Hey Friend, This week's episode I'm sharing a podcast update. We're going to be on a short hiatus after today for a little while. It's my birthday in a few days and normally around this time I do a lot of life reflection and reevaluate many areas of my life. And when I did that, I knew that I couldn't keep going with the show as it is right now. It has become unsustainable in its current format. And if you know me, that's a huge filter for my life. Is this sustainable? If not, how can I make it sustainable? What's possible? How can this be better? So in order to make the show more sustainable for the long term we're hitting pause. This isn't the end. Just a short hiatus. We'll be back. I promise. Listen in as I share about: Why I'm taking this hiatus right now mid-season What's happening behind the scenes. What's the plan for the show moving forward to make it more sustainable. Inviting you all to maybe hit pause on something in your life to retool it and make things better. More sustainable for you. Hey Friends, It's my birthday month, and I thought it would be fun to do something different with this episode! As you know, I tend to do a lot of reflection around this time of year…what went well, what I loved, what I would do differently, and so on, so this week's conversation is about the promises we keep (or don't keep) to ourselves. In this episode, I take a moment to read a few listener reviews of the show and ask for one special birthday wish from you. Then, I dive into today's topic of ‘keeping promises to ourselves'. I candidly share why it's been so easy for me to break promises to myself and the impact it has had on my self-esteem and self-worth. Can you relate? We then talk about the power of committing to the little promises we make for ourselves and how it can lead to a greater sense of self-confidence and belief. I also get into the relationship between procrastination and perfectionism and how they can contribute to broken promises, as well as the importance of remembering and getting back to your 'why' to help you stay motivated and focused. Throughout the episode, I emphasize the benefit of keeping the little promises we make and how it can lead to greater success and fulfillment. I encourage you to remove shame, judgment, and self-blame and offer tips to help me flex my discipline muscle and stay on track. Hey Friends, This week's episode is a solo show with me, and we're talking about how I learned I was insulin resistant. It all began during my fertility journey years ago, when I discovered that I was insulin resistant and had PCOS by fluke. Despite the different prescriptions and medications prescribed by my doctors, to help my fertility, I was frustrated with the lack of focus my doctors weren't taking when it came to my food, workout, or lifestyle choices. The low hanging fruit of health is my option! I discovered that food and nutrition played a significant role in managing my insulin resistance and regulating my menstrual cycle, and through dietary changes and lifestyle modifications, I was able to improve my overall health and wellness. During the episode, we will touch on the changes I made to my diet and lifestyle that have helped me manage my insulin resistance. I'll also be sharing some of the supplements that have worked for me. If you're struggling with insulin resistance or want to learn more about how to manage it through healthy lifestyle choices, then be sure to tune in! Listen in as we talk about How it all stemmed from my fertility journey How my doctors reacted with prescriptions and medications My frustration with doctors not asking about my food, workout or lifestyle choices How food and nutrition changed my menstrual cycle The changes you can make to help insulin resistance Supplements that have worked for me Taking note of which habits you can switch out Episode Sponsored by Arbonne 30 Days To Healthy Living Do you love the show? Hey Friends, This week's episode is a real, in-the-moment story about something I've been experiencing over the last few weeks, which has been receiving an inheritance from my Grandmother (a.k.a my Apo) She passed away in March of 2022. At the time of this recording, it is the one year anniversary of us receiving the diagnosis that she was extremely sick and we only had months left with her. My Apo was a gift in my life in so many ways — from caring for me from a young age, to having the opportunity to care for her in other ways as she aged, having her as my Apo was truly one of my life's most beautiful treasures. After she passed, my family and I were blessed to have received an inheritance from her, thanks to all of the years she and my grandfather worked sacrificed for us. Listen in as we talk about Why it's so important to share what we're going through in the 'now' moment The emotional struggles that have come with saying goodbye to my wonderful Apo Navigating the grieving process a second time Money mindset blocks that come with receiving an inheritance How to plan what to do with your inheritance Learning how to be smart with your money and where you invest it Questioning and paying attention to my own legacy and future Defining your legacy when you don't have kids The fine balance of living in the moment and preparing for the future Getting a will and organizing your own assets Episode Sponsored by Arbonne and their instafamous Green Gut Glow Drink Do you love the show? Jessica Stephens is a 30 year old mum from Middlesbrough, United Kingdom (UK) who is affected with Ornithine Transcarbalmalyse, shortened as OTC Deficiency. Jessica lost her second baby, August, tragically to OTC deficiency when he was 3 days old in September 2020. It took around 9 months until she was diagnosed as a “carrier” of OTC. Jessica knew she still wanted to continue her family but with a 50% chance of passing on the gene variant again, she was unsure what to do. When she found out she was pregnant again in November 2021, she had a blood test to determine the sex of the baby, which confirmed he was a boy. She proceeded with a CVS to test the amniotic fluid and determine if her son was affected by OTC. Unfortunately, it was determined that her son did in fact have OTC deficiency as well. She decided that the kindest thing to do would be to end the pregnancy, as she couldn't bare the thought of him suffering in pain like his older brother. He was born silently on January 16, 2022, his family called him Blake Arthur Stephens. This is their story. As a disclaimer, this podcast series features sensitive topics. Have you ever experienced this before? Walking into a room and slowly noticing that no one looks like you? It's been a long time since I've felt this way, and attending a recent event reminded me of how painful this realization truly is. As a mixed woman of colour, I've had my fair share of experiences over the years, but I haven't experienced being the only person of colour in the room in a long time. I know there is still a lot of work that needs to be done within companies and communities in order to ensure there is equality and diversity across the board. I also know it's my mission to bring these conversations to light and transform the narrative within the spaces I'm in. I hope you take something away in this week's podcast episode, and if this episode will help someone else you know, please share it with them. Listen in as we talk about: How I felt attending an event and being the only visible minority there The importance of groups and spaces that are inclusive of all races and people of colour My mission in leading the change and showing up in rooms that need more diversity. Tips for you if you've been in a similar situation I'd love to connect with you: https://www.instagram.com/jess.loves.life/ https://jessicastephens.ca
