In this engaging conversation with Dr. Shanéa Thomas, a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in education, the discussion revolves around the question of whether we are doing enough to promote inclusion in schools. Dr. Thomas shares her personal journey and professional growth, highlighting the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in the rigid binary framework of educational settings. The conversation goes beyond identifying the problems and explores potential solutions. Dr. Thomas encourages us to challenge our preconceived notions and emphasises the importance of continuously updating our knowledge about sex and gender. She suggests using platforms like TikTok as a resource for education. Dr. Thomas underscores that training and open discussions about sex and gender benefit everyone and calls for greater recognition of trans and queer individuals in our communities. About this Episodes Guest: Dr Shanéa Thomas Dr. Shanéa Thomas, LICSW (He/She/Dr.) is a bold lecturer and seasoned scholar-practitioner with more than 18 years of professional social work experience in the Washington D.C. metro area. This is especially for those working in communities that are underserved and under-resourced, and those identifying as Black, Indigenous, people of color, and LGBTQ+ folks. Dr. Thomas has facilitated over 80 workshops centring on DEI needs, grief and loss, mental health, sex and gender, and LGBTQ+ populations. When creating organisational change through strategic planning, Dr. Thomas' work unapologetically centres marginalized voices with community organisations and healthcare institutions to help shift power, privilege, and organisational accountability. Dr. Thomas ended his 10-year position at the University of Southern California School of Social Work as a Senior Lecturer in 2022 to further the commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity through the University of Maryland School of Public Health as their new LGBTQ+ Training Specialist and Assistant Research Professor. Dr. Thomas is currently curating a national training program launching in May 2023 with the use of the Prevention Research Center's evidence-based tools to build LGBTQ+ competency in practice amongst mental health professionals.

Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast EP.165 - The Chiron Effect with Lisa Tahir, LCSW, Author, Thought Coach, Podcast Host of All Things Therapy Lisa Tahir, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, certified in EMDR Level I, in Reiki Level II, and a Thought Coach through the Institute for Transformational Thinking. Lisa Tahir, LCSW is the Author of The Chiron Effect - Healing Our Core Wounds through Astrology, Empathy, and Self-Forgiveness, endorsed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Lisa Tahir, LCSW is a Top Rated Therapist motivated and the Host of All Things Therapy Podcast. She has private practice office locations and residences in both Los Angeles and New Orleans, and she lives between both cities. NOLA Therapy offers Therapeutic Services ranging from Therapy Sessions, Reiki Healing Sessions, From a Distance Reiki Healing/Meditation Sessions, On-Location Therapy Sessions and also Learn the Psychoastrology of Chiron: 30-Day Psychoastrology Intensive. Lisa is passionate and committed to working with people to help them heal through all of the senses of the body by utilizing intuition, therapy, energy healing, meditation, Reiki healing, crystal healing, nutrition, sound frequencies, yoga, exercise, podcasting, writing and teaching. Lisa Tahir, LCSW, personally and professionally became frustrated with lengthy assessment and treatment processes that involved years of rehashing troubling and traumatic memories. Rehashing the past only produced feelings of disempowerment. With a desire to address her own core wounding, she sought alternative healing methods and turned to meditation. The Chiron Effect is a guide to using astrology to identify your core wounds and heal them using psychological techniques, affirmations, and self-compassion. The Chiron Effect offers a descriptive chapter for each of the 12 zodiac sign placements for Chiron, revealing how Chiron affects you psychologically, emotionally, sexually, spiritually, socially, financially, and intellectually. It provides specific steps for each sign to shift self-destructive patterns as well as powerful affirmations infused with Reiki Healing Energy. We have all experienced disappointment, sadness, rejection, or the loss of something meaningful in our lives. When you are wounded, innate animalistic instincts for self-protection kick in as a means for survival. These behaviour patterns are a natural and necessary copying strategy, at first. But many dwell far too long in these patterns and seperate themselves from their source of inner wisdom and intuition. Using astrology as a diagnostic tool, Lisa Tahir, LCSW reveals how to use the astrological placement of the minor planet Chiron in your birth chart to identify the core wounds and unconscious patters that block your capacity to have self-empathy and to forgive. Coining the phrase "Chiron Effect" to describe the magnetic pull that individuals have around specific areas of vulnerability, she explains how, like a raw nerve, the placement of Chiron describes what parts of our lives we might edit or hide for fear of being rejected as well as the areas of sensitivity where we are triggered. Yvette Le Blowitz Podcast Host sits down with Lisa Tahir, LCSW to find out about The Chiron Effect: Healing Our Core Wounds through Astrology, Empathy, and Self-Forgiveness. In Podcast Episode - EP.165 Lisa Tahir, LCSW shares: - a little bit about herself - insights into her book The Chiron Effect - what psychoastrology is - what her coined phrase "Chiron Effect" means - mental health tips to help support you after consuming war news - how we can cultivate peace from within - how to cultivate a mediation practice that only takes 5 minutes a day - how to set your intention for the day to welcome a good day - thoughts on international women's day - some of her self-care rituals Plus so much more... David's parents were told that he would never be able to advance professionally because of a lack of cognitive skills, recommending vocational school as an alternative. David proved those teachers wrong by obtaining his bachelors and Master of Social Work degree, along with many other certifications. David specializes in trauma including that of bullying, addiction, jail/prison diversion, sexual assault, sex trafficking, veteran care, LGBTQ issues, extreme anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. We discussed the topic of "white privileged" by defining it as a social systemic problem, requiring license professional social workers to provide community services. I coached David on identifying the two critical services (Social Coping & Administration) to help streamline the community offerings and raise funding. - Social Coping to help victims address historical and/or current abuse, which can hinder personal and professional advancement. - Administration to help victims navigate the system of available government and privatized resources they qualify to receive assistance. Lastly, we redefined the Mission Statement: "EBTS