Over the past decade or so, white supremacist groups with names like the Patriot Front and the Atomwaffen Division have been quietly recruiting new members online, spreading propaganda and conducting paramilitary training exercises across North America. One of these groups is called The Base and, in the summer of 2019, Scott Payne wanted to become a member. But Scott wasn't a neo nazi or a rightwing extremist. He was an undercover FBI agent. Over the course of 28 years in law enforcement Scott has infiltrated biker gangs, posed as a hitman, and ingratiated himself with drug dealers. Now he's taking us inside that world, with a memoir called Codename: Pale Horse, and the second season of the CBC podcast White Hot Hate, both of which he worked on with journalist Michelle Shephard.Feedback for us? EXPLORING SECRET SOCIETIES A secret society is an organization that conceals its activities, events, inner workings, or membership, and may or may not attempt to conceal its existence.  Here's a more detailed look at secret societies: General Characteristics: Concealment: The core feature is the deliberate attempt to keep certain aspects of the organization hidden. Varying Degrees of Secrecy: Some societies maintain complete secrecy about their existence, while others may be known but keep their activities or membership lists hidden.  Examples: Secret societies can range from collegiate groups like Skull and Bones at Yale to magical organizations or even groups with political or social agendas.  Collegiate Secret Societies: Some secret societies have kept their membership secret until graduation; others never reveal membership until death.  Membership: On campuses that have both secret societies and traditional fraternities and sororities, one can be a member of both kinds of organizations. That is, membership is not mutually exclusive. Usually, being a member of more than one traditional fraternity or sorority is not considered appropriate because that member would have divided loyalties. On this edition of Parallax Views, Rey and Boris of the antifascist The Empire Never Ended podcast join the show to discuss the strange story of David Myatt and his neo-Nazi Satanist sect The Order of Nine Angles. For many years the O9A remained relatively obscure, only really known to people on the fringes of the occult/esoteric community. But it has gained notoriety more recently, along with the Atomwaffen Division, thanks to growing concerns about neo-fascist terrorism in the U.S. and Europe. According to Rey and Boris, the O9A believe in bringing about a new type of human being, an ubermensch, by becoming ruthless predators engaged in socially deviant acts including human sacrifice, or in the O9A's terminology the "Culling" of "opfers". The story of this strange sect gets much stranger though as the figure of Joshua Caleb Sutter, co-founder of the O9A-affliated Tempel of Blood, is discussed. Turns out Sutter, who has longstanding involvement in the American white supremacist movement and has served prison time, has acted as an FBI informant. Even stranger, perhaps, is the story of controversial former Montenegrin diplomat Mirna Nikčević and a man by the name Nikola Poleksić, who has become involved in the Montenegrin Orthodox Church as a deacon. This particular thread in the O9A saga is noteworthy because of O9A's belief about "insight roles" within their initiatory process. These insight roles require initiates to go undercover with groups whom may go against their own personal beliefs as part of one's personal "spiritual" growth, developing skills in manipulation against the "Magian" order (in other words, the Western liberal society that O9A opposes), and, perhaps most importantly, infiltration. With that in mind, the stories of Nikčević and Poleksić appear to be examples of O9A infiltration of Church and State. In addition to discussing all of this we delve into David Myatt's history including his involvement with Combat 18. In regards to the history of Myatt and the early O9A we also make mention of the London Nail Bombings. We discuss the myth and reality of Myatt and the O9A as well a sect known as the Astral Bone Gnawers Lodge, the deep state, the history of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church, why talking about something as seemingly kooky as the O9A matters, O9A's Satanism as cover for its neo-Nazi fascism, and much, much more!

