Welcome to the Hyperspace Heroes Podcast, where 3 Gen 1 Star Wars fans are just trying to make their way in the Star Wars podcast universe. As one of the Brothers Hildebrandt (Tim passed away in 2006), Greg Hildebrandt long ago cemented his reputation as a preeminent fantasy/sci-fi illustrator of the past half-century. The brothers are best known for their Lord of the Rings calendars, paintings for Magic: The Gathering and Harry Potter card games, and an iconic early poster for Star Wars. We also get into Greg's work (with and without his brother) on Marvel publications, other movie posters, book covers, and other illustrations. The set would debut in September of that year and their turnaround time for completion of the work was only 4 and a half months. But short deadlines were nothing new to the brothers and they turned out an amazing set of paintings used for the card set. An iconic artist and illustrator, Greg (together with his twin brother Tim as the Brothers Hildebrandt) helped a generation of readers visualize Middle-earth in the Ballantine Books J.R.R. Tolkien Calendars from 1976 to 1978, and continues to create fantasy and sci-fi art to this day.
