Remember when you were a little kid and the first 100 days of school was a huge landmark? Well, yesterday Carney celebrated that milestone in his Liberal party leadership — but instead of learning the alphabet and how to get along with his classmates, he cancelled the carbon tax, tried to rush two problematic bills through parliament, and reinvited the already uninvited Modi to G7. We are hard-wired and sweating profusely this week YFT fam. Wells is in Costa Rica bartending for the stars while also worrying about unstable internet and the lack of streaming options. How do you say Game of Thrones en espanol?? So…your hosts take the extra time this week to dive deeper into the goss from the last week on planet earth. Brandi joins post-wedding and post-hangover, having crushed an unprepared Maid of Honor speech—proof you never let the truth get in the way of a good story. They dive into Ozempic rumors, horse genetics, whether we need another pope (can we get a millennial one?), and debate the worthiness of a genie wish—$50 trillion vs. a good sandwich. Tate McRae is one of the most popular artists in the world — but millions of my peers have only the faintest idea of who she is. Alternately, they're baffled by her. Is she Britney rebooted? Is she talented? What does she mean? Does it matter? After listening to Reanna Cruz guide listeners through McRae's sound on Switched on Pop, I knew I wanted them to come on the show and work through more of McRae's image. We talk about her sound, of course, but also consider her through the lens of her Canadianness, her Gen-Z-ness, her ‘organic' songwriting success on YouTube, and her popular girl vibes. Thanks to the sponsors of today's episode!Article: Article is offering our listeners $50 off your first purchase of $100 or more. McInnes and Goldstein both started in zines. The underground DIY magazine culture of the 80s and 90s. Zines were homemade photocopied pamphlets about anything and everything. As long as you had paper, glue, staples, maybe a few shitty drawings, and you could sneak access to a photocopier, you could publish your own zine.Nobody went viral, nobody made money, no one was an influencer, but thousands of people devoted heart and soul to making their own zines. And when they did, well, who even cared? Who even noticed when some teenager shouted into the void? Broken Pencil noticed. Broken Pencil cared. For 30 years Broken Pencil was the magazine about zines and BP reviewed over 10,000 zines. And then last year Broken Pencil founder and publisher Hal Niedzviecki, shuttered BP. In 1980 someone detonated a bomb outside a synagogue in Paris. Four people were killed. Suspicion immediately fell on French neo-nazi groups. But soon investigators turned their attention to groups from the Middle East. Then the case went cold. For decades. Then, in 2008, the RCMP arrested an Ottawa-based sociology professor. What follows is a twisting tale of extradition, years of interrogation, and ultimately a trial and conviction in absentia. But today the person at the heart of the story, Hassan Diab, is free and living in Canada despite being convicted of the bombing in France. The case is back in the headlines with Elon Musk and Pierre Poilievre, among others, asking why a convicted terrorist is a free man walking the streets of Canada. Canadaland has spent a year and a half digging into the story of Hassan Diab. Today we bring you a preview of our new series: The Copernic Affair.Host: Jesse BrownCredits: Tristan Capacchione (Audio Editor and Technical Producer), Bruce Thorson (Senior Producer), Sam Konnert (Fact Checker),` max collins (Director of Audio), Jesse Brown (Editor and Publisher)Guests: Dana Ballout, Alex AtackAdditional music by Audio NetworkSponsors: Squarespace: Check out https://squarespace.com/canadaland for a free trial, and when you're ready to launch use code canadaland to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain.Article: Article is offering our listeners $50 off your first purchase of $100 or more. Siri has a body. AI's most familiar voice is not just a disembodied all-knowing benefactor of trivia, recipes, and everything else you can't recall (or never knew) at any particular moment. According to Professor James Muldoon, author of Feeding the Machine: The Hidden Human Labour Powering AI, “... AI has a material body and exists only through new chips, servers and cables being manufactured and added to the machine. And just like a physical body, AI's material structure needs constant nourishment through electricity to power its operations and water to cool its servers every time we ask ChatGPT a question or use an internet search engine. The machine lives and breathes through this digital infrastructure.”The physical body that makes up AI is not just sucking up water and power. AI is also built on the backs of real people. Not just the air-conditioned Silicon Valley engineers you might be imagining. AI relies on the work of hundreds of thousands of low-paid workers spread across the global south.Host: Jesse BrownCredits: Caleb Thompson (Audio Editor), Tristan Capacchione (Audio Editor and Technical Producer), Written and Presented by Bruce Thorson (Senior Producer), max collins (Director of Audio), Jesse Brown (Editor and Publisher)Fact checking by max collinsAdditional music by Tristan Capacchione and Audio NetworkFurther reading:What's behind the AI boom? Happy New Year, YFTers! So, 2025 is gonna be the best year ever, mmkay? We can FEEL it. Plus, resolutions just feel more attainable with a best-year-ever mindset, right? Speaking of resolutions, Wells is determined to tighten up his Sinatra-esque crooning skills this year, and Brandi wants to get in the habit of saying no to more things and protect