Alexander the Great is one of the most famous figures in history. Today our guest, Edmund Richardson, takes us back to see him in the year 331 BCE – the remarkable year when Alexander's story transformed from the impressive into the truly spectacular. At the beginning of 331, many of those in Alexander's army might have supposed that it was time to return to Macedon after a successful campaign on the coast of the Mediterranean. Instead, Alexander founded a city in his own name on the northern coast of Egypt, struck out to consult the oracle at Amun, then turned back to meet his great enemy, King Darius of Persia, in one of the greatest battles in history. Gaugamela. The scenes, characters and storylines in this episode of Travels Through Time all feature in Edmund Richardson's book, Alexander: God, King, Man. Show Notes Scene One: The foundation of Alexandria in Egypt. Scene Two: Alexander journeys to the oracle of Amun. Scene Three: Alexander's defeat of Darius at Gaugamela. Memento: The Iliad of the Casket. People/Social Presenter: Peter Moore Guest: Edmund Richardson Producer: Maria Nolan Theme music: Firelight by Minka Partner: ACE Cultural Tours.

My Wisdom Conversation with Marcus Daly What does a casket maker know about life? More than you might expect. In this deeply thoughtful conversation, Marcus Daly shares how a life spent building caskets has shaped the way he thinks about living, loving, and what ultimately matters. What begins as a conversation about craft and career unfolds into something far more meaningful—touching on loss, purpose, faith, and the quiet choices that shape a good life. A Bit More About Our Wise Guest Marcus is the founder of Marian Caskets, a husband and father of eleven. He's a former commercial fisherman and boat builder. A craftsman by trade and a student of life by disposition, Marcus brings a grounded, deeply human perspective to questions most of us tend to avoid. From a formative season in Alaska to a deeply personal moment that led him to build his first casket, Marcus offers wisdom that is both practical and profound. This episode doesn't feel heavy—it feels clarifying, even peaceful. Because at its core is a simple, searching question: Am I living in a way today that I won't have to run from later? What You'll Take Away Why thinking about death can sharpen how we live What most of us spend our lives worrying about (it doesn't matter) Two simple, practical steps to begin living differently—today Closing Thought A good life isn't built all at once. It's built one decision at a time—often in quiet, unseen moments—shaped by what we choose to value, who we choose to love, and how we choose to show up. And maybe, just maybe, the end of life isn't something to fear… but something that reveals whether we've been living it well. Wisdom Resources Marcus Daly's Podcast - "Die Human" on YouTube Website for Marian Caskets Short film documenting Marcus' work Episode Chapters 00:00 – Why Thinking About the End Changes How We Live Skip opens with wisdom, mortality, and the idea that a good death begins with a good life. 03:15 – Meet Marcus Daly: The Casket Maker Marcus is introduced, along with the unusual work and perspective he brings. 05:10 – How Marcus and Skip are Connected Skip and Marcus reconnect over their college days and Phi Sigma Kappa roots. 06:39 – A Podcast About Life, Death, and Meaning Marcus shares how his work led to deeper reflection through Die Human. 09:19 – Chasing Adventure in Alaska Marcus recalls commercial fishing and the pull toward hard, honest work. 11:41 – From Carpentry to Calling How working with his hands eventually led Marcus toward casket making. 12:34 – The First Casket: A Defining Loss Marcus shares the deeply personal story behind the first casket he built. 15:38 – What Death Reveals About Life How casket making reshaped his perspective on gratitude, priorities, and what endures. 17:44 - Marcus Reveals His Main Thing Wisdom 24:45 – Living It Out: Two Practical Steps Marcus offers simple, actionable ways to begin living differently. Here in New Mexico we know what it is like to stand up against tyranny and racism, and you inspire us to continue." Alexander Randall 5th emailed: "Whether you make better patter or not, I will listen to you until I die. I mentioned the Galacian Celtic music. I am so intrigued by this sound. Some of it is like obvious jigs and reels and marches, but it also sounds like Flamenco some of the time and sometimes muslim creep in. It is very "spanish" and yet not. And when the bagpipes come in, you think you are in Ireland... Here are four that you will find interesting. This one is by the kind of national Galacian folk arts concert. It opens with an almost middle eastern sound, the the voices com in singing in Spanish and then the bagpipes hit and it turns into a celtic party... in spain! This one opens with cricket and turns into a dance. This one is a jig. It says so in the title but then it turns into something else - - The Muneira is like the Galacian national dance... It could be scots... What country did this dance come from? You pick up all kinds of odd ideas. Fiddle around with this Galician celtic music…"

