Pues solo a dos: Unos, los que son incapaces de subirse a un Ferrari o un Lamborghini “de verdad”; dos, a los “nuevos ricos” que quieren lo último, pero no entienden… ¿estás de acuerdo? ¿No? Y salir mucho menos. Así que, si tienes años, no estás ágil o te sobran kilos y quieres llevar un Ferrari o un Lamborghini, estás marcas se han acordado de ti y han diseñado el Purosangue y el Urus. Ya tenemos un tipo de cliente: La persona que necesita o simplemente aprecia que acceder a su coche o descender de él sea fácil. Nada que objetar. Vamos a por el segundo cliente, Los nuevos ricos, que tienen mucho dinero pero que, en muchos casos, no saben nada de coches, van al concesionario de Ferrari o Lamborghini y piden “lo último”, lo más caro… y el vendedor va y les atiza un SUV con el argumento de que es lo más novedoso de la marca… Los dos motivos, la dificultad de acceso y su reciente riqueza, no son excluyentes y pueden coincidir… y, de hecho, os lo aseguro porque lo he visto, muchas veces lo hacen. Pero no me olvido de una tercera vía: Aquellos que quieren un coche de cierta marca, pero con cuatro puertas. Esto no es nuevo y ya pasó con Porsche. Muchos usuarios querían un Porsche por calidad e imagen, no la del coche, sino la que transmitía el conducir un Porsche. Pero luego llegó el Cayenne, un Porsche práctico y accesible -físicamente, no económicamente- que multiplicó las ventas. SUV viene, como otras muchas cosas, el inglés, “Sport Utility Vehicle”. O sea, un vehículo útil y deportivo… ¿deportivo? Sí, se refiere a los usuarios, personas que tienen una vida activa y que practican deportes y que un coche con ciertas cualidades de TT y mucho espacio, le viene bien. Así que un SUV es un coche preferentemente grande, alto y con mucha capacidad. Analicemos ahora el concepto “coche deportivo”. Todos entendemos que un coche deportivo es aquel que ofrece unas prestaciones por encima de la media, pero no solo me refiero a la aceleración y la frenada, sino a su agilidad y paso por curva. Visto esto… ¿SUV DEPORTIVO? Me parto. Dime de qué presumes… y te diré de qué careces. Ferrari ha llamado a su SUV “Purosangue” como para dar a entender que es un Ferrari de “Pura sangre”. Pues lo lamento por los chicos de Ferrari, pero de este coche pueden decirse muchas cosas, bastantes de ellas buenas… pero que es un Ferrari “Purasangre”, justo eso, no. Olvídate de la marca: Hablamos de un coche de 5 metros de largo, 1,6 m de alto que con gasolina y dos pasajeros se pone en 2,5 toneladas de peso… ¿esto es un Ferrari de “Purasangre”? Ya, ya sé que lleva un motoraco V12 de 6,5 litros y 725 CV…. Lo que le convierte en un coche grande y pesado, pero rápido. Para tener la altura y el peso que tiene va muy bien… pero no lo compares con un deportivo de la marca. Lo primero que lees al entrar en la página oficial de Lamborghini acerca del Urus es que se trata de “el primer vehículo utilitario superdeportivo en todo el mundo que fusiona el alma de un vehículo superdeportivo con la funcionalidad”. A ver, si los clientes de los Lamborghini van buscando “utilidad” … mal vamos. Un Lamborghini deportivo de verdad, por ejemplo, un Huracán, es lo menos práctico que puedas encontrar sobre cuatro ruedas… ¿te importa? ¡A mí no! Me importa que mide 1,16 m. de alto, pesa 1.400 kg y tiene un motor central de 639 CV. El Urus mide medio metro más de alto, ¡casi un 30 por ciento más que el Huracán!, pesa 2.300 kg, ¡casi un 80 por ciento más! Para una potencia similar… eso sí, es muy práctico… tiene 5 puertas. Conclusión. Nos hemos metido con Ferrari, Lamborghini y SUV caros, estúpidos y supuestamente deportivos hay más: El Audi RS Q8, el Aston Martin DBX 707, el Bentley Bentayga S, el Maserati Levante, el Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, por supuesto el Porsche Cayenne Turbo, para terminar, el Rolls Royce Cullinan. Todos con más de 500 CV, todos con más, algunos muchos más de 2.500 kg y todos desde casi 200.000 € para arriba… Eso sí, muy prácticos… ¿Os he convencido? Coche del día. ¡Me voy a ir por las ramas! El Lotus Super Seven porque está en las antípodas de un SUV, pequeño. Bajito, ligero, muy deportivo, absolutamente inútil para todo lo que no sea disfrutar al volante.

