Meet Julia. She has built a community on IG based on her own experiences with grief. In a place where it all feels superficial, she makes sure to educate people and share resources with those who need it. Julia Morin is a writer and a grief specialist, educator and advocate, as well as the face behind the Instagram community @girl_meets_grief, which she launched over Mother's Day weekend in 2021. She is a childhood parent loss survivor whose mother died suddenly and tragically nearly 30 years ago, two months after she turned eight years old—and less than one week after Mother's Day —and she has experienced a number of other losses in her life.She is fiercely passionate about normalizing conversations and ending the stigma around grief, as she continues to navigate the various manifestations of this significant early loss. Passionate about work around mother loss and childhood loss, as a result of her lived experiences. On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Michèle Saint-Michel. Michèle Saint-Michel is an artist, filmmaker and author. Designed to promote healing, her genre-bending works encourage healthy coping and recovery from difficult experiences. Often incorporating pressed botanicals, preserved insects, seeds and leaves, her works examine the overlap between the environmental, the cultural, and the emotional, creating a conditional and reactive multi-temporal space where new futures can be imagined. Saint-Michel's films take influence from poetry filmmakers, experimental filmmakers and free jazz movements. Her moving image work and poetry films have been official selections by the Prismatic Ground Festival, Manchester International Film Festival, Cadence Poetry Film Festival and many others. Her installation films have been exhibited in galleries and digital arts festivals worldwide. She is the author of two books, a coloring book and three journals. After the heartfelt reception of ‘Grief is an Origami Swan', Michèle released the highly experimental poetry collection, ‘Saint Agatha Mother Redeemer', and the accompanying ‘Saint Agatha Mother Redeemer Coloring Book'. She has also released a set of journals based on the poetry of Walt Whitman. Saint-Michel's artistic journey has taken her from the rolling hills and river bluffs of Missouri to the bustling streets of London. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Saint-Michel's work is about creating a space where new futures can be imagined. Through her films, installations, and writing, she invites audiences to engage with their emotions and surroundings in a way that fosters healing and growth. On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Kevin Kilday. Kevin is an entrepreneur and Co-Founder of the recruitment firm, Bear Recruiting. Currently, Kevin lives in Delray Beach which is located in south Florida. Outside of running his business, Kevin enjoys all aspects of health and fitness and spending time relaxing at the beach. Kevin grew up in Northern Virginia and after high school, was recruited to play Division 1 basketball at Radford University in Virginia. Ultimately, he made the decision to not play basketball, but instead focus fully on his education. After graduating from Radford University with a degree in Marketing, Kevin began his career in sales. After a couple of years, he got into the medical sales field, where he enjoyed assisting doctors in helping their patients by providing better clinical outcomes. Eventually, he transitioned into a completely different industry to further develop his skillset and knowledge as a sales and business professional. In 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Kevin and a colleague by the name of Keith Lee, decided to partner up and launch their company. Today, Bear Recruiting primarily serves the healthcare industry, by partnering with companies to help them find and hire top medical sales talent of all levels. More recently, Kevin and Bear Recruiting began helping job seekers to market and brand themselves more effectively on LinkedIn, which is the largest online business networking platform. On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Angie Cartwright. Angie has experienced the pain of profound loss many times in her life starting with the loss of her baby sister when Angie was just a small child followed by the loss of her newlywed husband from a tragic car accident at the age of 21, and finally the devastating loss of her mother from an accidental overdose in 2010. Following these deeply personal experiences of loss, Angie found herself paralyzed with grief. Learning the hard way that grievers are often misunderstood, Angie decided to channel her grief into action and is now dedicated to raising awareness about bereavement and helping those experiencing grief to heal. Angie is committed to help change how our culture understands and views grief. Through a change.org petition asking President Biden to recognize August 30 as National Grief Awareness Day, Angie is doing her part to help end the stigma surrounding grief and help thousands of grievers find solid footing once again. By reaching out to thousands of grievers on social media for the past 20 years, she has found that healing can only take place when grief is not shamed, rushed or tabooed. Cara Belvin is a social entrepreneur known for her role as Founder and CEO of empowerHER, a nonprofit organization for children and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent.   