Service to others, he says, offers a reward of happiness you may not be expecting. Arbo, who has now been retired from his role as Lee's Summit City Manager for a year, entered The Vault this week for a conversation with host Nick Parker on his new life outside the bureaucracy and his dive into a role as community volunteer. Educating security researchers on the functionality of vehicle systems coupled with providing them with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working side by side with experts in this field is a plus for the attendees. Leveraging the vast amount of experience the security research community brings to the Village may increase the safety and security of vehicles on the road today and for generations to come. Breaches of automotive systems have been in the forefront of the global media for more than a year. Wired and wireless exploitation of vehicle systems has become a critical safety concern for the automotive industry, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Congress, the Department of Homeland Security, and consumers. When you call 911, you expect your call to be answered quickly. These days, it's often answered by the local volunteer fire department. Firefighters are responding to medical and police calls more often these days, especially when local emergency rooms are closed. Now, communities want their volunteers to be paid for answering calls that usually go to ambulance or police services. Mike Tiller is the mayor of New-Wes-Valley, and he's been rallying other towns for support on the issue. He spoke with the CBC's Leigh Anne Power.

Preaching for Ash Wednesday, Sr. Cora Marie Billings invites us to live each day of Lent intentionally: "We know the scriptures also tell us that today is the day of salvation. So today - each day of Lent - as I go through it, I will focus on one thing that day. And the scriptures say a lot about almsgiving. For me, almsgiving is giving every part of my body - my voice, my heart, my lips, my ears. So each day of Lent, I will focus on giving one blessing, one grace that God has given me for that day." Sister Cora Marie Billings has been a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas for 65 years. During that time she has been a Teacher, a Campus Minister and an Administrator. She is one of the Founding Members of the National Black Sisters' Conference. Since 1968 she has been an advocate for human rights and anti-racism. As such she has done presentations around the nation. At present she considers herself a Community Volunteer. Visit www.catholicwomenpreach.org/preaching/03022022 to learn more, to read Sr. Cora Marie's text, and for more preaching from Catholic women.

Cindi Jo Willey lives on Point Cabrillo Drive property that has been in her family since the 1870s, when her great great grandparents settled here from Portugal.Through the years, the property has seen many uses. In what was once an auto body and repair shop, Cindi Jo and her husband created her quilt studio, which contains two long arm sewing machines and other sewing equipment, fabric, thread and projects. In the early 2000s, Cindi Jo studied graphic arts at College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg, adding to her quilting skills. The next step was to apply her new education to the quilting business that seemed to be growing of its own accord. One of her accomplishments was to create a “sock monkey” quilt, based on the popular stuffed toy.Among her many other community activities, Cindi Jo contributed to a KZYX quilt which will be raffled later in the year to benefit the building fund. In a design pieced by Sallie Brown, using KZYX bandannas created by Willi Moore, Cindi Jo did the quilting.

This series is meant to share experiences of real people who have experienced racism and still experience it. The goal is to shine a light so that we ALL see it and take actionable steps to do something about it. •The Legacy: The Daughter of a Civil Rights Legend, the Granddaughter of a Change-Maker who was instrumental in Igniting a Movement. • A Mentor for the next generation of impressionable Young Ladies of Color and Young Black Men. • A Community Volunteer working with Nonprofits and causes which make a difference in our community and the world to bring awareness to our issues. • A Graduate of Florida State University, Current Big Bend, NW Florida Regional Board Member of the Florida State University Black Alumni, Inc. and the current National Scholarship Chairman. • A Business Owner of Favored Travel & Tours, LLC, a Full-Service Travel, Transportation and Event Planning Agency, specializing in "Anything, But...Ordinary! and a travel franchise, My Favored Vacations by Dream Vacations, where "Dreams Become Realized! The release of this latest episode, ‘Allsorts of Community’, coincides with LGBT+ History Month, and reflects on what it means to be part of a community. It begins with an insightful interview with Allsorts Training & Education Manager, Ben, who talks passionately about his work at Allsorts and his role as co-founder of the Brighton Kop, The Official Liverpool FC Supporters Club for Brighton and Sussex. Ben shares his experiences of being a gay man involved so closely in the football world. Having founded the Brighton Kop with his partner, inclusion has been central in facilitating a safe space for all Liverpool supporters in their community. Ben says, “Football is a sport I love...I chose to openly and proudly be gay and who I am. It has come with challenges, in the early days of setting up there were people who wanted to do it the ‘old way’. We were very firm and said it’s about inclusion. My sexual orientation was a way to make a stand and do it a different way.” This engaging interview is followed by a series of moving Q&As with Allsorts Young People. LGBT+ Youth Support Worker, Jo, who has supported the young people in creating ‘Allsorts of Thoughts’ since its launch in 2019, asks the young people if they feel part of any communities, and how those communities have been affected by COVID-19 lockdown. This thought-provoking and heart-warming episode of Allsorts of Thoughts is neatly rounded off with a touching reflection on community from Community Volunteer, Riley, and another ‘Felice’s Faves’ segment, reviewing LGBT+ media.
Joe chats to Jack Clifford about the great work he continues to do to help the community of Kilmallock and the new book he is writing about how covid affects communities See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I was delighted to discover in December 2020 that Neil Carleton of Almonte, Ontario, Canada remembers us. We remember him. We originally got in touch with him because of his fascination for stamps connected with radio and his spot on HCJB, Quito. He must have owned the world's more comprehensive collection. But he also used shortwave radio for teaching. Here are some links to his more recent work. RADIO IN THE CLASSROOM Making connections across the curriculum with shortwave listening and amateur radio was a grand adventure each year during my teaching career. Early one morning nine students, one each from kindergarten to grade 8, had their questions about space answered by the Commander of the International Space Station as the crew passed high overhead in orbit. COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER During my retirement years I've enjoyed volunteering with a variety of community organizations. Creative pursuits and amateur radio have also been special interests. We also talked to Fred Vobbe of the US National Radio Club in more detail about AM DXing in the winter months. And Lou Josephs has been reviewing the new book from "shock jock" Howard Stern.
