Do you change your identity based on the people you are around or does your fist stay up no matter who you are around or what environment you are in? – You are making your Black Legacy every day and thinking in terms of every choice we make matters – All shades and intersectionalities of black are breathing in the rear view of our ancestors. In this episode I discuss some of the issues we are facing with Original aka Black Legacy Building. In unpacking the idea of Legacy Building I use the unfortunate demise of Takeoff as an example of how we ARE NOT Valuing Original Legacy Building, but instead Destroying it. The entire state of Our Community is predicated on how we get through this season of "Death Culture", a culture we cannot afford to keep investing in. We can't keep taking each other's lives over trivial issues and petty disagreements. We have to start giving a damn about Our Lineages and Legacies before it's too late. Takeoff unfortunately DID NOT get to leave behind a Lineage or Legacy as he had no children he left behind. Thus, his Lineage and Legacy were Destroyed and Cut short. We have to ask ourselves are these things actually worth taking or losing life? More often than not, these things aren't worth the destruction they bring. We have to bring The Family back in control of one another. We ALL have work to do, but we have to start somewhere. I sat down with Fujimaru a part of husky royalty largely revered for being unapologetically black on and off his streams. This "princess of huskies" digs deep into his soul to discuss topics that dig at all of us. The furries that made him feel unwelcome, the atrocities of war, and of course his deep love for gundams and anime. There's a lot of ground to cover when it comes to what black people have contributed to the history of the US, and how they're treated today. From the effects of the insurrection to the subtle dog whistles that led to it, Fujimaru adds the insight to describe what made that day so devastating to him. Thank you for listening! REAL SPORTS TALK, M-F 6:00PM
On this episode of Jack Dappa Blues, I speak with Corey A Washington, author of the book "Jimi Hendrix Black Legacy (A Dream Deferred). Corey shares with us the importance of the book, as well as the importance and relevance Jimi has and is in the Black community, the history of black music & activism, along with the contributions to the Blues People! Jimi Hendrix - Black Legacy (A Dream Deferred) is the culmination of a two-decade journey of author Corey Washington's exploration of Jimi Hendrix's complex and misunderstood relationship and impact, on the Black Community. Jimi's life has been featured in numerous biographies over the years, but very little has been properly documented when it comes to his influence on people of color. Hendrix was often seen by many to have transcended race, which is a slap in the face to his deep cultural roots, concerning not only his Black musical traditions but simply growing up as a Black person in the '40s-'60s https://jimibl.com/index.html See the promo trailer here: JIMI HENDRIX - BLACK LEGACY (A Dream Deferred). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jackdappabluespodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jackdappabluespodcast/support

We as African Americans need to see the continued attack against blacks. Never speak on the dead... The mouth is very harmful and the things that come out can last a life time.

Hey Everybody! Welcome to the last (possibly...) episode of our very special series, Men in Black: Legacy! This week, we discuss the newest edition of the franchise - Men in Black: International. In our discussion, we get to ask some very important questions: Why did this movie get made? Why is it not good? Why does everyone keep talking about how different Chris Hemsworth is? Will there be any more MIB movies in the future? Why do we talk about fake movie news in the middle of it all? Who Knows?! After our hilarious discussion of the movie, we have our second-to-last Mibiles! Ceremony followed by Caleb's third week hosting the Trivia Game in a question far less confusing (THANKFULLY!!). It's one of the good ones. You should tell your friends to listen to it! You can find this podcast anywhere in the world, as long as you don't have to walk through a transparent fence to get to it. Rate and review this podcast on iTunes and we won't have to neuralyze you, hand you a Series 7 Deatomizer and let you figure out the rest with the help of your wits. Email us any of your questions, comments or your own thought on Men in Black: International to wemakethislookgood52@gmail.com. Check us out on Instagram! Thanks for listening. Pledge allegiance to the Flag, or be labeled unpatriotic. That's what you'll here in so many circles. But, many of the voices in those circles seem unpatriotic themselves...fueled by bigotry & hatred. How do we pledge allegiance in a way that's authentic to our identity? How do we pledge allegiance in a way that doesn't dishonor our ancestors, and the blood they shed for our freedom? I had a conversation with my 12 year old son that served to spark the content for this episode. I wonder how you are addressing this with your sons and daughters. Are we setting our children up to be strong Americans, honoring the Legacy of our ancestors who fought to end slavery and segregation? In this episode of Blacks with Power, I'll share some strategies for an authentic allegiance to America that is worthy of the Black Legacy. Resources Mentioned in this Episode: Blacks with Power Sweepstakes. Encouraging you to get involved with your various organizations, strengthening their ability to fight on our behalf. Declaration of Independence & Constitution of the United States of America. Don't just read it online. You should actually own a copy. The Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers explain the complexities of a constitutional government—its political structure and principles based on the inherent rights of man. Delve into the mind of one of America's Founding Fathers (who was also a Black man born in the Caribbean). Common Sense. Common Sense is a persuasive argument for the American colonies' political and economic separation from Britain. It is credited by George Washington as having changed the minds of many of the colonists so they would support the American Revolution. Notes on the State of Virginia. Thomas Jefferson uses this work to define both the ideal of Freedom and the concept of America. Democracy in America. Frenchman, Alexis de Tocqueville visits an early America and relays his perspective on how the United States adopted the revolution & adapted the form of government from France.
