Fr. Mike summarizes the final moments of the book of Nehemiah, when Nehemiah returns to find the people of Israel being unfaithful to God's commandments and marrying foreign wives. Fr. Mike connects this to our lives, as we too often confuse God's unending love for us to mean that he always wants what we want.Today's readings are Nehemiah 13, Malachi 1-4, and Proverbs 21: 25-28. Timothy Keller Sermons Podcast by Gospel in Life

There's a sickness in us. We are cruel to each other in ways we cannot seem to heal. We have an inveterate kind of unhappiness in our hearts we can't seem to put out.  For the last hundred years, the reigning Western understanding of why we are so cruel and unhappy has been that it comes from outside of us, that it comes from conditions. But in the last few decades, the intelligentsia have increasingly admitted there's something deeper than that. The Bible says the problem with human beings is not environmental—that there is a poison in us that's called sin. And we need to understand the symptoms of that poisoning, the symptoms of sin. Let's look today at 1) the symptom of envy, 2) the root cause, and 3) the antidote. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 26, 1995. Series: The Seven Deadly Sins. Scripture: Numbers 11:4-6. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church. We begin exploring the third commandment and learn about rest and worship concerning the Lord's Day. The Catechism points out that God models what he wants for us as he also rested on the seventh day. Fr. Mike explains the importance of prioritizing rest for ourselves because we are free and no longer enslaved people. The Catechism describes how we are to keep the Lord's Day holy with “outward, visible, public, and regular worship ‘as a sign of his universal beneficence to all.'” Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2168-2176. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. For the first time ever, the U.K. has appointed a woman as the Archbishop of Canterbury to lead the global Anglican Communion. Kaitlyn, Skye, and Mike Erre discuss the implications of appointment and how Anglicans use “flying bishops” to maintain unity over divisive theological issues. Are there lessons here for other divided Christian communities? The latest “State of Theology” report shows a shocking number of evangelicals hold contradictory beliefs. Why are evangelical churches so bad at teaching the Bible and theology? Kaitlyn talks with A.J. Swoboda and Nijay Gupta, co-authors of “Slow Theology,” about how our cultural addiction to speed and quick answers actually fuels spiritual disillusionment and deconstruction. It's Witness Wednesday! In today's episode, Jimmy fills in for host Todd Friel as we listen to several interactions that Ray Comfort of Living Waters had with college students at Cal State Fullerton. Segment 1 • Alex admits he's agnostic, has used God's name in vain, and is living in sexual sin. • Ray walks him through the Ten Commandments to show his guilt before God. • Ray also speaks with student Val who claims to be a bisexual and questions the Bible's stance on homosexuality. Segment 2 • Saul challenges God's justice, asking why an all-powerful God would allow suffering. • Ray exposes Saul's own sin using the law, then warns of God's wrath and points to Jesus as the only escape. • Saul remains defiant, claiming fear of death doesn't prove God—but admits he is afraid to die. Segment 3 • A group of students challenge Ray on murder, immigration, LGBTQ issues, and abortion. • Ray stands firm: all sin must be judged, but forgiveness is freely offered through repentance and faith in Christ. • Ray consistently redirects to the gospel, urging students to consider their eternal state and the gift of salvation. Segment 4 • Ray talks with student Jake who says he “grew up Catholic”. • Another student, Sophia, challenges Ray on the propriety of the death penalty. • Ray turns Sophia's challenges back to the law and the gospel. ___ Thanks for listening! In this Bible Story, we explore the story of the Prodigal Son. Jesus uses his story to demonstrate the steadfast forgiveness of God. No matter how far gone someone may seem, the Lord is actively waiting to restore and forgive. This story is inspired by Luke 15:1-32 & Matthew 18:12-14. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is Luke 15:32 from the King James Version.Episode 202: As Jesus was reclining enjoying a meal with His friends, the Pharisees mocked Him for eating with known sinners. When Jesus heard this, He got up and told them a story about a man and his two sons. In this story, the younger son went to his father and demanded his inheritance. The young man used up all his wealth on wild living. After coming to the end of himself, he realized he had sinned against his father. He also realized that his father's hired servants were better off than he was. So he went back home with the intention for asking his dad's forgiveness and asking to be taken on as a servant. But when he got close enough to home to be seen, his father ran to him, embraced him, and made a celebration for his safe return. In telling us this, Jesus gives us a glimpse of God's great love for His prodigal children.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. If you are interested in the Daily Bible Devotional, you can find it at the links below:Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)YouTube Video Introducing the ContentFeel free to reach out with any questions: emersonk78@me.comII Timothy 2Paul urges Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus and to pass on the truth to faithful individuals who will continue teaching others. He uses illustrations of a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer to highlight discipline, endurance, and hard work in ministry. Just as he does, Paul reminds Timothy to endure hardship for the gospel's sake. He emphasizes the importance of avoiding quarrels and ungodly talk, which only lead to more harm. Instead, he should study and learn the word of God. Timothy is instructed to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, and to correct opponents with gentleness, in hopes that God may lead them to repentance. The chapter focuses on endurance, faithful teaching, and a life that reflects the saving mission of Jesus Christ.  The Christian life is filled with the grace of God; therefore, it must be marked by endurance, discipline, and devotion. We are called to share the truth with care, investing in others who will remain faithful to the message of Christ and share the word themselves. Like soldiers, athletes, and farmers, we must be willing to work diligently and stay focused on what truly matters. We must avoid arguments that distract from Christ and His eternal glory, and instead pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. God calls us to correct others, not with pride, but with gentleness, trusting Him to bring about change. Let us honor God by being examples and sharers of the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.  Heavenly Father, You have called us to a life that is steady, pure, and useful in Your hands. We call upon You to shape our hearts so we do not chase distractions or arguments but remain focused on truth. Build in us the quiet strength of a soldier, the discipline of an athlete, and the patience of a farmer. Let us not grow weary in teaching or in waiting. Help us to carry Your name with humility and to treat others with gentleness. Cleanse us from what is dishonorable and make us ready for every good work You have prepared. Thought Questions: What does it mean to “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus”? How does it relate to the imagery of a soldier, athlete, and farmer? Why do Christians often argue in ways that only divide us? Why should we be more focused on living like Jesus and refusing to deny His glory? Why is it vital to live a righteous life and be patient with people, even those who wrong you? Is it your mission to help God reach those people?