In this two-part episode, the team first discusses the new Aston Martin DBX with its claim of being the 'fastest luxury SUV' in the world and turn their attention to the amendments made to the UK's highway code. Finally, in the second part of the episode the team talks about American cars that have been sold in Europe and specifically the ones sold in the UK in Right Hand Drive, there have been some crackers and some flops. Miles starts to become interested in a particular flop in a used Cadillac before he learns it is in the highest road tax band.

Aston Martin is all about giving discriminating buyers what they want. These days that means SUVs. The all-new 2021 DBX, the British marque's first sport ute, goes from boardroom to twisty roads to trails with ease. The only problem will be, how will buyers appoint this bespoke machine with some 50 paint colors and dozens of leather hues?  Tom Voelk checks out a version optioned up to the $223,000 level and thinks it might be worth it for the twin turbocharged V8 engine note alone.

NEW LOTUS TYPE 132 SUV PREVIEWED IN OFFICIAL IMAGE - Lotus has given a first look at its maiden SUV, which is codenamed the Type 132 and due to be revealed in full next year. - As first reported by Autocar, the Type 132 has been in development since 2016 and is set to launch with two four-wheel-drive variants, offering between 600bhp and 750bhp. It will be able to accommodate batteries ranging from 92-120kWh in capacity and will offer 800V charging. - The Norfolk firm has released the first in a series of official videos that will build up to the launch of the new Aston Martin DBX rival, which will be a key element of its bold growth strategy under the ownership of Chinese car giant Geely. - The Type 132 will be built at a new £900 million manufacturing facility in Wuhan, China, and will be one of two Chinese-built EVs the firm will launch in the next five years. They are looking to secure an edge with next-generation batteries in a price war with Chinese battery companies. - The key is competition with Chinese battery companies. China's CATL, the world's largest battery company, is building a battery plant in Germany for commercial operation from 2022. CATL produces prismatic batteries and is expected to focus on expanding orders from Volkswagen. In March, Volkswagen announced that it would increase the proportion of prismatic batteries to 80 percent by 2030. - Samsung SDI and CATL will compete fiercely in the prismatic battery sector. Samsung SDI is betting on Gen. 5, a next-generation prismatic battery to be used for BMW electric vehicles. - Major European automakers such as Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen are placing battery orders worth tens of trillion won to secure batteries for their vehicles to be launched after 2024. Original Source : http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html BMW I7 REPORTEDLY GETTING THREE ELECTRIC MOTORS SHARED WITH I5 M - It was back in March last year when BMW originally announced there would be a fully electric version of the next-generation 7 Series. - CEO Oliver Zipse revealed during the Annual Accounts Press Conference 2020 the variant without a combustion engine would be the most potent. - Likely to be called i7, the 7 Series sans gasoline/diesel engine is said to have three electric motors in its highest specification. According to Auto Motor und Sport, two of them will be mounted at the back and the third one will be positioned on the front axle. The report mentions the e-motor driving the front wheels will have less power. - the same three-motor setup could be installed in a full-fat M version of the next 5 Series in EV form (i5) with a yet-to-be-confirmed total output of 750 horsepower. - It won't ride on a dedicated electric car platform as it will share its underpinnings and most of the design as well as shape with the combustion-engined models. For a bespoke EV from Bavaria, 2025 will be the year when the Neue Klasse architecture will debut. Thanks to an outstanding, two-part presentation and teardown conducted by