In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a recent USA Today article exploring the current divorce rates in the United States. The stats seem to vary based on state, religious affiliation, race, sexual orientation, occupation… even the number of times that someone has been married. They also noted that divorce rates tend to peak around the 5th year of marriage, and then again around the 15th to 20th year of marriage. Dr. White weighs in on why people get divorced. Episode Links Dr. White noted that a big shift happens in people's mindset when the romance fades and reality sets in. This was actually an installment of a series that he gave at Mecklenburg Community Church called “Marriage Mentoring.” You can find that entire series HERE. Another factor that can play a big role surrounds marking the dawn of the 30s. Another series that you may be interested in looking at is called “Seasons of Life,” and in particular the installment called “30s - The Age of Second Thoughts.” A final series that Dr. White delivered at Meck and which he mentioned in today's episode is called “The Lies We Believe About Marriage.” You can find that series HERE. Finally, Dr. White wrote a blog about how couples cohabiting before marriage can actually increase the rate of divorce, and why this is something that the church needs to teach on more often. Be sure to read “The Importance of Knowing Why and Casting Vision.” For those of you who are new to Church & Culture, we'd love to invite you to subscribe (for free of course) to the twice-weekly Church & Culture blog and check out the Daily Headline News - a collection of headlines from around the globe each weekday. Prof. Joel Pearson (Neuroscientist; AI and intuition expert) developed the first scientific test to measure intuition, dragging it out of the woo-woo realm and into a cognitive framework. He's now written The Intuition Toolkit: The New Science of Knowing What without Knowing Why to show us how and when to use this mysterious superpower in our lives (not while rock-climbing on a date, not at a casino!).Joel is the founder and Director of Future Minds Lab which applies neuroscience findings to art, AI, media, advertising and various philosophical quandaries. He's also a National Health and Medical Research Council fellow and Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of New South Wales, Australia. In this chat we cover when and how to use intuition, why intuition is hijacked by anxiety and depression, whether AI will ever be able to have intuition, aphantasia and a bunch of deep, wide questions about what it means to be human, including the Hard Problem of Consciousness. Mostly, Joel is a great conversationalist, someone you'd want to sit next to at a dinner party.SHOW NOTESGet Joel's book The Intuition Toolkit: The New Science of Knowing What without Knowing WhyFollow Joel on his Future Minds Lab Substack You might also like to listen to my WILD chat with Sheena Iyengar, the scientist who first ran those “paradox of choice” studiesAnd with George Paxinos, regarded as the world's leading brain expert on whether our brains are “good” enough to save the planetI mention the book Klara and the Sun by Kazuo IshiguroIf you need to know a bit more about me… head to my "about" pageFor more such conversations subscribe to my Substack newsletter, it's where I interact the most!Get your copy of my book, This One Wild and Precious LifeLet's connect on Instagram and WeAre8 Hosted on Acast. What comes up when you think about dreaming bigger? Does it feel light, expansive, fun, or does it bring up fear, doubt or questions?I ran a live event in Melbourne last week and spent the day with incredible business owners on this theme of dreaming bigger.Join me for some reflections on what it means to dream bigger and use these to reflect on what dreaming bigger might look like for YOU.1 - Going bigger doesn't need to mean achieving, doing or having MORE, it can be deeper, richer, simpler2 - Going too big in terms of outcomes CAN be overwhelming and demotivating UNLESS you break it down into smaller parts3 - Achieving big goals is NOT what makes us happy. You won't necessarily be happier if you achieve your big dream. You'll probably be just about as happy as you are now. Hedonic adaptation and impact bias. BUT working towards goals DOES make you happy.4 - You can focus on what DOES make you happier now. Sleep, movement, time affluence, controlling your mind (meditation), relationships - we know these are important but it's only valuable if you are doing what you know5 - Knowing WHY you want what you want makes a big differencePrevious episodes:Create your vision: https://www.alignandattract.com/blog/109My Intuitive program: http://alignandattract.com/intuitiveShare your insights with me on Instagram: http://instagram.com/kerryrowett
This week we delve into all things Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version), the final re-recording we have yet to discuss! When it comes to Taylor's 2006 debut album, the reclaimed version has a lot of potential we explore in this episode, including the possible album aesthetics, release and promo predictions, and of course what may be included on the tracklist. Alongside the standard and deluxe songs, we of course go through other music from the era that could make an appearance (Beautiful Eyes and Crazier!), as well as the LONG list of leaked music that could be given a chance to shine by featuring it as a From The Vault track. Considering the world of Taylor Swift's unreleased music is so vast, we discuss some of the biggest songs (I'd Lie and Permanent Marker), as well as many fan favourites (Dark Blue Tennessee, Songs About You, Just South of Knowing Why, Tell Me, R-E-V-E-N-G-E, and many more!). Finally, we also make a mention to the possible collaborators we'd love to see on debut, which include many amazing country artists!
You'd love to say you're over them, but you aren't. Knowing WHY you can't get closure is going to help you get closer to not thinking about them anymore.