For us, the story of the Base all began in the spring of 2018 when we spotted the Twitter profile picture of a shadowy neo-Nazi who went by the alias ‘Norman Spear.' The photo was eye catching: He looked severe, with a strong brow and a bushy beard, and tweeted about guerilla warfare and the tactics of insurgency. At the time, Spear also had the attention of some serious operators in the domestic terror space: On Twitter he was followed by and following an assortment of well known, online, far-right militants. We saw members of Atomwaffen Division—a Nazi terror group that was already connected to murders and a chilling plot to bomb a nuclear power plant—and right-wing trolls alike, some of which were gaining the attentions of federal authorities that worried about another Oklahoma City bombing, all linked to Spear.Then Spear started tweeting about what was one of the most ambitious plots coming out of the American far-right movement to date: funneling all the disparate worlds of extremists, activists, and trolls festering all over social media after the election of President Trump in 2016, into one trained and networked, IRL coalition fighting for a “race war”. What he started as a WordPress site and an entrance application, Spear grew into ‘the Base;' a bonafide terror group, with over 50 members, operating both in the real world at paramilitary camps, and online using encrypted apps like Wire and Riot. Eventually, by January 2020, the Base would make chilling news: An assassination plot, plans to shoot up a political rally, and a national campaign to vandalize synagogues. In the end, the FBI deployed an undercover into the Base and undertook a nationwide crackdown on the group raiding apartments and homes in Delaware, Marylan, Georgia, Wisconsin and New Jersey, nabbing 9 members. But Spear, who was revealed to be a 47 year-old American and ex-Pentagon contractor (who worked with the special forces) named Rinaldo Nazzaro, never went to jail. Instead, he continues to allegedly live in Russia, where he is suspected of being a Kremlin asset.In a two-part series for CYBER—using secret recordings, sources coming from inside the group, and never before heard materials—we'll dive deep into the birth and demise of what became one of the most prominent and dangerous American far-right organizations in the modern era. Australia's security agencies are warning that far right extremism is on the rise and that the threat is real. Groups such as the Atomwaffen Division are spreading across the globe using technology as a networking tool and Mollie Saltskog, a senior intelligence analyst with the Soufan Center, tells Tom Ravlic that the groups pose a threat that must be taken seriously. Mollie also highlights the fact that people need to be aware of the threats posed by right wing extremists and to have strategies in place to deal with it. WHICH COMES FIRST THE RUMBLES OR THE MAGMA ? One small US-based associate body - which has its own publishing house - was banned from mainstream social media last year. Its members had posed at the sites of various notorious rapes and murders, celebrating the perpetrators in the process. Some followers also express enthusiasm for Islamist jihadist violence. All this real-world activity is supposed to have a supernatural effect, opening up a gateway into the world for evil energies. How influential is it? The ONA has acted as an influence on several neo-Nazi extremist groups, including the US-based Atomwaffen Division - linked to five murders - and the Sonnenkrieg Division, which was banned as a terrorist organisation in the UK earlier this year. Such groups reject attempts at gaining popular support for the extreme right - whether through demonstrations or campaigns - and are instead committed to an ideology of socalled accelerationism, which predicts societal collapse and racial warfare, seeking to speed the process up through acts of violence. The ideology is promoted in several online spaces and that is where it has blended with the ideas promoted by ONA, giving the latter an increased influence on the furthest edges of the extreme right. ▪ The Durham teen neo-Nazi who became 'living dead' Last year a 16-year-old British boy became the youngest person convicted of planning a terror attack in the UK. Atomwaffen Division, Identity Europa, and the Base Some Of The Most Recent Most Violent Hate Groups Of Late

Nick Lowles, CEO of HOPE not hate, sat down to discuss the neo-Nazi Satanist group the Order of the Nine Angles, and their promotion of terror in the digital space. The O9A have been linked to violent far-right groups such as Combat 18, the National Socialist Movement, National Action, Sonnenkrieg Division, Atomwaffen Division, and many more. The leading light of the O9A, David Myatt, a man known by acquaintances as 'The Cat Strangler' because of his proclivity for animal torture, has consistently promoted human sacrifice and abuse in his writings. We are seeing the most extreme form of far-right ideology grow and spread in online spaces, where the fog of anonymity is being used to protect those who wish to recruit vulnerable young people to their poisonous ideology.After countless instances of O9A propaganda appearing unnoticed as a factor in the radicalisation of terrorists, HOPE not hate are now calling for the government to act and for O9A to be proscribed.

A book Mason wrote has become a bible of sorts for terroristic neo-Nazi groups like Atomwaffen Division, and it has helped spawn a new wave of so-called accelerationists—people who believe societal collapse is the quickest way to create an all-white ethnostate. Many of those adherents flocked to Telegram, the encrypted messaging app, in recent months after getting booted from other social media platforms. And they’ve created their own enclave there, which they refer to as “Terrorgram.” It was there, in the Terrorgram community, that the threats against Harper took shape. On Sept. 11, an anonymous post appeared on one of the Terrorgram channels, telling people to send Harper “fan mail” at his address in Michigan. The following day, the same channel published a video from someone who drove by the address and filmed the house. “Howdy, antifascist activist Daniel Harper,” the text of the post read. “Nice place you've got there.” The posts set off a wave of chatter on Telegram. In the midst of it was a user who went by the handle “Anti-Kosmik 2182,” who chimed in with his thoughts about what to do about Harper. “Ditch the car somewhere a few blocks away, take