Donald Trump is now the President of the United States. What does that mean for Black America? Many are upset. 100 protesters were arrested for riots before the Inaugural Parade. Dozens of politicians boycotted the Inauguration. Yet, none of those things change the reality: Donald Trump is the US President. So, what needs to be our focus for the next four years? How do we engage this period of American History? The answer to those questions will determine if we are able to Protect the Black Legacy and Advance the Cause of Freedom for ourselves and our posterity. Are you interested in those two issues? You see: agenda item number one for President Donald Trump will be to destroy the Obama Legacy. The Black Legacy...the legacy of those who fought and died for the Freedom of Black America...will be attacked next. Yet, every moment offers us a hope. And in this episode, I'll talk about the hope for Black America that is presented by the Presidency of Donald Trump. Making America Great again seems to be about rolling back the gains made by the Civil Rights Movement. Unless we can employ power politics, the next four years will be difficult. But what does that all mean? Malcolm X gave us a framework of that meaning, and in this episode we'll lay the foundation for protecting the Black Legacy over the next four years while advancing the Cause of Freedom. I'll be asking your thoughts! So be sure to listen and then post your responses. ShaiLuv and JusRome explore stereotypes myths and "facts" around the HBCU and PWI experience. They were joined by Travis P. Jackson of @hbcupridenation and @DJWood704 of Black Legacy, LLC who both attended illustrious and respected HBCUs. LOL! This conversation was beyond intriguing and most of all #IntellectuallyRatchet entertainment. Our conversation is one that needs to be shared and expressed in a healthy dialogue!
There are a number of great African Americans both men and women that have contributed to our Black History, our American History, but rarely did they receive the recognition and credit for their accomplishments that transcended historical bounds that created legacies. Many of our great inventors are black, and yet, you wouldn’t know it from our history books. Is the civil rights legacy relevant today? Will the current generation leave a legacy for the next? How will you be remembered? What will your legacy be? Dr. Willie Jolley, Dr. Estrelda Alexander, and Georgia State Senator Vincent Fort join us to answer these questions.
Ugh! I had to replace my "Black Legacy" playlist, originally meant for today's webcast (Sept. 3rd, 2011 2pm - 4pm @ www.killradio.org). Why? After the implosion of last week's CSC ("Beats, Breakbeats, Scratches and Bass"), I found the "Black Legacy" show to be as implosion-possible as the "BBSB" show was. Frakkin' heavy handed DJing if ya' ask me...and now I'm scared that I've lost my playlist-making powers. So fine, let's jump to my "Children's Show" with music that was a part of my youth as well as music made for children from the 40's - 70's. No way to misstep with kiddie music, right?!! Right?!! Answer ME!!! Many tracks played throughout today's show I was happy to find thanks to the magic of the Internet. Perfect examples are all the tracks by the Record Guild of America, Inc., that during the 1940's produced a number of children's music records on 45rpm. I was lucky enough to find them available in .mp3 format along with the original artwork. (Check out the link which proves I'm tellin' the truth). One of the tracks that I was practically raised on was "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group, as it was played (by my brother and I mostly) on my parents' jukebox growing up. Actually it was my Mom's jukebox, an anniversary present my Dad gave to her back in the early 70's. It looks just like the one linked and I just saw a similar one for sale at a vintage clothing store in Echo Park, although someone painted red paint all over what was originally silver metal and stained wood. Also Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherezade was another track that I have my Mom to thank for. I can remember "The Young Prince and the Young Princess" being played while my family and I did housework and yardwork on the weekends. For that reason, this show is very much dedicated, with much love and affection, to my Mom and all the great music that she exposed me to growing up. 1.
