Welcome to STRONGER BONES LIFESTYLE podcast. I am your host, Debi Robinson. I'm a yoga therapist and a functional health coach. I work with women to change the trajectory of their bone health once they receive a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia. At the age of 51, I had a total hip replacement. And I know how important strong and healthy bones are, to be active, to be happy, and to not feel fragile and breakable. It was a wakeup call for me, and it is now my mission to share all the natural approaches to maintaining strong healthy bones forever. With the help of yoga, and functional labs, I was able to uncover my root causes that led to my bone loss and reverse it from one DEXA scan to the next. On this podcast, we will be speaking with experts in the field that utilize natural approaches. And real women who have successfully managed their bone health and are living strong, active, confident life. We'll discuss the steps you need to take, and we'll uncover everything from the latest scientific findings and therapies to simple lifestyle changes you can make to improve your bone health every single day. Did you know that even on hormone replacement therapy, many women are still losing bone? I hear it all the time—“But I'm on BHRT…why are my bones still getting weaker?” And that's exactly what we're diving into today on the Stronger Bones Lifestyle podcast. I'm so excited to share this powerful episode with you because we're pulling back the curtain on hormone therapy and giving you real, practical answers.I'm joined by Dr. Nayan Patel, a compounding pharmacist who's trained over 5,000 physicians across the country on how to properly prescribe bioidentical hormones. We break down what most doctors get wrong about estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone—and how the way you take your hormones matters just as much as what you take. You'll learn why the right dose, delivery method, and hormone balance are essential for bone protection, and how lifestyle is still the foundation no matter what you're prescribed. Dr. Patel shares so much wisdom in this conversation—so grab a cup of tea and settle in, you're going to want to take notes!Key TakeawaysThe Role of Estrogen – Estrogen levels must be between 60–110 to effectively protect bones and prevent fractures.Progesterone's Dual Benefit – Oral progesterone supports bone formation and improves sleep and emotional balance.Testosterone's Impact – Testosterone is key for building muscle mass that supports and stabilizes aging bones. Why Hormone Delivery Matters – Applying creams to the inner labia ensures better absorption and fewer side effects than wrist or oral routes.Delayed BHRT Can Still Help – Women 10+ years post-menopause can start BHRT safely when guided by a knowledgeable provider.Understanding Hormone Balance – Feeling your best is the true marker of hormonal balance—not just lab numbers.Cancer History and Hormones – BHRT may not be safe for those with recent estrogen-sensitive cancers; timing and monitoring are critical.Lifestyle is 70% of the Solution – Managing stress, eating nutrient-dense foods, sleeping well, and moving intentionally are the true drivers of bone strength.Where to Find Our GuestAuro Wellness: https://aurowellness.com/Auro Wellness YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@aurowellnessAuro Wellness IG: https://www.instagram.com/AurowellnessLinks & ResourcesStronger Bones Lifestyle CommunityJoin a supportive space to strengthen your bones naturally with live sessions and masterclasses. Women Over 50: Your Vision Could Be the Key to Stronger Bones—Dr. Bryce Appelbaum Explains How

Have you ever considered that your eyesight might be affecting your bone health? In this episode of the Stronger Bones Lifestyle podcast, I sit down with Dr. Bryce Appelbaum, a functional eye doctor and neuro-optometrist who's connecting the dots between vision, balance, and your risk of falling and breaking a bone. As someone who works with women 50+, fall prevention is one of the top concerns I hear about—and Dr. Bryce is showing us that vision may be the missing piece in our bone health strategy. We talk about how vision drives balance, posture, and movement—and how poor visual processing, eye fatigue, and depth perception issues can increase your chances of falling. That means more risk for fractures and accelerating bone loss. You'll learn how strengthening your eye muscles, improving your visual flexibility, and understanding how your eyes and brain work together can support you in staying upright, active, and independent. This conversation is a powerful reminder that bone health starts in more places than we think—including your eyes!Key TakeawaysThe Eye-Brain-Bone Connection – Vision is essential to how we move through space, and poor visual processing can increase fall risk and lead to fractures and bone loss.Screen Time and Bone Health – Staring at screens weakens the eye muscles needed for balance and coordination, indirectly increasing the risk of falls and bone-related injuries.Depth Perception and Fractures – Loss of depth perception makes it harder to navigate curbs, stairs, and uneven ground, putting bones at risk of breaks and setbacks.Eyes as Bone-Supporting Muscles – Just like weight-bearing builds bone, training your eye muscles supports posture, stability, and safer movement.Vision, Posture, and Bone Loss – Misaligned vision affects posture and body mechanics, creating patterns that contribute to chronic stress on the bones and joints.Functional Vision for Stronger Bones – Eye-brain-body integration is crucial for fall prevention, making vision training a key strategy in protecting bone density.Aging Eyes, Aging Bones – As eye function becomes less flexible with age, so does your body's ability to adapt and avoid falls—unless you intervene with the right tools.Where to Find Our GuestDr. Bryce Appelbaum's resources are available at http://www.myvisionfirst.comTake the free online vision assessment at http://www.myvisionfirst.com/quizInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/drbryceappelbaumLinks & ResourcesStronger Bones Lifestyle CommunityJoin a supportive space to strengthen your bones naturally with live sessions and masterclasses. In this episode of the Stronger Bones Lifestyle podcast, I welcome back the amazing Carl Reader, a functional movement and exercise specialist who's helped so many women over 60 (especially those dealing with osteoporosis and arthritis) feel stronger and more confident in their