Life is full of incredible moments when you make them happen, and for me interviewing Abeer AlShaali – Deputy Managing Director of Gulf Craft Inc and Captain Patricia Caswell – General Manager of Gulf Craft Services onboard the very boat that Mohammed Hussein AlShaali (Chairman of Gulf Craft) calls his own was one of those. I know you are going to listen to this one at least twice. You see interviewing Abeer is a delight. She is one of the most articulate and interesting people I have ever met and is it any wonder their business Gulf Craft Inc has been expanding whilst some other boat builders have been retracting. Is this because they are in a part of the world that is continuing to grow or is it because they are meeting the market worldwide on what the market are asking for? I would suggest it's both. Captain Patricia Caswell has had a distinguished career in the yachting sector. Currently serving as General Manager of Gulf Craft Services, she previously held the role of Quality Control Manager. With extensive hands-on experience as a yacht captain, Patricia ensures the highest standards in yacht building, overseeing processes from design to delivery. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the successful sea trials of the Majesty 175, the world's largest composite production yacht. She was recently elected as Vice Chair of the Leisure Marine Association (LMA) for 2025. If you are not aware of Gulf Craft Inc as a boat brand let me help you out a bit here. Gulf Craft are an Emirati brand built in the UAE. (I know that kind of doubles up - but sometimes we need a deeper understanding in regions we don't know well if we haven't been there) They produce 5 brands: Majesty Yachts – for those of you that have chartered “One World” in Sydney she is one of these Nomad Yachts – for those of you that have chartered “BlueStone” in Sydney she is a Nomad 101 and in fact she is featured on the Gulf Craft Website in of course the iconic position right in front of the beautiful Sydney Opera House. Oryx – these are fast and fabulous Sports Cruisers designed for fishing or just having fun Silver Craft – Fishing and Day boats And Finally Silver Cat – their name gives them away of course as their Catamaran range (of the motor variety) So, as you can see, they're covering quite a range of client types and budgets. This in itself is a clever strategy as most of us know in the boating industry - most boat owners will start small and grow big as time in their life and their bank account progresses. Their dominance at Dubai Boat Show with 18 boats on display showed not only their versatility but also their support of the industry in this region. In this podcast we delve into what they have done in their company to attract more women and what they do especially for them to make them feel supported. Surely though, the most obvious move they have made is engage two strong women at the very helm of the business. You see once the team look up to that, and the world sees the success they achieve – that's when changes happen, that's when others can see what they can do and are encouraged to aim high (this is the difference with women, some of us need that). That's when other companies think about following the lead too. So, thank you to Gulf Craft Inc for being one of those showing the way for women in our industry. I know some think we don't need to dwell on this still, but the reality is, we still need to shine a light, we still need to be there to encourage, support and celebrate the progress. About Gulfcraft: Gulf Craft envisages success not as the reward for our innovation, but as a motivation to set out on a path of difference, with dedication and commitment, while creating world-class masterpieces that truly belong to the waters of the world. From manufacturing fishing boats to megayachts, and standing amongst the top superyacht builders around the world, the company nurtures and preserves each brand's distinctive identity. Since the company's inception in 1982, Gulf Craft has grown to become one of the top seven shipyards in the world. From being a builder of small fishing boats in modest premises, a genuine passion for the sea led Gulf Craft to establish its credentials as a leader of innovation and technology in the yachting industry. With five brands in the product portfolio, ranging from 32 to 175 feet, Gulf Craft manufactures yachts and boats that appeal to a wide audience such as touring passenger's vessels, Silvercraft family day boats, Oryx Sport Cruisers, Nomad Adventure Yachts, and the flagship Majesty Yachts. Utilizing advanced technology, powerful engineering, timeless design, and world-class craftsmanship, Gulf Craft is today recognized as one of the world's premier yacht manufacturers. https://www.gulfcraftinc.com/ About the Leisure Marine Association The Leisure Marine Association, headquartered in Dubai, is a leading trade association representing the interests of the boating and yachting industry across the Middle East and North Africa. The LMA advocates for the leisure marine community, working tirelessly to promote the industry and support its stakeholders.

On March 12, 2006, 4 U.S Soldiers stationed in Iraq committed a very horrific crime against a 14-year-old girl and her family. Abeer Al Janabi had her whole life ahead of her. She was timid but kind. Her and her family lived in a farmhouse near a U.S Military Checkpoint. The soldiers from the checkpoint would often harass Abeer and make her feel uncomfortable with their stares. They would even go as far as telling one another their plans on taking advantage of her. This story takes so many twists and turns, with many innocent lives taken. The road to bringing justice to the Al Janabi family is heartbreaking, but it also raises awareness to whistleblowers. The Army attempted to deal with the investigation and arrests under the radar, but the crimes came to light when another horrific tragedy took place. For over two months, violence has raged on the Gaza Strip. Since the world snapped to attention on October 7, just under 20,000 Palestinians and 1300 Israelis (around 400 IDF soldiers) have died in the so-called "Israel-Hamas War" a carefully curated framing of the violence. This is an awful moment, and has led a number of experts to name the actions visited upon Palestinians as genocidal. Kevin and Gerardo join the conversation. Perhaps later than some would hope. But we wanted to learn, listen, and elevate before seizing a social media moment. Enter Abeer Shinnawi, our friend, a Palestinian teacher in the United States. Abeer calls upon us to teach the Palestinian struggle as a social justice/civil rights movement. She shares with us the privilege she has by living in the United States, but the pain she feels, as the Palestinian experience has been largely minimized, demonized, and erased. But in the midst of it all, she still believes that teachers can make a difference, to help students see that there is a civil rights imperative at work here. Abeer Sinder is a Saudi model, lifestyle influencer, wife and mother. When Abeer first noticed the lack of representation of black women from the region on social media and questioned why she had to draw makeup inspiration from foreign beauty influencers, she took matters into her own hands. Putting into action the phrase “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” Sinder created a YouTube channel catering to black Arab women and became Saudi Arabia's first black beauty vlogger. Although her goal was to challenge stereotypical beauty standards and uplift other women in the Arab world who look like her, she was met with major backlash. Beauty influencer Abeer Sinder has founded her fanbase on challenging beauty stereotypes. “I am driven by the knowledge that girls look up to me - I feel the responsibility of promoting individuality and inspiring them to be true to themselves.” #hikmatwehbi#abeersinder #podcast #arabicpodcast #hikmatwehbipodcast #wstudio حكمت_وهبي# حكمت_وهبي_بودكاست# بودكاست#

