On this episode of the pod we look back at one of the true modern day greats - AB De Villiers. Helping host Saqib Ali do the honors are freelance cricket reporter from South Africa Dan Gallan and ABD superfan Prithvi. We needed an incredibly analytical fan and a cricket reporter for this episode to breakdown the highs and lows of the genius cricketer. De Villiers is a bit of an interesting study as well because his career shares the same timeline with other modern greats and he was also a mediocre captain unlike some of the greats. Prithvi and Dan also highlight the racial allegations on the man towards the end of this career. Tune in and see how we remember this great talent. https://ewn.co.za/2019/06/08/ab-de-villiers-the-one-that-got-away Dan on twitter - https://twitter.com/danielgallan Prithvi on twitter - https://twitter.com/puneite_/with_replies

What a man to have at the beginning of what is a massive week for English cricket! Mason Crane stops by the podcast to talk all things himself, the Hundred, and of course the Cricket World Cup. The Hampshire Leg-Spinner has made a name for himself in his career, representing England across multiple formats. This last season proved to be one of Mason's most prolific. He helped bowl Hampshire to T20 blast glory and was a pivotal member of London Spirits Franchise who finished 3rd in this years edition of the tournament. I took this opportunity to pick Mason's brain on many things to do with English cricket. A fascinating chat about leg-spinners, or the lack-of in the test side and why this might be, about the structure of the British summer and the intense schedule our players have to cope with, Mason says some lovely words about the late-great Shane Warne who Mason was lucky enough to work with. Some truly fascinating topics, with an even more fasnicating insight into the British game. I also chat to Mason about his own career and the journey he has been on. A test debut in an ashes test match is something many kids dream of, snagging AB De Villiers as your first International wicket isn't far off either! Mason is a truly wonderful talent and an even better bloke. Given the significance of the week, we couldn't not talk about the England lads currently down under. This episode was recorded the night before the semi-finals and how wrong I was! Mason, on the other hand, a true patriarch. If you want to find out who Mason backed to win the final, you'll just have to listen! One massive final thank you to Mason and hope you all enjoy it! At the age of 22 Tymal Mills was told he had a congenital back condition and had the option of retiring from professional cricket. 2 years later he had secured a £1.4 million deal to play in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In early 2020 Mills was in a back brace for 3 months having picked up a stress fracture, 8 months later he was bowling for England in the T20 World Cup. The man is seriously determined. Not only that but he's also easy going and totally honest, which made our chat a very enjoyable one. As he gets set for his 2nd IPL season in Mumbai, he opens up about how he didn't live up to the price tag in his first season, what it was like to play with cricket icons like Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers, and how he kept going through the dark days of injury. He's also got a very interesting take on racism in English cricket and the aftermath of the Azim Rafiq case. I hope you enjoy it and please do subscribe if you haven't already!

The RCB Podcast powered by Kotak Mahindra Bank - How the IPL changed my life
At this point, ABD might as well be Indian! He's one of the few players that can get an entire stadium in India chant his name when he walks out to bat, against India! That's how much we love him. If there was one batsman that you would blindly trust to pull you out of any situation in the IPL, it would be AB. And he's done that over and over for RCB. In this episode, AB talks about his journey over the years, which finally ended in him playing for RCB. Listen to AB de Villliers' incredible story on The RCB Podcast powered by Kotak Mahindra Bank — How the IPL changed my life.

The incredibly technical nature of cricket means that many of the games current professionals had to have been born “with a bat in hand”. For Tymal Mills, the case could not have been more different. At 13, as someone who was largely unaware of the sport, Tymal was asked to fill in for a friend in a local after-school club game. A clear natural to the sport, within five years of first playing Tymal already had a contract at Essex CCC. At aged 22, Tymal experienced his first injury shock when, during a spell for Essex CCC, he began feeling odd sensations in his legs and lower back. After numerous consultations, and fears that the shocks could have been early signs of Multiple Sclerosis, Tymal faced the decision of whether or not to retire from cricket. Although the severity of the injury meant he had medical grounds to retire, Tymal made the decision to continue his career, but to focus solely on T20 cricket. At the time, due to the realisation that he would no longer be able to play Test Cricket for England, this felt like a setback. However, no one could have predicted what was to come. Looking back, as Tymal claims, the injury was “the best thing to have happened”; the subsequent focus on T20 cricket allowed Tymal to become one of the games most famous players and he is now the true epitome of a modern, franchise cricketer. Shortly after making his England Debut, Tymal was bought for £1.3m in the 2017 IPL Auction, having been selected to feature in a team alongside Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. These are opportunities that may not have been available had he focussed on four-day cricket, and it is testament to the fact, in sport, often minor setbacks are part of a much greater end goal. Tymal is now using his story to help inspire the next generation of fast bowlers and his book, called ‘the Book of Pace', can be purchased online @pacejournal or on their website. Tymal's story is one of raw natural talent, combined with immense resilience, and we hope you enjoy it.

In this week's episode of the World Cup Locker Room, Daksh and Gaurav first talk about the controversy surrounding Mahendra Singh Dhoni wearing a military insignia on his wicket keeping gloves. Should players be allowed to wear military or political symbols on the field, or are they best avoided? Next, with reports of AB de Villiers wanting to come out of retirement, they discuss whether South Africa would have won against India with De Villiers on their team. And lastly, they talk about India's upcoming match against Australia and our chances against their lineup.
Hello and welcome to Firstpost Spodcast. Today, we discuss results from the ICC Cricket World Cup, CSA's rejection of AB de Villiers, India's demolition of Russia in hockey and the controversy surrounding an Army insignia on MS Dhoni's wicketkeeping gloves.
We went all the way to England to talk about the big story of the day, AB De Villiers asking to be considered for #CWC19 selection with Lungani Zama.

