News: It is a time of great sadness in Southern California as wildfires rage and devastates so many people's lives. The Walt Disney Company has committed $15 million dollars to Los Angeles Area Fire Relief & Rebuilding Efforts. Further resources will be provided to the Employee Relief Fund to help Disney employees who are impacted. Many Imagineers called the areas of fire devastation home. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/disney-company-los-angeles-area-fire-relief-rebuilding-efforts/ https://www.micechat.com/407847-disneyland-news-fires-hope-next-chapter/ Construction has officially begun on the expansion to Avengers Campus. Sunday, January 12th the Timon parking lot was closed to start construction. A lot of prep work still needs to be completed before any vertical construction can begin, but it has started! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/01/12/confirmed-construction-just-started-on-disneys-avengers-campus-expansion/ For Weeklyteers who want to get in on the Beverage Education & Tasting Seminars for the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival, tickets and reservations are now open. The casting call is looking for “vibrant, energetic, and dynamic vocalists of all gender identities.” The performer chosen will be a DJ host who is youthful, quirky, and has great comedic timing, according to the post. This could be a new show moving into the Disney Theatre, home to the Disney Jr. Dance Party. – https://wdwnt.com/2025/01/casting-new-show-disney-california-adventure-s25/ Fans of the Disney Dress Shop in Downtown Disney may be wondering where it went soon. The location is getting a new sign “Disney Storyland Boutique.” Once the new sign is installed, the shop should also be reopening in the old Wonderground Gallery location. – https://www.micechat.com/407847-disneyland-news-fires-hope-next-chapter/ A Megabot sipper from Big Hero 6 is available for purchase in Disney California Adventure starting Friday. It looks like the pricing has increased on the items, so a Sip and Savor Pass might be the way to go. No pricing has been released for the pass at this time. – https://www.micechat.com/407847-disneyland-news-fires-hope-next-chapter/ When purchasing a Sip and Savor pass this year, you will have another choice to make: what design do you want? This year's passes will come in three limited designs which pay homage to either Chinese, Vietnamese, or Korean cultures, while also featuring Disney characters in culturally-inspired outfits designed by artist Ann Shen. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/sip-and-savor/ A new beignet has come to the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square. The Chocolate Hazelnut-flavored Mickey-shaped Beignets are basically Nutella beignets! There is an optional chocolate-hazelnut dipping sauce which you can get for $1.39. The beignets themselves can be purchased in a 3-pack for $6.49, or a 6-pack for $10.49. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/01/10/review-did-disney-just-make-mickey-beignets-even-better/ With Jolly Holiday closed for a major refurbishment, you might be craving some of the treats that usually call this location home. Fear not! A few of the items have moved to Refreshment Corner next door. Most notably are a couple of the breakfast croissants, and the Matterhorn Macaroon. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disneyland/refreshment-corner/menus/breakfast/ SnackChat: Cozy Cones – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/cozy-cone-motel/menus/ https://lizoncall.com/pear-of-dice-soda-recipe/ Discussion Topic: Two time Emmy Award winning animator and author Ken Bruce – https://tikiroom63.com https://www.instagram.com/tikiroom1963

None of the new Lego sculptures have been installed, with no word on if they are coming at all. Hopefully they have just been delayed and will show up in the future. – https://www.micechat.com/404239-disneyland-news-mansion-construction-thanksgiving-crowds/ The upcoming Parkside Market at the west end of Downtown Disney has received some of the final signage for the stores that will call this location home. The event in 2024 will take place over the weekend of the 11th through the 14th and include three endurance events, a challenge, and more! With the return of runDisney to Disneyland, the return of the Coast to Coast Race Challenge has also been announced. Registration for the west coast event starts February 7th for Club runDisney, with general registration open to the public on February 14th. For all of the details, check out the link in our show notes. https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/01/runners-ready-set-go-dates-for-2023-2024-rundisney-race-season-are-here/ The new spectacular Wondrous Journeys coming to Disneyland for the Disney100 was previewed in a behind-the-scenes video on the Disney Parks Blog. In the video, music from the new show and concept artwork and testing for the new show we previewed. https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/12/disneyland-resort-reveals-new-details-for-wondrous-journeys-coming-to-disneyland-park-beginning-jan-27/ In the early morning hours of December 29th, a small fire broke out at the New Orleans Square Station. The fire was contained to the small building on the far right of the station, across the tracks from where guests queue up to board. The water tower next to the building involved does not appear to have been damaged. The train opened with the rest of the park that morning, with scrims already up masking the damage from guests. No word on the cause of the fire yet. https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/12/29/small-fire-confirmed-by-cast-members-at-disneyland-resort/#more-759349 With Lunar New Year just around the corner, Disney has announced the food marketplaces that will be available this year. Returning are Lucky 9 Lantern, Prosperity Bao & Buns, Red Dragon Spice Traders, and Longevity Noodle Co. New this year are Bamboo Blessings, and Wrapped with Love. The booths will serve a variety of Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese foods. Returning for the event is the Sip and Savor Pass. Lunar New Year kicks off on January 20th and runs through February 15th. