Hey guys! We hit episode 10! In this episode, I spoke to Elimar Depaula and she opened up about some obstacles that occurred in her life, business, having the discipline and so much MORE! She is 20 years old and the owner of Queen Cosmetics.  She always loved makeup but never saw a way to make money until about a year ago she was in a tragic accident that injured her spine and left her paralyzed. She had to learn to live life differently but everything that happened helped to redirect her mind into finally launching her cosmetics brand. With over 200k+ followers and supporters on TikTok she shares her story and inspires many. Last year she was also mentioned on @Shopify for one of the best business launches of 2020

This is an exciting time for the podcast for several reasons, at least one of which is that WE HAVE A NEW NAME! Yes, this has happened before. Oh yes, AfterPartyPod, Recover Girl, Light Hustler, Struggle to Success and some names I'm forgetting were used at some point. But this is the one we're sticking with and I'm not just saying that!   So why this change? Well, in this episode, I explain that since the show was becoming increasingly about how to build your brand with a book, it seemed only right to have a podcast name that reflected it. And now we've got it!   I couldn't have asked for a better guest for this pivot, since she's not only a brand builder extraordinaire but also a friend whose book I feel privileged to be able to publish.   Katie DePaula is an author, speaker, entrepreneur and the founder of Inner Glow Circle, a company dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs find their glow and live purpose-driven lives.   But most relevantly for our show, she is the author of At Least You Look Good: How to Glow Through What You Go Through, the latest release from Launch Pad Publishing. Takeaways:  Are you putting your needs on the backburner for someone or something else? Do an honest self assessment. Whether it's in a relationship, with work, or some other situation in life it's good to know. The key to self love is putting your own needs first. If you're not used to this, it might take some time to figure out. That's fine. Take the time!  Every break up or heartbreak is a form of ego death. To truly heal a new person must emerge from what was. This is maybe why heartbreak is so painful, because part of yourself must die to make way for something new.  Love might look and feel different as you evolve and grow. You might look back on a relationship and realize that what you thought was love is not how you understand love now. In fact, it might have been very toxic. Honor the love you had at the time, but know what type of love you're looking for now.  Communication is key and it's not just with words. Words can help articulate, but often actions can be even more important. Aligning your words with your actions is a great way to build trust. A warning sign of toxicity is when a person is not listening to your needs. You state what your wants, needs, or desires and that person doesn't respect them. In some way a person like this may try to encroach on your time or space that you've put a boundary on. Or you may simply sense that a person is trying to manipulate you in some way. Use this as a guidepost or develop your own strategies for identifying toxicity so you don't bring it into your intimate circles. Just because someone is going through something difficult doesn't give them permission to hurt you. Being compassionate, tolerant, and forgiving is ok, but they have no right to hurt you. In cases like these you may want to consider putting up a boundary.  If you've never set a boundary with another person before it might feel really uncomfortable to do so. Like anything it gets easier with practice.  Sometimes no amount of communication is going to save something. In some situations you might discover that it's not possible to work something out because a choice has already been made, a reality has already been chosen. Either by your partner or yourself. Working on it isn't gonna won't work and it's not your place to change that person's mind. So even though it might be painful, moving on might be the best course of action.  With a breakup you might loose friends along with your partner. This may be an extension of what Lily calls an “ego death”. But you have to ask yourself, “were they really my friend to begin with?” If they couldn't stay around for some of the most difficult times of your life, they may not be a true friend.  One way to look at heartbreak is that your heart is actually ready to give and receive more love. However, the situation you're in might be limiting that potential. Your heart breaks because it has to open up in order to be ready for new potential. Part of that process will definitely be experienced as pain if you're strongly attached to a certain situation.  Often times we will keep encountering the same type of partner, the same type of love, the same type of relationship until we do something to change how that shows up for us. Setting boundaries for what you know doesn't work for you is a great way to start changing these patterns. It's a great way to tap into self love too. Remember to put your needs first, especially when starting something new.  What is a Leo? Lily and I share the same birthday and naturally the same astrological sign. In the podcast today I interview two gods of crossfit, Blake Bender & Eric DePaula, owners of Crossfit Society in Solana Beach, CA.  If you've listened to any other of my podcasts you probably already know that I love crossfit (and not just because it's another excuse to wear tank-tops).  In fact, one of the single greatest changes in my life this past past year has been crossfit. I love it so I asked Eric and Blake to come on the show and tell you all about it.   In this episode you'll learn about the biggest benefits of crossfit (probably not what you think). Blake & Eric also dispel some common myths of crossfit and talk about their unique approach to crossfit coaching.  I've been going for over a year and I can honestly say I've never been stronger and have never gotten injured, largely due to their coaching.    Eric & Blake have been friends since they were 5 years old so interviewing them was a lot of fun.  They're genuinely good guys and they even helped me pronounce “militaristic” during the show since I forgot how to talk for a minute:)   So check it out to hear who swore first (wasn't me for once), who Eric's childhood sports hero was (complete surprise) and who got them both into crossfit first.   Some of the questions I asked them Why did you start a crossfit gym? A total of nine teams doing 3 different events.  At the end, I was completely exhausted but stoked to have been able to finish. I cut off Eric about 100 times because I was pretty enthused about what were talking about.  He's too nice of a guy to say anything about it so I'm apologizing here.