Cara is an energetic and visionary leader and has expanded empowerHER from a local grassroots movement to an international nonprofit. Inspired by the loss of her own mother, Kit, at the age of 9, Cara formed empowerHER in 2013 to support and connect girls and young women who have experienced the loss of their mothers.   Today, the organization serves boys, girls and nonbinary youth in a non-therapeutic, community-based, volunteer-driven model with one mission, two programs—events and 1:1 mentorship. All programs are free of charge to the family and strive to help teach the girls that loss is survivable. Cara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and a Masters of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. Cara began her career as a School Psychologist working with children with disabilities and transitioned her career into nonprofit management and philanthropy. There are many ways to describe Amelia Green, but how she HOPES she is seen is as a light that reflects all the joy that life contains — in even the darkest moments. Through a lifetime of troubles and traumas, Amelia has found that her strength comes from every single triumph — no matter how small — that she experiences and finding the ability to truly see and appreciate the good in life. Amelia is a true believer that there is always SO much good…when you look. Even right here on The Power of Love Show, Amelia's journey of triumph & love can be evidenced over the last two years in her previous appearances. On her first appearance, she spoke of the intense love and joy her son, Alex, brought to a world that had trouble accepting and understanding his Nonverbal Autism and Epilepsy. When she lost Alex in March 2021, Amelia lost her world and her gravity — but found a voice, once again, on The Power of Love Show to share how the #AlexLevelJoy her boy brought to this world would never fade, nor would his memory. After losing her mom, Tina, in October 2022 Amelia again found herself searching for the joy and meaning in every day. On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Fabi Powell. Fabi Powell lost her Army Ranger husband, Josh, to Synovial Sarcoma cancer at 29 years old. She started the Josh Powell Foundation in his honor to help encourage newly diagnosed patients and fulfill the wishes of those running out of time. At 33, she started IVF to have her late husband's baby. Two years later, still no baby, but by the grace of God and an incredible team of doctors, she's still fighting for their dream. She shares her story to give others hope—reminding them that joy does coexist alongside unimaginable pain, and that it can, and will, exist for them too. She believes there is still beauty to be found in life after earth shattering loss; that there is extraordinary love on the other side of debilitating fear; and that impossible dreams can become reality with enough faith and resilience. On today's episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Jade Adgate. Jade Adgate is and has always been a caregiver, a nurturer, a helper and a wide-eyed companion to her elders. Serving her own aging family members alongside her growing babies, Jade developed a reverence for the bookends of the human experience, birth and death. This perspective forms the stance Jade brings into the work she now does as a death midwife: the belief that sacred, holistic and dignified death is a right every human being is entitled to. Jade has served as an active hospice volunteer since 2018 and as a death midwife since 2020. Farewell Fellowship was created in 2021 to expand the practice of contemplative death companionship to the wider Nashville community. An avid reader, Jade began The Farewell Library as a curated virtual home for her death and grief themed book reviews, the site of the virtual monthly death and grief book club and a death midwifery education platform. In 2023, Farewell Fellowship is expanding to include the Farewell Apothecary which will offer gifts and herbal support for people who are ill, dying, grieving and their caregivers. Becky Aud-Jennison is the creator of The Death Dialogues Project and podcast, and author of ‘Death and its Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Beautiful Lessons'. Becky had a lengthy career in human services, interfacing with death and dying over the past 40 years. It was the deaths of her soul-connect brother and mother within nine months of each other, and facilitating their in-home care and home vigils that lit a fire within her to improve death and grief fluency within our society. Doing this work, Becky now considers herself a therapist gone rogue as she reaches more folks than she was ever able to with her clinical work. Her book is receiving very positive feedback with people declaring it brings deep comfort for varying stages– from curiosity and fear surrounding death to its aftermath–and is frequently being used as a gift at those times there are no words. Our walks with death are unique and she believes we learn more from listening to others' stories than we do from generalized commentary on death, dying and the aftermath. The lack of safety and support is something we must learn to demand to fully heal from our many losses.” Author Marisa Renee Lee shows what it looks like to live a full and joyful life after experiencing a life-changing loss. In her book, Grief Is Love, she reveals that healing does not mean moving on—healing means learning to acknowledge and create space for your grief, forever. On this episode of The Power of Love Show with TJ & Taj Jackson we welcome special guests, Marlee Bunch & Kevin Hopkins! Marlee Bunch is a researcher & educator with over 16 years teaching experience. She holds two graduate degrees and is currently a doctoral candidate from the University of Illinois. She holds a teaching certificate, gifted education certification, and ESL certification. Her experiences teaching at the secondary and post-secondary level, have allowed her to write curriculum, supervise teachers, tutor, create workshops, and most importantly mentor and advocate for students. Her research focuses on the oral histories of Black female educators and communities.   