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/lunar-new-year-food-marketplaces/ Since the introduction of the Genie+ service, it has been pretty much available to everyone. The service sold out for three days in a row between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The service was even at a higher price point for those days when it sold out. Guests were not completely out of luck, the individual Lightning Lane reservations for Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers were still available. If you are planning on going to Disneyland during a busy time of year, make sure to purchase Genie+ early in the day to avoid missing it if it sells out. https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/12/28/genie-sells-out-in-disneyland/#more-758995 This year will bring some new perks to the Magic Key program at Disneyland. New items are coming to the Magic Key Terrace, like Barbeque Short Rib Sliders, and a Mint Julep Cocktail. Key Holders who purchase the Disney100 popcorn bucket will get refills for just $1.50 each through February 12th. A new Disney100 print will be available for pickup, and booking Walt's Main Street Story guided tour between January 9th and January 26th will receive a commemorative button. A Magic Key exclusive Pandora charm will also be available, in addition to new PhotoPass Magic Shots between January 9th and January 19th. https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/12/28/new-perks-announced-for-disneyland-magic-key-holders/#more-758886 At long last, the Indiana Jones Adventure will be getting the TLC it deserves and has sorely needed for quite some time now. A new animatronic snake was spotted by various online sources, which we spotted ourselves when riding the monorail on our December trip. This means that at the very least, we will have a fixed snake in the attraction. Currently, the refurbishment is scheduled to last from January 9th to "Spring, 2023." This is quite the length of time and is a good sign that things will be much better when it returns! https://www.micechat.com/342798-disneyland-update-and-the-verdict-is/ There are some changes coming to a couple of popular stores in Downtown Disney. Wonderground Gallery and the Disney Home store are closing on January 9th and will return with some changes. The rumor for the Wonderground Gallery is that it will be moving to the old ESPN building, which will give it a lot more space and finally do something with the empty building. The Disney Home store then may expand into the Wonderground Gallery space next door. During the closure, much of the merchandise from these stores will be available at other Downtown Disney locations. https://www.micechat.com/343186-disneyland-news-wonderground-gallery-disney-home-set-for-transformation/ New Years Eve at Disneyland was a wet one, but that didn't keep guests away. Disneyland setup some temporary barriers to keep walkways open and separate from fireworks viewing, directional signage to help guests get around in the crowds, and more. For those of you who watched the entertainment on TV through Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve with Ryan Seacrest, you would think that the park was dry and full of famous performers. This was not the case since most of these were pre-recorded. The rain did make for a great light show at midnight to ring in the new year. Other than attraction wait times being very long because of Genie+ reservations, the park was a pretty great place to be. https://www.micechat.com/343222-disneyland-update-dont-let-the-door-hit-you-on-the-way-out/ The Magic Shop on Main Street has been run by Houdini Magic since 2009 but was recently purchased by Vanishing Inc. The new owners are looking to make some changes to the Magic Shop, which current employees of the location are optimistic about. When completed, the store should be more impressive inside and out. https://www.micechat.com/343222-disneyland-update-dont-let-the-door-hit-you-on-the-way-out/ Shortly after the Lunar New Year Celebration wraps up, the Food & Wine Festival will be moving in on March 3rd. No new food booths have been announced this year, but all the booths from last year's celebration should be returning. Just like with the Lunar New Year Celebration, the Sip and Savor Pass will be for sale, offering 8 tabs that can be used at any of the 12 booths. https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/12/29/food-booths-announced-for-2023-food-and-wine-festival-in-disney-california-adventure/ During Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years' Eve with Ryan Seacrest, a short preview was shown of World of Color - ONE coming to Disney California Adventure on January 27th. Encanto, Soul, Mulan, and Pocahontas scenes were shown in the short promo for the celebration. At the very end, there was even a Star Wars section which will be only the second time Star Wars has been in a World of Color show. https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/12/video-first-look-at-world-of-color-one-star-wars-scenes-confirmed/ Discussion Tage and Teresa – Disney Studios and Imagineering

A selection of desserts and beverages is provided and takes place at 7pm and 9:30pm on party nights. Reservations begin for the dessert party on August 11th, with reservations for the Dinner package needing to be booked as a dinner reservation and upgraded in person when checking in. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/08/10/dinner-and-dessert-packages-are-coming-to-oogie-boogie-bash-at-disneyland/ Trader Sam's has been so busy since forever, and starting August 11th, guests can now reserve a spot prior to dining at the popular location. The reservations begin on the 15th, but guests can start reserving times on the 11th. Stores around the Disneyland Resort have already started stocking new Halloween merchandise. From tees, to ears, to hats, and more, there is something for everyone. Some standout items include a Haunted Mansion/Madame Leota necklace or ear rings, a pair of hitchhiking ghosts socks, and a Haunted Mansion wallpaper folding hand fan. – https://www.micechat.com/298137-disneyland-merchandise-update-spooky-beginnings-mansion-marvel/ and https://www.shopdisney.com/halloween-shop/ Mickey and Minnie have come to the resort in a new way! Strollers at the resort now feature the classic couple, along with their classic red and black color scheme. The old design was black and blue, so this is an upgrade! The sun shades feature Mickey and Minnie on either side of the seat. The wheels are black and yellow to complete the look. For guests needing to rent one, they are $18 a day for the single stroller, and $36 for the double stroller. