We speak with Kerry O'Grady, Director for Teaching Excellence at the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence at Columbia Business School. Dr. O'Grady discusses some of the “normalized” practices that often leave adjunct instructors with a lack of resources and support for their teaching. She then provides research-based recommendations that can help adjunct faculty feel more valued and empowered, as noted in her letter to the editor in The Chronicle of Higher Education, in response to an article titled, “Adjunct Professors Face a ‘Constant Struggle to Not Give Up,' Report Says,” (October 26, 2023). Resources“Adjunct Professors Face a ‘Constant Struggle to Not Give Up,' Report Says” (October 26, 2023, The Chronicle of Higher Education) by Amita Chatterjee“How to Help Adjuncts Not Want to Give Up” (November 29, 2023, The Chronicle of Higher Education) by Kerry O'Grady

Join Critical Resistance and abolitionists for a critical discussion on the ongoing war on Palestine. Prison industrial complex (PIC) abolitionists have always understood the work to dismantle the PIC to be connected to global movements against war, militarism, and colonialism. In the past few weeks, we've seen mass mobilization in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they face one of the deadliest assaults by the Israeli military in its history. On Wednesday, Nov 1, join us for a critical discussion on the ongoing war on Palestine. Dr. Angela Y Davis, Lara Kiswani (Executive Director of the Arab Resource and Organizing Center), Stefanie Fox (Executive Director of Jewish Voice for Peace), and Nadine Naber (INCITE! National) will join us in a discussion moderated by Mohamed Shehk (Campaigns Director of Critical Resistance) to help us understand the situation on the ground in Palestine, how our organizations and people everywhere can mount effective resistance to the genocidal war against Palestinians, and how we can use abolitionist strategies such as Dismantle-Change-Build, Divest/Invest & “Defund,” and “shrink and starve” to do so. Organized by Critical Resistance. This event is also a fundraiser for Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA), who are providing much needed aid to the people of Gaza. All funds will go to MECA after accessibility costs for this event. --------------------------------------------------------------- Speakers: Angela Y. Lara Kiswani is the Executive Director of Arab Resource & Organizing Center (AROC), serving poor and working class Arabs and Muslims across the San Francisco Bay Area, and organizing to overturn racism, forced migration, and militarism. Matthew Adams here, bringing you into the depths of our spiritual journey. We all have an innate desire to hear God's voice, but let's be real — sometimes we're wary. What if we don't like what He says? What if His plan feels more like a burden than a blessing? Let's step into the light of Psalm 73:24 and address these uncertainties.Scripture: "You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny." PSALM 73:24A tumultuous battle wages within us — a battle between our desire to surrender and our reservations about God's will. This conflict is often underpinned by our fears and misconceptions. Will God always be challenging? Is there never a moment of sweetness in His plans? The Power Of God's Whisper is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Point 1: Debunking the Myth of Constant Struggle. Our mind sometimes deceives us into thinking that God's voice brings only challenges. While it's true that the journey may have its ups and downs, God's ultimate goal is to lead us to a destiny brimming with glory. Sometimes, the journey is as sweet as the destination.Point 2: God's "Now" versus our "Then". We tend to postpone our glory to the afterlife, often neglecting the blessings and guidance God offers us here and now. His Kingdom isn't just a future promise; it's a present reality. Every moment spent in communion with Him brings glimpses of this glorious destiny.Point 3: The Dual Nature of God's Voice. God's voice, simultaneously gentle and authoritative, brings comfort as well as conviction. It's essential to realize that His guidance aims not only for our spiritual growth but also for our joy and fulfillment in Him.Conclusion: God's voice isn't a harbinger of ceaseless trials. It's the promise of destiny woven with moments of challenge, yes, but also with threads of glory, joy, and profound love. We need to embrace His voice fully, trusting in His everlasting goodness.Call to Action: This week, I challenge you to lean into God's voice. Allow Him to guide you, even when the path seems unfamiliar. Look for glimpses of glory in your everyday journey, knowing that each step is a purposeful move toward your divine destiny.Prayer: Lord, dispel our doubts and help us fully trust in the promise of Your voice. We want to hear You clearly, without reservations. Fill us with the assurance that You are leading us toward a destiny filled with Your glory. We surrender our fears, opening our hearts to the symphony of Your guidance. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.Thank you for being a part of "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast." Remember, God's voice is not just about direction; it's about destiny. And that destiny is drenched in glory. Continue seeking, continue listening. Until next time, be blessed, and be a blessing!Thank you for reading The Power Of God's Whisper. This post is public so feel free to share it. Our guest is writer, scholar, and activist Angela Davis. For more than 5 decades, Davis has been fighting for Black liberation, equal rights for women, queer and transgender people. Davis first received national attention in 1969, after being removed from her teaching position at UCLA for her social activism and membership to the Communist Party. In 1970, she was placed on the FBI's “Ten Most Wanted List” on false charges, which culminated in one of the most famous trials in recent U.S. history. A massive international “Free Angela Davis” campaign was organized, leading to her acquittal in 1972. Davis is a founding member of Critical Resistance, a national organization dedicated to dismantling the prison-industrial complex, and the author of books including Freedom is a Constant Struggle and Women, Race & Class. On May 24, 2022, Angela Davis came to the Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco to talk to choreographer and activist Alonzo King.
