I sat down with DJ Riley for this one, and it turned into one of those conversations that started in one place and ended up somewhere I didn't expect — which, if you've been listening long enough, you know is usually when the good stuff happens. We kicked things off talking about summer. Not the fun part. The part where you're scouting in ninety-degree heat, dragging cameras through timber that feels more like a sauna, and trying to convince yourself that recovery matters as much as effort. It does. I've learned that the hard way more than once — pushing too hard in July and paying for it come November. From there we got into something I think about every single season: the clean slate. Every year I try to walk into the woods like I don't know anything. Not because I don't — but because the deer I'm hunting this year aren't the same deer, and the pressure map isn't the same map. Holding onto last year's plan too tightly is how you miss what's actually happening in front of you. That led us into deer behavior — specifically curiosity. DJ and I talked at length about how a buck's curiosity is one of the most useful and most underrated tools in your kit. It's why the bump and dump works when you do it right. You're not trying to avoid every interaction with a deer. You're trying to control how that interaction ends, so the information you leave behind works for you instead of against you. Trail cameras play into this too — not just as a way to inventory deer, but as a way to read how curious, cautious, or comfortable a specific deer is being on a specific piece of ground. We closed the conversation on something less about tactics and more about who we are as hunters. Every mistake I've made in the woods has taught me something, but only if I actually slowed down enough to notice it. DJ said something that stuck with me — that the moments right before a shot, the ones where everything speeds up, are exactly when you need to slow down the most. That's not just a hunting lesson. That's a life lesson wearing camo. If you've ever wondered why the same techniques don't work the same way twice, or why some hunters seem to "read" deer better than others, this episode is for you. Our guest today is the DJ, music producer and drag artiste Jay Clarke AKA Jodie Harsh. In this conversation, Jay/Jodie talks to Gyles about their childhood in Canterbury, growing up as a young gay man in a close-knit family with a father who struggled to accept his son's sexuality. Gyles hears about escaping from the family home down the bathroom drainpipe and going up to London, secretly, to go underage clubbing at the Astoria. And thus Jay/Jodie burst onto London's gay scene - and the rest is history. Jodie Harsh was born, went on to become one of London's best known drag artistes, friends with stars such as Amy Winehouse and Kylie, and DJ for celebrity parties and Madonna. Perhaps not what you'd usually expect from Rosebud - this is a fascinating story of excess, club culture and the search for identity. It does contain mention of drink and drugs and some sexual references. Jodie's book, You Had To Be There is out now and available here. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A mid-July Vision Cast loaded with accessible-tech wins, live-on-Zoom family updates, and a second helping of the Summer Song and Dance Festival. Hosted by Salvis with Donald, George, Preston, Phil, and Veronica on the panel - plus pre-recorded drop-ins from JC (calling in from Puerto Rico) and Stacey James with a high-energy launch promo for her brand-new Crazy Stacey Radio Network. The centerpiece of the night is Donald's blind-coder AI breakthrough: he walks the crew through his journey using ChatGPT to write actual C# code for the Microsoft .NET 8 framework, building his own custom audio recorder and a fully working MP3 player he's calling "MP3 DJ." It's a live case study for the "AI is finally lowering the barrier for non-programmer blind creators" trend - landing the same week the industry is buzzing over the Suno AI source-code leak that pulls back the curtain on how much AI music is trained on scraped YouTube audio. The Summer Song and Dance Festival keeps rolling with pre-submitted covers from the crew: JC on "America the Beautiful" and The Rolling Stones' "I Can't Get No Satisfaction," Rita's fan-favorite "Como La Flor" and "La Bamba," Veronica delivering James Taylor's "Fire and Rain," and Preston closing it out with Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar."The instant-classic bit of the night is "Shower in the Dark." Veronica sets it up telling the story of a sighted friend who lost power and immediately worried about how she'd shower. Veronica's dry reply - "I don't have to see to take a shower" - sends the crew into fits, and Salvis coins the phrase "Shower in the Dark. That sounds like a great song or even story," calling it back later alongside the running pizza-on-a-black-Waymo joke.Phil is back on the panel after fighting a 4th of July flu and previews Sunday's grand final of the FIFA World Cup 2026 - Spain vs. Argentina - the biggest match of the summer as the tournament wraps up its US/Mexico/Canada hosting run. George brings the crackle in JC's absence, catching up with the crew about the wild-swinging summer weather, quality time with his girlfriend, a shout-out to his Portland friend Taylor, ongoing Mac and screen-reader compatibility challenges facing blind creators in 2026, and yes, a busted toenail on the way into the show. He also relays a family update on Phil's behalf: Phil's mother is home from the hospital after a bout of pneumonia and the crew keeps her in their prayers.Preston rounds it out with a new patio bistro set, a booked DJ gig at a local crab and karaoke bar, his transit-advocacy video for the CTAA hitting Facebook and Instagram, plus plans to catch the new Twisters movie. JC's pre-recorded tropical postcard from Puerto Rico teases coquí, salsa, and street food stories in a future episode, and Stacey's high-energy audio drop announces the launch of her brand-new independent Crazy Stacey Radio Network. Warm shout-outs to Phil's mom recovering, baby Noah still home safe post-NICU, and a nod to Katie's birthday callback from the previous week close the show.Keep technology alive, let your talent shine.Recorded 2026-07-15. Hosted by Salvis on the VisionCast Network.Final note:Bear is a tentative schedule for crazy Stacy‘s new radio edition now posted on the vision cast email list.