Kevin Hopkins is a painter based in Kansas City, Missouri whose work explores the celebration of life and the awareness of his own mortality following the passing of an elder. Currently, he has focused his work on highlighting familial relationships through self-portraiture--or personas extracted from self-portraiture. Kevin now attends the Kansas City Art Institute majoring in Painting and Art History. He was recognized internationally as a 2021 Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grantee and nationally as a 2021 AXA Art Prize finalist. Both Marlee and Kevin have experienced loss and death, and experienced healing from mentors, relationships, education & art. Their collaborative work is centered on the premise of empathy, collaborative & created family, and Marlee's research of Black female educators pre and post integration in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. These women also experienced grief, racial trauma, and loss. However, their stories and Kevin and Marlee's story, illustrate how healing and joy can occur when we share stories and connect. Marlee and Kevin's collaboration represents the true nature of ancestry and the Black community. This collaboration is rooted in the desire to capture history, celebrate life and Black joy, bring visual representation to the oral histories of marginalized voices, and honor the maternal presence and mentorship present in this study and our own lives. Lindsay Fernandez is a Grief Educator, who is passionate about Mental Health and changing the way we as a society look at grief. Lindsay earned her master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Manhattan College, and is currently working on an autobiography entitled "A Lifetime with Death" which documents her childhood with her mom, who suffered with mental illness, and explores how she have navigated through life after her mother unexpectedly passed away in 2011.   Professionally, Lindsay has 7+ years of experience providing 1:1 and group supportive counseling services to individuals affected by Dementia-related illnesses, Cancer, Parkinson's disease, & COVID-19. Her work focuses on providing individuals with psycho-education, support, validation, and a community, which has allowed them to gain insight and a deeper understanding of their experiences. This understanding has allowed them to develop effective coping skills but also to feel more hopeful about life and the future. Lindsay's latest venture has been developing an online platform, (Life After Loss, LLC) where she help individuals that are currently struggling in their grief experience. It can be difficult to know how to cope with life after loss and her mission is to help people feel less isolated in their experience. She holds space and offers ritual for people at many of life's sacred thresholds, including birth, marriage, death and other transitional passages. Her work is often informed by her love of poetry, the gifts of healing rooted in nature and community and her commitment to expanding our grief literacy and death awareness. She is a founding member of Salt Trails, a Philadelphia collective making grief public and visible through community rituals. For many years, Naila worked as a journalist, interviewing prominent artists from all backgrounds. She found her way to the vocations of companioning others through grief and dying after suffering several personal losses in her own life, including the consecutive deaths of a beloved father figure and her father. She considers herself an ardent joy enthusiast and brings a compassionate presence and open heart to all she does. On this episode of The Power of Love Show with TJ and Taj Jackson we welcome special guest & President of Hope After Grief, Inc., Sydney Ford, Esq. Sydney Ford is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Public Relations, and a graduate of the Emory University School of Law where she obtained her juris doctorate degree. She has been a juvenile defense attorney for the past few years, and followed this path because of the number of grieving children involved in the juvenile justice system. Sydney's article on trauma-informed pre-trial diversion programs for our grieving youth in the juvenile justice system was selected for publication by the Northwestern Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology Online. She has also recently testified for the South Carolina Joint Committee on Children in favor of providing grief resources for children in South Carolina schools. Sydney wrote and published her own children's book, “Grief Came to Visit Today,” and launched a nonprofit organization called “Hope After Grief Inc.,” that provides scholarships to high school seniors who have had a parent or sibling die. Sydney lost her dad when she was 10 years old and became an advocate for grieving children at age 16 when she began going into elementary schools and talking to classes about the emotions associated with grief. Since that time, she has found ways to support grieving children by becoming a board member for the National Alliance for Children's Grief, becoming a buddy and ambassador for Kate's