This week we're looking at the representation of disabled people in politics. Why are there so few disabled politicians? What impact does that have? And what can be done to level the playing field? While one in five people in the UK is disabled, the proportion of disabled individuals among elected representatives is significantly lower. Despite broader discussions on inclusive politics, disability remains an often-overlooked aspect of the conversation. For many people working in this area, addressing such challenges isn't just about fairness; it's also about ensuring that disabled citizens have their voices heard in political decision-making. A new book addressing these challenges was published last year, and a recent article in The Political Quarterly highlights its key themes. The book and article explore the structural barriers that disabled candidates and politicians face and provide actionable recommendations for change. In this episode, we speak with the co-authors of both the book and the article: Prof Elizabeth Evans – Professor of Politics at the University of Southampton. Dr Stefanie Reher – Reader in Political Science at the University of Strathclyde. Join us as we discuss the systemic obstacles, potential solutions, and the importance of disability-inclusive politics. Mentioned in this episode: Stefanie Reher and Elizabeth Evans. Have you ever had a moment where the Lord undeniably and unexpectedly brings someone in your life that you know will change it forever? That happened to me a little over a year ago with my sweet friend, Elizabeth Evans.   Elizabeth is the reason Honey For Your Heart exists. She is our producer and has been with us from the start, paving the way to what you are enjoying today. As the producer, Elizabeth normally stays behind the scenes, but today I am SO thrilled to have her join me on the other side of the mic.   Elizabeth is one of those people who you feel instantly connected with. Her love for the Lord is written all over every interaction you have with her and He is using her in BIG ways to make a difference for His kingdom.   Her story is one of difficult seasons, miraculous interventions, bold life changes and often scary decisions requiring radical faith and obedience. But through it all, there is a common thread: God is trustworthy, faithful and is constantly redeeming and restoring, not wasting a single second of our stories.   As you hear Elizabeth share her amazing journey today, I know that, like me, you will encounter a good Father who is personal and intentional with His children, never leaving them alone and always working for their good.   Perhaps you know this but need a sweet reminder today. Elizabeth's story will be like honey for your soul as you remember God's faithfulness in your own life as she shares about His faithfulness in hers. Or maybe you doubt if God is good and can be trusted. Maybe He seems distant and anything but good. If that is you today, our prayer is that through Elizabeth's story, you will meet a God who knows you perfectly, loves you intimately and can be trusted to tenderly hold every doubt, every fear, every decision, every emotion, every question, every bit of shame you may feel and cover them with his unending mercy and grace as you surrender in obedience to Him. So grab a cup of coffee and allow the Lord to meet you right where you are as you listen to Elizabeth's story.   Follow Elizabeth here: https://www.instagram.com/elizabethevans.co/ Learn more here: www.elizabethevans.co

The greater the value of space, the greater the risks. The rise of the space economy is accelerating the business, operational and human risks. Are we prepared to handle them? The Safe Space podcast series – part of the Reducing the Risks of Space campaign – will explore policy, law, technology and operations in development now to manage the challenging space environment of the future. The first episode features a conversation between Elizabeth Evans, Partner at K&L Gates – who joins us to speak about the Space Shuttle Children's Trust Fund – and Kathryn Lueders, Former Associate Administrator for Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate at NASA (now retired) and a member of the Space & Satellite Hall of Fame. Elizabeth Evans is a partner at the New York office of K&L Gates. She is a member of the asset and corporate finance practice group and heads the airfinance practice in the Americas. She concentrates her practice in structured asset-based finance, and focuses on aviation finance (both fixed wing and rotary), satellite finance, transportation finance, and project finance. She also engages in related transactional, regulatory and policy work for aviation, aerospace and space industries. Her practice includes private placements of debt and equity, leveraged equipment leasing and all aspects of the law relating to outer space (both domestic and international). Prior to joining the firm, Elizabeth served as a partner in the financial institutions group at an international law firm, where she focused her practice on aviation and other asset-based finance, (including satellite, railcars, trucks and heavy equipment finance transactions), as well as space law policy work. Elizabeth has represented banks, financial institutions, credit capital corporations, private equity investors, governmental agencies, export credit agencies and leasing companies in complex structured financings, including air traffic control system financings, airport and terminal development projects and aviation, rail car and truck financings. She has spent many years working on restructurings (both in court and out-of-court) during economic downturns. She has done both debtor side and lender/lessor side work in numerous aviation restructurings, and has represented private equity funds in the purchase of distressed equity positions in equipment finance. She helped arrange and conduct unique foreclosures and auctions of satellites orbiting in space. She has also played an instrumental role in drafting legislation relating to the laws of outer space. For nearly thirty years, Kathryn Lueders has played an indispensable role in bringing the capabilities of the commercial space and satellite industry to NASA; serving human space exploration missions though new technology, practices of cost savings, and opening valuable opportunities for the industry. Kathryn began her career at NASA in 1992 as the Shuttle Orbital Maneuvering System and Reaction Control Systems Depot Manager for the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico, after completing two Bachelor's degrees in Science and Business Administration and a Masters of Science degree. Kathy moved to the International Space Station (ISS) Program next and served in a variety of managerial roles covering space station Logistics and Maintenance, Vehicle Systems Integration and Commercial Orbital Transportation Services Integration. In November 2007, Kathryn became responsible for expanding the range of launch vehicles providing access to the International Space Station. She established the Program's Transportation Integration where she oversaw international partner vehicles, including the European Space Agency's Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), the Japanese Space Agency's H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV), and the Russian Soyuz and Progress spacecraft. In that role, she also managed the development and execution of the Commercial Resupply services contracts which began delivery of cargo to the ISS in 2012 and now have now delivered over 100,000 lbs of cargo to the International Space Station. She was inducted into the Space & Satellite Hall of Fame in 2021.