that precious time we all need more of. The two dive into the Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni headline wondering who's at fault, and Wells tells us about his jaunt up to Whistler, Canada where he picked up a cheesy new nickname due to his undying love of Kraft Singles. Also, the restaurant scene in nearby Vancouver, Canada gets an A++ rating, and WTF is with QR codes now to order at restaurants instead of actual table service? Lastly, Brandi has a bone to pick with the producers of the show Virgin River and their portrayal of horse care (spoiler: horses don't usually just live in a vacant barn by themselves), and Wells talks about getting heckled during a speech he gave at his Grandma's birthday. People on the left call her a police informant, a self-hating Palestinian, a racist, a Zionist, a TERF, and a fascist. But she also has haters on the right, labelling her a leftist, Antifa, and a World Economic Forum diva. She's a lawyer by trade. But describes herself online as a journalist, a satirist, a media personality and a protest watcher. That last title is the one that brings the most trouble.Anti-vax protests, freedom convoy protests, anti-trans protests, Israel/Palestine protests, over the last few years she's captured and posted an archive of protest footage few mainstream outlets have either the time or resources to rival. Along the way she's managed to irk the entire political spectrum. She's been criticized by the Canadian Association of Journalists, the Canadian Anti Hate Network, and the Law Society of Ontario for allegedly harassing behaviour. But how? Why? Dude, it's December? Brandi and Wells are back from Thanksgiving with a new episode that includes an update about why Brandi has been offline and a rant from Wells about the biggest villain of all time. It's hard to go about normal life when time is moving at superspeed and aliens are taking over, but your hosts do not leave you hanging this week with plenty of new faves. For example, Brandi watched a new movie that involves constantly being high and Wells cried during a kid's movie! They also give some suggestions about what content to skip, which might actually include Harry Potter (if you're anything like Brandi), but definitely does not include the best Christmas movie of all time, The Family Stone. Plus, they discuss the true meaning behind Billy Joel's Piano Man, explain why horses don't deserve their bad rap, and introduce a new segment: Fun Mormon Facts! With the new national dental care plan, Canadian taxpayers are now underwriting the dental industry. More than one million Canadians have dental care under the new national insurance plan, with an average spend of $730 per patient. By 2025, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will expand in a big way, and will cover 6 million additional Canadians. As taxpayers start to foot the bill for dental care, how do we make sure dentists are not overprescribing services for their patients?Host: Jesse BrownCredits: Kevin O'Keefe (Reporter), Tristan Capacchione (Audio Editor and Technical Producer), Bruce Thorson (Senior Producer), max collins (Director of Audio & Creative Production), Jesse Brown (Editor and Publisher)Additional music by Audio NetworkSponsors: CAMH: CAMH is building better mental health care for everyone to ensure no one is left behind. It's Hump Day! Emma speaks with Ettingermentum of the "Ettingermentum Newsletter" on SubStack to discuss the results of the 2024 election. First, Emma runs through the big updates on Trump's victory in the Presidential election, the GOP's taking of the Senate (and likely keeping the House), exit polls, the success and failure of various abortion referendums, and California's tough-on-crime referendum, before expanding on their personal reflections on the GOP's overwhelming victory yesterday. Ettingermentum then joins, as he and Emma where their polling predictions went wrong, also unpacking why Dems learned all of the wrong lessons from their success in the 2022 midterms – particularly in terms of interpreting it as an explicit endorsement of the Biden Administration – and the complete failure of Democrats and Kamala Harris to set forth an alternative vision to the GOP's demagogic fascism and Biden's lethargic liberalism. After briefly touching on the legitimacy of the “Shy” Trump voter, and parsing through the lessons on campaign ground game, Josh and Emma look at the parallels between Obama and Trump's victories – particularly in terms of turning out disengaged voters – and dive deep into what the future of the progressive project will look like under Trump. And in the Fun Half: After expanding on the Right's sweeping victory in yesterday's elections, Emma and the MR Team talk with Kimmy from Kentucky about moving forward as a red-state single mother and the importance of community organizing – both materially and spiritually – and Ronald Raygun shares his reflections on Trump's victory. They also unpack the “lessons” that could be learned, Valerie from Arizona shares some personal messages and a hypothesis, and Blake from Nashville tackles party politics. When COVID hit, the airlines were sitting with billions of dollars in cash that Canadians paid for flights that were all canceled. How much of that money was refunded? Why were vouchers offered instead? And why did the transport regulator that's supposed to uphold the rules bend them to the advantage of Air Canada and other carriers? Reporter Cherise Seucharan has obtained newly-unearthed communications from March 2020 that show airline industry execs, credit card companies, and the transportation ministry, cooperating - perhaps collaborating, to pressure Canada's airline watchdog to bend the rules. Questioning authority