Clare and Limerick are teaming up in a bid to host EuroPride, Europe's most significant LGBT+ event, in 2028.If they are successful, Ireland would play host to the international event for the first time, which attracts around 100,000 visitors from around the world.Amongst those steering the West of Ireland bid for EuroPride 2028 is Bernie O'Gorman, Chair of QuareClare, Lisa Daly from Limerick Pride and Eddie McGuinness, Director and Founder of The Outing Queer Arts Collective and Festival.They join Andrea to discuss!

The Outing, QuareClare, and Limerick Pride have officially been shortlisted to host EuroPride 2028, alongside Manchester Pride. If successful, it would mark the first time Ireland has ever hosted the major international event, which attracts over 100,000 people from around the world each year. Backed by Fáilte Ireland, Visit Clare, and others, the joint bid promises to deliver a one-of-a-kind EuroPride experience along the Wild Atlantic Way, celebrating Irish culture, diversity, and community spirit. The world's only LGBTQ+ matchmaking festival returns to Clare this weekend for its 12th iteration with some of the biggest names in drag in attendance. The Outing festival, will take place at the Inn at Dromoland and will see cameo's from Charra Tea, Paul Ryder and Victoria Secret in drag and comedy shows, while Irish heritage will be celebrated at the many 'Gaylís' taking place. Organisers of the festival have also put foward a bid for the Midwest to host Europride in 2028, which would see up 75,000 people from around the world descend on the region to celebrate LGBTQ culture. Festival Director, Eddie McGuinness, says a successful Europride bid could be worth millions to the economy.

Besa Luci in conversation with Adelina Rose and Lana Vee.Drag is thriving in our region, both as a form of art and as a tool for radical change. The vibrant art of drag is becoming ever more present in the public sphere. But as drag artists and performers find and claim their space in the public domain, they face constant backlash, resistance and pushbacks. Being strongly linked with celebration of queerness and the LGBTQ+ rights cause, drag artists fight difficult battles in a region that has long been unaccepting, if not outright violent, towards LGBTQ+ people and allies. In addition to being a form of rebellion, drag is developing as an industry and a career in which performers invest a lot of energy, thought and labor. However, such labor tends to go unnoticed, and perhaps undervalued particularly when combined with an overall societal intolerance towards those who do not conform with norms or seek to shift them.Two guests join us to discuss the dynamics of drag art in our region.Erblin Nushi is a Kosovar filmmaker, director, producer. Nushi is also known by their drag persona Adelina Rose. They recently finished their debut feature film titled “I Love You More,” and have started their own film production company Tilia Entertainment. Lana Vee is a Serbian drag performer from Belgrade. Serbien ist in Gefahr! Schon wieder. Diesmal drohen finstere Kräfte aus dem fernen Brüssel Hand an die Fundamente der serbischen Nation und ihrer heiligen Werte zu legen, indem sie ungefragt queere Menschen durch die Straßen Belgrads marschieren lassen. GAYROPA versucht Serbien unter Druck zu setzen. Muss man wissen. Was los war? Eigentlich wollten nur ein paar hundert bis ein paar Tausend queere Menschen die Europride in Belgrad abhalten. Doch weil die serbisch orthodoxe Kirche im Vorfeld ein Bedrohungsszenario sondergleichen aufbaute und die serbische Regierung ein absurdes Theater um die Erlaubnis für die Veranstaltung aufführte, wurde aus einer fröhlichen Veranstaltung ein (einseitiger) Kulturkampf von rechts. Krsto war vor Ort (siehe Sondersendung). In dieser Episode analysieren wir nochmal die Hintergründe der ganzen Debatte und schauen uns an, wer von der Hetze gegen die LGBTQ-Szene profitiert oder zu profitieren glaubt. Außerdem kommen Menschen zu Wort, die am Rande der Pride körperlich angegriffen wurden. Earlier this week, mass graves were discovered in the newly liberated town of Izium, in northeast Ukraine. Over 400 bodies have been found since Russian troops retreated. And an estimated 1.5 million carnations from Turkey's southern Isparta region will be sent to the United Kingdom during the mourning period for the late queen — double the usual number. Also, the weeklong EuroPride event includes a final Pride March to be held in Serbia this weekend. But the Serbian government and police force have worked to ban it over the past couple of weeks. Plus, catastrophic flooding in Pakistan has left at least 1,500 people dead and a half a million homeless. Volunteer groups there have been stepping up to aid survivors.

