The People's Recorder was funded in part with a grant from Wisconsin Humanities. But did you know that Wisconsin Humanities also has their own podcast, Human Powered? Hosted by Adam Carr and Dasha Kelly Hamilton, Human Powered focuses on the power of the humanities in Wisconsin's prisons. We wanted to share an episode from that terrific show with you today. People in prisons are cut off from their families, their communities, and in some cases their own feelings. Making art in prison can be a way to affirm your humanity in a place that is often dehumanizing. So, when organizers of an exhibit of prison art put out a call for submissions, they were flooded with responses from incarcerated artists working without support, formal programs or materials. This episode tells the story of that exhibit. Guests: Joshua GreslJohn TysonSarah DemerathDebra BrehmerLearn more about Human Powered at www.wisconsinhumanities.org/podcast Hosted on Acast. Adam earned his MBA at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business and was selected as the Most Outstanding Student of his 2019 MBA Cohort. Adam lives in Dublin, OH with his wife Tarah and their three children, Noah, Jonah, and Norah. THE PROBLEM 80,000 Warriors were lost to suicide in the last decade. To put this in perspective, during 18 years of combat in Vietnam, 58,209 Warriors lost their lives. WARRIORS OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN: BY THE NUMBERS There are 2.6 million Warriors who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. A 2014 study of 2,150 Warriors revealed some startling statistics regarding Post Traumatic Stress that bring into question earlier estimates regarding the number of Warriors affected by their experiences in the combat zone. It is possible that as many as 75% of the respondents of this study suffer from Post Traumatic Stress. Even if not all respondents do meet the requirements for diagnosis, it is obvious that they are encountering some mental or emotional difficulties after serving in the combat zone and could benefit from opportunities to heal. Unfortunately, most of those who have sought care have not found healing. A recent study by the American Legion found that only 16% of Warriors who were treated at the VA for Post Traumatic Stress with talk-therapy and medication management reported that those methods were clearly beneficial for their health. ‣ Only 16% of Warriors report improvement after undergoing the medication management and talk therapy treatment at the VA. ‣ The VA spends roughly $8,300 per Warrior with PTS, annually. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tango-romeo/message

It was an explosive season finale on Penny Dreadful as a literal race war broke out onto the streets of Los Angeles. The Vega family once again found themselves at the center of the battle for the soul of their city. Dr. Craft felt the pull towards being a Nazi once again to protect his son Tommy, taking pride to a whole new level. Tiago lost the love of his life, as Sister Molly realized she could no longer function as a religious puppet for her mother. Maria, comforted by Raul, and Josefina remains confident that she has dispelled the Angel of Death from her household. And Councilman Townsend celebrates the building of his Motorway next to the Temple and Nazis. Luckily we still have Michener (sad after killing Rocket Boy who was ready to build destructive bombs with the power of 1,000 Suns) and Detective Vega who are ready to protect their city of angels. Happy Season One! AfterShow hosted by Cody Epperson (@codyyepp), Toree Weaver (@toxicmodel), and Adam Carr (@funnyguy1985).

Her internet show “Laff It Off With Grace” is still currently in syndication around the country. Since taking each city by storm, the blond bombshell has accomplished a lot. One was her win of a Big Easy Entertainment Award for Best Actress in a Comedy for her supporting role in Walt Donk’s stage play “Rio Seco.” Another was to develop a sitcom, “For the Love of Grace,” being mentored by Ellen Sandler (an Emmy Award nominee for her work on “Everybody Loves Raymond”.) Her one woman show... the Latin American Princess’ international search for her Knight in Shining Armor...“Sleeping Booty: A Modern Fairy Tale” recently had a one night only sneak peek garnering audience comments that included, “very entertaining,” “incredibly sincere, funny and intimate” and “an incredible accomplishment-so much humor and heart.” So now,” reflects Grace, “I get them off the streets and they pay me for hooking ‘em with my humor”... or ...“When I started dating she told me that if a man hits on you on a date, throw ice on his crotch. Most women carry a purse on a date, I carry a cooler”...and “Am I Crazy? I moved 9,000 miles away from her and now she has a computer. I didn’t buy a computer... I bought 9,000 miles of umbilical cord!” Since founding Juan-ah- Laff Productions in 2000, Grace Fraga now considers herself... “A truly assimilated American girl...with hair by Clairol, boobs by Victoria’s Secret and bootie by McDonald’s.” She also likes to describe herself as...“ Just a Spanish Valley girl, with Neiman Marcus tastes, living on a K-Mart budget!” Recently, with Emmy Award winner Anne Beatts, she co-created, wrote, produced and starred in webisodes of “Dr. Lupe’s Love Picante” . Currently her comedy DVD “Full of Grace” is distributed by New Wave Entertainment and is available on iTunes and Amazon.com. Grace can now add author to her impressive list of accomplishments. Her two book titled, “Love at First Ex”, has been getting excellent reviews on amazon.com. The book teaches how to incorporate your Ex’s into your life. “The Ex-men factor is practical and useful,” she comments. “They are full of surprises and resources. So, don’t feel bad

