Trigger Warnings: Domestic abuse, gaslighting, hallucination, torture, blood and guts, extreme violence, compound fractures, police, mental health. They said it was impossible, but here's the movie with a disability twist that might actually be too dumb to criticize. Your mileage may vary, but James Wan's Malignant is definitely going to elicit some reaction from you!Wan is the most recent AAPI director we're highlighting this week, with a huge slew of horror and non-horror movies and a massive production company of his own in Atomic Monster, there are few genre directors with more influence...which is sort of the only reason I can imagine this movie got made at all.Recommendations:M3ganStar Trek: Strange New WorldsThese Fleeting ShadowsGunpowder MilkshakeNobodyRenfieldBanshees (from Scout Comics)John WickThe Seattle Underground (the actual place, not many of the other things probably named this in popular culture) ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

It's a brand new year and a brand new month and the inaugural episode of a brand new series here at the Fear of God. We're kicking off a rundown of some of your favorite horror films of last year with #2021moretime. We start with your selection for the very best horror film of last year, James Wan's MALIGNANT! It's an absolutely bananas film which starts off rather predictably, but then swerves hard in all kinds of bonkers directions by the end. We have a lot of fun with this one unpacking the experience of seeing it for the first time, speculating on the potential sequels, and finally observing some surprisingly encouraging truths about the parts of ourselves we try very hard to deny, until the right trauma unleashes it on our little worlds, and how to finally integrate all of it back again. This is a really fun first entry to the new year and we hope you enjoy it!4:37 - Business Time! James Wan's impact on contemporary horror is undeniable. The Malaysian-born Australian filmmaker is not only the co-creator of the Saw and Insidious franchises but he's also the creator of The Conjuring Universe, the second highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. Marking his return to horror after a detour into family-friendly blockbuster filmmaking, James Wan's Malignant once again proves that the producer/director still knows a thing or two about making good horror films. Malignant is a fine patchwork quilt of '70s and ‘80s horror films and best described as a modern-day Sci-fi, supernatural Giallo with an outlandish plot that feels lifted from the best and worst Dario Argento films. This week on the Sordid Cinema Podcast, we'll tell you why Malignant is one of our ten favourite horror films of 2021 and why we had such a fun time watching it!
Welcome to Silence Your Phones - a movie review podcast. Each week, Chris Chavez and Shawn Fritz watch a movie and discuss aspects such as cast, acting, writing, music, special effects and more. On this episode, Chris and Shawn dive into a film that has proven to be divisive amongst horror fans - James Wan's Malignant, a film in which a woman seems to be witnessing murders in real time though she is nowhere near the scenes of the crimes. All is not as it seems with this film and that's on ALL levels.

Hail Raatma! As spooky season lurches on, your Movie Squad hosts Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo cover a couple more horror flicks for guest Breakfast host Teri Campbell. First up, Tristan and Simon argue whether James Wan's Malignant is the good kind of bad or just the bad kind of bad (and how this grisly giallo-inspired flick compares to his Wan's other flicks, like Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring. Then, the trio share their love for found footage movies while digging into V/H/S 94, the latest instalment in the handheld horror anthology series (with short films about a Rat Man living in the sewers, a creepy casket at an empty wake, and a cult driven mad by watching video nasties). Malignant is in cinemas while V/H/S 94 is available to stream on Shudder.

Welcome back guys! This week we talk James Wan's Malignant!
James Wan's Malignant (2021) is a lot of things. Giallo homage. Action film. 90s horror. But even when it feels familiar, it delivers some genuinely original moments and ideas. We cover the film itself, its references, seeing films in theaters post-COVD, indie fetishism, simple pleasures, and whether or not Wan is the Dave Grohl of horror.

THE BACKWARDS MAN, THE BACKWARDS MAN, I CAN WALK BACKWARDS AS FAST AS YOU CAN...This week we dive into the creative mind of James Wan's Malignant. The tone in this one is all over the place. We're led to believe this movie was supposed to be taken seriously, but then we end up with something goofy and honestly just plain fun. Some of us question Wan's intentions, but others feel like Wan is giving a huge middle finger to "traditional" horror and just having fun with misdirection. Is Wan gonna bust out another dominating horror franchise and bring Gabriel's parkour-slashin-karate kickin-ass back for another one??!! Join us for James Wan's Malignant! Malignant is an original movie with an original story! It is not a sequel, reboot, re imaging, or spin off! It is however, inspired by Italian giallo movies such as Dario Argento's Tenebrae, Phenomena, and Trauma. Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities. A new vision of terror.

