In this deeply resonant episode of the No One Fights Alone Podcast, Brad, Max, and Josh sit down with recently retired Fire Captain Josh Grandinetti—founder of Foundation Fortified—to explore how mindfulness can become a lifeline for first responders. From the invisible toll of trauma and the “responder feedback loop,” to learning how to slow down false mental dispatches, Josh unpacks the science and soul behind building a mindfulness practice. He candidly shares his own journey from anxiety and emotional overload to compassion, clarity, and healing. This conversation dismantles the stigma that mindfulness is “hippie stuff” and reframes it as a skill—one that sharpens attention, softens reactivity, and strengthens relationships both on and off duty.Whether you're a skeptic or a seasoned practitioner, this episode offers practical insight, humor, and encouragement for anyone navigating the demands of a high-stress profession.

PTSD and Trauma Among First Line Emergency Responders: Role of Mindfulness and Meditation

PTSD and Trauma Among First Line Emergency Responders: Role of Mindfulness and Meditation. First responders—firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians—often face intense, life-threatening situations. Their jobs regularly expose them to traumatic events, such as car accidents, fires, violent crimes, and the deaths of colleagues or civilians. These experiences can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), trauma, anxiety, depression, and burnout. This amazing interview and his story is available as a free podcast available on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and many other podcast platforms.  Josh Grandinetti is a career fire fighter and Fire Captain. He talks about how a firefighter's simple mistake during a car fire tragically resulted in a man's death. The passing of a founding member of their fire department further intensified the emotional toll, illustrating how trauma manifests differently in individuals within the same profession. And how those and other incidents had a profound effect on Fire Fighters and other first responders that were involved. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and most all social media platforms. Exposure to trauma as a first responder can lead to PTSD, or as I prefer to call it PTSI. PTSD symptoms in first responders often include nightmares, flashbacks, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and physical symptoms like chronic pain and headaches. The cumulative exposure to trauma can lead to emotional numbness, hyperarousal, intrusive thoughts, and avoidance behaviors. This can significantly impact their personal and professional lives, reducing their ability to function effectively. Therefore, it's crucial to acknowledge the severity of these issues and seek appropriate support to navigate the complex emotions and challenges faced by these professionals. The Unique Challenges of First Responders First responders are the first on the scene at critical incidents, which often involve life-threatening situations, frightening events, and extreme stress. Such exposures place them at a higher risk for developing PTSD, major depressive disorder (MDD), panic disorder (PD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The psychological toll of repeated exposure to traumatic stressors can exacerbate existing mental health conditions and contribute to diminished work performance, early retirement, substance abuse, and, in extreme cases, suicide. PTSD and Trauma Among First Line Emergency Responders: Role of Mindfulness and Meditation. The entire interview with him is available as a free podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, our website or most major podcast platforms. The U.S. National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive defines "first responders" as those who are responsible for protecting and preserving life, property, evidence, and the environment in the early stages of an incident. This role demands not only physical preparedness but also psychological resilience. Be sure to follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on  Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak and Medium and numerous other social media platforms. The Role of Mindfulness in Managing Trauma Josh Grandinetti, a Fire Captain with the Eloy Fire Department in Arizona, is an advocate for mindfulness as a tool to help first responders manage stress and trauma. The Eloy Fire District, established in 1946, serves over 10,300 residents and is staffed by 35 full-time and 1 part-time employee. Grandinetti's journey with meditation began eight years ago and quickly proved beneficial in his firefighting career, helping him better manage stress and detach from traumatic experiences. Inspired by his own experiences, Grandinetti founded "Foundation Fortified," a mindfulness training organization specifically designed for first responders. The organization aims to provide mindfulness as a professional standard and a personal tool for those in the field. It focuses on teaching mindfulness as a trainable skill that can help reduce suffering, bring inner calm, and enhance clarity. PTSD and Trauma Among First Line Emergency Responders: Role of Mindfulness and Meditation.  Mindfulness involves non-judgmental awareness of one's moment-to-moment experience, which can help first responders manage the unique challenges they face on and off duty. This practice can reduce stress, anxiety, and the urge to resort to ineffective coping mechanisms .Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, MeWe and other social media platforms.  Articles about this are on Newsbreak and Medium. Foundation Fortified: Promoting Mindfulness Among First Responders Foundation Fortified provides training sessions, guided meditations, and materials to help first responders build a healthier state of mind. This training encourages the development of skills that can improve mental health and well-being, both in professional settings and in personal lives. By fostering mindfulness, first responders can achieve a sense of calm, focus, and resilience, enabling them to navigate their demanding roles more effectively. PTSD and Trauma Among First Line Emergency Responders: Role of Mindfulness and Meditation.  The organization recognizes that any new skill can be tough to learn, particularly for first responders accustomed to constant action and quick decision-making. However, mindfulness is a different form of training, one that begins with accepting that one does not always need to perform an action to achieve a result. It encourages individuals to release the impulse to act immediately and instead notice the changes that arise in the moment. This practice can help first responders develop a sharper, more focused mind and fortify it through continued practice. Spreading Awareness and Support Foundation Fortified actively promotes its mission through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The organization also reaches a broader audience listen to this interview available as a free podcast on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms., We discuss mindfulness, trauma, and mental health strategies for first responders. The aim is to provide accessible resources and build a community of support for those who serve on the front lines. PTSD and Trauma Among First Line Emergency Responders: Role of Mindfulness and Meditation.  By incorporating mindfulness and meditation into their daily routines, first responders can better manage the emotional and psychological toll of their work. It's a simple yet profound approach to healing, providing a foundation for mental resilience and clarity amid the chaos they face every day.