ESTTopic: IdentityTEATIME WITH MISS LIZ SERVES: BILL HULSEMAN Title Identity, Faith & Belonging: Choosing Your Own Story Tagline You are not stuck with the identity you inherit. April 2nd | 3 PM EST Topic: Identity, belonging, faith, queer experience, personal agency, and redefining tradition through lived truth.Description: In this deeply reflective Teatime, Miss Liz welcomes Bill Hulseman, author of six to carry the casket and one to say the mass. A former educator, middle school principal, and campus minister, Bill brings a powerful voice shaped by faith, family, and personal truth. His work explores the identities we inherit—and the courage it takes to question, reshape, and reclaim them. Through deeply personal essays, Bill reflects on growing up in a large family, navigating Catholicism, and embracing his queer identity in spaces that often required silence. His writing invites readers to examine where they belong, what they believe, and how they choose to show up in the world.Blending storytelling, ritual, and cultural reflection, Bill reminds us that identity is not fixed—it is something we actively create.“Welcome to Teatime with Miss Liz, where I don't serve a beverage — I serve real-life changemakers. Today, I sit with Bill Hulseman, a writer who invites us to question the identities we inherit and step into the power of choosing our own story.”Bill reminds us that belonging begins within. When we allow ourselves to reflect, question, and live authentically, we create space not only for our own truth—but for others to do the same. Bill Hulseman is a writer, ritual designer, and former educator whose work explores identity, faith, and belonging. Author of six to carry the casket and one to say the mass, he examines personal agency, queer identity, and tradition, encouraging readers to reflect deeply and shape their own narratives with honesty and courage. Featured Quote: “We are not stuck with the identity we inherit. The challenge—and the gift—is deciding what to keep and what to let go.”Resources Website: BillHulseman.com#TeatimeWithMissLiz#BillHulseman#IdentityAndBelonging#QueerVoices#TranscendEmbraceEnvisio
Chris Rock at Obama's going away party at Whitehouse! We look at the tell all Obama book by ex lover! Wrong body in the coffin! Opie joined by Jim Florentine, Sherrod Small, Stuntbrain and Rich Vos 5/4
Watch the Devotion Based on Romans 8:11-18 Beyond the Flag-Draped Case It's not an easy thing to watch the carry team salute the six flagged-draped transfer cases at Dover Air Force Base. It's even harder to read the stories about those fallen service members. These are men and a woman with families and friends and children who expected to receive them home as they walked off an aircraft, not carried in a coffin. When a fallen warfighter is escorted home, the ceremony and honor given to the remains of the body reminds everyone that death is real and painful—but it also reflects the promise that their story is not forgotten. The military honors their name, their body, and their future legacy. God promises even more. “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you” (Romans 8:11). The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead will raise our mortal bodies. That same Spirit lives in you. For you who are baptized into Christ's name are baptized into Christ and all he has done. If Christ died and his body was raised never to die again, so also you and I will have bodies that will be raised, no longer subject to aging, disease, or the effects of war, but free from the reign of decomposition, bodies which will live indefinitely. Death does not have the final word. Paul then reminds us why we do not grieve like the rest of the world, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). What is it like? How do we compare it? If you had scales in front of you and placed the weight of suffering and grief on one side of the scale, what would you put in the other that would far outweigh suffering and grief? Paul is saying that the weight of glory is so great that you cannot weigh it. Can you imagine it? Caskets and urns will be opened, and life will be found there where death once reigned. Bodies laid to rest at sea, down in the very depths of the waters, will be raised to live and die no more and God will share his glory with us in heaven for all eternity. Grieve and be sad. But grieve with hope – the sure certainty that since Christ is certainly raised and lives, those who die in Christ will rise to die no more. Yes, there is life eternal beyond the flag-draped case. Prayer: Lord Jesus, you know the grief that fills our hearts when death comes close. Comfort all who mourn, especially the families and brothers and sisters in arms who receive loved ones home not as they hoped. Remind us by your Spirit that death does not have the final word. As you were raised from the dead, so you promise that all who are baptized into you will also be raised to life. Strengthen us to grieve with hope, trusting that the glory you have prepared for your people far outweighs every suffering of this present time. Keep us steadfast in this promise until the day you raise the dead and make all things new. Amen. Written and recorded by Rev. It's time for a new Marvel Monday episode with the 2011 Thor.ABOUT THORThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR THORMay 6, 2011 | TheatersCAST & CREW OF THORChris Hemsworth as Thor Anthony Hopkins as Odin Natalie Portman as Jane Foster Tom Hiddleston as Loki Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis Clark Gregg as Agent CoulsonBRAN'S THOR SYNOPSISThree scientists — Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy Lewis — are driving a van through the desert when they witness a lightning storm forming. Jane isn't surprised, though, because she believes she can predict the appearance of wormholes. Suddenly, the van hits a man. He's hot. And breathing. We're then given some historical context. In 965 AD, the Frost Giants invaded Earth in Norway, using the Tesseract in hopes of taking over the planet. Luckily, the Asgardians showed up, forced the Frost Giants to retreat, and took the Tesseract with them.We learn that Odin is telling this story to his two sons — one blond, one dark-haired — explaining that both are worthy, but only one can be king. A classic way to pit two brothers against each other. That always ends well!Flash forward to present day: Asgard is pumped because blond-headed Thor is about to be crowned king. And wouldn't you know it — Loki is insanely jealous. Before Thor can be crowned, the Frost Giants break into the vault that houses the Casket of Ancient Winters. Thor loses it. He flips a giant table and demands retaliation. Odin says no and reminds him that he is not king yet.Thor says “heard that” and immediately travels through a portal to confront the Frost Giants himself. A fight breaks out. Loki discovers that the Frost Giants can't harm him — his skin even turns blue like theirs. Odin shows up, stops the battle, apologizes to the Frost Giant king, and brings everyone home.Odin is furious with Thor. He strips him of his powers and banishes him to Earth, where he crash-lands in the desert and gets hit by a car — bringing us back to the beginning.Thor wakes up acting completely unhinged (by Earth standards), so the locals tase him and take him to the hospital. He escapes, only for Jane to hit him with her car again. They start spending time together and discover a mysterious “satellite crash.” Thor immediately knows it's his hammer.Unfortunately, the area is now under government control. Thor still tries to retrieve the hammer, but fails — he can't lift it.Back in Asgard, Thor's friends suspect Loki has been up to no good. Loki confronts Odin and learns the truth: he isn't Asgardian at all, but a Frost Giant taken as a baby and raised by Odin. Loki does not take this well, yells at Odin, and the stress sends Odin into a deep magical sleep. Loki is now acting king.Loki travels to Earth and lies to Thor, claiming Odin is dead and Thor can never return to Asgard. Thor tells Jane the truth about who he is — and she handles it shockingly well.We then learn it was Loki who secretly let the Frost Giants into Asgard earlier, setting everything in motion. Loki makes a deal with them: they can return to Asgard to kill Odin and reclaim the Casket, and in return they'll leave peacefully.Loki sends the Destroyer — a giant murder robot — to Earth to kill Thor. Thor helps evacuate civilians and then confronts the Destroyer, offering his life in exchange for the humans' safety while Loki watches from Asgard. The Destroyer responds by basically killing him.But Thor's selfless sacrifice proves he is worthy. His hammer flies out of the ground straight into his hand, restoring his powers and armor. Thor defeats the Destroyer and tries to return to Asgard, promising Jane he'll come back for her.Thor confronts Loki, and they battle on the Bifrost bridge. The bridge collapses, Odin saves Thor, and Loki — clinging to Odin's staff — finally lets go and falls into the void.Dead???All is well in Asgard, but not in Thor's heart, because he misses Jane. Don't worry though — she's got a new lab and is determined to find him again. In the post-credits scene, Erik Selvig is brought to a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility where Nick Fury reveals a mysterious glowing cube and asks Selvig to study it. We then see Loki secretly influencing Selvig's mind.Nothing ominous about that at all. Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? I'm back and ready to spit fire about the Fourensic Room's malicious attack on my channel. Are their wolves in sheep's clothing representing a campaign for Karen Read's harassed witnesses? Are these women who claim to to be empathetic, caring people bullying and silencing anyone who bruises their egoes? Also, Karen Read boasts about the rosary she was given by a friend made from rose petals stolen from the casket of murderered police officer John O'Keefe. Many of Read's non-supporters are quick to call it a lie? In this episode, Roberta explores why O'Keefe's accused killer could be telling the truth about her rosary and the friend alleged to have robbed John's coffin flowers in order to craft a rosary for John O'Keefe's killer.Get access to exclusive content & support the podcast by a Patron today! https://patreon.com/robertaglasstruecrimereportThrow a tip in the tip jar! https://buymeacoffee.com/robertaglassSupport Roberta by sending a donation via Venmo. https://venmo.com/robertaglassBecome a channel member for custom Emojis, first looks and exclusive streams