Well what a way for the guys to come back from their summer vacations. This week the guys are talking about...well maybe more processing, James Wan's Malignant. There are somethings you'll hear on this episode you won't believe. So tread carefully!
We open the show by reviewing Julie Cohen and Betsy West's compelling documentary MY NAME IS PAULI MURRAY (2:01). The film celebrates the life of Pauli Murray, a non-binary lawyer, poet, and priest, who you've probably never heard of, but definitely should have because of their enormous impact on civil rights in the U.S. Next, we take on Jonah Feingold's DATING & NEW YORK (20:04), a disappointingly derivative rom-com that's neither rom nor com to any of us. Lastly, we cover James Wan's MALIGNANT (38:48), a bonkers film that we all had a blast watching, and have just as much fun spoiling, but has us arguing whether it qualifies as "horror" or a "psychological thriller." And on this week's Patreon exclusive audio, we talk about the 2009 Richard Curtis film PIRATE RADIO aka THE BOAT THAT ROCKED.
On this episode of Daily Dead's official podcast, Corpse Club co-hosts Tamika Jones, Bryan Christopher, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James have an in-depth, spoiler-filled discussion about James Wan's Malignant! The co-hosts also discuss some of their other recent horror viewings and experiences, including Witchfinder General, Nightbooks, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and Alien: The Roleplaying Game.
In this episode, we review James Wan's Malignant and FX's Y: The Last Man and talk to Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour's Tee Franklin! Plus we react to the latest episodes of Titans & What If, discuss those MCU copy & paste comments, talk new Marvel and DC comics, recap NXT 2.0, and break down Power Rangers' big milestone! After another hectic week the creatures are headed to the video store to watch Ulli Lommel's The Devonsville Terror. Dylan gives his minute reviews of Nia DaCosta's Candyman and James Wan's Malignant before they dive into this oddly feminist VHS horror staple. They discuss straight-to-video films, the legacy of Donald Pleasance, Bird Box and face-melting, and eulogize their childhood video store.
To kick off Episode #20 of the Cine-Cast, Associate Editor Ben Sachs talks with contributors John Dickson and Steve Erickson about a wide range of new releases and upcoming revival screenings. The conversation touches on everything from Fritz Lang's RANCHO NOTORIOUS (screening on 35mm at the Music Box Theatre the first weekend in October) to James Wan's MALIGNANT (now playing in general release), then settles into a far-reaching discussion of WIFE OF A SPY, the first period piece by Cine-File favorite Kiyoshi Kurosawa (that film opens at the Gene Siskel Film Center on September 24). Next, Associate Editor Kathleen Sachs and contributor Megan Fariello interview experimental filmmaker Jennifer Boles about her short THE REVERSAL, which will play on a loop on the limestone wall of the McCormick Bridgehouse and River Museum on the Chicago Riverwalk on the night of September 30. The introductory theme is by local film composer Ben Van Vlissingen. Oh boy, we've got another highly contested movie here. On this episode of the Front Row Podcast, Dom and Gus have two separate feelings for James Wan's Malignant: love and hate. Why? Can they agree on any part of this super weird, wacky-ass creation? Find out here. Enjoy!
Joe Shoes and Michael Gomez are back with another enthralling installment of everything going on! This week, your double main men are discussing Joe turning 40 (1:17), Joe's birthday trip to PowerCon, the Masters of the Universe convention in Anaheim including trips to Tony Roma's and the Sizzler (3:12), the price of traveling and rewards points (40:15), Marvel's What If? (48:35), James Wan's MALIGNANT (51:51), Amazon looking to produce a live-action She-Ra (54:23), Chicken Squad and Bluey for kids (1:01:16), the bad Disney animation era (1:02:20) and Big Finish: top 3 Disney songs (1:04:22) Follow along on all the socials!
