In today's episode, we're talking with Kayleigh Johnson, mama to 14-month-old Amelia and wife to DJ. Kayleigh and her family live in Massachusetts, where they are planning for the birth of baby number two. Amelia was born in a hospital with an epidural and pitocin experience. To Kayleigh, the pitocin contractions felt very unnatural. They way she puts it, “it felt like it was happening to me.” So after some soul searching, they decided on a home birth for this pregnancy. A big influence? Podcasts and social media! Kayleigh got to see and connect with real people, real stories that seemed attainable and allowed her to see the experience for herself. Kayleigh's faith is integral in her life, and so it's been a part of her birth planning as well. She was able to find a Christian midwife who aligned with her belief system (she even found her midwife on social media! Thank you, technology!). This synergy has been important for the connection she's seeking with her birth team. Kayleigh also has visions she is praying for in her birth. She's believing for a pain-free, no tear, en caul birth. We're happy and honored to hold that intention for her. And we're very excited to share her story with you! Episode 372: LAIDBACK LUKE “Discovering Avicii, DJing on an iPhone, and the Rise of Pre-Recorded Sets” This week on @RoadPodcast, the crew sits down with @LaidbackLuke for a rare deep dive into his Vegas roots, the peak of EDM, and what keeps him inspired after three decades behind the decks. He recalls returning to Las Vegas and the opening of Hakkasan in 2012, a moment he calls the “we won” era of dance music when pop stars like @Pitbull and @IAmWill jumped on the EDM wave (01:66). Luke breaks down those early residencies that felt exotic at the time and how Vegas became a second home (06:10). The conversation turns to his most viral controversy: DJing on an iPhone. Luke explains the real setup behind it, the backlash, and how he uses feedback from that experience to push technology forward (11:27). Between laughs about “Do Not Disturb” mode during sets and Optic calling him the “Kevin Gates of EDM,” Luke shares how he balances innovation with the physical toll of performing that way. Luke also opens up about his respect for open-format DJs, calling them “heavily underrated,” and breaks down his approach to preparing for festivals while staying spontaneous on stage (28:01). Comparing DJing to martial arts, he says the real mastery comes from being prepared enough to adapt in real time (34:01). From there, he dives into the darker side of modern EDM: pre-planned sets, ghost production, and DJs who are “famous for being famous.” He estimates that 80 to 90 percent of festival sets are no longer fully live (36:35). Luke also revisits his time mentoring Avicii, running one of the first online DJ forums, and the wild story of downloading “Levels” on Limewire after fans wouldn't stop requesting it (45:59). Later, he gets personal about burnout, sobriety, and finding longevity in an industry that rarely slows down (53:01). He shares the creative spark behind “Show Me Love” with @SteveAngello (1:19:05), and how that track evolved from “Leave the World Behind” into one of EDM's defining remixes. The episode closes with Luke reflecting on control, collaboration, and his remixes being available on @Beatsource as he continues shaping the next generation of DJs (1:30:01). On this episode of Bringin' It Backwards, Adam Lisicky sits down with Doobie, an artist whose raw blend of rock and hip hop—and brutally honest storytelling—has built a dedicated fanbase. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Doobie shares how a childhood filled with his mom's eclectic music—from Metallica to Tupac—sparked his love for genre-bending sounds. He opens up about writing poetry as a kid, turning those words into rap verses, and eventually teaching himself beat-making and engineering in high school. The conversation digs deep into how one chance encounter with a local DJ completely changed his career, how touring with Jelly Roll and Yelawolf shaped him as an artist, and the wild, almost-derailed journey behind his breakout track "When the Drugs Don't Work"—a song that exploded on YouTube and changed his life overnight. Doobie gets vulnerable about his battles with addiction, finding purpose in recovery, and pushing his music head-first into a bold, rock-driven direction ("Early Bird Gets the Whiskey" is just the beginning). If you're an aspiring musician (or just love real stories from artists on the rise), you'll find plenty of inspiration—and unfiltered truth—right here. Stick around to hear advice you won't get anywhere else, and don't forget to subscribe to Bringin' It Backwards for more backstage stories from today's most compelling artists.