Mission is to help communities proactively address the signs and symptoms of behavioral issues within individuals and families to provide empowering intervention with WRAPAROUND CARE". Just days before leaving on his mission, this young man shares his experience in overcoming his years of addiction to pornography. He explains that having a pornography addiction is like climbing out of a mud pit. If there isn’t a hand there to pull you out, then you just sink back in. This young man discusses how the adversary led him to think that people would treat him with anger, but instead they treated him with love. His Stake President and Bishop reminded him how much Heavenly Father and the Savior loved him and that he was still a good person regardless of the addiction. His struggles really taught him about the power of the atonement and that God really knows us. The best form of recovery is prevention. If you are already stuck, then get help as soon as you can. KC discusses how smartphones and social media are damaging to our youth. He pleads with parents to be careful and to not just jump on the phone band wagon. KC recalls how sad it was to watch his friends become addicted to social media and also to pornography. Too many of our youth are given phones before they are mature enough to handle it. KC also discusses how growing up with two older brothers who overcame pornography addictions set an example for KC. KC shares how It is so important to talk to children about intimate relationships especially if they have been exposed to pornography because what they have seen is not true intimacy. KC also discusses overcoming troubles with being bullied during his school years. He learned not to care what others said about him. He learned to put others first and to develop a relationship with his Savior. KC is one of those who has learned to pray unceasingly and to trust in the Savior. The only one that defines him is a loving Savior. First Recorded Aug 21, 2018. For more recovery tools, resources & healing go to: LifeChangingServices.org | 1-877-HERO-877
The military teaches us that we need to always see what is going on and see where we are at in every circumstance. Being able to assess our surroundings gives us greater power to fight the adversary and to keep him off of our battlefield. This is key to winning battles. General Karlus talks about understanding where we are and what we are doing based on the plan of salvation. Understanding and focusing on the plan of salvation is what keeps him from falling into paths of darkness. It is so easy to slip onto the negative road of life. When we stray from our chosen path, it gives the adversary power and he uses his subtle lies to distance us from the Savior. The truth that Satan hides is that the Lord is able to change who we are becoming even during the worst times. The Lord is our support and He will make that difference for each of us if we learn to turn to Him for help. Who we are becoming spiritually is what will bring us our greatest joy. We can find happiness in our life now, even during the struggle. First Recorded June 16, 2017. For more recovery tools, resources & healing go to: LifeChangingServices.org | 1-877-HERO-877
Jason 24yrs has earned his Eagle Scout award from BSA program, is a returned Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the San Diego California Mission, married and is now a father to twin daughters. Has been through the fire and desires to provide hope and help to those who fight the same battles. At 10yrs old while on the computer he got curious, clicked on Pop-Up Ads and got "hooked." Jason teaches us how each one of us has different journeys in our lives and that our trials prepare us for our journeys. The lessons that we learn from our trials help us to then help others as they navigate their unique paths in life. Jason learned that it is more important to please God than to please others. God is always there and He knows us personally. Jason talks about coming to this realization and the struggle he had to put aside what others thought of him and to do the right thing regardless of the potential embarrassment. He was in the MTC for only 10 days and decided to confess to having an addiction to pornography, desired help to overcome this addiction and to repent, so he returned home. He came home to parents with open arms and leaders who were very loving and helped him move forward with his goal to become clean and return to serve, what he calls, "honorably." Jason has a testimony of being held up by a power greater than his own and how he knows he was being supported during his darkest hours. First Recorded Apr 27, 2017. Aaron was a Personal Warrior Trainer until leaving to serve a mission in CA for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and just left on July 17th, 2019, has not lost any battles for 2+ years. Loves football and basketball and the oldest of 8 kids, all of which were home schooled. Wanted to share his strength with others about how to overcome an addiction to masterbation and pornography. First exposed at a boy scout leadership training camp and his curiosity increased into an addiction that he could not control. He didn't have a device or smart phone and his family didn't have many devices at home either, so his addiction was fueled by access to books and he started hiding those kinds of books throughout the house. One of his books was found and brought to his attention by his dad and was grateful because he was trying to figure out how to stop on his own but realized he couldn't do it on his own so he was glad he got caught. Then after speaking with his dad about it, he was able to get help from his Bishop, whom he thought was easier to talk to than his dad. Was shy about talking to others at first but still willing to try the group setting from the Sons of Helaman Program, and there he found no shame but a strength. As he has been doing his MANPWR goals, winning battles over his bodily appetites and speaking about it, his confidence has increased and he has been able to feel the spirit more and the love of the Lord more and more in his life. Tools he uses to overcome his temptations are: a Battle Buddy who strengthens him, completes MANPWR Goals daily, reviews Captain's Log Questions & has a Personal Warrior Trainer who can hold him accountable. Sons of Helaman Program is built for teens to help teens overcome their addictions. We know you'll be a strength for good to those in CA Aaron! Karen Broadhead interviews Stephanie who shares what it's like to be a mother of a spiritual giant who struggled with an addiction to pornography at the age of 11. Her son's addiction started slow and then after several tries of meeting with local leaders and others who tried to help, Stephanie was out of ideas on how to help her son overcome this addiction. He started with feelings of isolation, separation from family and friends and then struggled with feelings of suicide. She and her husband were desperate to find anything that would help, her husband found an article of the Sons of Helaman program from LCS. Her son was skeptical but she was able to successfully "drag" her son there and for the first time he realized he was not alone, and was able to see that he was and still is a son of God, a spiritual giant.