Ingineerix, we can take an in-depth look at this new solution, hinted at in early 2021 by Elon Musk and shown only briefly at the delivery event. - previously Tesla was using in the Model S/Model X a 12 V, 33 Ah lead-acid AGM battery. It stores about 0.4 kWh of energy, but weight is quite substantial: 27 lbs (12 kg). According to Ingineerix, such batteries last in Teslas about 2-4 years, which is pretty low and sometimes causes unexpected problems if the car stops working. - The new,lithium-ion battery is much smaller and much lighter (only about 4 lbs / 1.8 kg). That's because it's much higher energy density, but also has a lower energy content. We assume that with a more reliable and "smart" solution, there is no need for 0.4 kWh. The battery has only a 0.1 kWh of energy (99 Wh to be precise) and a capacity of 6.9 Ah, according to the description. - the new battery consists of a BMS circuit board made by CATL and four prismatic NMC lithium-ion battery cells (6.9 Ah each), connected in series. During an interview on “Squawk on the Street,” CNBC's Jim Cramer asked about PepsiCo's plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. - “Transportation is about 10% of our overall gas emissions so it's important and we're working on different solutions. We replace our fleet regularly, every ten years more or less...and we're already starting to buy electric trucks actually from Tesla. I mean I don't want to promote anybody but that's the brand we're using so far and we're getting our first deliveries this Q4.” - The comments come almost four years after PepsiCo first announced it would purchase 100 Tesla Semi trucks. It was the largest known pre-order of the vehicle at the time. - On the company's Q2 earnings call in July, Tesla said it was pushing the Semi program to 2022 due to supply chain challenges and the limited availability of battery cells. GM were ready to pull the trigger, and Rivian was ready to take the money. WSJ reports that Rivian's leaders were skeptical of GM - in April of 2019, Ford announced it would be investing $500 million in Rivian. Since then, Ford's investments have reached $1.2 billion. With sedans and coupes becoming less popular on dealer lots, it's only a matter of time before every mainstream automaker branches into the new frontier of crossovers. As demand is only rising for high-horsepower, performance-oriented crossovers, it makes sense to see companies like Lamborghini and Porsche throwing their hats in the ring and giving the fans what they want. Well, Aston Martin decided it needed a slice of that pie, too, and launched the aptly named Aston Martin DBX. This 4.0-liter powered Aston Martin might not be as radical as its Vantage stablemate, but it still keeps the beloved Aston Martin aesthetic intact despite its crossover shape. " reports Autocar.com: "Revealed ahead of its official full debut later this month, the EV6 will spearhead a wave of new-era electric cars from Kia. Each will be badged EV followed by a number corresponding to its size. So the EV6 crossover is a mid-sized car, which leaves room below for compact SUVs, hatchbacks and saloons, and for larger SUVs at the top of the range. EV6 shares its E-GMP platform with the recently revealed Hyundai Ioniq 5. This means it will have 800V hardware for charging speeds of up to 220kW and it should charge from 10% to 80% capacity in 18 minutes. "   "Entry-level versions are likely to have a single electric motor delivering power to the rear wheels and fed by a 58kWh battery pack, with more powerful models getting dual motors and a larger 72.6kWh battery." says WhatCar: " In its most powerful form, the EV6 will be able to sprint to 60mph in 3.5 seconds. Texas appears to be the first step in that expansion. We got an early opportunity to test drive the new Aston Martin DBX! We didn't get to race a RSQ8 up a mountain like Top Gear, but we definitely got to have some fun! Our friends at Park Place Aston Martin gave us a call and said “Hey, want to drive an SUV you can't afford?” We of course said yes and we think you'll get a kick out of our review.
