The last traces of blue have given way to a black, black sky, and a chill wind whistles down the narrow alleyway you've taken as a shortcut and are starting to wish you hadn't. Was that the dry rustle of dead leaves under your feet, or something else? It's pitch black, no moon, no stars, but you can just make out marks on the walls either side of you - marks which look like words, or furious scratches. A sound behind you makes you turn, and for just a moment you see the shape of something behind you, something which wants nothing more than to follow. It is old, and it is bored, and it has teeth...The signs are unmistakable: it's Three Ravens Haunting Season, and in this episode we're journeying into ghostly dreams - and nightmares! In this installment of the miniseries, Eleanor stands over Martin with a syringe, saying it'll all get better soon...As with last week, our opening pair of tales are both winning entries to this year's Three Ravens Ghost Story Writing Competition. The first comes from Erin Edwards, whose story "An Old Love" tells of a rare thing - a positive haunting - and the second comes from Dominic Bailey, whose story "The Warrior's Watch" fuses historical re-enactment with ancient horror, to deeply unsettling effect!Lastly, Eleanor shares her second new ghost story for Haunting Season 2024, "The Millennium Centre." A contemporary tale, it mixes influenza with Doomsday Cults, ghosts, and the dread of poverty, and might make you think twice about examining that shadow in the corner of your room. We'll be back on Thursday with a new Dying Arts bonus episode about Taxidermy, so speak to you again then! The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays (Magic and Medicines about folk remedies and arcane spells, Three Ravens Bestiary about cryptids and mythical creatures, Dying Arts about endangered heritage crafts, and Something Wicked about folkloric true crime from across history) plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Erin has worked extensively in the structural, wildland, technical rescue, air crash rescue, hazmat, and medical realms of the fire service. She currently holds the rank of platoon captain in her fire department where she leads a platoon of amazing firefighters. Erin also holds her Certified Risk Managers designation and has worked in the government sector of risk management for 6 years as an analyst and then risk manager. Her education includes a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with an undergraduate certificate in counterintelligence as well as a master's certificate in intelligence studies. In her spare time Erin wrote and self-published a book called "This Is Not A Sports Book" as a no holds barred, tongue in cheek, short, coffee table read born from the many questions she received over the years from her guy friends and fellow firefighters regarding the nuances of women. Erin believes in always learning something new as well as finding places and things in the world to experience and enjoy. Today, we talk with Erin Edwards and Alex Martin from Flote.app about the importance of decentralized social media and freedom of speech. They will also share some up and coming things about Flote. Reminder: LFTN Spring Workshop Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am Central! Sunday at 8pm: Live with Toolman Tim to discuss getting started with real estate Youtube: https://youtu.be/W-tIpCE4SEk flote.app/user/ToolmanTim/live Pete Quinones Show Show Resources Flote Social Network: Flote.app Main content of the show Freedom of speech is important because if we do not discuss all of our ideas and learn from one another, we never progress. Further, it is immoral to force silence on another person simply because they say things you do not like. Over the past decade, the social media giants have slowly shown that they have no regard for individual rights and have used their large reach to control the social narrative. They silence, bully and erase people after those people have invested time and resources to build followings and businesses using the tools that the big social media giants provide. Erin and Kinglsey Edwards have been fed up with this for a long time. Rather than sit around and complain about it, they launched flote.app, a social network platform that is moving toward decentralized system and encourages freedom of speech. If you set up an account there and say something that Kinglsey does not agree with, you will not be “cancelled'. Instead, people who do not agree with you will discuss it with you. Or not. Their choice. And it is all about choice. This is a previously recorded interview with Erin Edwards and Alex Martin of flote about the importance of free speech, decentralized technology and so much more. Death isn't an easy topic. But how we approach discussions about death matters in remembering those who have died. Join us this week for an interview with Franklin College students Andres Guerra and Bri Kemmerer, who worked through their Greek organizations, Kappa Delta Rho and Pi Beta Phi, to bring a Day of the Dead altar to campus and welcome conversations about how death is seen in Mexican culture. After that, hear from students and staff as they reflect on those who have died — and what meaningful lessons those who died continue to teach them today. Finally, Chaplain Hannah will share an All Souls Day litany in honor of student Erin Edwards and lives lost to COVID-19 and police brutality.
In a time of grief and uncertainty, Chaplain Hannah explores themes of gratitude and peace through a short study of Philippians 4:4-9. Stay through the end for a special note about the dark night of the soul. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you need any help processing the loss of Erin Edwards or the uncertainty of the pandemic, please reach out to Chaplain Hannah or the Counseling Center. They are here to journey with you.

