Calvin feels he needs to be the “man of the house” and pay for everything. There's just one problem: He can't afford it. Every month he's in the red, leading him to be anxious around money. Chantha likes to spend money on nice things and feels Calvin is too cheap with his money. The two of them feel stuck because of their different views on money. And, to make things even more complicated, Calvin – by conventional definitions – is rich. He and Chanta bring in $250k a year, and based on their savings rate, they're on track to become multimillionaires. As you listen, notice their backgrounds. What led Calvin to feel this way about money? What motivates a husband to take on such a burden and how can Chantha and Calvin find a middle ground of comfort where they can build a future together? Pay particularly close attention to our discussion around vacation at the end of the episode. You know that including stories, especially personal stories, in your presentations is important to connect with and engage the audience. This is true whether you're giving a keynote, a business presentation, or a training. Along with integrating various stories and examples throughout your presentations, you can also have one core story that illustrates your topic and why it's important. This is what my guest Chanta Wilkinson and I have been working on during our coaching sessions as part of our Thought Leader Academy. Chanta provides trainings and workshops for organizations around diversity, equity, and inclusion, so we identified a story going back to when she was a young girl that perfectly illustrates why she has gravitated to this work and why DEI is so important. Even better, we've identified different angles she can use from this one core story, depending on who's in the audience and what she wants to emphasize. You are going to love Chanta's energy and passion for what she does! Enrollment for our Thought Leader Academy is opening again in September! Get the details and join our interest list at https://www.speakingyourbrand.com/academy/. About My Guest: Chanta Howard Wilkinson is the founder of Chanta Wilkinson Consulting, LLC, where she provides diversity, equity and inclusion consulting and assistance to organizations implementing diversity, equity and inclusion strategies and best practices. Chanta previously served as a Human Resources Consultant for small to mid-size businesses in Delaware and New York City. Prior to that, she served as the Associate Director of EEO/AA for Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. In addition, she also served as a Deputy Attorney General and an EEO/Affirmative Action Coordinator for the New Jersey Office of Attorney General and an Associate at a large New Jersey law firm. Chanta holds a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, a BA from Rutgers College, and a Diversity & Inclusion for HR Certificate from Cornell University. In this podcast, Juan Carlos Romero Ventura, from the Oploca community in Tupiza, Bolivia, speaks about the traditional “Jara” that used to take place between Oruro and Potosi. In this interview conducted in Cochabamba by Gladys Camacho, Juan Carlos explains how travellers in caravans undertook long journeys, camping along the way in different regions where they exchanged their products. He says that because of the diverse climate in Oruro and Potosi people grow different kinds of vegetables and grains. In Lipez and Uyuni where the wheather is very cold people plant potatoes and quinoa. The animals that live in these regions are the alpaca, llama, and vicuna. But in Tupiza where the weather is warmer, people plant maize, and they breed sheep and goats. During the winter, people form Lipez and Uyuni travelled to Tupiza with a caravan of llamas. This was an ancient tradition to transport food, salt, wool. But this tradition is disappearing little by little since Juan Carlos was a child and is performed less often now.

// Virgilio Panozo was born in the province of Aiquile, Cochabamba-Bolivia. He is a lecturer at the Quechua Casimiro Huanca Indigenous University in Chimoré. In this podcast he explains the Chakana festivity, also called “The Andean Cross.” The Chakana festivity existed long before the arrival of Spaniards, who blended this festival with another Christian one. Nowadays it is known as the “Santa Vera Cruz” festival. Before colonization, the Chakana was the cross that guided our ancestors, who could observe it from four angles: To want, to know, to do, to be able to.