is a necessity for a functioning democracy. Continually calling power to account has to be a good thing, right? Maybe not, at least not all the time. So argues today's guest, philosopher Mark Kingwell.Have we let “speaking truth to power” degenerate into a Pavlovian response to any and all real, or merely perceived, sources of authority? Has this drive to habitually challenge institutions endangered politics, academia, science, and journalism?Mark Kingwell joins Jesse to explore these questions which lay at the heart of his new book Question Authority.Host: Jesse BrownCredits: Caleb Thompson (Audio Editor/ Mixer), Bruce Thorson (Senior Producer), max collins (Production Manager), Jesse Brown (Editor and Publisher),Guest: Mark KingwellFurther reading:Question Authority - Mark Kingswell Upcoming BookCan we rescue civility in public discourse?Sponsors: Douglas: Douglas is giving our listeners a FREE Sleep Bundle with each mattress purchase. It's Casual Friday! Joining us is Heather "Digby" Parton from the blog Hullabaloo. Also, H Jon Benjamin, aka the Jazz Daredevil, joins us to talk about his new soundtrack project and his live show in New Jersey. See the Jazz Daredevil in New Jersey here: https://www.subpop.com/artists/jon_benjamin_jazz_daredevil/tours First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the Harris-Walz blue wall press, Trump's interview dropouts, Israel's killing of Yahya Sinwar and ongoing assaults on Gaza and Lebanon, early voting in the US, death and justice in Texas and Tennessee, Secret Services' systemic failures, and an unseemly $30m drop in the polymarket bucket, also parsing through Trump's confusingly bad appearance on Fox and Friends, leaving hosts stunned over his nonsensical ramblings about attack ads and education. Diby then joins, as she helps Sam and Emma unpack Trump's struggles at the most sycophantic of town halls with Univision, as he continues to get in his own way with his lies about January 6th and obsession with anti-immigrant fear-mongering. They also dive into early voting turnout trends, with massive numbers out of swing states highlighted by a particular gender gap favoring Democrat-voting women, and explore what that says about the GOP's low-propensity push, before shifting into an extensive conversation on the Trump campaign's preemptive attacks on election integrity, and what an attempt to steal the election with real political infrastructure behind it could look like. H. Jon. Benjamin. then helps to explore the relationship between luck and success, and why random and annoying DOES, in fact, = funny. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma unpack Jerry Seinfeld's wildly reactionary relationship to comedy, watch Elon Musk make even the most sycophantic audience look awkward, and listen to Donald Trump struggle to tie together some frayed conspiratorial strings about “King of the Woke” Harvey Weinstein, plus, your calls and IMs! It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with David Dayen, executive editor at The American Prospect, & Matt Stoller of the American Economic Liberties Project and author of the BIG newsletter on SubStack, to discuss their new podcast endeavor entitled "Organized Money". First, Sam runs through updates on the impending US presidential election, Israel's ongoing slaughter in Lebanon, backlash to Israeli aggression from the US and UK, the Boeing machinist strike, the 2024 election scheme, the Elon-Adelson money machine, Hurricane Helene's missing persons, Nebraskan voter rolls, and Jerry Seinfeld's musings on the state of comedy, also watching Sean Hannity attempt to run cover for Trump's disastrous appearance discussing policy at the Economic Club of Chicago. David Dayen and Matt Stoller then join, diving right into the roots of their new podcast “Organized Money” in contextualizing and unpacking the evolution of a new, justice-oriented approach to business and the role it plays in modern society. Dayen and Stoller parse through the expansive nature of the indoctrinating pressures of neoliberal institutions that wholeheartedly rejected the topic of anti-trust from the realm of valid politics, tackling the story of four Google anti-trust cases across two Democratic administrations (Obama and Biden) as they explore the breaking-of-the-dam moment that was simply bringing these cases to court. After briefly expanding on the major impact of just acknowledging the issue of extreme corporate greed (and the government's role in it) on US politics as a whole, Matt, David, and Sam step back to explore how this vision of business came to be, with the post-economic crisis vacuum of an alternative to failing neoliberal systems pushing those on the American left to construct an image of an economy not grounded in unfettered power, greed, and exploitation. Wrapping up, they look to the future of this new vision for American business, diving deep into the potential of anti-trust under a kleptocrat like Donald Trump and a seemingly yet-undefined establishment cipher like Kamala Harris. And in the Fun Half: Sam unpacks the Biden Administration's most recent move threatening to apply US law to arms transfers to Israel, Ted Cruz lapses his lack of a backbone as he challenges Colin Allred on the debate stage, and Elon Musk reflects on just how funny his penis truly is. Meredith from Upstate reflects on how Sam's vocal pauses gave her pause, and Ally from New Hampshire helps us explore the average American's supposed desire for a militant anti-immigrant crackdown, plus, your calls and IMs! The late Norval Morrisseau is known as Canada's Picasso. He was the father of the Woodlands style. His work was exhibited at the Pompidou Center in Paris, the National Gallery of Canada, and he was