Knowing Your Why AND Why Not Getting what you want in life will be two things… It will be easier than you can imagine or harder than you ever thought possible. The journey will be exciting and scary. Looking back, you will be glad you did it, yet wonder if you will ever do it again. That's why WHY is so important. You must know WHY you are doing anything to sustain your efforts. And it must be YOUR why, not somebody else's. You must own your WHY, understand your WHY, and live your WHY. Many folks are not clear on WHY, or they do it for others or other reasons. Sometimes, you might put up with one thing, hoping you'll get something else. I'm sure that you've found that's not the way it works. Remember, what you focus on expands. That means you'll get more of putting up with stuff if that's what you focus on. It's true. Knowing WHY you don't want to do something is as essential as knowing WHY you want something. At the junction where human and canine cultures meet, misunderstandings and frustrations abound. My clients often contact me in desperation, bewildered, puzzled, even grieved, by an unwanted behavior in their dog that they just can't seem to solve. As a dog trainer, if I had to identify a single unwanted canine behavior that MOST exasperates human owners, it would be this one...peeing in the house. Frustrated owners considering resigning themselves to a life of stained carpet, short tempers, hypervigilance, and strategically-placed, rapidly-accessible floor cleaning spray (with accompanying rag).So what's going on? Your dog KNOWS how to pee (and poop) outside. Why do they opt to deposit their waste inside when there's so many places to do so outside? Knowing WHY your dog pees (or even poops) inside your home is the key to adopting an effective strategy to address it.It's a podcast all about pee, today on the Canine Lowe-Down.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Knowing WHY you do something is WHAT keeps you going when the going gets tough. You may be good at what you do, but if you can find the WHY behind the WHAT, you will be more successful, more impactful, and have more success, which will translate into more finance and all that goes with it. Who doesn't want that? Finding your WHY can be a challenge and the No BS Gang takes it on this week, as we examine the "WHY" through the individual lens of our perspectives and experiences.
“People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do proves what you believe.” In this episode of the Books Made Me Do It podcast, Catherine shares with us how to communicate and adapt your mindset to inspire others, which she learned from Start With Why, written by Simon Sinek, author and inspirational speaker. He introduces the idea that great leaders inspire others by putting the Why (the purpose) before the How (the process) or the What (the product). By WHY, Sinek means what your purpose, cause or belief is? WHY does your company exist? WHY do you get out of bed every morning? And WHY should anyone care? Knowing WHY is essential for lasting success and the ability to avoid being lumped in with others. In this episode, Catherine will guide you through the process of understanding how to define your WHY. Are you ready to communicate like a leader, gain clarity on your WHY and inspire others to take action? ------------ For more tips on marketing, business and personal branding: ➡️ Follow our host Catherine Paquette on Instagram (@heyitscathp) ➡️ Visit Catherine's website: https://catherinepaquette.com/
When I quit my full-time job as an attorney in 2019 to focus on building my online business, it was a scary step — but a necessary one.It would have been even scarier if I'd known what was to come.2020 has caused many business owners to take a step back and revisit their plans, myself included.Back in 2019, I told myself that 2020 would be my million-dollar year. I even had it written on my vision board in big letters.By June, I knew it was time to rethink my 2020 goals. I made the decision to focus on ease and sustainability, rather than aggressive growth. This kept me aligned with my new word of the year, but also with the type of business and life that I wanted to create.During this time of chaos and uncertainty, my plans for my business have actually solidified, and I've discovered a new balance, which is more important to me right now than hitting that 7-figure mark.Knowing WHY you want to hit your goals is the key to knowing the right goals you should be working toward. Are your current goals in alignment with your overarching vision? Let's dig into it!In this episode, you'll discover:The lessons I learned while building a business during a pandemicHow to figure out whether you should be working toward a 6- or 7- figure business The simple, three step mantra that keeps me moving in alignment with my deeper goals“I treat my business the same way I have always treated any other thing I've done to make money… I want my work to be fulfilling, but I've got to love it.”— Tasha CochranHighlights: 01:19 Reflecting on pandemic entrepreneurship 05:30 The COVID pivot 07:48 Remember your biggest priorities 10:11 Should a million-dollar business be your goal? 13:53 2021: the year of Wealth Life Balance 17:00 Send your questions! Knowing Why and How to Compartmentalize
Knowing Why and How to Compartmentalize
As Entrepreneur, we have all these fascinating ideas that are floating around and it's difficult to just choose one idea. in Episode 9, we talked about the importance of focusing on one business idea at a time and how that can help you succeed in your business. In this episode we're going to discuss how you can choose the best idea for you.The important thing to keep in mind is that passion is important. Your chosen idea should allow you to infuse your passion into your business. This is where your greatness lies and it's linked to your WHY which we discussed in episode 8. Knowing WHY and what you're passionate about will help you get through difficult times and it will give you that added advantage to engage fully with your business.Assessments Method - The assessments method is one of the best strategies I use with my clients to choose an idea that's best for them and their business. This method helps you assess every aspect of your business and yourself to make sure that you are perfectly aligned with a business idea. Personal Assessment - The personal assessment will guide you on what you enjoy in life, what your passions are and what you really love doing. It will