It's Labour Day, sure, but we're working the podcast anyway as we talk about critically-disliked films made by 14 outstanding actors. We put the names of 50 living thespians in a hat, then pulled out 7 names apiece and talked up 1 movie of each of theirs that Rotten Tomatoes gave a bad review. A splat, if you will. Some of the names in this 683rd edition of Have You Ever Seen include Ford, Foxx, Streep, Cruise, Freeman and Weaver. While we intentionally left out a few guys for reasons that will be explained, fear not. They might come up anyway. So like what you like no matter what the reviewers think as we praise a pile of flicks that a lot of critical types did not. On Sept. 1, 1867, Robert Tanner Freeman became the first Black graduate of Harvard Dental School, making history as one of the first professionally trained Black dentists in the United States. Born to formerly enslaved parents in North Carolina, Freeman overcame barriers of racism and exclusion that kept African Americans out of medical training. He later practiced in Washington, D.C., mentoring young Black men who sought to enter the field. His groundbreaking achievement paved the way for greater Black representation in medicine and dentistry. “A lot of lessons from that (National Championship) game, one is- we are good enough to be in that game and we are good enough to win that game….but this program is good enough every year to be in that game and to win that game, but we have to earn the right to do that.“ Marcus Freeman As the 2025 college football season approaches, The Pivot Podcast welcomes back Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman for a powerful sit-down ahead of what could be a defining year in South Bend. Coming off a thrilling run to the National Championship game last season, Coach Freeman opens up to Ryan, Channing, and Fred about the lessons learned from the highs and heartbreaks of 2024—and how he's using that experience to fuel this year's mission. In this candid conversation, Freeman talks leadership, pressure, and what it truly takes to build a sustainable culture of excellence. Freeman also shares his excitement for breakout running back Jeremiah Love, whose explosive finish to the 2024 season has fans buzzing and opposing defenses on alert. Maybe he never went away. But Dr Strangelove is back now at the heart of America's new military-industrial-digital complex. And Strangelove 2.0 might offer an even more existential threat than Kubrick's original cigar-chewing model played with such absurdist aplomb by the great Peter Sellers. While the first Strangelove was just dumb, today's powers-that-be at the Pentagon are both stupid and corrupt. That, at least, is the worrying view of Ben Freeman, the director of Democratizing Foreign Policy at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and the co-author of the upcoming The Trillion Dollar War Machine. Freeman sees companies like Peter Thiel's Palantir—which just secured a historic $10 billion contract—as the new face of a military establishment that has grown exponentially more dangerous since Eisenhower's bipartisan warning. Today's war profiteers (in both political parties) wield AI, deepfakes, and automated kill chains while maintaining the same reckless nuclear thinking that nearly ended the world in 1962 Cuba. The result? A trillion-dollar budget that enriches contractors while making America infinitely less safe in an infinitely more dangerous world. What we're really missing is a Kubrick 2.0 to restore Strangelove to our digital screens. 1. The Military-Industrial Complex Has Gone Digital Companies like Palantir represent a new evolution - the "military-industrial-digital complex" - where Silicon Valley tech firms are now central players in defense contracting, with Palantir recently securing a historic $10 billion contract.2. It's a Bipartisan Problem, Not Just Trump Freeman emphasizes this spans party lines: Obama (despite his Nobel Peace Prize) oversaw record military spending, Biden sold arms at record levels, and the system perpetuates itself regardless of who's in the White House because defense contractors strategically place jobs in congressional districts.3. More Weapons = Less Security America just hit a trillion-dollar military budget for the first time, yet remains ineffective at solving major global conflicts (Ukraine, Gaza, Korea). Meanwhile, diplomatic tools like the State Department are being gutted, creating a dangerous imbalance.4. AI and Automation Pose New Existential Risks Beyond traditional nuclear threats, we now face "automated kill chains" where AI makes lethal decisions without human oversight, plus deepfakes that could trigger conflicts based on false information - combining old Dr. Strangelove logic with new technological capabilities.5. The Revolving Door Ensures System Perpetuation Pentagon officials stay quiet about waste and corruption because they know defense contractors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin will hire them post-retirement for lucrative positions, creating a self-perpetuating cycle that prioritizes profit over actual security.Keen On America is a reader-supported publication. After a turbulent time with the CAS ruling, and unhelpful language from Steve Parish, Selhurst Park was full of Palace fans wanting to get one over on Forest, but more specifically Evangelos Marinakis. For nearly an hour it looked like they would get their wish as the home team grabbed the lead and Forest struggled to get involved, but once Callum Hudson-Odoi levelled, Forest arguably looked more likely, with Igor Jesus and Omari Hutchinson coming close before a late Palace effort was saved. In this powerful episode of America's Founding Series, Professor Nick Giordano brings to life the extraordinary and often-overlooked stories of Jordan Freeman and Lambert Latham, two Black patriots who fought and died at the Battle of Groton Heights in 1781. As British forces stormed Fort Griswold, Freeman and Latham stood their ground in defense of a nation still grappling with its founding ideals. Through gripping storytelling, Giordano explores their heroism, sacrifice, and the brutal betrayal that followed the surrender. Their legacy challenges modern narratives and reminds us that America's founding was not just shaped by generals and statesmen, but by ordinary men who believed liberty was worth dying for. Episode Highlights: Jordan Freeman's heroic defense and the killing of British Major Montgomery with a spear Lambert Latham's defiant stand and symbolic act of raising the American flag amid massacre The brutal betrayal at Fort Griswold and the forgotten legacy of patriots in the American Revolution

