With a mother and a father who amounted to bowls royalty, it's really no surprise that David Gourlay found his way into the sport. But David was determined to make his own way in bowls, and has amassed a whopping seven world indoor titles – including the 1996 World Indoor Singles Championship, as well as three World Men's Indoor Pairs Championships and three World Mixed Indoor Pairs Championships. And as if success as a player wasn't enough, David also coached Scotland's bowls players to four medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games – and as if that weren't enough, he was also appointed as an MBE for his services to the sport. David is now the longest-serving player in the World Bowls Tour Top 16 – and with the World Indoor Bowls Championship in full swing at Hopton on Sea, now seemed like the perfect time to get David on for a chat. This is a cracking conversation with a brilliant guest in a sport that we've never covered before – as we talk about some of David's top moments, his experiences in the sport, receiving that MBE, his personal journey and loads, loads more. In this episode, the hosts and Dr. Rajaraman engage in a conversation about trauma-informed care and the application of behavior analysis. They emphasize the importance of considering individuals' potential traumatic experiences and question the ethical implications of contributing to additional trauma in the name of interventions. The hosts advocate for a kinder and gentler approach, highlight the negative health outcomes associated with multiple traumatic experiences, and challenge narrow definitions of trauma. They emphasize the significance of social validity, the lived experiences of individuals, and the need to prioritize well-being and autonomy in interventions. Overall, they stress the importance of listening to and believing individuals when they communicate their traumas and adapting interventions accordingly. Decline of the Duel.  ps. The Wild WestWhether acting on principal or an example of extreme folly, the duel captured the imagination of European society for at least three centuries.  There was the duel involving billiard balls, an armed encounter between balloonists, and even a skirmish between two society ladies in Hyde Park in which one lost her hat to a lead round. Many lost their lives during these encounters, often for the most trivial of perceived slights.  In France alone, over a ten-year period during the seventeenth century, over 2,000 aristocrats and officers were killed in duels.  The sport certainly took its toll.  There were duels in London clubs and even the Palace of Westminster, and once the middle classes took up the sport it became almost a contagion.   One drunken duelist even faced his opponent naked.  Yet eventually the habit died out, a victim of its own ridiculous nature and growing alarm in the political establishment.  America developed its own form with the arrival of gunfights in the Wild West.  These too were to eventually fade into history and legend. So it goesTom Assheton and James Jackson Readings by David Harley from Richard Hopton's book Pistols at Dawn published by Piatkus 2007(Richard Hopton's latest book, The Straits of Treachery, is published by Allison & Busby) See also:YouTube: BloodyViolentHistoryhttps://www.instagram.com/bloodyviolenthistory/https://www.jamesjacksonbooks.comhttps://www.tomtom.co.uk If you enjoy the podcast, would you please leave a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes, Spotify or Google Podcast App? Registered & Certified in Virginia. Proper dental care is essential to your horse's health - it will ensure your horse is more comfortable, utilities feed more efficiently, performs better and may well live longer. Malocclusions - improper position and contact between teeth - lead to inefficient chewing, bit discomfort, excessive wear and premature loss of teeth. Many horses show no symptoms of dental problems until it is too late. Horses experiencing oral pain will not be able to perform to the best of their abilities. Complete oral examinations every six to twelve months and regular preventative dental care allow horses to live a healthier, more comfortable life and to perform better. If your horse has not had a check-up in the past 12 months, it is time for one now. A thorough check-up involves using a speculum, looking in the mouth with a good headlamp, and feeling the teeth and gums. Anything less than such a thorough examination could result in a serious dental condition going unnoticed and untreated.

Discover the haunting untold true story of the woman whose crimes inspired speculation that Jack the Ripper was a woman. On October 24, 1890, a woman was discovered on a pile of rubbish in Hampstead, North London. Her arms were lacerated and her face bloodied; her head was severed from her body save a few sinews. Later that day, a blood-soaked stroller was found leaning against a residential gate, and the following morning the dead body of a baby was found hidden underneath a nettle bush. So began the chilling story of the Hampstead Tragedy.Eventually, Scotland Yard knocked on the door of No. 2 Priory Street, home to Mary Eleanor Pearcey, the pretty 24-year-old mistress whose dying request was as bizarre and mysterious as her life. Woman at the Devil’s Door is a thrilling look at this notorious murderer and the webs she wove.
