Work On Your Game: Discipline, Confidence & Mental Toughness For Sports, Business & Life | Mental Health & Mindset

On today's show, we're talking about the whole Mel Tucker situation – you know, the football coach from Michigan State who got fired over sexual harassment allegations by Brenda Tracy, that consultant speaker. Now, Brenda's got this whole career built around her own story of alleged gang rape. The thing is, her past story was never proven in court. So, we're digging into why the "Believe All Women" thing might be a bit of a stretch. We chat about biases, the need for a fair look at both sides, and why it's crucial for guys to be careful and accountable in relationships. Keep an eye on this ongoing case, and let's keep it real, folks. Show notes: [18:48]#1 Men and women both have the capacity to lie.  [27:47]#2 Ongoing feminization of society has tipped the scales in favor of this alleged female victim accusing a man with resources, of wrongdoing.  [33:18]#3 Men, it's time to hold you accountable. The massive contract extension former Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker signed in November of 2021 made headlines, both because it established Tucker one of the highest paid coaches in the sport, and because it was a fully guaranteed deal. The feel-good story, however, came to an abrupt halt less than 2 years into the deal when Tucker was accused by Brenda Tracy, a prominent rape survivor and activist, of engaging in a sex act without her consent. On this episode of Crisis Communications in Sports, we speak to Kenny Jacoby, the investigative reporter from USA Today who broke the story (09:44). Hosts Jim Rocco and Cris Bruce get things underway with a discussion about the recent video put out by one time Major League Baseball star Trevor Bauer who is seeking to clear his name and restore his reputation following a settlement in his own sexual assault case (01:00).

On the version of Hot off the Wire posted Sept. 20 at 6:57 a.m. CT: ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — As migration to the United States from Venezuela and other countries soars, Democratic elected officials are pressing the Biden administration to quickly grant work permits for asylum-seekers while their cases wind through immigration courts. In New York City, tens of thousands of migrants have arrived over the past year. Mayor Eric Adams has increasingly sounded alarms and Gov. Kathy Hochul is floating the idea of state-issued work permits. Asylum-seekers must wait at least six months before they can get a work permit. That cannot be changed without Congress, but some Democrats say there are other steps that President Joe Biden could take. The Fed is set to make an announcement on interest rates later Wednesday. The expectation is for it to announce no change. The United Auto Workers union is preparing to expand its strike against Detroit's Big Three unless it sees progress in contract negotiations. UAW President Shawn Fain says workers at more factories will join those already on strike at noon Friday unless there is “serious progress” toward agreements. Meanwhile, Canadian union Unifor said late Tuesday that it reached a tentative agreement with Ford covering 5,600 workers in Canada.. But in the U.S., the UAW strike, which is limited to three plants, is now in its fifth day. A White House official says the Biden administration reversed a plan to send the acting Labor Secretary and a senior White House adviser to Detroit this week to meet with both sides. KANSAS CITY NATIONAL SECURITY CAMPUS, Mo. (AP) — The U.S. will spend more than $750 billion over the next decade to overhaul nearly every part of its nuclear defenses and replace systems that in some cases are more than 50 years old. But until each of those programs is ready, it's up to young military troops and government technicians across the U.S. to care for the existing bombs, often through delicate maintenance performed by hand. The Associated Press was granted rare access inside military nuclear missile bases and government weapons facilities to report on how they are adjusting to meet the increasing workload. HUEHUETOCA, Mexico (AP) — A Mexican railway operator has announced it is suspending train runs in the northern part of the country because so many migrants are climbing aboard freight cars and getting hurt in the process. The Ferromex railway said Tuesday that it has temporarily ordered a halt to 60 trains. The company said in a statement that “in recent days, there have been about a half-dozen regrettable cases of injuries or deaths” among migrants hopping freight cars. The company, part of Grupo Mexico, said some even hopped on moving freight cars with children “despite the grave danger that represents.” It comes as migrants are increasingly desperate to reach the U.S. border. The Orioles win a battle of the AL's top two teams, the AL West race tightens, the AL and NL Central leaders lower their magic numbers, and surgery for Shohei Ohtani and Nick Chubb.  On the version of Hot off the Wire posted Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. CT: UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia is “weaponizing” everything from food and energy to abducted children in its war against Ukraine. And he's warning other world leaders that the same could happen to them. Zelenskyy spoke Tuesday at the U.N. General Assembly's annual top-level meeting. He noted the war's effect on global food and fuel supplies highlighted the situation of Ukrainian children who were taken from their families after Moscow's invasion. Russia hasn't yet had its turn to address the assembly. UNITED NATIONS (AP) — President Joe Biden has made his case before the U.N. General Assembly that the world must remain united in defending Ukraine against Russian aggression. In an address in New York on Tuesday, Biden warned that no nation can be secure if “we