I learned so much in this conversation with Abeer, a student from Oman. I admit before she shared the information about Ramadan, I had no idea. It is an incredible religious observance, and as a teacher who has students who observe there is an incredible amount of resilience. I think listening and learning from other cultures is an important way to build community and empathy. We can all work on our listening skills.

Going after what makes you happy as an Arab Muslim woman doesn't always come with instant gratification. There is pain and guilt involved when finally making a decision for yourself.I often wonder to myself, will I ever experience happiness without allowing myself to poison the moment by the idea that I'm making others unhappy in return.Grief is interesting when it shows up in moments where you are welcoming a new chapter in your life - a chapter you have been making dua for for the longest. Yet somehow and someway without an invite, grief can show up and incessantly knock on your door and you have no choice but to acknowledge it.But I'm trying my best to not allow grief to paralyze me, or to instill fear in me and prevent me from entering this new chapter of my life. I am someone who has stayed in her comfort zone for far too long and so, naturally self doubt is trying to keep me here a bit longer but for the first time I'm refusing to do so.Someone else who may understand what I am going through is none other than Abeer Najjar. She is a self taught chef and food writer, born on the Southside of Chicago to Palestinian immigrant parents - and in today's episode Abeer shares with us her journey of self growth and self development as an Arab woman.I have a heart to heart with Abeer in regards to some of her most recent decisions that she has made and how that has impacted her relationship with her parents. I've realized that when discussing the topic of self development as an Arab woman it is almost impossible to not touch upon our past and current relationship with our immigrant parents and how that has shaped the decisions we are making today. As grown adults how can we transform our bond with our parents to welcome them into the new chapters of our lives? We also can't forget about the picture of Abeer at Umrah going viral - a picture that had captured a beautiful moment between Abeer and her brother - but I also wanted to discuss the experiences she had at Umrah, the ones that weren't captured within this photo and the reflections she can share with us that she has brought back from her trip. How does ihsan and taqwa play a role in our lives as Muslim women who are trying to forge a new path for themselves, while balancing a relationship with their parents and working towards emotional independence?Enjoy and follow the pod on Instagram:@unsweetenedandunfilteredFollow Abeer Najjar on Instagram:@abeernajjar_Check out Abeer's blog:Click here

Jordanian Proven Entrepreneur Abeer stand amongst the ranks of great entrepreneurs. She is a woman, a mom, and an entrepreneur, but that didn't stop her from building a multi-million dollar business.Small child, big dreamsAbeer grew up in Jordan, a country whose claim to fame is being the lowest point on Earth. As a child, she watched her father work in one business after another. Her father worked in everything from oil to insurance. Unsurprisingly, Abeer got her work ethic from her father. While everyone else was playing house, she played company with her siblings, where they pretended to run a business from their backyard.Abeer turned her dreams into actual businesses as soon as she could. During college she sold t-shirts and earrings from her dorm. And she also launched a meal delivery program that was 20 years ahead of Uber Eats. While Abeer's early business attempts didn't stand the test of time, they taught her how to run a company. These lessons would help her build one of the most successful women-run businesses in this decade.A natural entrepreneurUpon graduation, Abeer set her sights on growing as a businesswoman. She joined Aramex, the largest logistics, courier, and package delivery company in the Middle East. Over the next five years, she learned the ins and outs of motivation, leadership, and customer service.Abeer started Better Business because she recognized a need among small and medium-sized enterprises. Like other great entrepreneurs, she took what she learned from her first job and applied it to her own business.Better Business is now the leading organization for management consulting and human capital development in Jordan and the surrounding area. Since launching in 2003, Better Business has given over 500 companies a brighter future. Abeer credits Better Business's growth to consistency. She always makes sure to lead by example and encourages her team to practice what they preach. This allows Better Business to follow through on every promise that it makes to its clients.A businesswoman for the modern ageThe COVID-19 pandemic presented an important challenge for Abeer. By this time, after almost two decades in the business, the company was running smoothly. All of a sudden, COVID-19 restricted how they could run their programs and seminars. Instead of insisting on the status quo, Abeer met with her team to find a new course of action. Within three days, they pivoted their set-up online. Today, Better Business counts companies in Asia and the US among their clients.Better Business is where it is today because Abeer is fearless. She constantly and continuously pushes boundaries to be all that she can be. In 2013, she climbed to Mt Everest base camp with a group of great entrepreneurs to help raise $1M for cancer research. It is this level of work and commitment that allows Better Business to help its clients be all that they can be. provenadjectivedemonstrated by evidence or argument to be true or existing."a proven ability to work hard"(of a new method, system, or treatment) tried and tested.en·tre·pre·neurnouna person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.The Proven Entrepreneur - Success Stories share real stories from real entrepreneurs about how they got where they are.https://provenentrepreneurshow.comhttps://donwilliamsglobal.com