a member of the Order of Canada. Morrisseau is without question one of the most important painters in Canadian history. So why are so-called original Morrisseau paintings selling on eBay for $129? The answer is fraud. The market has been flooded with thousands of fake Morrisseau paintings and prints. In March 2023, eight people were charged and arrested in connection with these fakes and are now starting to be convicted. The police investigation started, in part, because of the Jamie Kastner documentary There Are No Fakes.Credits: Tristan Capacchione (Audio Editor and Technical Producer), Bruce Thorson (Senior Producer), Kevin O'Keefe (Fact Checking), max collins (Production Manager), Jesse Brown (Host and Publisher)Featured guests: Ryan McMahon and Jamie KastnerAdditional music by Audio NetworkFurther information:There Are No Fakes — TVO8 charged over 1,000 paintings seized in Norval Morrisseau art fraud investigation — CBCMan who oversaw massive Norval Morrisseau art forgeries sentenced in Thunder Bay to 5 years in prison — RCISponsors: CAMH: CAMH is building better mental health care for everyone to ensure no one is left behind. It's an EmMajority Report Thursday! Emma speaks with Noah Kulwin and Brendan James to discuss the most recent season of the Blowback podcast. Then, she speaks with Ross Barkan, contributing writer at New York Magazine and columnist at Crain's New York, to discuss his recent piece published in The Nation entitled "Is Eric Adams's Luck About to Run Out?" First, Emma runs through updates on Israel's attacks on civilians in Lebanon, the UN General Assembly's overwhelming vote to end Israel's military presence in Gaza and the West Bank, reporting on Biden's weapons transfers, the uncommitted movement, the teamsters' lack of a presidential endorsement, swing state polling, New York State's Democratic Party problem, the Fed, Russian offensives in Ukraine, Beshear's conversion therapy ban, and dropping overdose rates in the US, before parsing a little more thoroughly through the developing story of Israel's en-masse attack of Lebanese citizens (Hezbollah or not) via the use of rigged communications technologies. Emma is then joined by Noah Kulwin and Brendan James as they outline why they chose Cambodia for the focus of the fifth season of Blowback, unpacking its role as a central (and emblematic) node in the constellation of US intervention in Southeast Asia during the Cold War. Expanding on this, Kulwin and James dive into the complex cast of characters that dominate this season, first tackling the Nixon-Kissinger paring that set the blueprint for the entire thing, first sabotaging Vietnam peace negotiations in 1968 to help ensure a GOP victory, before centering a strategy of “Peace with Honor,” by which Nixon meant a shift to more expansive bombing campaigns, and immediately expanding said campaign by pushing Cambodian Royal Norodom Sihanouk to embrace a US carpet bombing campaign on his country (not war, totally not war), all while hiding the entire campaign behind a dual reporting system, separate books, and direct, behind-the-scenes communications between the White House and relevant parties. Shifting focus to Cambodia, Noah and Brendan parse through the Khmer Rouge's origins as an auxiliary, socialist-aligned force with the North Vietnamese (the basis for Nixon's carpet bombing), only to help launch a full-scale Civil War in the wake of the US-backed deposition of Sihanouk by South Vietnam in 1970, resulting in years of bloodshed (increased by ongoing US bombings) that saw the Khmer Rouge gain more and more territory and power, until the formerly-small-guerilla movement successfully sacked the capital city of Phnom Penh, launching five years of forced labor, full-scale genocide and the extermination of ethnic minorities, refugee crises, mass executions and more under the rule of Pol Pot. Continuing, James and Kulwin move into the breakdown of Cambodian society under the brutal regime of Pol Pot and expanding conflict as the Khmer Rouge turned against the North Vietnamese government that had supported them (in part due to the Khmer Rouge's budding relationship with the US and the West), resulting in said government launching a full-scale invasion of Cambodia, getting rid of Pol Pot and establishing a friendly regime, all to the condemnation of the West that had been peacefully watching Cambodians die for nearly a decade. After briefly expanding on the mythology tying the Khmer Rouge's rule to the greater Soviet movement and the obvious failures of said narrative when you look into who was actually supporting the regime, Emma, Brendan and Noah jump to the modern period, unpacking the symbiotic nature of a fully-capitalist Cold War between the US and China, and what that has meant for Cambodian development over the last decade, wrapping up the interview by running through the final figures on the mass deaths from US carpet bombing (100-150k), the US-backed Civil War (300-500k), and the following Cambodian Genocide (1.7m). Ross Barkan and Emma then dive right into the overwhelming cloud of corruption around NYC Mayor Eric Adams, including FOUR federal investigations ranging from domestic to foreign corruption, and the correlating complete incompetence of his governance, with Barkan comparing his administration to a Tammany Hall that didn't actually deliver anything to the people. After briefly expanding on the role an overwhelmingly unpopular New York Democratic Party is having on races up and down the ballot, Ross and Emma tackle the particulars of Adams' corrupt relationship with the NYPD and its deadly impact. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they unpack North Carolina GOP Gubernatorial Nominee Mark Robinson's odd sermon on the ability to take and make life with one's genitalia, JD Vance's continuing commitment to racist conspiracy, and Ryan Grim's cathartic shutdown of Matt Walsh's absurd anti-Haitian bigotry. Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Dr. Melvin Rogers, professor of political science and associate director of the Center for Philosophy, Politics, & Economics at Brown University, to discuss his recent book The Darkened Light of Faith: Race, Democracy, and Freedom in African American Political Thought. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Trump's second would-be assassin, JD Vance's unbridled racism (and the related shutdowns in Springfield, Ohio), the Harris campaign, Boeing's labor strike, Israel's continuing murder of its own citizens, Yemen-Israel conflict, Boar's Head's fiasco, Eric Adam's absurd corruption, and Laura Loomer's budding relationship with Donald Trump, before parsing through JD Vance's claim to have “created” the insane anti-migrant conspiracy around Haitians in Springfield (incidentally, it was actually created by Nazis). Professor Melvin Rogers then joins, first outlining the importance of intellectual history in helping to contextualize the institutions and structures that materially shape our world within the ideas and strains of thought that inspired them, before stepping back to examine the two often contradictory strains of black intellectual thought that dominated how African American intellectual leaders saw the American project's relationship to Black people, be it as a something that is, at its core, about degrading and dominating Black identity, or something that, like all of humanity, is unfinished, malleable, and subject to growth. Professor Rogers then walks Sam through the pre-Civil War evolution of these beliefs, exploring the stories and works of folks like David Walker and Martin Delaney to demonstrate how central the question of the American project was to the push for abolition and Black liberation, with the former presenting a challenge and a disruption to the project while the latter saw it as immutable, best to be abandoned altogether. After reflecting on the model of the American project in the pre-war North, Professor Rogers moves to the post-Reconstruction era, tackling the retrenchment of White Supremacy in the US political system as the resilience of the underlying cultural anti-Black beliefs that the era had failed to address, examining how this issue – one that abolitionists had very much acknowledged – was then addressed by Black intellectuals moving into the 20th century, with folks like Billie Holiday and James Baldwin bringing the contradictions and horrors of American racism to the fore to, once again, challenge the idea of the American project itself, and push white Americans to acknowledge the lingering impact of the ideas that shaped our society. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma quickly parse through the pervasiveness of Eric Adams' corruption and corrosion of New York politics just since he ran for Mayor, before diving deep into the growing controversy around Donald Trump's relationship to far-right activist Laura Loomer, the anti-DEI bigot's refusal to DTR with DJT, and her public beef with MTG where everyone (other than them) won. Trump makes a beautiful snafu, JD Vance tries to address Trump's concept of a healthcare plan by demonstrating his inability to grasp concepts of healthcare itself, and the MR Team discusses Ilhan Omar's reflections on the rhetorical, but materially unsubstantial, divide between Democrats and Republicans over Israel's genocide of Gaza, plus, your IMs! Marwa arrives in Germany and everything surprises her. Raha sends the terrifying sounds of the end of Ramadan. She is increasingly cooped up and angry in Kabul, but she manages to send gifts from there. It always gets harder to talk to Raha. Caroline Gillet doesn't know if it's because of the power cuts, or if Raha can no longer find how to say what she's going through. The end of Ramadan is determined by the stars and in Afghanistan, we observe the decision of the Emirates to announce the start of Eid - El - Fitr. The three-day festival marks the end of the fast. Revolt in all its forms – hidden or revealed – is unfolding in Kabul and in the Abu Dhabi camp. From the start, Caroline Gillet asks Marwa and Raha questions, and they answer. Justin Ling has kind of had it. While the veteran political journalist has endless patience for people in power trying to do the right thing, he can't stand when a government refuses to see reality. So when Canada's Heritage Minister reacted with surprise to the suggestion that, despite everything her government's done for it, the country's news media is still worse off than ever – well, that's enough to radicalize a fella. On this week's show, Karyn and Jonathan talk to Justin about his dispiriting interview with Pascale St-Onge, why he believes the Trudeau government's efforts to save the media have been across-the-board failures, and what it would take to actually turn things around for this industry before it finally collapses and takes Canada's democracy down with it.Correction: in an earlier version of this podcast it was stated 88 per cent of Canadians did not know Meta had wiped news from its platforms, this has been corrected. The number is 78 per cent.Host: Karyn PuglieseGuest: Justin LingCredits: Jonathan Goldsbie (News Editor), Caleb Thompson (Audio Editor), Cherise Seucharan (Reporter), max collins (Production Manager)Further reading on our websiteSponsors: Squarespace Check out Squarespace.com/canadaland for a free trial, and when you're ready to launch use code canadaland to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain. It's so dark