Raised in suburban Ohio on a steady diet of Douglas Adams and mediocre sci-fi, he grew into a firm empiricist, regarding UFOs, near-death visions, and prophetic dreams as curiosities, not convictions. Send us a textWhat happens when a self-described "overachiever" and "fixer" faces the uncontrollable challenges of caring for multiple loved ones with serious illnesses? Jackie Freeman's powerful story reveals the beautiful transformation that can occur when we release our grip on control and embrace faithful presence instead.Jackie grew up believing she could handle anything life threw her way. As she puts it, she was raised during the height of the feminist movement with the message that she could "bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan" – essentially managing everything through sheer determination and competence. This mindset met its match when her husband was diagnosed with brain cancer (surviving seven years beyond his six-month prognosis) while she simultaneously supported her father through Alzheimer's disease.Through raw honesty and surprising humor, Jackie shares the profound shift from believing "everything was mine to do" to recognizing her limitations and finding strength in surrender. One of her most beautiful insights comes from what caregivers at her father's memory care facility called "Perry's Time" – the practice of giving her father space to process information at his own pace rather than rushing him. This approach transformed not just her father's care but Jackie's entire philosophy of caregiving. The conversation explores practical wisdom for the overwhelmed caregiver: creating a medical notebook, finding small moments for spiritual renewal, accepting help from others, and discovering unexpected blessings even in loss. Jackie's perspective on hospice care is particularly enlightening, framing it not as "giving up" but as embracing support that allows both patient and family to live fully in whatever time remains. Most movingly, Jackie reveals how caregiving ironically healed her marriage by reversing their love languages – her husband, whose love language had been acts of service, was now receiving service, while Jackie, who valued quality time, was now giving service. This role reversal created deeper understanding between them and opened space for meaningful connection even amid tremendous challenges.Whether you're currently caregiving or supporting someone who is, this conversation offers hope that even in our most difficult seasons, we can find purpose, connection, and unexpected grace. Connect with Jackie's resources and books at JackieFreemanAuthor.com.

Check out the brand new podcast, American Dread, from Adam White. On a quiet May night in 1976, the city of Decatur, Illinois, was shattered by a brutal double murder that still echoes nearly fifty years later. Two young cousins, June and Marcella Freeman, were savagely stabbed to death and left discarded like trash on the side of West Center Street. Their killer, Michael Timothy Gibson, would soon be caught — but justice didn't end the nightmare. In this debut episode of American Dread, host Adam White takes you deep into the horror of that night, the trial that followed, and the decades of pain that haunted the victims' families and the Decatur community. With real crime statistics, eyewitness details, and chilling atmosphere, this story explores not just the crime itself, but the scars it left behind. Our Sponsors:* Check out Shopify: https://shopify.com/hauntingsSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In today's VETgirl online veterinary continuing education podcast, we interview Dr. Nick Jeffery, BVSc, PhD, MSc, DECVS, DECVN, Professor in Neurology and Neurosurgery from Texas A&M on a recent study by Freeman et al entitled “Percutaneous enzymatic chemonucleolysis of intervertebral disks appears safe and effective in treatment of acute-onset paraparesis and paraplegia in small dogs,” published in JAVMA in March 2025. Can the use of intradiscal chondroitinase ABC (often called "CHASE") injections under fluoroscopic-guidance work as a safe, minimally invasive option for small dogs with acute nonambulatory paraparesis or paraplegia, especially when deep pain perception is intact? If you're a general practitioner who sees a lot of down dogs—and especially if you practice in a Dachshund-heavy region—you'll definitely want to tune in.
It's our first episode back after our summer hiatus and I'm so glad to welcome my friend, partner, and husband, John P. Freeman. (Yes, his middle initial really is P!) Aside from being my biggest cheerleader, John is also a pastor who served for 12 years in two different churches as a youth pastor until 12 years ago when he walked out of the room of official church ministry and walked into the room of our actual home where he worked for several years as a stay-at-home dad. For the last decade, he's been running his own nonprofit called Grace Discipleship, where he offers soul care and spiritual direction for couples, pastors, and Gen Z high school and college students. On this first episode of this next season of the podcast, we'll cover some questions you submitted about spiritual direction, family life, and life with God. Plus John will share which episodes of this podcast are his personal favorite. Listen in.