help you understand yourself better, so you can align well with your chosen business idea. Ask yourself: What are my values? What's important to me? What do I care about? What do I find meaningful and enjoyable? What do I currently do in my spare time that I love? What inspires me and makes me feel proud doing every day? Resources Assessment - The resources assessment will help you determine if you have the time and the capital required to pursuit a business idea. I often see clients limiting themselves because they don't have a lot of money to invest in their business. This forces them spend a lot of time and effort looking for investors instead of working on developing their business. I always recommend to go with the lean start-up method; to create a Minimum Viable Product/Service and grow from there. T Strengths Assessment - The strengths assessment will determine what your strengths are, so you can use those strengths to support your business. You want to create a business that will compliment your strengths and will let you capitalize on your natural strengths and abilities. Once you've completed your assessments, it's time to eliminate the ideas that are not best suited for you at this time.Step 1: Eliminate ideas that you're not passionate about, that don't inspire you and that you don't see yourself doing long-term. Step 2: Eliminate ideas that you don't have enough time and money to invest. This will help you focus on the ideas that you can start right away with your current situation. Step 3: At this stage you shouldn't have many ideas still on the list. Go through the remaining ideas and cross out the ones that don't complement your strengths and abilities. Step 4:To help you decide the best idea to choose, ask yourself which idea brings me the most joy. This will help you choose the idea that's closely aligned with your WHY and that you connect with at a deeper level. This is the idea that you want to focus on, because it will give you the fulfillment and the engagement that you need to sustain you and your business long-term.For more, visit www.theboundlessmindset.com

If we don’t know why we believe what we believe, then what we believe doesn’t matter.Like vaccinations that help defend you against diseases, knowing God’s truth will help you defend you. What you believe matters. Knowing WHY we believe what we believe, matters. This week we look at some "proofs" that the Bible is real and true and trustworthy.

Landscaping can be a tough business! But if you know your WHY it will make the HOW a heck of a lot easier. Knowing WHY you chose to run this kind of business will help you get through the not always so fun part of figuring out HOW to run your business.
m super pumped to share this book with you? I’ve read this book a few times, I’ve shared it with many.. and every single time, I am still getting gold nuggets out of it. This is one of the best books I’ve read, and should be a required reading for everyone who wants to succeed. This book is for anyone who wants to learn how successful people and organizations get others to buy into their vision, get their offering across clearly and lock in the direction of their business. You will find that this will seem like the worlds simplest idea, but despite that or maybe because it is, it is neglected or ignored. Often, I talk to my business friends, team and family about the importance of knowing WHY… Why they want to achieve something, why the chose a certain career path, and why they got into business in the first place, Knowing WHY, acts as a compass through the struggles of life and entrepreneurship. Simon’s book brings this up 50 levels higher and deeper. As a father at home and a leader in an organization, many of you and myself included, talk about WHAT plenty of times, Some talk about HOW, but very few of us really ever discuss or even know our WHY. And it is not just about the money either.

Today's Quote is from Shawn Sousa Click Below to Listen to Today's Show Victory is built on the backbone of defeat. ~~ Shawn Sousa Victory is build on the backbone of defeat. What if you don't know what victory or defeat is? The "wussification" of America was being discussed one evening while I was visiting my daughter and son-in-law. We were watching an ad for Kia Sorento on TV between time outs in a football game. The dad was taking his son to his Kia Sorento after a football awards ceremony. He asked his son to let him look at the trophy he was presented with and saw it was a "Participation" trophy. Under his breath he starts muttering about how the team won every game this year. Why does his team get a "Participation" trophy like everybody else. He proceeds to rip off the "Participant" label on the trophy and pulls out a marker and writes CHAMPS. He gets in the car and hands the trophy back to his son saying "Way to Go, Champ." I put the Kia Sorento ad from YouTube on the show notes page if you want to go look at it. The conversation started with my daughter and her husband, Shawn, and I about how we let people start believing that participating was the same as winning and losing; that it didn't matter if one team won or lost. We all started on our own rants about how bad this was. Kids need to understand the difference between losing and winning. If you don't feel the emotion of winning or losing, you don't build the strength, the fortitude you will need in life to get through the tough times. If the emotions are the same for winning and losing, what's the point of competing? When you are working to achieve your goals, you have to understand the feelings of winning or losing to be able to understand what it takes to get through the hard time. When you set a goal, the point is to achieve that goal. It's just like a game or sporting event. You are trying to score a goal! You are not just a participant. Just participating doesn't get a goal. You have to be active, you have to take action. You have to have the spirit to win to strive to achieve your goals. You have to know your WHY? Why am I trying to achieve this goal. If it doesn't matter if you win or not, or achieve your goal or not, then why be there. Knowing WHY you are playing and having the ability to feel the emotion it brings helps you do what it takes to achieve that goal. Go Out Today & Play to Win! Don't Just be a Participant. In this episode, we run through a few common mistakes Dr. Phillip Carlyle teaches through his SpinalFit program. But MORE importantly, we talk about what CrossFit coaches are doing RIGHT.