allow Ukraine to be carved up” as he tries to rally support for Kyiv's effort to repel a nearly 19-month-old Russian invasion that has no end in sight. The U.S. president called on world leaders not to let support for Ukraine diminish and he argued that Russia is counting on countries to grow tired of prolonged conflict in Kyiv which would “allow it to brutalize Ukraine without consequence.” Biden is scheduled to host talks Thursday at the White House with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans plan to hold their first hearing next week in their impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden over his family's business dealings. The Sept. 28 hearing is expected to focus on “constitutional and legal questions” that surround allegations of Biden's involvement in his son Hunter's overseas businesses. That is according to a spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee, which is leading the hearing. The committee also plans to subpoena the personal and business bank records of Biden's son. The White House has called the effort by House Republicans “extreme politics at its worst.” EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Suspended Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker says he's “disappointed — but not surprised” that the school intends to fire him for misconduct involving activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy. In a statement Tuesday, Tucker suggests that “other motives are at play” in the school's decision. The university informed Tucker on Monday that he will be fired without compensation for misconduct involving Tracy, who said Tucker sexually harassed her during an April 2022 phone call. She later filed a complaint with the school's Title IX office. Tucker has called the allegations “completely false.” He said Tuesday that, “A cursory reading of the facts and timeline should cause any fair-minded person to conclude that other motives are at play." NEW YORK (AP) — Amazon said on Tuesday that it will hire 250,000 full and part-time workers for the holiday season, a 67% jump compared to last year. The company wrote in a blog post that it will also raise the average pay for warehouse and transportation roles from $19 to over $20.50 per hour. The company noted more jobs are available because it opened over 50 new fulfillment centers, delivery stations and same-day delivery sites in the U.S. this year. Other retailers have also begun announcing their holiday plans. Target said on Tuesday it will add nearly 100,000 seasonal roles for the holiday season. Macy's Inc, which owns the department stores Macy's and Bloomingdale's, said on Monday it planned to hire more than 38,000 full- and part-time seasonal employees. DETROIT (AP) — Michigan's attorney general is suggesting conservative politics played a role in the acquittal of three men in the final trial related to a plan to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Like Whitmer, Dana Nessel is a Democrat. She told a liberal group Monday that the trial was held in a “very right-leaning county.” William Null, twin brother Michael Null and Eric Molitor were found not guilty of providing material support for the scheme's leaders last week. They were the last of 14 men to face charges in state or federal court. Nessel says the verdicts last week were “terrifying.” A former federal prosecutor, Matthew Schneider, says the remarks were inappropriate and that it's not helpful to "trash" the “American jury system.” The Walt Disney Co. is planning to invest approximately $60 billion into its theme parks and cruise lines over the next decade, as the company looks to continue growing one of its more successful business segments. The company said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday that the planned investment is nearly double what it spent in the prior 10-year period. NEW YORK (AP) — Rudy Giuliani's former lawyer has sued him, alleging the ex-New York City mayor has paid only a fraction of nearly $1.6 million in legal fees he's racked up from investigations into his efforts to keep Donald Trump in the White House. Robert Costello and his law firm, Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP, say Giuliani has paid them just $214,000 and still has a $1.36 million tab. Giuliani's last payment, according to the lawsuit, was $10,000 on Sept. 14 — about a week after Trump hosted a $100,000-a-plate fundraiser for Giuliani at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club. Giuliani said Monday that he “can't express how personally hurt I am by what Bob Costello has done.” ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The playoff-bound Tampa Bay Rays put the finishing touches on plans for a new 30,000-seat ballpark in St. Petersburg. It's part of a $6.5 billion development project announced Tuesday that includes affordable housing, retail, bars and restaurants and a Black history museum. The site is on the same 86-acre tract of downtown land where Tropicana Field now sits. An official with the Rays says that domed, oddly-tilted ballpark will be demolished once the new one is built, in time for opening day in 2028. The plan would keep the Rays in St. Petersburg for the foreseeable future. But, it still has to clear some political hurdles on funding and approvals. LONDON (AP) — YouTube says Russell Brand will no longer make money from the video streaming site after several women made allegations of sexual assault against the comedian-turned influencer. YouTube says Brand's account has been suspended “following serious allegations against the creator.” Brand's main account has more than 6.6 million subscribers. He denies allegations of sexual assault made by four women in a Channel 4 television documentary and The Times and Sunday Times newspapers. The accusers have not been named. One of them said she was sexually assaulted during a relationship