back alleys, trails in the woods, etc., and then come up on the house wearing a mask,” he wrote. “I’m not saying do anything illegal, but I am saying it would be a real shame if all he has went up in literal flames.” In court records, the FBI later said that “Anti-Kosmik 2182” was Smith, an infantry soldier stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. The bureau also revealed that it had an undercover agent on Telegram who was interacting with Smith around the same time." Support NoDAPL Prisoners This week, we're excited to share the voices of Jess and Olive, who both did legal support, and do prisoner solidarity with the folks facing Federal prison time from the struggle at Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Jess did legal work supporting the struggle in Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline in 2016 and into 2018 and continues to support political prisoners in the case. Olive lived in camp, engaging in nonviolent direct action and working security during the winter (late november-february), survivor of water crises in West Virginia and as a Sundancer. Olive stayed through the raid on Oceti near the end of February 2017 and became a paralegal afterward and doing legal support for their loved one, Rattler. You can find the challenge and ways to plug in at cwc.im/survival Episode Notes from Olive   As an aside, I want to share a little more information from Olive about Akicita: “...Traditionally, Akicita would go to battle as a last resort and were always the last to leave, but they acted as protectors and to hold people accountable and dispense consequences when necessry, one example being on Buffalo hunts; people were not allowed to take more than they needed or to hunt by themselves because it hurt not only other tribal members but the Buffalo population. Akicita made sure the hunts happened with integrity. They also kept Nacas, elders, and the people informed. They were mediators of conflict. They were recognized for acts of bravery and selflessness. “ Also, Olive had these notes to share about the Federal Defendants who've been sentenced: “Little Feather's mother is part of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California, so I forgot to mention he is also Morongo in addition to also Lakota and Chumash. Rattler is a descendant of the war chief Red Cloud, who also signed the Ft. Laramie Treaty of 1868, one of the treaties we were defending with our occupation through camp. Rattler's Lakota name is Mato Tanka (Big Bear). Angry Bird's Lakota name is Sunka Wakan Sica (Bad Horse). Not everyone with federal charges are Akicita or Ikce Wicasa. Rattler, Little Feather, and Angry Bird are Akicita and Ikce Wicasa camp security. RedFawn and Dion had other responsibilities and ties to the camps. “ Olive also had this to add about their own participation at Standing Rock: “If it's relevant, I didn't mention another responsiblity I had while being in camp. I formed with two other femme people Two Spirit and Women's security branches so gender queer folks like myself and women/femme people could deal with our own safety/decolonizing issues within camp. This is how I began to work with Akicita security directly. The role of Akicita, the several councils that made up camp for collective decision making, and the ceremonies we participated in were all ways we were actively decolonizing our daily lives and DEFYING state intervention in disputes among our community (concepts of transformative justice try to exert the same concept of "don't call cops, be accountable" but don't necessarily have the structures to do it like traditional indigenous societies have) “ Another addition to the audio that I'd like to include is a short write-up that you can find in our show notes about the concept and Lakota and Standing Rock prophecies of the “Black Snake” which has been applied to the Dakota Access Pipeline “I didn't feel we had the time, but I wanted to at least tell you about some Lakota prophecies related to the "black snake" and historical context of where camp was located. All of this information I have is from Standing Rock elders and Lakota that know their lands well, including Tim Mentz, a Lakota archaeologist from Standing Rock, as well as my own experience from living in camp. Grandfathers, some in the early 1800s, had visions of a "black ribbon on top of the Earth to separate all people...the people wouldn't gather anymore...when the black ribbon goes underneath the Earth there will be no more Lakota." This "ribbon" is seen as pavement and fossil fuels. Prairie Nights Casino was built on top of a known site where ceremonial fasts were held. Cannonball River has buttes, all with names known to the Lakota one being Tipi Butte near the Backwater Bridge. Near Backwater Bridge (where cops kept up barricades after North Camp raid), there are remnants of old Sundance ceremony arbors. October 22nd arrests happened partly because we were protesting the 27 burials that were uprooted for DAPL's access roads that were across from HW 1806. Cannonball Ranch, which was eventually bought by DAPL, had Bear effigies, burials in the four cardinal directions, with at least 82 other sacred sites and ancestral sites of the Lakota. Southwest of where Oceti camp is Horshoe Bend, along the Standing Rock border is Treaty ground where men gathered to discuss the 1851 Treaty (North Camp was actually 1851 Treaty Camp). Spotted Tail (Sicangu band) and Big Head adopted one another around the year 1851 in the same location of Oceti camp. “ . ... . .. Playlist

Pictures from the event captured Atomwaffen Division members in skull masks, making Nazi salutes. The website reported that the training included lessons in firearms and hand-to-hand combat, preparation for the group’s “ultimate aim of overthrowing the U.S. government through the use of terrorism and guerrilla warfare.” Breitbart’s Alex Marlow talks about threats that CNN has to faced. Jeanne Pepper Bernstein is the mother Blaze Bernstein. On January 10, 2018, 19-year-old University of Pennsylvania sophomore Blaze Bernstein was found dead in a park in Orange County, California, eight days after having been reported missing. He was visiting his family in Lake Forest, California, when he was killed. Two days later, one of Blaze's former high school classmates and a member of neo-Nazi terrorist group Atomwaffen Division was arrested and charged with murdering him. Because Blaze was both openly gay and Jewish, authorities declared that he was a victim of a hate crime.