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/08/07/disneylands-strollers-just-got-a-super-cute-upgrade/ Just a quick reminder to anyone who will be visiting Disneyland in the next few weeks, the Haunted Mansion is scheduled to be down for the transition to Haunted Mansion Holiday from August 16th to September 2nd. This will be the 20th anniversary of the holiday overlay and will feature nods to each of the 20 years in the gingerbread house in the ballroom scene this year. – https://www.micechat.com/297892-disneyland-update-magic-keys-and-cast-member-needs/ Another quick note to guests going to the parks soon, Mickey's Mix Magic, the fireworks show that is currently shown at Disneyland has moved to 9pm from 9:30pm, and starting August 30th, the fireworks portion of the show will be on weekends only, with projections only on the weekdays. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12997/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_August_9__15_2021#news4 With the return of the popular bread bowls in Disney California Adventure, Disney has posted a TikTok video of how they are made! There a few steps and watching the Cast Members make these bowls of awesomeness so fast is amazing to watch. To see this for yourself, check out the link in our show notes at dlweekly.net. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/08/02/video-see-how-disney-makes-their-iconic-bread-bowls/ The Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disney has reopened after a brief refurbishment. None of the physical aspects of the store were changed, but most of the items available for sale were replaced and refreshed. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/08/photos-wonderground-gallery-reopens-at-downtown-disney-district-after-brief-refurbishment/ The Orange County Register reported this week that Disneyland has 19,000 cast members working at the resort, and is continuing to rehire furloughed and laid off cast members. This only represents 3/5 of the total workforce pre-pandemic. Much of the cast that works third shift are still on furlough, with the overnight duties falling to day shift. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/08/06/disneyland-workforce-reaches-19000-unions-want-thousands-more-rehired/ There was a union protest outside of Disneyland on August 5th, representing a number of different Cast Member unions that work at the resort. They protested to call attention to returning to work and fighting for a living wage at the resort. The resort has been understaffed since it's reopening at the end of April and has not been able to get all the cast members to return. – https://www.micechat.com/297892-disneyland-update-magic-keys-and-cast-member-needs/ Another sad situation for Cast Members is the ticket restrictions that have been in place since reopening, making it nearly impossible to use this valuable perk of the job. Cast Members are given three different types of passes to use. Self-admission, which is unlimited, but subject to blockout days, the main entrance pass, which allows cast members and up to three guests into the parks, which is limited to about 16 days per year, with blackouts, and finally complimentary tickets, which are one-day park hoppers given to cast members two to three times a year, with no blockout dates. The first two passes have been blocked out since reopening, and the third is limited by a low amount of reservations available for the ticket type. – https://www.micechat.com/297892-disneyland-update-magic-keys-and-cast-member-needs/ The Walt Disney Animation Studios Disney+ long-term series production is moving out of Burbank. The team will be relocated to Vancouver, Canada, while the feature animation team will remain in Burbank at the studios. The relocation and added space, will allow for more projects to be worked on at the same time. The new studio is scheduled to open in January. They are also looking for new members of the team, which can be found at the link in our show notes. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/08/walt-disney-animation-studios-to-move-series-production-to-new-vancouver-location/ Walt Disney Imagineering has been named a Beat Workplace for Innovators by Fast Company for 2021. The title goes to companies that successfully foster cultures of innovation and encourage employees to discover, explore, and invent. Some of the stand out innovations that Imagineering has created include the Stuntronics at Avengers Campus, the gesture tracking on Web Slingers, the latest A-1000 model of animatronics, as seen in Galaxy's Edge, and more. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/08/fast-company-names-walt-disney-imagineering-a-best-workplace-for-innovators/ Discussion Topic: Chris from DisneyChris.com