with him when she was 16. Another woman says Brand raped her in Los Angeles in 2012. NEW YORK (AP) — A taped package containing several thousand dollars' worth of fentanyl was discovered inside the New York City day care center where a 1-year-old child died of an opioid overdose last week. But the owner of the day care center, Grei Mendez, maintained she had no knowledge of the presence of the highly potent opioid. Her attorney noted she had rented a room in the apartment to a man, Carlist Acevedo Brito, who may have been responsible for the drug operation. Mendez pleaded not guilty in court Sunday night to the charges. Brito was awaiting arraignment. His attorney did not immediately response to a request for comment. —The Associated Press About this program Host Terry Lipshetz is a senior producer for Lee Enterprises. International aid crews were prepared to deploy, but remained in limbo waiting for the Morocco government to request their assistance. “We know there is a great urgency to save people and dig under the remains of buildings,” said the, founder of Rescuers Without Borders, who had a team stuck in Paris waiting for the green light. “There are people dying under the rubble, and we cannot do anything to save them.” Those left homeless – or fearing more aftershocks – from Friday night’s earthquake slept outside Saturday, in the streets of the ancient city of Marrakech or under makeshift canopies in Atlas Mountain towns like Moulay Brahim, which were among the hardest-hit. The worst destruction was in small, rural communities that are hard for rescuers to reach because of the mountainous terrain. Those same areas were shaken anew Sunday by a magnitude 3.9 quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It wasn’t immediately clear if the temblor caused more damage or casualties, but it was likely strong enough to rattle nerves in areas where damage has left buildings unstable and people have spoken of their fears of aftershocks. The earthquake on Friday toppled buildings not built to withstand such a mighty quake, trapping people in the rubble and sending others fleeing in terror. A total of 2,012 people were confirmed dead and at least 2,059 more people were injured – 1,404 of them critically – Morocco’s Interior Ministry reported Saturday night. Flags were lowered across Morocco, as King Mohammed VI ordered three days of national mourning starting Sunday. The army mobilized specialized search and rescue teams, and the king ordered water, food rations and shelter to be provided to those who lost their homes. Aid offers have poured in from around the world and the U.N. said it had a team in Morocco coordinating with authorities about how international partners can provide support. About 100 teams made up of a total of 3,500 rescuers from around the world are registered with a U.N. platform and ready to deploy in Morocco when asked, Rescuers Without Borders said. In a sign that Morocco may be prepared to accept more help from outside, the Spanish military said it had sent an air force plane carrying an urban search and rescue team of 56 soldiers and four dogs to Marrakech to help. Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said in a radio interview that the deployment was in response to a bilateral request for help from Moroccan authorities. Another rescue team from Nice, France, also was on its way. In France, home to many people with links to Morocco, towns and cities have offered more than 2 million euros ($2.1 million) in aid, and popular performers are rallying to collect donations. The Moroccan king ordered the opening of special bank accounts to allow donations to help those in need. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-66771568 Kim Jong Un: North Korea leader's armoured train reportedly heading to meet Putin The armoured train that Mr Kim uses for foreign visits appears to have departed Pyongyang, South Korean media reported citing a government official. The meeting between the two leaders is expected to take place as early as Tuesday local time. The Kremlin has confirmed that Mr Kim will visit Russia "in the coming days". The Pentagon said it believes Mr Kim is travelling to Russia and it expects "some type of meeting", according to the BBC's US partner CBS News. If the summit with Mr Putin goes ahead, it will be the North Korean leader's first international trip in more than four years, and the first since the pandemic. The two leaders will likely discuss the possibility of North Korea providing Moscow with weapons to support its war in Ukraine, a US official earlier told CBS, the BBC's US partner. Mr Kim's last trip abroad was also to Vladivostok in 2019 for his first summit with Mr Putin after the collapse of North Korea's nuclear disarmament talks with then US President Donald Trump. It is rumoured to include at least 20 bulletproof cars, making it heavier than average trains and unable to go beyond 59 km/h (37mph). His journey to Vladivostok is expected to take an entire day. The possible meeting comes after the White House said it had new information that arms negotiations between the two countries were "actively advancing". National Security Council spokesman John Kirby earlier said Russia's Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu, had tried to "convince Pyongyang to sell artillery ammunition" to Russia during a recent visit to North Korea. The summit comes at a time when both Russia and North Korea have things that the other country wants, according to Ankit Panda from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "What'll matter now is if both sides can find suitable prices they're willing to pay for the other's assistance," he told the BBC. Russia will likely ask North Korea for conventional arms, including artillery shells and rocket artillery munitions in exchange for food and raw materials, and continuing support at international