Club, and meeting with Senators and the South Carolina Superintendent of Education to advocate for our grieving youth. Dr. Pantelyat is a movement disorders neurologist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he directs the Johns Hopkins Atypical Parkinsonism Center and the Johns Hopkins Center for Music and Medicine. Dr. Pantelyat's work is focused on the discovery and validation of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for parkinsonian disorders and on music-based treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Pantelyat has been the primary investigator for: * DRUM-PD, a controlled study of West African Drum circle classes for Parkinson disease (significant improvements in quality of life were found after 6 weeks of drumming); * Parkinsonics, a controlled randomized crossover study of choir singing vs support group attendance for Parkinson disease (objective voice loudness and motor improvements were found); * Guitar-PD, a randomized delayed-start study of group guitar classes in Parkinson disease (significant improvements in anxiety and mood were noted at the end of study interventions), * and DRUM-PD/HD, a pilot parallel group study of side by side drumming for patients with Parkinson disease and Huntington disease as well as their care partners. Lori has a degree in Social Work and created a not-for-profit hiking program called ‘Through Hiking' along with her husband to offer guided hikes to agencies and youth in foster care. She serves on the Equity Committee for Rockingham County Public Schools and also sits on the Board of Directors for RISE Foundation in Waynesboro, VA where she is committed to education, political action, and racial justice work. Although she is not originally from Virginia, Lori feels the most at home where she lives in the Shenandoah Valley with her husband and son. On this episode of The Power of Love Show with TJ and Taj Jackson we welcome special guest, David Richman. After working in a variety of industries–including launching two start-ups–David Richman entered the financial industry as an advisor. Several years in, he found that his interests were more in managing people and businesses than in managing money. Among other pursuits, David now works with a nationally-recognized financial services firm committed to keeping the advisor in the forefront. Over the last 10 years, David has completed over 50 triathlons, including 15 Ironman-distance triathlons, more than 50 runs longer than marathon distance, including several 24-hour runs, running 85 miles in Mexico in the heat of the summer, running 104 miles straight from Santa Barbara to Manhattan Beach, and most recently biking 4,700-miles in just six weeks as he met with the participants of his upcoming book exploring the emotional side of cancer. As a former sedentary, over-weight, smoker, David knew that he needed to focus not on what others wanted out of him, but on what he wanted out of life. Through lessons learned in business and sport, David introduces the concept of the “middle of the pack” and discusses how to get more out of ourselves than ever imagined. He applies this concept to life and business and adds value to the people he works with coming from the perspective of the “middle of the pack.” David was born in Miami and raised mostly in the Los Angeles area. He and his wife split their time between homes in Southern California and Southern Nevada. He has worked in real estate, lending, construction, started both an animation company and a skin care company, and then went into financial services. He has college-aged twins who are as aspirational as their father. After losing his sister to brain cancer, David has organized a yearly fundraiser in her memory, the most recent being the impetus for his upcoming book, “Cycle of Lives – 15 People's Stories, 5,000 Miles, and a Journey Through the Emotional Chaos of Cancer”. On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome Certified Movement Professional & Founder of ‘Inspired To Move' and ‘@MovingThroughGrief', Ashley Farrar. Ashley is a neurodivergent mom of three, a nature lover, and a voracious reader. Ashley fell in love with moving when she was young, because even as a child, she says, the movement of her body and mind made everything feel better. It changed her. It built resiliency. As she got older, she drifted into who she thought the world expected her to be. She went to the school, got the job, and slowly lost the connection to herself that movement had always fostered. Ashley had been living with chronic pain for over ten years when her world fell apart. Her mother and uncle were killed in a car accident, followed by the sudden death of her father two years later. The constant physical and emotional pain was unbearable. Ashley's grief journey forced her to re-connect with her needs. She began relying heavily on movement and meditation as tools of healing and self-connection. By doing so, she learned that she could trust her inner voice, and that she had the courage to meet her own needs, despite the expectations of others. As a Certified Movement Professional, Ashley strives to create spaces where her clients can show up boldly and unapologetically.  Ashley aims for her clients to have a movement toolbox filled with strategies that guide them towards finding their ‘just-right' challenge, so that they can change movement to work for them, instead of the other way around. In her work, Ashley creates experiences that foster curiosity, connection, and compassion and allow grievers and other feeling people to be (im)perfectly human together.