here: https://youtube.com/@robertaglass/joinShow Notes:Innocence Fraud Watch "Gaslighting Fraudster Kate Peter (AKA Masshole Mafia AKA Mia Rose) Continues To Make Things Up As She Goes Including On Psycho Murderer Karen Read & Her Handmade Rosary Beads Souvenir. Let's go Gothick. Get your pitchfork. Get your burning brand. We're off to the castle to see the count. The Skeleton Count; or, The Vampire Mistress In the shadowed corridors of a remote castle, Count Rodolph has made a bargain that no mortal should contemplate. The price of eternal life is high, and the methods by which it is secured are terrible beyond imagining. When the corpse of the beautiful Bertha is carried from her grave to his study, something moves beneath the burial shroud. Eyes that had closed in death open once more, fixed upon the Count with a gaze both empty and aware. She will be his companion through the centuries—but what hungers might stir in one recalled from the tomb? What thoughts take root in a mind that has crossed the threshold between this world and the next? The villagers whisper of strange lights in the tower. A child is found pale and trembling in the night. And in the castle, two beings who should not exist learn what it means to be neither living nor dead. First published in 1828 in the English periodical The Casket, this early vampire tale predates both Carmilla and Dracula, exploring the dark territory between necromancy and vampirism. The story has been attributed to Elizabeth Caroline Grey, though both the authorship and original publication remain subjects of scholarly dispute. If the attribution holds, it represents the first vampire story written and published by a woman. Don't forget the radio station https://www.gravenheim.com Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of The Box of Oddities, Kat and Jethro Gilligan-Toth begin the new year by pulling apart something we all use but rarely question: the calendar. From Julius Caesar's ego-driven timekeeping decisions to the leap year, misplaced months, and how entire civilizations quietly agreed on when the year should begin, it's a surprisingly strange history of how humans try — and often fail — to organize time itself. But once the clock runs out, the episode takes a much darker turn. Jethro dives into the true story of the Memorial Mound in Bessemer, Alabama — an underground burial mausoleum inspired by ancient Roman catacombs and Indigenous burial traditions, designed to last for centuries. Instead, it became one of the most disturbing cases of abandonment in modern funeral history. After the site quietly closed, human remains were left behind for years. Caskets stacked like warehouse inventory. Bodies decomposing in sealed darkness. An infant among them. When urban explorers finally entered the structure in 2014, what they found triggered a federal investigation and raised troubling questions about oversight, neglect, and how easily the dead can be forgotten. Along the way, you'll hear:• The strange origins of month names and New Year's Day• How calendars slowly drifted out of reality• A “Thing in the Middle” packed with bizarre machine and technology facts• And a documented case of human remains abandoned inside an American mausoleum It's a story about time, memory, and what happens when systems fail — quietly, slowly, and out of sight. "Don't confuse sacrifice and discipline with suffering." Ryan Clark Where did the time go? 2025 is wrapping up as we get ready to embrace the new endeavors, challenges and our biggest pivots that lie ahead in 2026! Ryan, Channing and Fred close out the year reflecting on the past 12 months of sports' biggest stories, headlines that dominated our feeds and personal milestones we embraced. We take account of our own self growth, missteps and ways we want to be better going forward knowing that perfection is an illusion, discipline and sacrifice are required for success and we take deep dive into the chaotic sports world. FBI takes on sports gambling, Luka trade to Dallas, Micah Parsons to Green Bay, Kansas City misses post season, Travis Kelce, Shedeur Sanders frenzy and the fall of Sean Diddy Combs...2025 had it's share of the unexpected and we discuss the impact of it all while the guys keep it real on the current state of the NFL. Channing says how the AFC North isn't what it used to be, Ryan says DK Metcalf incident could cost the Steelers their season and Fred weighs in on the possible end of the Chiefs dynasty. Pivoting to family, we talk about the vulnerable sides of parenting, from walking the line between wanting the best for our kids to pushing them too hard and how in the end happiness is the only true measure of how it turns out. Avoiding to set goals isn't always a bad thing while giving ourselves grace to make mistakes is how we've learned best. We also have a little fun talking about some viral fun scenarios and how we would respond to a wife's last wishes of a "casket pass". Pivot Family thank you for all the support, all the comments, the likes and follows- being on this journey with us means the world and we look forward to bringing more impactful conversations, stories and authentic content in 2026- Happy New Year, may it be filled with good health, family, memories and happiness.