We talk about growing up between Paris and Miami, the early days of Peachfuzz, how Very Special became one of the most respected names in vintage watches, why community matters more than hype, and what it was like to go from collecting Stone Island to starring in one of the brand's campaigns. We also get into vintage watches, records, cars, fatherhood, and why the best careers rarely follow a straight line. * Sponsored by Bezel - the trusted marketplace for buying and selling your next luxury watch Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. 268: Sabbaticals—Especially for Non-Academics—as Regret Insurance | Harvard Lecturer DJ DiDonna

DJ DiDonna is a Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School, where he teaches entrepreneurship. In 2019, he founded The Sabbatical Project to define, explore, and research sabbaticals, and he has since advised organizations ranging from nonprofits to Fortune 50 companies on how to design sabbatical policies. His work on sabbaticals has been featured in outlets including The Atlantic, Time, Fast Company, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Fortune, and NPR. Before his work on sabbaticals, DJ co-founded EFL Global, a fintech social enterprise that helped enable more than $2 billion in capital for underbanked businesses and individuals across more than 20 countries. On his own sabbatical, DJ walked 900 miles on pilgrimage in Shikoku, Japan, and ran a poverty research lab at Notre Dame. DJ's is also the author of the book, Big Time Off: The Transformative Power of Sabbaticals and How to Take One In this episode we discuss the following: Sometimes we need to zoom out before we can know whether we should keep going. DJ had his  dream job, but over time, it stopped being fulfilling. So he took a sabbatical. Sabbaticals are different from vacations. On vacation, the work is often still waiting, and part of our brain is still running in the background. But on a true sabbatical, we step far enough away from normal life to see more clearly and focus on what is important, not just what is urgent. Sabbaticals also give us room to experiment with different versions of ourselves. When we're younger, we have socially acceptable ways to do that — school, internships, missions, study abroad, gap years. But as adults, those opportunities become less common, and we often stop experimenting altogether. We get on a track, stay in the lane, and assume the next thing should look a lot like the last thing. The sabbatical helps us break out. I love DJ's phrase that sabbaticals are “regret insurance.” Maybe we can't take a sabbatical tomorrow. But what are we doing five years from now? What would we regret never having done? And what would it look like to start planning now?

dattrax: Welcome my Fellow Brothers and Sisters to where house music resides. How is life treating you? Are you pursuing your dreams and goals??!! Hi-Five to you!!!____________________Thought that I'd share my super nerdy process for prepping tracks for a DJ gig or a new house mix. ____________________After I first buy and download a new batch of house music tracks from Traxsource or Bandcamp.I usuallv listen to them separatelv for a week or two. Try to get to know and understand them. As I listen to them over and over again, I imagine different combinations with my older house tracks that I have.Incorporating them into my collection.____________________If I'm making a new mix, then I'll start organizing them and adding a bunch of tracks that I'd want to mix with the new ones. If I'm prepping for an upcoming DJ gig, then I'll take the most danceable tracks and put them into one large folder. ____________________Usuallv takes me 4 to 8 hrs to choose and organize for each gig or new mIx. It's a therapeutic ritual and a lot of fun.It sounds boring, but it's not because I'm imagining the different directions that I can take the night or a mix. How do I judge how many total house tracks do I need for my gig? If my set is 3hrs, then 1 know that the avg speed for me is changing a track every three minutes.Other DJs like to play their tracks for 6-7mins each. Everyone has different preferences. So I know that I' probably end up playing 60 tracks give or take, within three hours. Then there's the issue of choice. Not too much or I won't have an overall feel or direction. That's why you see young laptop DJs bring a few thousand tracks and then are all over the place. Then I decide what I feel ike sharing. Track names will pop into my mind. So I go through the folder and move the tracks that I really love into a 'Priority' folder Then I go into a dozen rabbit holes. First, I collect evervthing into one folder. Then I make a priority folder and try to eliminate a lotThen I'll put them into folders according to energy levels.Mellow Vocal. Mellow Bit Harder Vocal Medium Mellow Vocal Medium Dubby Medium InstrumentalMedium level energy have the most ofIfI know thati won't be going harder, then nothing more to organize.Med Bit Harder HypeTwo more everv levels.Depending on the night or mix.Too little choice and I'm going to annoyed instead of having fun.So I give myself 5 to 8 choices per 60 tracks. So let's say the total is 350.You know how many tracks and how many energy levels you want to take them on.Choosing the very first track for your set. That's extremely important. Setting the mood and the expectation. Then just mix, sing and dance!!! Sharing your vision of house with your dancing friends.Interact with the dancers and try to surprise them with your combination choices. For house music. It's al about the combinations.____________________All the best to you and your loved ones. From your friendly neighbourhood Chinaman who LOVES house and LUVS you.May God Bless You and All Who You Love Abundantly