forums like the United Nations, he said. "This could open up the possibility of North Korea transferring more sophisticated weaponry to Russia to allow Moscow to maintain and backfill its own stocks of conventional weapons," he said. It is thought that Russia might need 122mm and 152mm shells because its stocks are running low, but it is not easy to determine North Korea's full artillery inventory, given its secretive nature. Weapons on display at the meeting between Mr Kim and Mr Shoigu in July included the Hwasong intercontinental ballistic missile, believed to be the country's first ICBM to use solid propellants. It was the first time Mr Kim had opened the country's doors to foreign guests since the Covid pandemic. https://thepostmillennial.com/police-budget-cut-in-nyc-as-illegal-immigrant-crisis-forces-women-children-to-sleep-in-tents?utm_campaign=64487 Police budget cut in NYC as illegal immigrant crisis forces women, children to sleep in tents On Saturday, city officials announced that the New York Police Department's budget would be cut, with that money re-allocated to solving the migrant crisis. The move comes as New York City continues to deal with rampant crime and an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants, many of whom, including women and children, may soon be forced out of shelters and into tents on the street. Budget Director Jacques Jiha revealed in a memo over the weekend explaining that Mayor Eric Adams, who recently said the migrant crisis could "destroy" the city, will soon "issue a directive to implement an overtime reduction initiative for our city's four uniformed agencies." These include the NYPD, the fire department, the corrections department, and the department of sanitation, all of whom provide vital services to the city and its residents. Jiha also asked the agencies to "track overtime spending and their progress in meeting the reduction target," and submit monthly reports to the city. The head of the Police Benevolent Association, Patrick Hendry, slammed the move as out of touch with reality. "It is going to be impossible for the NYPD to significantly reduce overtime unless it fixes its staffing crisis," he said. "We are still thousands of cops short, and we're struggling to drive crime back to pre-2020 levels without adequate personnel." As the Daily Mail reports, New York City is currently spending close to $10 million per day dealing with the surge of migrants, with no end to the crisis in sight. The massive cuts to the budgets of essential city services will only cover two-thirds of the projected costs. As more migrants arrive, shelters and other facilities have reached their breaking point. During an interview with PIX11 on Sunday, Adams said that those who had been given priority for indoor sleeping areas could lose that privilege. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/fauci-federal-recommendations-possible-not-mandates-uptick-covid Fauci says federal mask 'recommendations' are possible amid uptick in COVID Former White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci predicted Sunday that federal recommendations for masking may be given as COVID-19 cases continue to rise, but not federal mandates. In an appearance on ABC's This Week, Fauci told Jon Karl he would be "extremely surprised" if a federal mask mandate were put in place. "I can see that if we get a significant uptick in cases that you may see the recommendation that masks be used under certain circumstances and indoor crowded settings, but I don't see there'd be certainly not federal mandates," he said. "There may be local organizations that may require masks, but I think what we're gonna see mostly are, if the cases go up that there might be recommendations, not mandates. There's a big difference there," Fauci continued. Karl also pressed the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director at the National Institutes of Health on the efficacy of masking in retrospect. Asked about new studies indicating that the practice of masking may not have been effective in containing the COVID-19 virus, Fauci claimed some studies are being misconstrued. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/michigan-state-suspends-mel-tucker-without-pay-sexual-harassment-allegations Michigan State suspends Mel Tucker without pay amid sexual harassment allegations Michigan State suspended football coach Mel Tucker Sunday amid an investigation after he was accused of sexually harassing a rape survivor last year. Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller made the announcement following conflicting reports Tucker was going to be fired and/or suspended. He added that Tucker was suspended without pay. Tucker has been the head coach of the Spartans since 2020 and signed a 10-year, $95 million contract extension in November 2021. The allegations against Tucker surfaced earlier in the day in a USA Today report. According to ESPN, he was under investigation over the allegations. Michigan State secondary coach Harlon Barnett will serve as the interim head coach. Former coach Mark Dantonio is returning as an associate head coach. Brenda Tracy, a sexual assault prevention advocate who was gang raped by four college football players in 1998, filed the complaint against Tucker and alleged the coach had asked whether she would date him if he weren’t already married and gratified himself without her consent during a phone call, according to USA Today. Tucker claims all of this was consensual - stating: "Ms. Tracy’s distortion of our mutually consensual and intimate relationship into allegations of sexual exploitation has really affected me," Tucker wrote to the Title IX investigator in March, according to USA Today. "I am not proud of my judgment and I am having difficulty forgiving myself for getting into this situation, but I did not engage in misconduct by any definition."

