Hello hello everyone, this is Alex, typing these words from beautiful Seattle (really, it only rained once while I was here!) where I'm attending Microsoft biggest developer conference BUILD. This week we saw OpenAI get in the news from multiple angles, none of them positive and Microsoft clapped back at Google from last week with tons of new AI product announcements (CoPilot vs Gemini) and a few new PCs with NPU (Neural Processing Chips) that run alongside CPU/GPU combo we're familiar with. Those NPUs allow for local AI to run on these devices, making them AI native devices! While I'm here I also had the pleasure to participate in the original AI tinkerers thanks to my friend Joe Heitzberg who operates and runs the aitinkerers.org (of which we are a local branch in Denver) and it was amazing to see tons of folks who listen to ThursdAI + read the newsletter and talk about Weave and evaluations with all of them! All the models have a small context version (4K and 8K) and a large that goes up to 128K (tho they recommend using the small if you don't need that whole context) and all can run on device super quick. Those models have MIT license, so use them as you will, and are giving an incredible performance comparatively to their size on benchmarks. Phi-3 mini, received an interesting split in the vibes, it was really good for reasoning tasks, but not very creative in it's writing, so some folks dismissed it, but it's hard to dismiss these new releases, especially when the benchmarks are that great! LMsys just updated their arena to include a hard prompts category (X) which select for complex, specific and knowledge based prompts and scores the models on those. Phi-3 mini actually gets a big boost in ELO ranking when filtered on hard prompts and beats GPT-3.5

Live from the Heart of America—I'm Steve Gruber— Your Soldier of Truth—the Tip of the Spear against socialists—here ready to fight for you from the Foxhole of Freedom—AND—please my friends REMEMBER TO THINK while its still legal—this is the Steve Gruber Show—   Here are 3 big things you need to know right now—   Number One—    Number Two— 75,000 health care workers walked off the job yesterday in the biggest strike of its kind in American history—it's the latest major strike in America under Bidenomics—   Number Three— The fallout is continuing following the historic vote in the House on Tuesday to remove Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker—a move orchestrated by a small but determined group of Republicans—that Democrats happily joined to sew chaos and mischief for their own agendas—   And the field of possible replacements for Kevin McCarthy is growing—with a few members of Congress already throwing their names in the ring for consideration—   Steve Scalise, Jim Jordan and Kevin Hern have all said they will seek the job in the wake of the far-right rebellion that knocked McCarthy out of the Speakers job—the first time that has ever happened in American history—   Florida's Matt Gaetz who is rumored to be considering a run for Governor of The Sunshine State—led the attack—and delivered a total of 8 Republicans along with every single Democrat—to make McCarthy the Former Speaker of the House—and it happened quite swiftly—   So far those 8 have not said who they will support to replace McCarthy—and in fact Andy Biggs the Congressman from Arizona told me yesterday that he is being treated like a pariah and will not tell anyone who he will or will not support—because his endorsement is enough right now to keep someone from gaining the gavel—   And make no mistake there is plemnty of anger right now aimed at Gaetz, Biggs and the rest of the rogue 8 who were the demise of the former Speaker—and that anger is certainly not settled yet—   In fact, like Congressman Biggs told me—he is a pariah right now—BUT they will need his vote going forward—so I am guessing this too shall pass—afterall its politics—and as soon as they need a vote on a new Speaker—they will be far more polite—BUT we are not there—not anywhere near that yet—    The Democrats are still celebrating the downfall of McCarthy of course—nto because they thnk the next Speaker will be any better for them of course—NO—because if for just a moment it takes everyone's eyes off the border, the economy of Bidenomics and all the rest of the failures that have been the result of Joe Biden in the White House—and all the failing policies that continue to put America dead last—   One of the leading candidates for the job now is Jim Jordan of Ohio—who has long been a favorite of strong conservatives—and a guy who might be able to bring all factions together in the Republican Party—at least for a little while—   And like I said to Democrats—DO NOT take too many victory laps—because by this time next week—you can expect a new owner of the Speakers gavel—and if its Jim Jordan, I will be more optimistic than I was when McCarthy got the job—   One of the other things Democrats have failed at—other than the laundry list I give you here daily—is keeping crime under control—in fact we are in about the worst place I have ever seen when it comes to crime in America—and I am hopeful that whoever gets the gavel—will make supporting the police and protecting regular Americans from criminals a top issue to deal with—   I mean— a Democrat member of Congress was just held up at gunpoint less than a mile from the House of Representatives—and the blue team acts like its no big deal—  And why are Democrats always so eager to paint nasty criminals as the victims? Why do they think that property crimes don't really matter? The federal government has already given Chicago and Illinois at least $8.5 million for the migrant crisis. Other major cities are battling a migrant problem as well. New York City is struggling to process about 113,000 migrants who have streamed into the city since last summer. New York also set up tent shelters for migrants last year but ran into issues, including flooding in one of those shelters. Other cities like Boston and Atlantic City, New Jersey, have rejected the idea of sheltering migrants in airports.

My guest on today's podcast is Ryan Carson, former COO of PROOF Collective and someone who has been deeply involved in the WEB3 space from the early days before creating his own NFT Venture Fund, 121G.  I first learned about Ryan when I won the raffle to mint a Moonbird. He was active in the Moonbirds' Discord and Twitter and came into the ladybirds' channel and spoke to us. He was very attentive, kind and well-spoken. Later when he left PROOF to start his own venture I noticed that he was under a lot of scrutiny from the NFT community.  People seem to analyse Ryan's every move and put, in my opinion, disproportionate weight on whatever he does and says.