Our 5 friends love all things knowledge and facts which can make them often seem aloof and disengaged. In this episode, Elizabeth offers up her unique perspective that answers the question "what's actually going on in a 5's inner world?"  We cover so much more in this episode from the difficulties of 2021 and what being in a 7 state of stress might be like to the amazing advantages that being a 5 brings. MEET ELIZABETH:Your story is meaningful. Elizabeth helps make it impactful. Podcast producer and founder of Elizabeth Evans Co - Elizabeth is on a mission to create a fleet of compelling storytellers. Her 360 boutique podcast studio helps creatives strategically build their show from conception to launch. Her uniquely created podcast methodology has helped world-renowned artists, best-selling authors, award-winning musicians, and impactful influencers to create transformative podcasts full of timeless, quality conversations that empower listeners into extraordinary action.Being well-versed in the Enneagram herself, Elizabeth is a type 5 that previously deeply wrestled with a scarcity mindset that kept her wrapped up in her mind, but never actually taking action. She has a powerful story of how she flipped the script of her fear around, never feeling fully competent, and stepped into a mindset that led her to become a successful, female, business owner. She has learned how to use her perceptiveness to dive deeply and intimately with her clients to uncover the impactful nuances of their own stories. She believes that everyone's story is meaningful, but it takes skill to make it impactful- and that is her sweet spot. Living by the mantra of "sometimes what you are created for has not yet been created" Elizabeth turned down a job with the CIA, moved to Nashville, and opened a very successful podcasting agency. On this episode, Ariel is joined by Elizabeth Evans, the manager of The Lover Store, who tells intriguing and spicy stories and gives advice to women on sexual wellness. TRIGGER ALERT: We will be discussing sexuality in a clear and direct way, so this episode is not safe for work or appropriate for young children. National Sex Toy Day is in early November annually. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lovers offers a very open-minded place, a safe place where people can come and ask the questions, that they’re embarrassed to talk to the doctor with or even their best friends. We’re that friend to help you feel organic in your own body and have fun. The questions I want to be asked is: “What would be best for this sensation? I’m looking for just clitoral, just G-spot.” Usually, people are really embarrassed when they walk in, so we definitely work harder to make them feel more comfortable before they ask questions. The Womanizer is the toy I think every woman should have because, once people start using vibrations and having a really strong touch down there, they think that’s what they need in order to get off. No! You actually need to care for the area, care for yourself. Strong vibrations desensitise the area. You don’t have to go for hard plastic anymore. Plastic, battery operated vibrators are the worst things known to man! Always go rechargeable and soft latex. You can even use them in the tub, or in the shower, or on the couch watching Friends! If your toy is silicone, don’t use silicone lube, use water-based or hybrid lube or you’ll trash your toy. BEST MOMENTS ‘Two weeks ago, I had a woman come in and say: “you told me all about the Womanizer, and I doubted you for a minute, but I took it home and tried it and told my neighbour about it and my sister!”’ ‘You feel sexier and more self-confident when you learn to pleasure yourself.’ ‘Sexual care and pleasing yourself is a great way to get to know yourself’ ‘Go into your local Lovers and ask questions, we’re there and trained to answer all your questions.’ ABOUT THE GUEST Elizabeth Evans is the manager of a Lovers Store in Washington State. She regularly coaches clients in selection of appropriate tools, oils and products that assist with sexual wellness and self-care. Socials: If you want to reach Elizabeth, call the Lovers store at the Rosehill/ Kirkland location at (425) 803-9080. www.loversstores.com ABOUT THE HOST Ariel is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, Empath and Psychic who has been involved in holistic healing since 1988. Welcome to our final episode of the first season of Small Business Big Heart! I seriously cannot believe we made it here, and just want to say THANK YOU, thank you, thank you for listening and helping me honor these incredible stories. Today's episode was so much fun to record, and I'm excited for you to meet the woman that really made this entire podcast possible. Elizabeth Evans is a renowned producer here in Nashville, and she's helped podcasters like Jordan Lee Dooley, Living with Landyn (and yours