What does it mean to bear the Christian name? The Catechism reminds us that in Baptism, we are given our Christian name, which is sacred. Our name represents the dignity of each of us and depicts how God loves us each uniquely. Fr. Mike explains that each time we make the Sign of the Cross, we call upon the Lord to bear witness to what we are about to do. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2156-2167. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. This week, I'm sitting down with Justin Giboney to have an honest conversation about what it means to choose grace in a world that thrives on outrage. Together, we unpack how believers can respond to offense with Christ-like wisdom, especially when tension, politics, and faith collide in public spaces. We talk about what it looks like to pause before reacting, how to discern truth in a noisy culture, and why guarding your witness matters more than winning an argument. Justin shares biblical insight on engaging the culture without losing compassion, and how the posture of our hearts reveals what we truly believe about Jesus. If you've wondered how to respond when the world feels divided, or what faithfulness looks like in a polarized time such as now, this conversation will meet you right where you are.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this Bible Story, we learn about the true meaning of kindness from the story of the good Samaritan. Jesus uses this story to teach that goodness does not always come from the perfect people, rather those that we may least expect. This story is inspired by Luke 10:25-37. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is Luke 10:37 from the King James Version.Episode 201: On another day of walking and teaching a lawyer came up to Jesus asking about eternal life. Wanting to justify himself he responded to Jesus' answer by asking Him who counts as a neighbor. To illustrate His point, Jesus told the lawyer a story about an Israelite man who was robbed, beaten, and left for dead. Nobody who should have helped this man, actually helped him. Instead, a Samaritan, hated by the Jews, picked him up, bandaged his wounds, and brought him to an inn to be taken care of. The next question Jesus asks challenges both the lawyer and us to think about what it means to be a neighbor.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. Paul encourages Timothy to rekindle the spiritual gift God gave him and reminds him that the Spirit of God does not make believers timid but gives them power, love, and self-discipline. He urges Timothy not to be ashamed of the gospel or of Paul's suffering but to join in enduring hardship for the sake of Christ. Paul reminds him that God saved them by grace and called them to a holy life and to guard the standard of truth God has revealed. Paul expresses full confidence in Christ despite imprisonment, urging Timothy to guard the truth through the Holy Spirit who lives in them. This emotional letter from Paul to Timothy reminds us that our faith must be active and cultivated with intentional care. We have been entrusted with a sacred message, one that has the power to transform lives. We are not called to live in fear or hesitation, but in the strength, love, and discipline that God provides in His holy word. Our calling is not earned, but given by grace, and it must be exclaimed as we share the triumphant victory of Jesus Christ. We must be willing to endure hardship for the gospel's sake, standing firm in truth regardless of opposition. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to remain faithful and to protect what God has placed within us, the treasure and pattern of truth.  Loving God, we come before You with gratitude for the faith You are developing within us. Teach us how to strengthen what is weak and stir anew the gifts You have entrusted to our care. Help us to walk not in fear, but in the power, love, and self-discipline that come from Your Spirit. Teach us to stand unashamed of the gospel and to endure hardship with grace. May we guard the truth faithfully, not in our strength but through the Holy Spirit who lives within us. May our lives reflect the calling and purpose You have set before us. Thought Questions: Paul had a special relationship with Timothy that uplifted him. Who, in your life, is your spiritual family and a great encouragement to you? What are some gifts God has given you for His service that could use some refreshing? How might it be time to become unashamed and bold? How has the gospel of the Lord Jesus changed your life? Is the gospel the treasure and only pattern for your life? How do you show that?

Welcome back to Build Your Bible Habit, where you can listen to a daily chapter of Proverbs in about five minutes. The seventh chapter of Proverbs is a hard one. If you've developed the habit of reading or listening to a daily Proverb, you already know what's coming: the chapter about "the strange woman." The word "strange" in this context refers to a prostitute or a harlot. It also carries the meaning "to commit adultery." The "strange woman" is immoral and enticing. This chapter should be read slowly, and yet it may be painful reading. Have you ever wondered how the "strange woman" ended up on that path of humiliation and destruction? And what about the man who accepted the invitation? They were both selfish. Taking advantage of people to satisfy the flesh never ends well. Here's how chapter seven closes: "For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death." (Proverbs 7:26-27) That's not a happy ending, it's a dark warning. VISIT THE SHOP AT KEEP THE HEART FOR BOOKS, BIBLE STUDIES & MORE!