They're about to say goodnight after having an amazing night together in the hotel lobby. They're talking like they'll be on the same plane in the morning, so they'll see each other again in just four hours. The next morning, he's nowhere to be found. She really has to leave for the airport. She knows his last name but not his room number, so she leaves her number on a sticky note with the lady at the front desk.Cut to Dave — his alarm was set for PM. He rushes to the airport without stopping by the front desk. Womp womp. They both start searching online for each other, but it's just impossible. We learn how they met in the first place: a bad storm delayed both of their flights, so they went to a nearby hotel. She bumped into Dave on the way in, the doors instantly flew open, and they spent the whole night talking. They know Chicago is home for both of them.Through conversations with their loved ones in the present day, we get flashbacks of the night before. We find out she's in fashion, and he's in finance and wants the perfect Christmas to honor his late father. They're different, but it works. She remembers some of the things he told her he was going to do on Christmas, including visiting his childhood home. She's explaining it to her friend, and her friend's like, “Oh, I know that house.” When they pull up, it's a new construction still being built. Dead end.He remembers her talking about this coffee shop, so he goes there. Another dead end — but he leaves his number. She posts her story on a missed-connections app and gets a hit — a guy named David asks to meet at that same coffee shop. A woman shows up saying she works for a guy named Dave. Unfortunately, wrong Dave. Hate to see it.They have another close encounter at a Christmas concert — she went to the early show, he went to the late show.He remembers that she invited him to a Christmas Eve service. He just has to find that church. But first — the Christmas tree lot. They both happen to be there at the same time but don't bump into each other. We get to see the goodnight scene again, but this time we see that he stopped the elevator from closing completely and came back to kiss her real good. They also bump into each other again at another Christmas pageant — he even sees her through the crowd but assumes he's hallucinating. She makes one last-ditch effort by asking a radio DJ to read a message on-air asking him to meet her in front of a Christmas tree — but he never shows. He discovers that his sister bought one of Annie's handmade dresses at the market. He runs down there, but it's closed. Still, he decides to give the church a shot — and wouldn't you know it? They find each other. They both say they've been looking for each other! He immediately gets her number and asks her out on a proper date. They celebrate finding each other with a kiss as the snow falls around them. Way out in the Canadian wilderness — six hours from the nearest city, little to no cell reception, surrounded by mossy forests and granite — lies a world-class bouldering destination. Secluded, quiet, and breathtakingly beautiful, The Nooks has quickly become one of the most talked-about new climbing areas in North America. With incredible rock quality and a massive spread of problems from V0 to V13, it's the kind of place that feels unreal the first time you see it.The Nooks was first discovered in 2018 by Michigan climber Brendan Baars. Since then, he has spent nearly every climbable weekend out there — cleaning hundreds of boulders, building trails, collaborating with the local community, and documenting the entire process alongside his close friend DJ Viernes. Brendan's vision and commitment have transformed a patch of remote forest into a full-blown destination area visited by hundreds of climbers a year — something that almost never happens on this scale. Today, I'm sitting down with both Brendan and DJ to talk about how it all came to be.In our conversation, we dive into the history of The Nooks, why Brendan fell in love with bouldering, and what it actually takes to develop an area of this size. We break down his first ascent of a new V13 called Deadliness, and get a deeper understanding of how The Nooks has shaped both Brendan's and DJ's lives over the last seven years. We also talk at length about DJ's new feature-length film The Developer, which documents the area and the process behind building it from the ground up. It's beautifully shot, full of heart, and we use it as a reference point throughout this conversation. If you're interested in watching The Developer, DJ has created an exclusive 20% discount for the first 50 listeners to check out the film, making it just $4 to rent or $16 to purchase. Click the link in the show notes and use code “TCM20” at checkout. I don't expect those codes to last long.Did you know this podcast is also on YouTube? I spend an enormous amount of time and money making sure the video and audio quality are as professional as possible — and this time, DJ even set up a full studio on his end so we could capture his side of the conversation at the highest quality.