outside we're so upset. The dogs don't know what's going on and we should all be in bed. Why can't it be dark in the morning? No one cares about that. The bad news just keeps coming as we learn Brandi popped a veneer just trying to enjoy a freakin' toaster waffle. The price of beauty! Proceeding with their regularly scheduled programming, your hosts dive into Bachelor in Paradise and Golden Bachelor (is Gerry going to have a heart attack? Can someone do a wellness check on Gerry?). Wells also shares how he stirred the pot at Chris' wedding, and his bone to pick with jalapeños. Enjoy! Welcome back to another episode of The Viall Files: Ask Nick Edition! We're back to answer your burning questions about the world of dating and relationships. Before getting to our callers, we discuss the various intentions behind buying someone flowers, Nick's tattoo collection, and his new pup. We also read a submission from someone who's not sure whether to shoot his shot with his co-worker. We then get to our callers. Our first caller has been dating a married man, and isn't sure how to stop. He hasn't asked his wife for a separation, and she isn't aware of the affair, but our caller is still holding out hope the relationship can make it. Our second caller might be overthinking her current situationship. She hasn't dated in a while, and recently moved to a new city, where she's been talking to someone, and can't tell whether she's holding onto the relationship because she's lonely, or if it's time to give it up. Our final caller recently moved in with her boyfriend and his newborn, and is struggling to make the relationship work. The mother of the child is making matters difficult for our caller, but her boyfriend doesn't seem to understand she's struggling as well. “Your time is not infinite. You're either going to invest in him, or you're going to invest in yourself.” Start your 7 Day Free Trial of Viall Files + here: https://viallfiles.supportingcast.fm/ Please make sure to subscribe so you don't miss an episode and as always send in your relationship questions to asknick@theviallfiles.com to be a part of our Monday episodes. Welcome back to another episode of The Viall Files: Ask Nick Edition! We're back to answer your burning questions about the world of dating and relationships. Before getting to our callers, we talk Nick's butt, Dave & Buster's, and helicopter parents. We also read a submission from someone who wants to shoot their shot with their neighbor but isn't sure what to do. We have an extremely in depth discussion on various tactics she could use. We then get to our callers. Our first caller is dating the man she wants to marry, who never wants to get married. As the child of parents who had a messy divorce, our caller's partner doesn't want to repeat mistakes, but our caller is certain marriage is something she needs in a long-term relationship. She's not sure if one of them will compromise, or if she'll have to walk away. Our second caller is wondering if she's self sabotaging her relationship, or if he's just not her person. She's only been in this relationship for a month, but has known this person for 6 years, and feels that there is something off. She wants to know if she's overthinking it, or if it's something deeper. Our final caller is not sure whether she should make things work with the father of her child, or give up once and for all. She's not able to support herself and would have to move back home if they broke up, but she doesn't know if the relationship is salvageable. “*Cough cough* Kevin Costner's ex-wife.” Start your 7 Day Free Trial of Viall Files + here: https://viallfiles.supportingcast.fm/ Please make sure to subscribe so you don't miss an episode and as always send in your relationship questions to asknick@theviallfiles.com to be a part of our Monday episodes. Welcome back to The Viall Files! Today we have a special “where are they now” update show where we bring back some of our previous callers and get an update on what happened after they called in for advice. We first cut back to their initial story and question, the advice they got, how they took the advice and what they learned from the situations they were in. Our first caller reached out to get help shooting her shot with her hot chiropractor, wondering how to be direct in a sticky situation. After revealing in her update that it did not go as she hoped, she talks about what she learned and dives into her new prospects in love. Our next caller wonders if his friend is gay after the friend continues to make flirty advances. Worried that he would ruin the friendship by saying something, our caller wonders the best way to approach the subject. After revealing some new information, our caller checks back in with us to talk about how their friendship has continued and recaps the big conversation they had. Our last caller called in originally after she found out that her boyfriend is actually married with four kids. Feeling that they had a strong connection but getting judgment from her friends, our caller wondered simply what to do. She calls back in to update us about how things have changed. We also read some great updates that past callers wrote in and shared. We get an update from our caller who wondered how to share to her mom that she got tattoos, an update from our mediation callers that were debating if they should get a dog together or wait until they moved to NYC, and our caller that wanted a courthouse wedding while her boyfriend wanted something grand. Welcome back to The Viall Files, Going Deeper edition! Today we are joined by TikToker, reality TV star, and former girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, Holly Madison! On this episode we dive into talking about the