Dr. Erin Edwards is a recent graduate from CCNM, a Reiki Level II practitioner with a background in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. Dr. Edwards recently released her first book called, A Drink Called Mindfulness: How to go from Hot Mess to Self Aware Before 30, where she uncovers her own areas of growth through vulnerability and the tools she used to shift from apathetic to awake. In the intro to the book she says that; “Spoonfuls of mindfulness each day has replaced my addiction to alcohol, has helped me grieve the loss of my father, and helped me come to terms with my sexuality.” And what I loved about reading this book was the courage it took to be so vulnerable and honest as well as the actionable mindfulness tools Dr. Edwards provides for people to apply that only take 5 or so minutes. In this episode we dive into the 4 pillars of mindfulness, identity, the different cycles that we go through in life, and how we can level up with each of those cycles through mindfulness practices.Get your copy of the book and share with your patients here; https://www.amazon.ca/dp/1777148707/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_9XDXEbNK1CD9F Get more tools by Dr. Erin Edwards;https://www.theerinedwards.com/ Follow on IG; https://www.instagram.com/theerinedwards/ Be sure to subscribe, like, and share to keep the inspiration going!IG- @nd.inspowww.ndinspo.com
Erin Edwards is a dear friend of mine. We've worked together in commonwealth schools, our kids have adopted each other as cousins, and we talk books as much as possible. She's on the podcast to share how she's helping friends who are now homeschooling due to COVID-19, her journey to love homeschooling and how she's managed to make self-care a priority. There is some unapologetic gushing on both our parts toward the end, so be forewarned. We all need support and encouragement in this life so I hope you find your own Erin to inspire and challenge you. Doug’s team is carrying Miura’s unique message regarding advanced modular on-demand steam boiler technology to users in numerous industries, including food & beverage, textiles, pharmaceuticals, petro-chemical, healthcare, education, and many others. Learn more about Miura here: https://www.miuraboiler.com/about and connect with Doug MacMaster on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/doug-macmaster-921157b/ Eric Berrios served as the strategic planner at Realm for 15 years, and head of client services, focused on the overall client experience. In that time, he drove agency growth by deepening the client offering as well as creating success pathways for clients that increased the agency's overall value. After joining Realm, Eric took over Strategic Planning for business-to-business clients like Novelis, SunTrust, the Georgia Ports Authority and others. Over the past decade, he had been deeply immersed in business-to-business marketing working in channels like logistics, finance, manufacturing and professional services. Before moving to Atlanta, Eric had spent the first 10 years of his career with Erin/Edwards, New York. Under his leadership, the agency brought clients like 1-800-Flowers, Merck & Co., Olsten Health Services and others to the web for the first time. At the end of that time, he was serving as Vice President of Interactive. The next six years in New York were spent converting Long Island’s largest ad firm, Harrison Leifer DiMarco, into an integrated agency. Once again serving as Vice President of Interactive, Eric also carried a second role as Vice President of Operations. Over time, he developed a new suite of services and delivery methods for clients like Fougera, Novartis and Eon Labs, among others. Today, Eric is a hired gun consultant to clients and agencies alike, helping them refine or develop their marketing strategies. His role is narrow and impactful. He is able to bring a unique set of skills, on an as-needed basis, that most agencies need only occasionally, decreasing their overhead and increasing their bench strength. Eric currently serves on the board of that Atlanta chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, as VP of Professional Recognition. In his spare time, he is an avid gardener and occasional beer brewer. At the beginning of the 20th century, surrealists such as André Breton and Man Ray played a game called “Exquisite Corpse.” You can play it by drawing or by writing, and the rules are very simple. Let’s say you’re writing. You would write the beginning of a story or poem at the top of a piece of paper and, when you finished, fold the paper so that only the last line of the poem or story is visible. Then you’d hand the paper to another player, and this person would add to the story or poem knowing only that little bit of language. Then this play would fold the paper and pass it along. On the story or poem would go, jumping from topic to topic, from style to style, depending on how the next person added to it, until it’s done. That’s it. The result is usually highly fragmented and often fascinating. Things that aren’t normally put together are suddenly combined. Poems, stories, and, in the case of drawings, images that seem impossible are suddenly on the page in front of you, asking you to consider them as a connected whole. The name of the game purportedly came from a phrase one of them wrote the first time the surrealists played it: “The exquisite corpse shall drink the new wine.” I’ve played it numerous times, and it’s always fascinating to see what emerges, but I’ve new understood why it’s so fascinating until I had the pleasure of reading Erin Edwards’ new book, The Modernist Corpse: Posthumanism and the Posthumous (University of Minnesota Press, 2018). In her insightful study, Edwards examines the presence of the corpse in modernist literature and changes the ways we understand what a corpse is and even who and what counts as being fully alive. I finished Edward’s book with the startling insight that “Exquisite Corpse,” far from being just an odd surrealist experiment, might be a more accurate way for art to capture our world and the things that live in it with us than more traditional stories, poems, and paintings. To say it another way, Edwards shows us that, in the work of modernist artists, the corpse, whether exquisite or not, might be the best way to show us what it really means to be alive. He is the author of three books, most recently In Praise of Nothing: Essay, Memoir, and Experiments (Emergency Press, 2014). He can be reached at eric@ericlemay.org. Learn more about your ad choices.