What can you say about Penny Dreadful after the fourth Episode? This show rich in both historical context and violence certainly doesn't disappoint heading into episode 4. Tiago goes further down the rabbit hole following his love for Sister Molly even as she spasms onstage for his little sister Josefina after a brutal pat down from Officer Riley which not only lay the plans for his imminent demise but showcases just how disgusting and dreadful his character can be. Mateo slashing his neck with a straight edge razor oddly carried with it a feeling of calm, even though we know that spilling Blue Blood can only bring more to the already bloody streets of Los Angeles. Lastly, we get to see more of councilman Townsend as he dances into a new cheap motel with his Nazi caretaker. All in all, passion and blood boil over in this intensely violent show. Join Princess Carroll and Adam Carr to tease that we're starting a Letterkenny After Show! The Canadian comedy hit is returning for a new season; but we're not only covering that. Let's start at the beginning! Seasons 1 through the end, join THE AFTERBUZZ TV LETTERKENNY AFTER SHOW PODCAST as every week we break down the Hockey, the Farts, the Canada, and dibs those digits fellas. Subscribe and comment to stay in the know! About Letterkenny: Letterkenny revolves around the antics of the residents of a small rural Canadian community called Letterkenny. Expanding the cast from the web series, the series focuses on Wayne and Katy (created for the TV series, though obliquely referenced earlier, unnamed), siblings who run a small farm and produce stand, with help from Wayne's two friends: Daryl and "Squirrely" Dan (created for the TV series). It also focuses on a pair of local hockey players (Reilly and Jonesy) who are involved in a polyamorous relationship with Katy. Episodes deal with life in a small town, amongst different types of people: the farmers (the "hicks"), the out-of-towners who make up the local hockey team, the town's minister, the local drug addicts (the "skids"), and members of the local First Nation (the "natives"). Often plots revolve around Wayne defending his reputation as "the toughest guy in Letterkenny", the exploits of the perennially losing local hockey team, Wayne's attempts to break up his sister's open relationship with two of the members of the team, schemes by "the skids" to rip off the residents of both Letterkenny and a nearby First Nations reserve, and Wayne's various attempts to find love after the breakup of his high school sweetheart relationship of five years. In later seasons, the scripts feature wordplay and puns as a running joke to convey the intelligence of the small town characters.

Hello everyone. I'm excited to share the fourth episode of Art City Radio with you, our weekly podcast about culture in Milwaukee. For this week's show, I share a story that I've had tucked away for weeks. I interviewed Miranda Levy, a local artist who had landed a spot on "Project Runway" this year. We talked before one of the first episodes of the fashion-fueled reality TV show. I asked Miranda why some of her designs resembled her military uniform. That's when she told me a story -- of what propelled her into the U.S. Army, what the military gave to her, the suffering she endured at the hands of her male colleagues and the art projects that helped her reconstructed her identity. It's a hard story but ultimately a hopeful one. Every time I thought about writing it up it didn't quite feel right in the context of the "Project Runway" season. Also, so much of the story resides in Miranda's voice, in the poise and eloquence with which she tells it. Now that we have this podcast, it seemed like the perfect way to share it. She'll talk about the Veterans Book Project, a library of books written collaboratively with artist Monica Haller and veterans. Collectively, this archive represents a larger narrative about the impact of war and the nature of military service. Haller worked with the Milwaukee Art Museum to connect with local veterans. Also this week, I ask Adam Carr to share some of his peeved impressions of "Station to Sation," the cross country, whistle-stop art happening that's got the whole art world buzzing right now. We saw it in Chicago this week. And the Art City contributors are on the phone with ideas for art to see this weekend, too.