truly!) get their shows off the ground. When I say I couldn't have started Small Business Big Heart without her, that is the understatement of the year! We connected on a heart level right away, and her encouragement (and skills) got me to take the leap toward this big scary dream. Throughout this season, I've been asked more and more about my personal journey to entrepreneurship and I knew Elizabeth was the perfect person to interview me as I share my story. In today's episode, I step into the hot seat and talk about how I went from full-time employee to full-time CEO in a (crazy!) year. I share how accidentally quitting my 9 to 5 during a staff meeting revealed my WHY and led me into a business I had in my heart all along. We talk about boundaries and why filling your cup is the antidote to burnout. I also walk you through three big secrets I learned about starting a new business successfully. I mean, we really covered it all! I loved chatting with Elizabeth, and this episode is a celebration of all I've learned this year and all the people who made this moment possible! So let's get to it! Here's my personal interview alongside podcast producer, Elizabeth Evans. Lauren Oliver, the New York Times bestselling author of the Delirium trilogy, Before I Fall, and Panic, discusses her new novel ROOMS with @HarperAudio_US producer Caitlin Garing. This episode also includes an excerpt from the audio edition which is performed by Orlagh Cassidy, Barbara Caruso, Elizabeth Evans, Noah Galvin, and Cynthia Darlow. ABOUT ROOMS After a number of highly acclaimed New York Times bestsellers, including the Delirium trilogy and the standalone novels Before I Fall and Panic, Lauren Oliver returns with a spellbinding tale that confirms her place as one of our finest storytellers. Fueled by the same inspired feel for plot and character that drew readers to Oliver's earlier works, Rooms is a mesmerizing and suspenseful story of guilt, love, and family secrets. Estranged patriarch Richard Walker has died, leaving behind a country house full of rooms packed with the detritus of a lifetime. His alienated family—bitter ex-wife Caroline, troubled teenage son Trenton, and unforgiving daughter Minna—have arrived for their inheritance. But the Walkers are not alone. Alice and Sandra, two long-dead and restless ghosts, linger within the house's claustrophobic walls, bound eternally to its physical structure. Jostling for space and memory, they observe the family, trading barbs and reminiscences about their past lives. Though their voices cannot be heard, Alice and Sandra speak through the house itself—in the hiss of the radiator, a creak in the stairs, the dimming of a lightbulb. The living and dead are haunted by painful truths that surface with explosive force. When a new ghost appears, and Trenton begins to communicate with her, the spirit and human worlds collide—with cataclysmic results. Elegantly constructed and brilliantly paced, Rooms is an enticing and imaginative ghost story and a searing family drama that is as haunting as it is resonant.

Today's Guest I originally "met" today's guest, Helen Elizabeth Evans, on a webinar that was scheduled as an online Meetup as part of the London Coaches Meetup Group. While I was simultaneously fascinated and skeptical about the whole concept of handprint analysis, I signed up for her Discover Your Life Purpose workshop. She mailed me a kit to take my handprints, and from that she did a reading of my hands. In the workshop, she covered the different details that are found in our hands that make up our life purpose. The results were so accurate. She highlighted as my growth opportunities or challenges the exact same issues I had been focusing on in my personal development work this year. What I love about Helen's work is that she works a lot with women in business, using the details found in their hands to help them make the right business decisions for them. Helen is the UK’s premier life purpose fingerprint analyst, and Your Signature Brilliance Decoder. Her passion is to get the world to stop seeing themselves through the limits imposed by their experiences and conditioning, to both, see and live according to the true spirit that lies within them. Doing so empowers individuals to fulfil their dreams, entrepreneurial, spiritual and personal… to be paid for what they love to do, to live and work in spaces that make them feel good and to take care of themselves and their well-being. She uses the pragmatism of her African upbringing and the deep intuition of her Celtic roots to guide her clients into the lives they were born to live. What You'll Learn How scientific handprint analysis differs from palmistry What type of information is stored in your hands How getting your handprints analyzed can help you with your business Inspiring Women in Business Baeth Davis Connect With Helen Facebook LinkedIn G+ Twitter