This week, the early bird gets the Touch of Disney worm, tips for making Touch of Disney a better experience, Avenger’s Campus updates, some fun surprises for guests and legacy passholders, we talk about our planning for our visit to Touch of Disney, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. If you want some DLWeekly Swag, you can pick some up at https://www.dlweekly.net/store/. News: Arriving early seems to be the best bet when it comes to Touch of Disney. For those folks staying at a hotel on Harbor, the access is easier and you can arrive to Downtown Disney earlier than the 11:30am Mickey and Friends crowds. For locals, there is also the option to park at the Anaheim Hotel for $10 and walk over. The crowds do pick up in the afternoon and early evening, so getting in and ordering some food right away is a good idea. Avoiding food and checking out the characters and photo ops in the afternoon when it is busiest is the best idea. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/03/18/what-does-a-sold-out-a-touch-of-disney-crowd-look-like-at-disneyland/ Touch of Disney hasn’t been all sunshine and churros. Guests online and even in our community, reported some hiccups with the opening weekend of the event. Guests arriving to Mickey and Friends at 11:30 when the garage opened, then had to walk the tram route, which resulted in getting the the gates after the noon start time. Entrance was slowed down due to having to scan the ticket, take guests photos, then scanning the $25 food gift card to enter. Mobile ordering is highly encouraged, but also had long waits for food once ordered, that in some cases, was faster to stand in line and order at the booth instead. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12893/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_March_22__28_2021 Something interesting popped up online this week with guests being able to see different angles into Avenger’s Campus with Touch of Disney going on. It appears that the Web Slingers attraction has a part of the track outside on the roof! We looked at some aerial photos to see if we could 100% confirm this, but there wasn’t a good angle to do so. There is a piece of concept art that has Mission Breakout in the background, so it could show proof of this. We were under the impression that the stunt show would be in this area, so we will see when the land and this attraction officially open to the public. – https://www.micechat.com/285785-disneyland-gets-ready-to-reopen-as-california-adventures-food-festival-kicks-off/ Attendees of the Touch of Disney event are able to look into Avenger’s Campus and see one of the decorative highlights of the new area – the Quinjet! It is parked on top of the location of the possible future location of the phase 2 big Avenger’s e-ticket attraction. – https://www.micechat.com/285785-disneyland-gets-ready-to-reopen-as-california-adventures-food-festival-kicks-off/ Guests were greeted with some unexpected refurbishments going on within California Adventure at the start of the Touch of Disney event. The rotunda for Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is behind scaffolding and being painted, as well as quite a bit of work around Pacifc Wharf, specifically the Cocina Cucamounga. – https://www.micechat.com/285785-disneyland-gets-ready-to-reopen-as-california-adventures-food-festival-kicks-off/ One amazing thing that has returned with the Touch of Disney event are the PhotoPass photographers! There are a number of locations that have been setup to take advantage of their return. There are also some locations that are setup without PhotoPass photographers that are just plain fun! There is a Mickey mural on the side of the D-Lish booth, a D23 Mickey Hands mural near Ghiradelli, butterfly wings by Paradise Garden, and more. For a complete list, check out the link in the show notes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/03/20/heres-every-photo-op-at-disney-california-adventures-new-event/ During the Touch of Disney event, the games of Pixar Pier are open for guests to enjoy. Dividers have been installed between the seats and cast members are cleaning and sanitizing between each game. The games were free to play during the event, but it is unclear if it will remain that way. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2021/03/19/games-of-the-pixar-pier-operating-during-touch-of-disney-event-at-disney-california-adventure/ Legacy Passholders have a few places to pick up some nice swag at Touch of Disney. Over in Paradise Gardens, there is an AP corner with a photo op for the 20th anniversary of DCA, along with a Legacy Passholder magnet and button. The 65th Anniversary of Disneyland AP magnet is also still available at most merchandise locations, just be sure to ask. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/03/18/photos-check-out-the-exclusive-items-legacy-passholders-can-snag-in-disneyland/ More details have been trickling out about the new storyline and themeing for the World Famous Jungle Cruise this past week. The new story will center around Alberta Falls, the granddaughter of famed explorer Albert Falls, and is now the proprietor of the Jungle Navigation Company who operates the Jungle Cruise. For full details, visit the links that we have in the show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/03/jungle-cruise-adds-new-characters-mischievous-wildlife-and-skipper-humor-to-classic-attraction/ and https://www.micechat.com/280932-breaking-news-major-changes-coming-to-the-jungle-cruise-at-disneyland-and-magic-kingdom/ The Disneyland Hotel turned 65 back in October, and there is finally some merchandise to celebrate. There are tees, a sweater, and more available at the Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disney. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/03/photos-disneyland-hotel-65th-anniversary-apparel-debuts-at-disneyland-resort/ Salt and Straw has done it again with another interesting take on ice cream. This time, some of your favorite cereals are now an option! Some options recreate Lucky Charms, Cocoa Crisps, Peanut Butter Captain Munch, Rice Crispies, and Corn Flakes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/03/20/your-favorite-cereals-are-now-ice-cream-flavors-in-disneyland/ Tortilla Jo’s will have an Easter Brunch Menu on Sunday, April 4, 2021. To make reservations for this unique opportunity, call 714-535-5000. Some of the items include breakfast burritos and enchiladas, chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, bottomless mimosas, and more. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/03/20/skip-the-easter-ham-and-opt-for-a-breakfast-burritos-in-downtown-disney/ Bob Chapek was interviewed by Bloomberg this week, and spoke of the guest satisfaction ratings at the Disney parks since their return. In what might be a surprise to some, the satisfaction ratings are above where they were before the pandemic. This could be caused by the lower attendace levels, which makes for a more pleasant experience, the precautions Disney has taken to keep everyone safe, or just that people are happy to be out of the house doing anything. He also stated that the parks will continue to be more magical when more guests return. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/03/disney-ceo-bob-chapek-states-guest-satisfaction-at-parks-is-higher-now-compared-to-pre-pandemic/ Bob Iger was interviewed for the SiriusXM business show Leadership Matters. The interview airs on SiriusXM on April 6th. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2021/03/22/bob-iger-discusses-whats-next-after-disney-and-the-reopening-of-disneyland-in-upcoming-sirius-xm-business-interview-leadership-matters/ Discussion: Touch of Disney Menu – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/03/foodie-guide-to-a-touch-of-disney-at-disney-california-adventure-park-opening-march-18/ Knott’s Boysenberry Festival – https://cdn-cloudfront.cfauthx.com/binaries/content/assets/kb-en-us/general-information/play/events/kbf-2021—taste-of-boysenberry-festival-mapv6.pdf

What makes this feat even more amazing is that it was accomplished by some Imagineers working from home! Special effects, lighting, paint work, and more were created for the refreshed attraction at Imagineer’s homes during the pandemic. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/02/creating-magic-at-home-snow-whites-enchanted-wish-at-disneyland-park/ In an unexpected move, Disneyland is offering refunds for unused Food and Wine Festival passes. This project is called the Magic Kingdom Universe, and could explore characters like a sea boat captain from the Jungle Cruise, the prospector from Big Thunder Mountain, and more. The first project is based on the Society of Explorers and Adventurers. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/02/23/magic-kingdom-universe-to-connect-disney-theme-parks-with-disney-shows/ Star Wars Trading Post opened to the general public on Friday and it was popular! There were waits of up to 3+ hours to get into Downtown Disney, and then lines to get into the location. Nothing is certain, just Disney testing the waters. – https://www.micechat.com/283144-disneyland-news-update-food-wine-star-wars-and-wonder/ From now until March 1st, Chewbacca – in Lego form – will be on display at the LEGO store. According to Disney, he stands 7 and a half feet tall, and is made up of 36,540 bricks, and took 275 hours to construct. – https://www.micechat.com/283144-disneyland-news-update-food-wine-star-wars-and-wonder/ Disneyland Legacy Passholders now have until March 11th to save 30% off their purchases Mondays through Thursdays at select Downtown Disney and Buena Vista Street locations. No, this isn’t some form of April fools joke he says. Kevin started working for Disney washing dishes at the Plaza Inn at Disneyland. D23 had a great interview with him that we will have linked in the show notes. – https://d23.com/imagineer-kevin-rafferty-retiring-after-42-magical-years-read-his-exclusive-interview/ Another Disney great was lost to us this past week when Dale Baer passed away. Dale was an animator that worked on Robin Hood, The Lion King, Treasure Planet and more. He was also the supervising animator for one of our favortie characters Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove. He was 70 years old and had worked in animation for over 40 years. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/01/dale-baer-disney-animator-for-the-emperors-new-groove-winnie-the-pooh-and-the-lion-king-has-passed-away-at-70/ The mass vaccination site is operating at Disneyland, but has had some growing pains this week. Pre-registration is required to get a vaccine there and is currently only available to front line workers and those 65 and older. In addition to the registration issues, the site was also closed on Tuesday of this week because of high winds in the area. – https://www.micechat.com/280078-disneyland-update-all-good-things-must-come-to-an-end/ Feedback: https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2021-01-16/disney-annual-pass-disneyland

News: Last Thursday, Disney held their Q4 earnings report and fiscal 2020 year end results. The company had 14 billion in revenue, beating expectations. The Disney Parks had the worst loss in the company with a 61% decrease in revenue, resulting in a 1.1 billion dollar loss. Disney estimates the total impact from COVID-19 in 2020 was 7.4 billion overall. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/breaking-disney-parks-experiences-and-products-segment-records-loss-of-1-1-billion-in-q4-2020/ During the 2020 earnings call last week, Disney CEO Bob Chapek dropped the news that they did not think that Disneyland would be open in the fiscal first quarter of 2021. This is confusing some as different online publications are saying this means until March 2021, but the way that Disney has it’s fiscal years setup means that Disneyland will not be open for the rest of 2020. The second fiscal quarter starts in January, 2021. – https://www.micechat.com/275082-disneyland-update-open-and-closed-as-disneyland-faces-a-purple-christmas/ Most of California, including Orange County where Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Knott’s Berry Farm are located have slid back into the purple zone on California’s COVID-19 blueprint. This means that even the smaller amusement parks need to close down again, and indoor dining will not be allowed, with fewer guests allowed inside retail locations. For Downtown Disney, this means a return to outdoor dining only, and longer lines for the retail stores. – https://www.micechat.com/275082-disneyland-update-open-and-closed-as-disneyland-faces-a-purple-christmas/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/11/16/disneyland-and-knotts-further-from-reopening-with-orange-countys-slide-into-most-restrictive-covid-19-tier/ Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, presented at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, or IAAPA, Virtual Education Conference. During the presentation, he showed off some positive changes coming to the parks around the world. At Disneyland, Avengers Campus is working toward completion, with the bulk of the additions happening at other parks. