of some of the invented characters - captured the city's above-ground, pre-war character. It evoked the zeitgeist which George Bernard Shaw simultaneously reflected on stage in "Pygmalion" - and led to a subsequent commission to design a theatreland map during the First World War.Emma Jane Kirby considers the idea of Britain which London was presenting to both the wider world and Britons themselves, and she assesses how far these attitudes still resonate today.Producer Simon Coates.