release of the new documentary Holly is in about the Playboy Mansion, reflecting on her time living there, and learning to find healthy love after leaving Hefner. We also talk about what bothered her most with her portrayal on Girls Next Door, finding support within friendship despite Hefner creating drama between the women, and finding agency in your sexuality. We also jump into some pop culture topics such as the drama between Jojo Siwa and Candace Cameron Bure, what celebrities owe you in fan interactions, Will Smith's attempt at an apology, Ne-Yo's cheating drama, and luxury retreats couples are going to in order to save their relationships. We then welcome on two Texting Office Hours Callers. Our first caller is a fitness trainer who shoots her shot on a man she's teaching via a post-it note. The Wonderland Murders, or The Four on the Floor case is a case from the old days of Hollywood. It's not the kind of old Hollywood case that Ash usually delivers, this one instead is a totally different take. The Wonderland Gang was made up of a group of people you definitely would not want to mess with, however one of the key players in this case, John Holmes did just that. He got on the bad side of the gang and had to come up with a way to get back in their good graces. Unfortunately that plan would lead to one of the most gruesome mass murders the police had seen since the Tate-LaBianca murders. Pre-Order The Butcher and the Wren: COME AND GET IT! Kenia Monge was 19 years old when she went missing after a night out with her friends in Colorado. While her father Tony was trying to call her friends and find out what had happened that night, a text came through to Kenia's phone from a number she didn't have saved. It was from a man named Travis who claimed to have attempted to give her a ride home the previous night. Tony agreed to go meet the man and talk, but when he shook Travis's hand, he knew he was shaking the hand of the man who killed his daughter. The rest of the events throughout the case are shocking and will have you holding on to your butt til' the very end. “What I recall most is the way that she grabbed my wrist and, shaking a bit, she said over and over again, ‘If it happens, run. Don't let that happen to you. Run. If it ever happens, run.’” It was years before Cynthia Brown understood what her great-grandmother, Athalia Howe, was talking about. Qandeel Baloch grew up in a conservative village in Pakistan, a place where it was shocking to see a woman swimming outdoors. She ran away from home, changed her name, and eventually became "Pakistan's first social media star." By 2015, she was reported to be one of the 10 most Googled people in Pakistan. Internet culture has made depression and anxiety in vogue, with brands marketing their "Depression" and "Anxiety" necklaces and graphic tees. But when was the last time you say "Schizoaffective disorder" on a T-shirt? We talk to Shreye, who you heard on the Effective Altruism and Financial Inclusion episodes, about what it's like having Schizoaffective Disorder and how there is still widespread stigma for the more serious mental health disorders in the broader public, even as it is now commonplace to tweet about having social anxiety. It really is pretty crazy to think about how almost glorified mental health has been in our culture (think Romeo and Juliet) while at the same time so utterly deprioritized by our government on all levels. What if we actually had regular interventions for children experiencing mental health episodes in schools, especially schools with high percentages of low-income kids? What if, after we closed all the asylums in the 90s, we had actually replaced them with real mental health facilities instead of prisons? Brandi is coming to the YFTers after riding horses in the pouring rain and she’s looking for a steaming hot cup of Bachelor tea to get warmed up. Wells doesn’t have all the 411 but he does have plenty of questions, Bachelor-related and otherwise, like: Is this season going to be the biggest dumpster fire ever? What’s happening to TikTok? And, most importantly, did he hallucinate in Big Sur? The co-hosts reveal all their fave things from the past week including an Amazon show that went by too fast, a book that Wells is going to buy for Brandi because it’s that good, and Taylor Swift songs... because we know she needs the promotion. They also discuss a not so favorite thing: door bells in commercials!! Please sign our petition to end the days of commercial door bells so that our dogs stop going crazy, thanks! Wells and Brandi debate whether owning flowers does in fact make you a serial killer and ask a question on all of our minds: why is Noah so sad? The hosts reminisce on the little things they’re starting to miss now that quarantine has gone on for years, including $14 water bottles when you’re hungover and the drama of your luggage being flagged. Wells recaps his lonesome birthday in isolation and catches us up on the latest 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days drama, because what else are we doing these days? Thanks to our awesome sponsors for making this episode possible! This week on YFT, we’re all taking a deep breath because even though the world is in shambles, Brandi Cyrus and “Adam Wells” are here to recommend some new favorite content to binge while you’re in isolation. Back on the homefront, Brandi is surrounded by animals per usual (though one is now wearing a onesie), and Carl is already getting sick of Wells being in quarantine because animals need alone time too, people. The hosts talk about Barb’s bizarre Instagram singing, Miley’s new IGTV series, Bright Minded, and the unicorn golden retriever puppy who has one ear! Suh-cute. Last but definitely