Today we're quickly paying our respects to Enrique Hernandez who has left the Dodgers after 7 seasons and a championship. And, of course, we're digging into the offseason hot stove. Justin Turner still hasn't re-signed with LA. Trevor Bauer has been linked in free agency. And a bullpen candidate signed with another team. So what comes next this winter? Well, looking at the calendar, there is still a lot of time for Andrew Friedman to work his magic. Next, we examine the latest debacle facing MLB and the Players Association as the league holds the universal DH hostage over the union for money... in so many words. Plus we remember two more baseball legends lost in 2021. Enter to win the giveaway with our friends at Elite Sports Collectables! More details on our Instagram page. Learn more about your ad choices. We're halfway through December and things still are whisper quiet around the Dodgers and the hot stove. At least until Ken Rosenthal got bored. The baseball insider made not one but two big waves last week when he predicted Trevor Bauer to LA and went off the deep end with hypothetical transactions. Back in the real world, the Dodgers made actual moves when they used flashback Friday to bring back some familiar names including reliever Brandon Morrow. Once again the guys wonder if that will be the end of spending for the bullpen or if they should put faith in the other big rumor linking LA to Liam Hendricks. To celebrate the end of the year, we put together our biggest giveaway yet with our friends at Elite Sports Collectables on Instagram! Next week we'll be choosing three winners for a prize pack made up of two signed baseballs and a limited edition World Series bat! Eight Dodger relievers combined to give up just 1 run on four hits as LA’s bullpen rebounded from Kenley Jansen’s implosion the night before. The Dodgers offense erupted for 8 runs thanks in large part to home runs from A.J. Pollock, Enrique Hernandez, Mookie Betts, and Chris Taylor. In this episode you'll hear from Pablo Zitzmann, Susana Jiménez and Enrique Hernández. The first two deal in food and the third is in the tire business, but you'll there's value in what they all have to share about their coronavirus experiences. Pablo is Colombian-born chef who won Miami diners' hearts with No Name Chinese in South Miami. He was also was one of the very first guests on this podcast. If you want to get to know him a little better beyond this COVID thing, listen to Mike's conversation with Pablo, which we ran in July 2019. In this episode's call, Pablo and Nick Jiménez spoke about an executive chef position he had just started and lost as a result of the economic shutdown, along with the project he's taken on from his home kitchen to make ends meet as we crawl toward a new normal — whatever that is. Next, Susana Jiménez, a food scientist who is not only Nick's sister, but — more importantly — the reason we can claim that Salina, Kansas is the home of our biggest listenership per capita. Susana works at Schwan's Salina facility to develop new products, especially frozen pizzas. Finally, Enrique Hernandez, who is the operations manager at Tire Group International, a Miami-based tire distributor. We talked about how his industry has responded to the coronavirus, how the pandemic is affecting industry trends, and what he expects to happen in terms of consumer behavior. Even if you're all about food industry content, this is worth listening to. Tires, after all, are an inescapable cost built into the food supply chain, whether we're talking about tractor tires, wholesale trucks or delivery to the end consumer.
We are not prone to overreaction on this Podcast, but perhaps some of these Opening Day performances are worth a big reaction. We start out with the Double Dongers (2:15) as we debate Tim Beckham vs. Enrique Hernandez, Joc Pederson's value and if we were too low on Javier Baez. And were there any must-add players from Thursday's games (11:50)? How about Jordan Zimmermann? ... Bad aces (16:50)! Chris Sale, Zack Greinke, Miles Mikolas and Blake Snell got roughed up. What does it mean? Also: Good aces, bullpen notes (28:23), steals sources (38:30) and this year's potential breakout SPs (40:40) ... We wonder if Hyun-Jin Ryu, Madison Bumgarner, Marcus Stroman and Kyle Freeland are studs (45:25) and we talk about much more from yesterday and look ahead to Week 2 (57:30) ... For the first time since 1988, the Dodgers are headed to the World Series. They entered the game on Thursday night wanting to end the season for the Cubs and they did just that. Los Angeles clinched the NLCS in Game 5 with an 11-1 statement win against Chicago at Wrigley Field. Enrique Hernandez led the offense for the Dodgers hitting his first career postseason home run in the second inning. He didn't stop there, adding a grand slam in the third that put the Dodgers in the driver's seat with a seven-run lead. Once more for good measure, Hernandez hit the third one out in the top of the ninth to carry the team back to Dodger's Stadium to take on Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday. Hernandez set a Dodgers' postseason record with his three homers and seven RBIs. http://adrewdixonfoundertion.org http://slayhairstudios.com http://piperdavisbaseball.org