“There are no good guys or girls in the Mel Tucker saga. None.” Following Michigan State's rout on Saturday, the university announced it was suspending head coach Mel Tucker without pay pending an investigation of allegedly inappropriate sexual behavior with a rape survivor and sexual and domestic violence counselor once employed by the football team. Brenda Tracy charges Tucker initiated non-consensual phone sex, while Tucker alleges Tracy sought a “sugar daddy” relationship with him. Jason says in the aftermath of the Dr. Larry Nassar molestation tragedy, the atmosphere in East Lansing was charged to create the firestorm that will ultimately lead to Tucker's dismissal. “The rise and fall of the Michigan State football coach is a story about the complicated and disingenuous relationships between brand-builders, influencers, billionaires, and institutions.” T.J. The Michigan State Situation Starts at 1:00 ESPN and USA Today have released articles detailing Mel Tucker's investigation of sexual harassment involving Brenda Tracy. Mel Tucker is turbo fired but legally they need to follow the process and put him on administrative leave for now. An alarming number of Big Ten programs have tried to hide damning reports from the media. When will universities hold themselves accountable for their actions? [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Offense vs UNLV Starts at 17:04 Once again, the story is JJ playing out of his mind. The evaluating of his incompletions is, once again, short. Some of his throws are just ridiculous. When the linebackers turn their backs, he sees it and throws behind them. His pocket movement is good enough to give him the extra beat to get a throw off. He even had a couple nice runs. The receivers appear to be reading the coverage and JJ is on the same page as them. The only thing we really haven't seen is a deep ball. UNLV covered the deep and intermediate routes, so JJ just hits Blake Corum for 20 yards. JJ is projecting to be the best Michigan quarterback of our lives. Where is Alex Orji? Jack Tuttle's run looked really nice before he got injured. Jayden Denegal had a nice throw. Tyler Morris has emerged and is a good blocker. The ground game wasn't what you'd like. UNLV did load the box at times but the dive plays are too predictable. They're not rotating the tackles like they said they would. It doesn't look like there's any major issue but there are a bunch of little things. Is there reason to just expect this year's run game to not be the same as last year? Even if that's the case, that's fine because JJ.  3. Hot Takes, Defense, and Special Teams Starts at 1:06:54 Takes hotter than JJ McCarthy, what else is there to say? How upsetting is it that Michigan got the same score as Ohio State? We were all hyped up about the Go-Go offense and then they didn't do anything. The expectations for the defensive line are being met emphatically. Cam Goode is out there making plays. Derrick Moore is moving incredibly for someone that weighs 260 pounds. Who is blocking this defensive line, Purdue? Mike Barrett's ability to locate a swing pass early was fun. No Rod Moore, Will Johnson came in for a series. Keon Sabb played like a promising sophomore. Caden Kolesar shined in this game. Jyaire Hill seems like he's still on track to start by the end of the year. Punt return situation is a bit of a caretaker situation. Tommy Doman is booming his punts.  4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:49:33 Iowa - 20 Iowa State - 13 Cade McNamara was 12/22 for 123 yards and an interception. Oof. Defensive touchdowns do count for Brian Ferentz's 25 points per game goal.  Colorado - 36 Nebraska - 14 Who has the most career turnovers as a player (fumbles and interceptions). Jeff Sims has to be up there (he's at 37). This game had to be so frustrating for the Nebraska defense. They had eight sacks!  Purdue - 24 Virginia Tech - 17 Purdue has a viable run game and destroyed the Virginia Tech run game. It's a road game win against a power five team for the Big Ten! The rain delay in this game was five and a half hours. Purdue spent its time playing spades.  Washington State - 31 Wisconsin - 22 Who isn't rooting for Washington State this season, all things considered? Oregon State fans cheered really loud when this score was announced at their stadium. It's depressing that both of these teams will lose almost all the traditions their fans grew up to love. It's a sin against college football for Wisconsin to not be Wisconsin and they are being punished. Ohio State - 35 Youngstown State - 7 Feels like a vintage Ohio State team should score 70 in this game. Notre Dame is looming in two weeks and the Irish are looking pretty good.  Kansas - 34 Illinois - 23 Illinois had a defensive collapse, giving up 277 passing yards and allowing two rushers to get 120 and 98 yards. Kansas only punted once. Illinois has Penn State up next, this could be a long year for the Illini. Their dudes at defensive tackle got wrecked. The rest of the games were pretty much blowouts, there aren't really any takes. Besides Biff Poggi's arms.  MUSIC: “Bloodless”— Andrew Bird “Valentine”— Drugdealer “Psychos”—  Jenny Lewis “Across 110th Street”

