Professor Kozlowski takes on a triple threat of Bronze-Age(ish) underworld stories, namely: The Egyptian Book of the Dead, Inana's Descent to the Underworld (Sumerian), and the Homeric Hymn to Demeter. Along the way, we'll try to make some sense and find patterns among these dense, difficult, and disparate texts, and set the foundation for the later Greek and Roman (and Christian) understandings of the Underworld to come.

We invite you to listen to the special evening celebrating the life and writings of Enheduana, also En-hedu-Ana; (c. twenty-third century B.C.E.) who is the first named author in human history. Enheduana, an Akkadian princess and daughter of King Sargon I, was appointed high priestess of the moon god Nanna (Sîn) in the holy city of Ur. Her poems and hymns offer unique, first-hand accounts of her personal experiences of the goddess Inana, and provide insights into issues of gender, sexuality, theology, and goddess-worship in early Mesopotamia. Reception following the event from 6 to 7 pm. Celine Debourse, Assistant Professor in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard presented on “Women in Mesopotamian Temples: Priestess, Slaves, Weavers” and Dr. Sophus Helle, historian and translator of Enheduana's poems, gave a talk on “Introducing Enheduana's World: Grief and Gender.” Their presentations were followed by a musical performance, drawn from inspiration from Enheduana's writings. The world premiere of “To the Stars,” composed by Douglas Knehans, featured CSWR's Scholar in Residence, Anne Harley (soprano), Maggie Finnegan (soprano), Gabby Diaz (violin), Amy Advocat (bass clarinet), Matt Sharrock (percussion) and Evan Ziporyn (conductor). Njene stavčne strukture, sintaksa in besedni red niso običajni, prav tako so izvirni njeni paralelizmi, besedne zveze in metafore. Tudi roman Ana In v grobnicah sveta jasno kaže, kakšna mojstrica jezika, sloga in tudi kompozicije je Olga Tokarczuk. Prevajalka in avtorica spremne besede Jana Unuk je besedilo označila za poetični roman s feminističnim, revolucionarnim nabojem. Temu lahko pritrdimo. Poleg tega je pisateljica zgodbi dodala še Zaključno besedo, ki je natančna, domala akademska študija procesa nastajanja romana in mita, ki ga ubeseduje. Avtorica, ki je znana po tem, da si vzame veliko časa za raziskavo področja ali teme nastajajočega dela, piše, da se je v romanu Ana In v grobnicah sveta lotila nekakšne literarne arheologije. Sodobnemu bralcu je, kot piše, želela približati enega najstarejših mitov človeštva, mit o sumerski boginji Inani, hčeri boga in boginje meseca, vladarici mesta Uruk. Inana ali Ana In, kot jo tudi imenuje Olga Tokarczuk, je boginja ljubezni in vojne. V pričujočem romanu se pisateljica osredotoča na Inanin spust v podzemlje, v svet mrtvih, ter na njeno vrnitev v svet živih. Mit o potovanju v domovanje mrtvih in o vrnitvi v svet živih poznamo tudi iz babilonske zgodbe o Ištar in Tamuzu, grške pripovedi o Demetri in Perzefoni in iz drugih mitov, ki prav tako pokopljejo svoje junake, zato da se lahko znova dvignejo v življenje. Olga Tokarczuk je starodavni mit prestavila v nedoločeno prihodnost, v prostor znanstveno-tehnoloških izumov, mest, v katerih živijo odtujeni ljudje, v patriarhalni sistem, ki ne pozna empatije in kjer se mora ženski princip vedno znova bojevati za svoje pravice in priložnosti. Avtorica v študiji, ki spremlja roman, piše, da se je za več pripovedovalcev in pripovedovalk odločila zato, ker mite vedno pripoveduje »vsakdo in nihče«. V pripovedi tako spoznamo Inano skozi pripovedi njene zveste spremljevalke Nine Šubur/Ninšabur, (ki sebi pravi “jaz slehernica, ki pripovedujem”), sestre njenega moža Dumuzija Ane Gešti/Geštiane, Netija, vratarja v podzemlju, kjer kraljuje Inanina sestra, sumerske pesnice Enheduane (Enheduana je prva oseba v zgodovini svetovne književnosti, ki je podpisala svoja dela oziroma pri kateri je izpričano avtorstvo – napisala je kar nekaj pesnitev, v katerih slavi boginjo Inano), spoznamo pa tudi Inanine ljubimce, frizerja, kuharja in rikšarja, s katerimi komunicira. Ana In se v podzemlje, ki mu vlada njena sestra Ereškigal, potopi zato, da bi se udeležila pogreba sestrinega moža, vendar tega vidika Inanine zgodbe, kot pravi pisateljica, mit ne razvija. Izvirna zgodba govori tudi o tem, da je Inana želela sestro pahniti s prestola in je bila zato kaznovana s smrtjo, Ninšubur pa naj bi nato pri trojici bogov očetov prosila za njeno izpustitev. Jezik Olge Tokarczuk ima v romanu poseben ritem, spevnost, kakršno najdemo v obrednem jeziku. Avtorica se tako na bolj neposreden način poveže s starodavno mitologijo, s časom “pred veliko politično, družbeno in versko revolucijo, posledica katere je bil nastanek patriarhalnih človeških družb in – znotraj tega – patriarhalnega monoteizma,” kot v študiji piše Olga Tokarczuk. Cikličnosti sveta, v katerem bivata Inana in Ninšubur, svet, v katerem živimo, ne pozna več. To je svet ljudi, katerih “misli so pred njimi, za korak naprej, razporejene po točkah, nakupovalni seznami in delo, ki ga morajo opraviti; mehurčki