not least, we share some new fave things, a review involving missing testicles, and a recently discovered Instagram account that features pics of Wells’ feet. On October 2, 1976, a farmer and his young granddaughter were riding a tractor through the fields of Seneca, Illinois. The farmer saw what he thought to be a deer laying in a ditch and wanted to show his granddaughter. As he approached, he found a young woman, nude, her head covered in a plastic bag and a sweater. The farmer drove back home and notified authorities. Soon after, the Grundy County Sheriff’s officers arrived and found a young black woman dead of a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities tried to identify the woman but no one came forward. They were unable to match her to any missing persons reports. Six weeks later, on Thanksgiving Day, she was buried in an unmarked grave in a local cemetery. 43 years later, she remains unidentified. On this episode of The Vanished, we are taking a look at the other side of missing persons cases; the unidentified.Jane Doe's case was re-opened last year. Deputy Coroner Brandon Johnson and Chief Coroner John Callahan join us to speak about their mission to give Jane Doe her name back. This episode also includes an interview with Cook County Detective Sergeant Jason Moran who is assisting with Jane Doe's case and also working to identify the remaining unidentified victims of serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Finally, we spoke to Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick from the DNA Doe Project about what they are doing to help solve cold cases just like Jane Doe's. The number 8 is full of mystery in the Irish language. There's the "hateful eight" letters that were added in the 20th century. There's a Eighth Amendment, which you may have heard of. And then there's Article 8 of Bunreacht na hÉireann. In this week's episode of Motherfoclóir, Gearóidín wants to clear up any confusion between Article 8 (the status of the Irish and English languages) and the 8th Amendment. They discuss shade in the constitution, the importance of not taking individual lines out of their broader context and consider the role of Ireland in steering English language use in the EU. Could Hiberno-English be the working language of Europe after Brexit? Ah, STOP. --- Contact the show at https://twitter.com/motherfocloir or email us at motherfocloir@headstuff.org.
https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/questtocurecancer My guest on today's podcast, Eric Remensperger, has been a practicing attorney for over 30 years. He is a partner at a major law firm, Proskauer, where he heads up the West Coast real estate practice. But that’s not the most interesting part. Eric is also a major-league biohacker who has cured himself of cancer. I first met Eric at the , and you may have seen his “daily shake” ingredients which appeared at the end of a blog I posted in July of last year entitled “”... I ran into Eric again in December at the , where he told me an incredible story about how his life had changed. In a nutshell, his decades long obsession with health and wellness hit the fastlane when he was diagnosed last spring with stage IV prostate cancer (with a Gleason score of 9), and as a result of that he did an incredibly deep dive into the science behind cancer and the various treatment protocols, some of which I’m sure we’ll get into on the podcast. For those of you who are concerned about cancer, or have been touched by it, I think you will find this a very interesting conversation. As a non-health-care professional who has gone from stage IV metastatic cancer to full remission, Eric can speak freely about his experiences and what he has learned (and continues to learn) about the theories on the causes of cancer and the premises behind the various treatment modalities. His goal is to assist those who wish to take charge of their own care by providing the information needed to better assist them in working with their doctors and healthcare professionals to find the best path to manage the disease by shifting from “cancering” to the body’s natural state of “healing”. Eric lives in Santa Monica, CA, where he is an advanced yogi and a health nut. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Eric went from a cigarette-smoking, divorced lawyer to a complete yogi enthusiast and health nut, far before he found out he had cancer...[10:22] -The one book that stood out from the 21 books Eric read in the 14 days after discovering he had cancer...[24:05] -How "Qi" stagnation and emotional issues can cause cancer...[28:50] -The fascinating experiments by Wilhelm Reich in which he discovered something called "bions" that can precede cancer...[42:00] -The way that quantum physics and vibrational energies can allow you to believe yourself into a state of sickness (and vice versa)...[49:20] -The importance difference between nutritional ketosis and therapeutic ketosis...[52:25] -What Eric discovered about deuterium depletion and it's link to cancer...[54:25] -The one pharmaceutical anti-fungal drug that Eric takes and recommends looking into for anyone who has cancer...[57:40] -Why Eric swears by a one-two combo of hyperbaric oxygen and ozone therapy via rectal insufflation for killing cancer cells...[59:05] -Why Eric completely shut down his testosterone levels and chemically castrated himself...[66:45] -The role of apricot pits and wormwood toxins for shutting down cancer cells...[71:10] -The Pau D' Arco tea blend that both Ben and Eric drink every day to support their mitochondria and cellular health...[74:00] -Why sunlight is crucial to producing something called "GcMAF", a crucial component of your immune system...[76:42] -And much more!