bodies. You may remember Carl from episode 65 where we focused on lower body strength, and now he's back to talk upper body! We even get into the importance of energizing your spine, working with the fascia, and how to move smarter, not harder. It's such a great conversation, and I know you're going to take away some powerful tools for your own movement practice!Key TakeawaysThe Role of Posture and Pecs – Strengthening your chest and posture muscles is essential to maintaining alignment and minimizing spinal compression fractures.Understanding the Fear Factor – Exploring how fear of pain or re-injury can lead to weakness and immobility, and how to safely rebuild trust in your body. Why Core Connection Matters – Activating your core isn't about crunches—it's about charging the body's battery to support safe, strong upper body movement. The Importance of Wrist Mobility – Without proper wrist extension and strength, even minor falls can lead to fractures after 60.Smart Strength Training – You don't need heavy weights to build strength—functionally integrating breath, movement, and alignment creates real change. How Rotation Heals – Mobilizing the mid-back and incorporating spinal extension and rotation are game-changers for posture, pain relief, and better balance.Energy Flow and Fascia – Your fascia carries the energy and connection that lets muscles communicate, so movement should follow natural, functional lines.Where to Find Our GuestLearn more about Carl here: https://www.carlreadercoaching.comLinks & ResourcesStronger Bones Lifestyle CommunityJoin a supportive space to strengthen your bones naturally with live sessions and masterclasses. Her Sayana Medical Road Map goes beyond symptom management to address the full picture of what's going on inside, and her work has earned both peer and patient recognition, including the Best Doctors Women's Choice Award. We break down the real reasons your bones begin to weaken—hint: it's not just about calcium or age. Estrogen, cortisol, and inflammation are central players, and Dr. Sayana explains how they work together to either support or sabotage your bone strength. She also shares what most conventional doctors miss, including the power of Dutch hormone testing, inflammatory markers like CRP, and how you can finally get answers that connect the dots. You are in control of your body and your bones.Key TakeawaysEstrogen Is a Bone Builder – Dr. Sayana explains how the drop in estrogen during menopause removes the natural protection our bones need, contributing to osteoporosis and increased fracture risk.Stress Creates Hidden Bone Loss – Chronic cortisol weakens bone structure, even in women who “look healthy” on the outside.Inflammation Drives Bone Breakdown – Inflammation acts like a slow burn that quietly erodes your bone strength.Look Beyond the DEXA Scan – A clear DEXA doesn't mean your bones are resilient. Bone quality matters just as much as density.Functional Testing Gives You Answers – Tools like the Dutch test and CRP bloodwork show the deeper story behind your symptoms.Your Lifestyle Is the Foundation – Managing stress, eating anti-inflammatory foods, and supporting your hormones can rebuild bone from the inside out.Where to Find Our GuestDr. Sayana's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sayanamedicalDr. Sayana's Website: https://www.sayanamedical.comLinks & ResourcesStronger Bones Lifestyle CommunityJoin a supportive space to strengthen your bones naturally with live sessions and masterclasses. Dr. Evan Hirsch is a world-renowned fatigue expert and the creator of the EnergyMD Method, a clinically proven 4-step process to naturally resolve chronic fatigue and long COVID. In this deeply important conversation, we uncover how chronic fatigue, long COVID, and yes—bone loss—are all connected. If you've been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia and you're exhausted, overwhelmed, or scared of breaking a bone, this one's for you. These aren't isolated issues. They're symptoms of deeper dysfunction in the body. Evan and I walk through what I always talk about—the root causes—and why the traditional approach to bone health is flat-out missing the mark.We talk about toxins. We talk about trauma. We talk about the nervous system. And we talk about how your bones are not weak—they're depleted. From heavy metals to hormone disruptors to emotional patterns you inherited, this episode is going to open your eyes. If you're trying to take back control of your body and your bones, you'll want to hear how Evan's method has helped thousands of people get their energy back and rebuild from the inside out. Because bone health isn't just about density—it's about strength, quality, and resilience. And it starts here.Key TakeawaysThe Toxic 5 Framework – Dr. Hirsch breaks down how hidden toxins—like mold, metals, and chronic infections—are silently wrecking your bones and your energy.Bone Loss and Toxic Burden – Your bones are doing their best to protect you. When they break down, they're releasing toxins stored over decades. It's not a defect—it's survival. Why Lab Tests Often Miss the Mark – Just because your labs say "normal" doesn't mean your body is. If you're tired, inflamed, and losing bone, something deeper is going on.The 4-Step EnergyMD Process – We walk through Evan's practical approach: identify your causes, restore what's missing, prep your detox channels, and remove the junk. The Nervous System-Bone Health Connection – You can't rebuild a body that feels unsafe. Nervous system dysregulation blocks healing—even when you're doing everything else "right."You're Not Broken—You're Depleted – This is not your fault. And it's not yours forever. If you've ever felt scared or overwhelmed after a bone health diagnosis, this is the episode you need to hear.Key TakeawaysThe DEXA scan is outdated and often inaccurate, leading to unnecessary fear and reduced movement, which accelerates bone loss.Conventional medicine focuses on managing symptoms with pills, not addressing the root causes of bone loss.Functional medicine approaches look for the "why" of bone loss, empowering women to make meaningful changes.Bone strength and quality, not just density, are what truly matter for preventing fractures.Lifestyle changes like gut health optimization, proper nutrition, and weight-bearing exercises are essential for building fracture-resistant bones.Feeling strong mentally and physically can motivate continued positive changes in bone health.Feel empowered to take charge of your bone health?