v stripu”. Inana je kljub patriarhalnemu okolju nedefinirane prihodnosti, še vedno mogočna in svojeglava boginja. Ko prostovoljno stopi v podzemlje, prestopa meje dovoljenega, gre za uporniško, domala revolucionarno dejanje. Inana želi razdrobljen, fragmentiran svet spet narediti celovit, stakniti želi cikel življenja in smrti. Ana In in piska njene zgodbe se tako upirata odtujenosti potrošniške, izkoriščevalske, patriarhalne družbe sodobnega časa, ki mu vladajo brezsrčni, avtoritarni voditelji. Roman Ana In v grobnicah sveta že z naslovom nakazuje, da gre za razgradnjo in vnovično sestavo mita, ki polnomoči ženski glas. Prastaro, sedanje in prihodnje se v romanu sestavljajo skozi različne pripovedne spektre in se izpišejo v zgodbo, ki bralcu in bralki kliče tako, kot je vratar Neti zaklical Inani, ko je stala na pragu sestrinega kraljestva: “Pridi, Inana, vstopi.” Vstop v pripovedni svet Olge Tokarczuk je ponavadi več kot literarna pustolovščina, je vstop v mistično, v neizrekljivo, v praspomin, ki živi le še v mitski podobi.

Her first encounter with gymnastics was at the age of 6 years old, in which she obtained several medals on a national scale in Syria, and then participated  in competitions on a wider scale internationally, as well as being a part of several gymnastics camps in multiple countries (Romania, Egypt, Iraq).Mervat journey with gymnastics ended in 2002,and that’s when her  journey with dancing started, In 2013, Mervat graduated from the High Institute of Dramatech of  Arts in Damascus University, with a degree of “excellent” as a professional dancer, later she attained several experience certificates from the Russian Center Institute in Damascus and she Participated in numerous professional courses in both ballet and modern dancing. Mervat worked as a dancing instructor in both Choueifat School, and in Damascus university High Institute of Performing of Arts in Syria , she worked as a ballet teacher in the School of Ballet in Damascus, and in other private and cultural schools in Syria. Mervat Participated in the Arabic version of the international TV competition show “So You Think You Can Dance” and she was chosen among the first best sixteen dancers , and she Participated in several dance shows with Inana professional dancing group in multiple countries in the Middle East and worldwide ,Mervat Participated in the Arabic version of the TV competition show “Arab Got Talent” and she reached the Semi Final In 2015 Mervat Worked as a choreographer and also a dance trainer in Inana Ballet Academy.   Link fb.me/Mervat.B.H

Listen as Giovanna and Layla talk about the journey to sovereignty, how archetypes can help us become a better person, and the spiritual awakening Layla has gone through that led her to the Wild Mystic Woman.   Show Notes: Introduction to the podcast Introducing Layla to the show Layla and Giovanna connected on Instagram and Giovanna instantly knew that Layla was her soul sister Sovereignty is a meaningful word to Layla because of the things that she had been through Layla shares the journey that led her on the path to sovereignty: Layla lives in Qatar, but she grew up in UK Layla is the oldest daughter and is a high achiever Layla’s mom had always told her that things would be more difficult for her because she’s black, a Muslim and a woman “My sense of worthiness came from my sense of achievement” Layla studied law in University, but she realized early on that it wasn’t for her Layla was trying to define who she was “I don’t have any idea of what I wanted to be” Layla had depression, anxiety and panic attacks As Giovanna would put it, Layla was discombobulated Layla’s darkest period lasted for 3 years Layla’s best friend introduced her to the world of self-development which got Layla out of that period Tony Robbin’s CDs opened up Layla’s eyes Layla decided not to pursue law after finishing her degree Layla believed that she would use her experience during her lowest point to help people Layla ended up in the field of corporate tax Layla went back to Qatar after finishing her degree, when she was 21 The entire time Layla was in corporate tax, she knew it wasn’t her path Layla decided she wanted to go back the UK when she met her husband Layla found out about life coaching Layla studied life coaching after getting married Layla quit the corporate world when she had her first child and started life coaching As passionate as Layla was, she didn’t know how to run a business Layla lost her confidence and gave up just when she was starting out Layla had a cycle of going back to coaching, giving up coaching, working as a part-timer, and going back to coaching again Just before Layla’s 30th, she was miserable and it was killing her to work with other people Layla went to her office early, sat at her desk and suddenly, her soul was afloat and was looking down at her, laughing Her laugh told her that what she was doing there wasn’t her life, her path and job Layla remembered when she was in her 20s, listening to Tony Robbins Layla wasn’t happy and if she