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/11/updates-on-new-disney-parks-attractions-entertainment-offer-glimpse-of-exciting-future/ This week, we received a first look at the actual ride vehicle for the new Spider-Man attraction coming to Avenger’s Campus. The new attraction, named “Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure” will be the new e-ticket in the land when it opens. The ride vehicles are enclosed and give the feel of a much smaller Guardian’s gantry lift. The side of the vehicle opens to allow guests to board in a single line facing outward so they can sling webs! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/16/pics-check-out-the-ride-vehicles-for-the-upcoming-web-slingers-a-spider-man-adventure-in-disneyland/ At the IAAPA Expo, Josh D’Amaro stated that more inclusion projects will be coming to the parks after the Splash Mountain retheming. This is part of the fifth key in Cast Member training that was announced in September. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/josh-damaro-states-there-will-be-more-inclusion-projects-for-disney-parks-starting-with-splash-mountain-retheming/ The holidays have officially arrived at the Disneyland Resort with a number of seasonal shopping and dining options now available. Black Tap has a Thanksgiving Burger, La Brea Bakery has a few different spirits to choose from like the Merry Manhattan, the Tinsel-Tini, a Mistletoe Margarita, the Joyful Daiquiri, and the Jolly Old Fashioned. Earl of Sandwich, California Churro, Wetzel’s Pretzels, and Marceline’s Confectionery also have some festive options. A holiday favorite will not be returning this year. The infamous Disneyland Candy Cane will not be avaliable. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/16/take-a-look-at-the-seasonal-shopping-and-dining-available-at-downtown-disney/ and https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/11/shop-sip-savor-and-celebrate-the-holiday-season-at-downtown-disney-district-at-disneyland-resort/ For merchandise, holiday options are coming to a lot of Downtown Disney shops, the Backlot Premiere Shop, and Buena Vista Street Shops. If you are able, we would encourage a donation to the Toys for Tots boxes outside of World of Disney, since Disney will donate an additional $1 for every toy donated. You can also donate on shopdisney.com/toysfortots. Buena Vista Street has been decorated for a little bit now for the holidays, but that has finally spilled out into the main Downtown Disney District. Decorated Christmas trees have been added to the planters, toy soldiers have been placed, lights and packages have also been scattered about. Some festive holiday banners have been installed by the old AMC theater, and Christmas music fills the air. A Downtown Disney Christmas Tree has also been installed near the esplanade. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/photos-video-christmas-decorations-appear-at-downtown-disney-district-and-buena-vista-street-at-disneyland-resort/ MiceChat noticed some Christmas decorations through the front gates of Disneyland recently, giving guests hope that Main Street might reopen, much like Buena Vista Street. Unfortunately, it looks like the decorations were just setup for some form of production in the park, and have been removed. – https://www.micechat.com/275082-disneyland-update-open-and-closed-as-disneyland-faces-a-purple-christmas/ The former location of the Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disney has received a new Star Wars Trading Post sign. The new sign gives guests a better idea of what the location is, since the previous exterior didn’t explicitly say what the store was. – https://www.micechat.com/275082-disneyland-update-open-and-closed-as-disneyland-faces-a-purple-christmas/ MiceChat posted an aerial update for Disneyland this week. Scaffolding has come down around Snow White, King Arthur Carrousel, and The Haunted Mansion, showing completed, or mostly completed exterior work on these attractions. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has also been going up at a rapid pace! – https://www.micechat.com/275082-disneyland-update-open-and-closed-as-disneyland-faces-a-purple-christmas/ New Disney Parks Pals Collectibuilds have arrived! Each mystery box contains one of twelve collectibles, with the box being able to fold into an attraction vehicle. For series 1, a Monorail, train, Kilimanjaro Safari truck, Peter Pan’s Flight pirate ship, and Space Mountain rocket ship are the options. The new pals are $9.99 and have been spotted in World of Disney. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/photos-video-new-disney-park-pals-collectabuilds-mystery-boxes-include-character-figure-and-buildable-ride-attraction-vehicles/ Black Tap has come up with another tasty treat, this time themed to Mickey Mouse! The Special Edition Shake features a strawberry shake with a vanilla frosted rim with Mickey Mouse sprinkles topped with a homemade Mickey Mouse shaped crisped rice treat, white and red rock candy, whipped cream, red sprinkles and a cherry on top. The shake costs $24, and is available daily. – https://twitter.com/Disneyland/status/1328387154263805953 Disney posted a preview of the last Minnie the Main Attraction collection this week. The final design is based on fireworks and Disney Castles. Like the previous sets, there will be Minnie ears, mug, pin set, a Loungefly backpack, and a Minnie plush. The final set should be open for MerchPass next month. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/photo-first-look-at-new-nighttime-fireworks-castle-finale-collection-for-minnie-mouse-the-main-attraction-series/ The Disney Holiday Sing Along lineup has been announced. Ryan Seacrest will return as host and will include BTS, Michael Buble, Adam Lambert, and more. Plus, returning favorites Derek and Julianne Hough will also be part of the singalong. The North American touring companies of Frozen, Aladdin and The Lion King will also make an appearance. Disney’s a cappella group, DCappella, will also be joining in on the magical holiday fun. For a complete list, check out the link in our show notes. “The Disney Holiday Sing Along” will air on Monday, Nov. 30 at 8/7c on ABC. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/complete-lineup-for-the-disney-holiday-singalong-revealed-featuring-performances-by-bts-chloe-x-halle-michael-buble-and-more/ This week has a TON of special streams from D23, the official Disney fan club. News: At 10am pacific time on Tuesday, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products held a press conference to give and update on the Disney Parks approach to operating during COVID-19. On the call were VPs of Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, WDW Hotels and Resorts, and Patrick Finnegan, the VP of DCA and Downtown Disney. Closing remarks were given by Josh D’Amaro, the Chairman of the division. 8 out of 10 guests feel the safety measures are just right. Disney plans on providing COVID testing in their communities with details to be announced soon. Josh D’Amaro joined from DCA and expressed how important Disneyland is to the economy in CA and how 80,000 jobs rely on the resort. The biggest line was “We are ready, and more importantly… it is time.” – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/articles/2020/09/22/live-blog-disney-parks-and-resorts-update/ When Disneyland does reopen, mobile ordering is going to be expanded, just as it was in Walt Disney World. And, just like in Disney World, it will be the preferred way for guests to order their food while in the parks. Apple Pay and Disney gift cards will also be allowed in the app and the minimum age for mobile ordering will be lowered to 13 years old, down from the previous 18 years old. There is currently no updated list of locations that will offer mobile ordering. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/09/22/disneyland-to-expand-restaurant-mobile-ordering-when-theme-parks-reopen/ More progress seen in the parks in preparation for the reopening of Disneyland. Hand sanitizer stations have appeared all over Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure and crowd signage like “Enter Here” have also been spotted. – https://www.micechat.com/270828-disneyland-update-how-soon-is-very-very-soon/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/09/22/two-major-new-park-additions-show-were-even-closer-to-disneyland-reopening/ The Thinkwell Group released an estimate that Disneyland could maintain social distancing measures at 50% of pre-COVID attendance capacity. This was calculated using the estimates from the Themed Entertainment Association of 500 to 650 per acre. With the 6 feet of distance, that leaves 140 square feet per person, and 200 square feet for groups of 3, Thinkwell estimates. In the end 25 to 30,000 visitors per day could visit and properly distance. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/09/17/disneyland-could-allow-for-social-distancing-at-50-capacity-data-shows/ The likelihood of the trams returning when the parks reopen is pretty slim considering that Walt Disney World has been open for months and the trams have not returned there. So, Disneyland has turned it’s tramway into a pedestrian walkway this past week, installing signage, benches, and trash cans along the route from Mickey and Friends, as well as Pixar Pals parking garages. This isn’t the first time that this has been used or pedestrians, being used on heavy attendance days like New Years Eve. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/09/16/photos-disneyland-prepares-for-reopening-as-park-reservation-signs-and-a-potential-new-walkway-appear/ In another positive sign of possible reopening coming sooner than later, the floral Mickey in front of the Main Street Station has been refreshed. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/09/photos-mickey-entrance-floral-planter-refreshed-at-disneyland-social-distancing-signage-installed-at-disney-california-adventure/ Last week, the Wonderground Gallery was taken over by Star Wars overnight. Rumors spread online that it was a permanent closure of the popular art gallery in Downtown Disney. The new Star Wars Trading post sells a lot of items that were once only available in Galaxy’s Edge. {someone online? Disney} did say that they are looking for an alternate location for the Wonderground Gallery to return to. – https://www.micechat.com/270828-disneyland-update-how-soon-is-very-very-soon/ Star Wars fans that are collecting the various lightsabers from the Star Wars Universe have the opportunity to choose the next saber to be released. The options are Anakin Skywalker, Qui-Gon Jinn, Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger from Star Wars Rebels, Cal Kestis from the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game, and Lord Corvax. Head to the link in our show notes to cast your vote now through October 1st. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/09/guests-get-to-vote-for-next-legacy-lightsaber-coming-to-dok-ondars-den-of-antiquities-in-star-wars-galaxys-edge-products-from-the-theme-park-land-now-online-at-shopdisney-coming-to-disney-sprin/ and https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/09/vote-for-the-next-legacy-lightsaber-in-celebration-of-products-direct-from-star-wars-galaxys-edge-coming-to-shopdisney-disney-springs-and-downtown-disney-district/ The Mandalorian will be returning with season 2 at the end of October, but if you want some Baby Yoda, also known as “The Child” in your life before then, you can pick up a new travel blanket that features the little green creature. The blanket folds up in itself and includes a trolley sleeve for easy transport. The Retro Disneyland Minnie Ears are blue sequins for the ears, with the vintage Disneyland lettering in place of the bow. On the band itself is the saying “The Happiest Place on Earth.” They are $29.99, if you can find them at the World of Disney. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/09/22/stop-these-are-the-most-iconic-disneyland-minnie-ears-ever/ Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes celebrated national cheeseburger day on September 17th. News: MiceChat got some more aerial photos of the resort this week and showed off some of the ongoing construction. Before taking to the skies, hand washing stations have been spotted just inside the gates at Disneyland before the entrance tunnels to Main Street. It seems like there is a lot of work underway to prepare for an eventual reopening. The bridge to Frontierland is almost complete, with the land’s entrance sign about to be re-installed. The last of the “french fry” rocks at the entrance to Tomorrowland have been removed and are in the process of being cleared away. The Snow White Facade has been completed and the scaffolding has been removed. Work also appears to be progressing on King Arthur’s Carousel. – https://www.micechat.com/270189-disneyland-update-spooky-skies-over-an-empty-kingdom/ Over in Disney California Adventure, new plexiglass shields have been installed at the entrance turnstiles. There have also been some iron fencing installed to facilitate a shield between entrance sections. The paths in front of the new Spider-Man attraction appear to be completed, but the rest of the campus is still dirt. The PYM test kitchen is still missing walls as well. The new administrative building behind Cars Land looks almost complete. Gondolas are still missing from the Pal-A-Round and the swings have been removed from the Silly Symphony Swings. With all of this work happening, the parks should look great when they reopen to the public! – https://www.micechat.com/270189-disneyland-update-spooky-skies-over-an-empty-kingdom/ With Orange County being removed from the purple status last week, restaurants in Downtown Disney have begun seating guests at 25% capacity indoors. There is still outdoor seating available as well. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/09/photos-restaurants-in-downtown-disney-now-allowing-indoor-dining/ The largest U.S. theme parks have reported no COVID-19 outbreaks since reopening. Florida’s Orange County Department of Health said in late August that Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando haven’t had any outbreaks. An outbreak is defined as teo or more people with coronavirus who are linked to a potentially extensive transmission within a setting or organization, according to the CDC. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/09/14/largest-u-s-theme-parks-report-no-covid-19-outbreaks-since-reopening/ With Orange County moving into the red category, museums could reopen with limited capacity, including the Bowers Museum, which is currently hosting “Inside the Walt Disney Archives: 50 Years of Preserving the Magic” exhibition. Here to join us and talk about her experience is supporter and Community Manager Kate. This week there was a second Downtown Disney shopping event held in the old ESPN Zone building. As we reported on before, the Pop-Up! Disney interior hasn’t been changed, they just added areas to look at and choose merchandise. Items were limited to 2 per guest. There were 5 items for sale which included a Fidget Bat pin for $17.99, a Victor Geist, better known as the organ player from the Haunted Mansion, Funko Pop for $39.99, an Oogie Boogie Popcorn bucket, a pair of light up dice, and a sequined Mickey Pumpkin bag. Four of these items were available outside of this event, only the pin was exclusive. – https://www.micechat.com/269725-heres-what-was-available-at-todays-downtown-disney-shopping-event/ Sprinkles in Downtown Disney has reopened this week. Orders must be placed online at order.sprinkles.com, and credit cards are the only acceptable form of payment at this time. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/09/photos-sprinkles-reopens-at-the-downtown-disney-district-at-disneyland-resort/ Disneyland’s 65th anniversary is just going on and on it seems. Target, Boxlunch and Amazon are getting into the game with 65th merchandise. Some of the items have already gone on sale, and some will debut as late as November 15th in the case of Amazon. Target has a pin set, lunchbox, t-shirt and more. Items will be available online and in store starting in early October. Also coming in early October are exclusive Boxlunch items including a sweatshirt, Loungefly mini-backpack, and more. Some of the items are available for pre-order. Finally, at Amazon, they also have a mini-backpack, crossbody bag, pins, and more. – https://www.micechat.com/270115-disneyland-65th-anniversary-merchandise-coming-to-target-boxlunch-amazon/ A new Mickey Pumpkin headband has landed at World of Disney. According to the Orange County Register, Disneyland has not had the amount of time and information needed to put on the event this year with no clear understanding from the state on when they can open. It would have been the 62nd annual event this year. – https://www.micechat.com/270189-disneyland-update-spooky-skies-over-an-empty-kingdom/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/09/10/disneyland-cancels-candlelight-processional-as-coronavirus-threatens-christmas-events/ Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge may have taken the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue from everyone, recipes were posted this week if you have been wanting some. It's another raucous interview with a couple of LA's most renowned screen printers! This time, Nick sits down in the live/work studio of The Little Friends of Printmaking to discuss their art, travels and print hustling lifestyle. Of course, we go over Melissa and James' midwest upbringings and then we discuss their college years at UW Madison and other influential moments in the early years when the couple met and fell in love with print and each other. They talk about their travels through Japan where they've visited in recent years, and how their work changes shape to accommodate selling prints on the road. Recently the duo was hosted as the Feature Artisans at Disneyland's WonderGround Gallery. They share about their interactions with the public and the benefits of keeping in touch with their audience. With a popular style and the speed of information today, they have to keep their work fresh because it's one thing to make popular prints, but it's another to constantly stay ahead of the curve in our social media age. It's the pod's second interview in a row where we lament the greatness of gigposters.com.And then there's the cat stuff, the glorious cat stuff.