In this episode, Bernadette shares that you don't need a college degree to be a successful real estate agent as you can be a craftsman, or even just have some vocational skills. Bernadette also discusses how it is important for new agents to be patient, and not rush into anything. Bernadette shares the importance of being hyperactive and reading a lot of self-help books.    With a background in sales, Bernadette Grandinetti started her real estate career in 2019. Despite learning how to navigate in a tumultuous real estate market, she was able to reach close to $4 Million in Sales Volume her first year, while also breaking a local record with the highest-ever sales price for an Intracoastal-front home in St. Augustine and was also the highest sales price the market had seen at that time. Bernadette is outrageously aware that maintaining trust and integrity is just the first step in this rewarding career - these skills have proven true in her business, resulting in over $20 Million in Sales Volume in the past 12 months putting her at Diamond Level status with her broker, Engel & Völkers. The 1930s are an underrepresented decade in historical fiction--particularly Christian fiction--so when I learned that Danielle Grandinetti has written a book, A Strike to the Heart, set during the Wisconsin milk riots of 1933.  I mean, how cool is that? Listen in and see! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Are You As Excited about This New Release As I Am? Oh, my gracious!  I had such a blast chatting with Danielle Grandinetti about her upcoming release!  In preparation for that release, I'm reading To Stand in the Breach this weekend.  EEEP! So excited. Anyway, Danielle and I chatted about what she loves about historical fiction, how her grandmother's stories fueled some of the passion behind this book, and even where some of the ideas came from. We also talked about how she wrote about the milk strikes and the pouring out of milk during the depression at the same time dairy farmers were pouring out milk they couldn't afford to get to market during the pandemic.  What an eerie coincidence. From racial differences in different areas of the country to her personal focus on immigrants, this conversation is peppered with Danielle's passion for the 1930s as well as a whole lot of laughter.  My book is on preorder (you can get it as of this morning for just $0.99!) Not surprisingly, Danielle's favorite authors include some of mine, and we chat a little about that as well.  All in all, I had a great time talking about her books (including her middle-grade novel!  Check it out!) A Strike to the Heart by Danielle Grandinetti She's fiercely independent. He's determined to protect her. Wisconsin, 1933—When a routine mission becomes an ambush that kills his team, Craft Agency sniper Miles Wright determines to find the persons responsible and protect the woman he rescued. But the fierce independence that led Lily Moore to leave her family's dairy business for the solitary life of a dog trainer and the isolation of her farm doesn't make that easy. Neither does his unwanted attraction to her. Meanwhile, escalating incidents confirm that she's far from safe. Lily fears letting the surprisingly gentle retired marine into her life almost as much as she fears whoever is threatening her. As Wisconsin farmers edge toward another milk strike, one that will surely turn violent, it becomes clear that the plot against Lily may be part of a much larger conspiracy. When the search for her abductor leads close to home, she must decide whether to trust her family or the man who saved her life. On today's episode, Bunch discusses his latest for The Washington Post, “The Oscars are niche entertainment now. Just let Netflix stream them” and the dismal awareness numbers for some of the Best Picture nominated films. The show also tackles China's decision to not broadcast the Oscars for a second-straight year and why, the puzzle of who is invited to be a presenter on the show, and predictions for Best Picture. The hosts also tackle the controversy around Jay-Z's Oscar afterparty, scheduled to be held at Los Angeles's iconic Chateau Marmont, a hotel whose controversies have drawn a boycott supported by Issa Rae, Jane Fonda, Spike Lee, Amanda Seyfried, David Diggs and Alfonso Cuarón. The Chateau has faced damning accusations in the last few years, ever since they fired nearly their entire staff at the onset of the pandemic without benefits. Female employees have said they were subjected to sexual harassment, including from owner Andre Balazs (which he has denied); darker-skinned employees have said they were subjected to racist remarks and passed over for promotions, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that the Chateau's managing director, Amanda Grandinetti, referred to one staff member as a “blackie”, and told another to respond to her with “Yessa, massa.” April Blackwell, a Black Chateau worker, said Grandinetti fired her after she complained about a pattern of racist abuse from guests. She is one of two Black employees currently suing the Chateau. The boycott is also supported by the Writer's Guild of America, and a picket line is expected on Sunday night. Keisha Banks, a former Chateau events server, tells The Ankler: “We constantly see Black elites putting their fame and money before their fans. By now, Jay-Z and Beyonce must be aware that Chateau's workers have spoken out about being mistreated. They should be leveraging and moving their dollars elsewhere in solidarity with the people they claim to support and who are calling out for justice. At this point, the news on Chateau is out there, some celebs are willfully choosing to ignore it. The working class is sick of seeing the rich virtue signal.” Chateau Marmont workers and Black clergy leaders are set to hold a press conference and delegation outside ROC Nation in an attempt to make their voices heard and deliver a complaint alleging impending violations of a recently enacted state law protecting workers' jobs.Ed note: After this podcast was taped, a press release was sent out announcing that 22-year veteran employee Walter Almendarez, who was laid off by Chateau Marmont in March 2020, would present legal complaints today to the California Labor Commissioner, alleging that both the Chateau Marmont and Jay-Z's entertainment company ROC Nation are in violation of SB-93, the state return-to-work law, by failing to rehire him and his coworkers in general and specifically for Jay-Z's party. The complaint alleges that the entities failed to offer guest relations, valet, security, and other work to Almendarez and his colleagues, as last year's state law requires. Of the 50 workers with the longest tenures at Chateau Marmont prior to the layoffs, approximately 46 were Latinx.See you next Friday for our next Ankler Hot Seat podcast.