The Orioles lost again last night. Le sigh. Perhaps Chance Sisco ISN'T a catcher. Le sigh. A Blues player puked during the Stanley Cup parade. That's interesting-why doesn't that happen more often? Oh and today is the 15th anniversary of "Dodgeball" being released in theaters. What movie's underdog story is SOOOO absurd that it actually makes it tough for you to enjoy the film? Midway through Hour 1, a very important conversation-gang rape survivor turned activist Brenda Tracy joined the show after she spoke to the Baltimore Ravens last week at minicamp. What was her message? Late in Hour 1 (and into Hour 2), PressBox's chief grand poobah Stan "The Fan" Charles stopped by the Live Casino Hotel studio for another round of "Five Words Or Less," discussing relevant sports figures like Michael Pierce, Gary Woodland, OJ Simpson and more. And we wrapped the show by chatting with USA Today's Jarrett Bell about his Lamar Jackson column and Marty Mornhinweg's 25 WORD play calls.

This week’s conversation is with Brenda Tracy, the founder of the national campaign SetTheExpectation which aims to raise awareness around issues of sexual assault and domestic violence -- through the power of sports while also engaging, empowering and educating men as agents for change.Brenda was gang raped by four men in 1998.So heavy. In this conversation, she shares that even though law enforcement collected extensive evidence – including confessions from her attackers – the District Attorney advised against prosecuting her case. She was never advised of her victims’ rights, nor informed when officials destroyed her evidence three years prior to the statute of limitations.Sixteen years later, Brenda came forward publicly, and now seeks to make the world a better place for survivors. Her stance on “men as the solution” has garnered national attention and made her one of the country’s most influential voices on sexual assault.I wanted to speak with Brenda to better understand courage.Where did she find the power to come forward, be vulnerable, and not only stand up for what’s right but also strive for change. Brenda Tracy is a catalyst and agent of change. She joins The Yogi Roth Show, as their conversation will take you inside the world of Brenda, as she travels to college campuses year-round, impacting college athletes to Set The Expectation.Brenda, a survivor of a gang rape on a college campus is now inspiring and empowering student-athletes to #SetTheExpectation to end sexual and relationship violence on college campuses.Over the last two years, thousands of high school and college student-athletes have embraced her campaign and most recently a conference has embraced her mission. Among them have been Stanford, San Jose State, Michigan, The Opening Football Camp and many more. Leading the way was Stanford Head Coach David Shaw, who dedicated the first ever college football game to bringing awareness to sexual and relationship violence on campus, and the Cardinal titled that game in 2017 the #SetTheExpectation game. In 2018, other teams have followed Stanford's lead. Brenda and Yogi's powerful conversation unpacks what it means to be a “survivor,” as well as how Brenda was able to find an immense amount of strength within herself to create positivity for others. Brenda is forced to tear herself apart and relive the details of her assault every time she shares her story, but she has found comfort in knowing that by her opening up, she's helping others get through their worst moments and preventing future assaults from happening. Her goal is to create a new societal norm that doesn't allow for sexual assault or violence to take place, and redefine what manhood is by showing college athletes that it's okay to be respectful to women. Today these jarring words roll off my tongue. 'I was gang raped.' I start a lot of speaking engagements with that sentence. You think you get nervous talking in front of a crowd? Try sharing intimate details of the worst event in your life with complete strangers. ... My gang rape happened 17 years ago, and statistically nothing has changed. How do we improve the numbers? How do we prevent my story from happening again?"