Samar Khan and Rahul Puri discuss the latest happening from the world of sports. The discussion kicks-off with recently concluded Champions League finale in which Real Madrid beat Liverpool. Samar says, “The one thing that we have to give them is the fact that they are the three-time champions and that takes some doing.”Rahul says, “Especially in the second half, they were far away from the better side.” He adds, “Liverpool without Salah is just not the same attacking threat.”The duo also talks about Sergio Ramos’ charge on Salah that injured him and sent him off, retired hurt. Samar says, “Big moment in the game was actually Ramos’ challenge on Salah. Even though it was a mercenary challenge to try to bring a player down. It’s like Madrid will do anything to win!”Rahul answers, “The morning after I wanted somebody to kill Sergio Ramos frankly. But that’s the player he is.”“Sergio Ramos is a thug!" he says. “It was a completely professional foul. There was no doubt about it. He certainly wanted to bring Salah down. In a football match, when you bring somebody down, there is a chance that you can hurt them," he adds.Rahul says that the challenge that Zidane, the Real Madrid manager, faces now is that this isn’t a great Real Madrid side. He says, “Zidane knows that he has to make big changes.” The duo agrees that Zidane has achieved a phenomenal feat by winning the Champions League three times in a row. Rahul says, “There are only 3 or 4 managers that have ever won three European Cups. Period. Zidane has done it three times in a row!”Samar and Rahul speak about the Indian Premier League in which Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifted the trophy after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Samar gives the maximum credit of CSK’s victory to its captain, MS Dhoni, to which Rahul replies, “If you’re looking for limited overs captain, you don’t look any further than Dhoni.”Samar argues that this season some teams have shown that you don’t need a team of superstars to win matches. Rahul speaks about Dhoni, “He is the one ultimately who picks the players for the auction. He is the one who creates the culture. And it’s a winning culture that he creates.” He adds, “Rayudu walked into CSK after being left out by MI. And he walks in that place like he has always played there.” Speaking of the statistics, Rahul recounts that of the 11 IPL seasons, CSK has been in the playoffs 9 times, 7 times in the finals and won it 3 times! The duo recalls the amazing South African all-rounder AB De Villiers’ journey as a cricketer who recently announced his retirement from all formats of the game. Samar says, “He’s the guy who could actually take the game away from you. If you see the kind of strokes he played, the kind of batting that he did. You never knew where to bowl to him because he could have ten shots to every delivery.” Rahul comments, “For me, De Villiers is up there with Brian Lara, as two of the most entertaining players we’ve ever seen.”You can also listen to all our podcasts on the Newslaundry App and get updates about all our podcasts via Twitter and Facebook. My 2 cents worth on the retirement of AB De Villiers.
We're all sad about losing to South Africa in Port Elizabeth, so let's jump in the time machine to talk about it as it hadn't happened yet. The boys also talk about David Warner and the Park Life Question: "When to pull your teammates into line?" as well as 'preview' the rest of the South African series. Then, Gordo and Baz debate whether West Indies will qualify for the 2019 World Cup and talk at length about one of the most exciting Sheffield Shield seasons in memory. (Apologies, this episode was recorded on Wednesday 7th March... sometimes life gets in the way.)
For this week's Park Life Lesson, Gordo asks Baz: "What is IT?" when judging cricketing talent and whether or not you should judge players by what they have now or what they might develop in later? (1:25) The Nuffies then break down the upcoming South Africa vs. Australia Tests including their predictions for the series, (15:36) review Round 8 of the Sheffield Shield (35:23) and preview Round 9. (52:17) Keep an ear out for Baz's #VicsDoItBetter bet...

Mason Crane burst onto the international cricket scene with a bang this summer of 2017, making his T20 International debut at The Ageas Bowl against the touring South Africans. Taking 1 for 38 from his allotted overs, including the prized scalp of AB De Villiers, the 20-year old marked his arrival in style. And in September, he was named in England's Test squad for the 2017–18 Ashes series. Crane has come through a coaching system that includes Lancing School, Hampshire age-groups and Academy, and the England Development Programme. But embedded in this story of a rising star, are Nick and Alison Crane, Mason’s parents. In this guest podcast released initially last week to mark Parents in Sport Week, UK Coaching speak to Nick and Alison about the trials and tribulations of being ‘high performance parents’, unpicking some of their journey, and their interactions with the coaches that have supported Mason’s evolution. They even managed to grab five minutes with Mason himself. The Proteas send off with Russel Domingo, AB de Villiers and David Miller and we look ahead to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations semi finals.
When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, he already had three missed calls from AB De Villiers. On the pod this week, Adam and Tony discuss a mindblowing batting display from South Africa's captain. When Bob Willis calls him the best batsman of all time, that's clearly hyperbole...or is it? Yes. Or is it? In addition, Tim Wigmore and Peter Miller, authors of a new book, 'Second XI: Cricket in its Outposts', come on the show to discuss all things Associate cricket. In a wide-ranging chat, topics covered include the future of Ireland, why the ICC isn't all that bad really, and whether cricket will ever crack America. All this and more on the latest edition of the World Cricket Show - did you hear? It's the world's favourite cricket show. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On SAfm Sports Wrap tonight Brad Brown bring you the latest sports news including interviews with Proteas test captain Hashim Amla and man of the match AB de Villiers.