I spoke for this episode with Sofija Todorović, the Belgrade-based program director at the Youth Initiative for Human Rights, a network of NGO across the Western Balkans. We spoke about the difficulties faced by the LGBT community in Serbia — including the country's attempts to ban the Europride march in the capital, Belgrade — how anti-LGBT rhetoric and actions fit into the broader political context, and the threat posed by the far right and its allies in the mainstream.

On September 13, 2022, Serbian authorities banned the iconic EuroPride march, which was supposed to take place next Saturday in the country's capital, Belgrade. The march would have been the culmination of EuroPride week, the leading yearly event in Europe, through which the LGBTQI+ community gathers and voices its demand for stronger rights and equality. The announcement of the ban came after that, in August, the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, hinted at the likely cancellation of the event. But until this Tuesday, the organizers of EuroPride had re-affirmed it was not up to the President to cancel a public event. In fact, as of September 15, 2022, so also after the official ban, the people behind the EuroPride continue to say that “they will march”. The ban of the EuroPride march inevitably puts Belgrade and Serbia under the spotlight. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. **Three Taiwanese from Myanmar Human Trafficking Ring Arrested ** The Criminal Investigation Bureau says three people have been detained on connection with a human trafficking ring in Myanmar. The three were allegedly involved in organ harvesting and sex trafficking. They were arrested after it was confirmed they were fugitives and are likely members of a telecom extortion ring in Myanmar. The three Taiwanese nationals were detained after they returned home from Myanmar this past weekend. One of them was on Taiwan's most wanted list for forgery (偽造罪) and currency counterfeiting, but police have not indicated that that individual was involved in human trafficking operations. **KMT Vice Chair Touts China Trip as 'Helping Taiwanese People' ** K-M-T Vice Chairman Andrew Hsia says his recently concluded 17-day trip to China was aimed at looking after the needs of Taiwanese people based in the country. Speaking after returning to Taiwan, Hsia said used his meetings with Chinese officials to convey (表達) concerns over Beijing's recent military drills in areas surrounding Taiwan. According to Hsia, he told Chinese officials that the military exercises were of no help to peaceful development, and that the vast majority of people in Taiwan were uneasy, worried, and dissatisfied with the drills. Hsia says he also exchanged views with them on job scams in Cambodia, cross-strait flights, the reopening of the "mini-three links" and rumors of the termination of the ECFA accords "early harvest" list. **Army Fires Warning Flares at Chinese Drone in Kinmen ** The army says it has fired warning flares after a Chinese drone after it was spotted over a small island in Kinmen County. According to the Kinmen Defense Command, a civilian-operated drone from China appeared over Lieyu Township and troops responded by firing warning flares based on standard operating procedures. Defense officials say troops refrained from takiing more aggressive (挑釁的) measures, such as shooting the drone down, in order to avoid further escalating cross-strait tensions. A clip of the drone's flight was posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo and shows it flying close to and filming a military lookout post, including its facilities and soldiers and ship and aircraft identification charts. The Ministry of National Defense says it is work on a defensive system against drones for installation by 2023 in Kinmen and Matsu. **Serbia opposition, rights groups condemn EuroPride decision ** In Serbia, opposition parties and international rights groups have denounced (斥責) a decision by the President to cancel next month's LGBTQ EuroPride events. President Aleksandar Vucic explained that the Balkan nation could not handle EuroPride because of a political crisis with Serbia's former breakaway province of Kosovo, and economic problems amid Russia's war in Ukraine. Most of the groups say they would ignore the ban announced Saturday by Vucic and go ahead with the September 12-18 events scheduled in Belgrade. **NASA moon rocket on track for launch despite lightning hits ** NASA's new moon rocket is expected to launch later today, despite a series of lightning strikes at the launch pad. Officials say neither the rocket Artemis 1 nor ground equipment suffered (受到) any damage. Five lightning strikes hit the 600-foot towers surrounding the rocket at Florida's Kennedy Space Center this past weekend. The 322-foot rocket is the most powerful ever built by NASA. It plans to send an empty crew capsule into lunar orbit, 50 years after NASA's Apollo program. Astronauts could return to the moon in a few years, if this six-week test flight goes well.