continued with her miserable life, that would be her life forever Layla decided that she would continue coaching, throw herself into the business world, and NOT give up Layla started her business doing soulful, business coaching Last year, Layla had an incredible spiritual awakening that birthed The Wild Mystic Woman Layla shares what The Wild Mystic Woman is “It’s so different from the rest of my life” Layla has always been guided by her intuition 2 things happened regarding Layla’s spiritual awakening First, in April of 2016, Layla wrote a blog post that went viral which was unexpected Layla’s blog post was Why those ‘6 figure’ business coaches are failing you The post was shared a thousand times in just one week Strangers have been adding and getting in contact with Layla While Layla’s business was prepared for it, she wasn’t emotionally prepared Layla was uncomfortable and being in the spotlight—it brought her fear The second event was when Layla was on a business retreat During the meditation, Layla felt that her consciousness broke into a higher ground The very next day, things started to fall apart in Layla’s personal life Layla and her husband decided to move into her parent’s house instead of a beautiful apartment, leading them to give away some of their furniture Giovanna loves how Layla shares her vulnerability openly regardless of being an introvert Layla shares about her relationship with her parents Layla’s life was going in a direction that was out of her control “I could sense that it was not me directing. It was the divine directing it and arranging things in a certain way” Layla just surrendered and followed where life was taking her There comes a point when we just know that there’s no other way Giovanna shares how she started getting involved in the personal development industry We are not taught how to look at things Layla’s mentor offered her a reiki session and she accepted it Reiki is a form of energy healing Reiki channels divine energy to help re-balance the energetic system After the session, Layla’s mentor told her everything that she sees: Layla’s mentor saw an image of Layla’s mother and herself Layla has kept her pain in for years and Layla feels she’s betraying her mother whenever she succeeds It was all on a subconscious level Giovanna shares that there’s always a part of a child that wants to save his/her own parents Part of Layla’s spiritual journey last year was exploring her feelings towards her mother It made Layla realize how all these things are interconnected The success of your business depends on you You ARE the business “The more I’m able to do my spiritual work, the more I’m able to grow in my business” Layla shares her journey because we are all on that journey It’s about the being and not your flaws Giovanna shares the story of when she offered a coaching service to someone There were so much uncovered and Giovanna was able to see how she holds herself back In the end, the girl decided she wanted business coaching Giovanna referred her to someone else If you are not okay inside yourself, it trickles down The difference between Layla’s previous business and her current business Before, Layla wanted to do things that everyone was doing Now, Layla wanted to do a few things and do them well Work smarter, but harder “I prioritize my alignment over everything” Giovanna discusses the Divine Feminine Layla shares what the Divine Feminine is We can define it depending on one’s spiritual beliefs and where one is coming from Divine Feminine, for Layla, is the flow that is guiding her “It is the voice that is asking you to come back into wholeness with yourself and the feminine side of yourself” There’s fierceness in divine energy which is different from masculinity The Hindu goddess Kali who is the goddess of destruction, chaos and transformation Kali told Layla that she needs to tear down everything in Layla’s life that isn’t working Layla shares the goddess Inana’s story We cry with ourselves and we need to grieve Giovanna defines archetypes Archetypes helped Layla realize that she wasn’t crazy When you’re in a confusing time in your life, it seems like you’re stuck in it Archetypes gave Layla a road map to track where she’s at Being on a descent can be a cycle The name “She Rises” is from the story of the mythical phoenix We despair in times that we don’t have a guidance Giovanna’s mentor told her “when you’re the red of the rainbow, you can’t see other colors” Find Layla at Wild Mystic Woman and check the website to see what resonates you Layla has a one-on-one sovereign session used for business or spirituality If you’re looking at how to align yourself with your business, have a chat with Layla Layla is launching a monthly membership community called The Sovereign Sisterhood Sisterhood has helped Layla get through her journey Layla also has a podcast Find Layla on Instagram, too Layla is also writing a book about the heroine’s journey 3 Key Points: Aim to live in alignment with yourself and what you believe at all costs and in all areas of life.
