In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Jennifer Burnham-Grubbs. When Jennifer was a student at Princeton, all of her friends talked about how they were opening bank accounts. Jennifer decided she should have one too. She walked into a local bank, and the process seemed straightforward until she faced a question she hadn't anticipated. The teller asked Jennifer how much money she was going to deposit into the account. Jennifer didn't have any. She left the bank with a crucial realization that there were aspects of the financial world that she didn't yet understand. As you'll hear, Jennifer is a quick study. Jennifer is the founder and CEO of Quantum Insurance Services. Within the business, entertainment and high net worth circles of Southern California, she is renowned for her strategic insights into A-rated insurance products that build wealth, financial freedom and security. Rather than as just a bill to pay, Jennifer sees insurance as a gateway to wealth and well-being. Her unique background, expertise, and perspectives on insurance, tax and financial strategies shift the approach to guiding businesses and individuals who want to protect themselves, their families and employees while growing assets and savings. This approach has catapulted Jennifer into the spotlight as a leading female in the insurance sector, and positioned Quantum Insurance Services as an award-winning, innovative, client-focused financial wellbeing brokerage firm for health and wealth protection and growth. With over $100 million in insurance products under management, Jennifer provides athletes, celebrities, fast-growing businesses, high net worth individuals and everyday families with insurance designs for life, disability, long-term care, annuities, commercial risk and employee benefits. Her custom programs deliver safety, opportunity, income planning, and support for building and transferring generational wealth. As a top advisor to C-Level executives Jennifer is deeply committed to building wealth for the power of good, and especially passionate about building financial acumen in women. She is co-creator of the Wealth Mastery for Women™ monthly webinar series hosted by LeadHERship Global and the C-Suite Network, which encourages women to follow their purpose, mission, and dreams with increased financial confidence. She is also co-founder of Womxn of Wealth (WOW), a nonprofit foundation dedicated to helping women use money strategically, intelligently and successfully. A metaphor for the often intangible impediments, obstacles, and roadblocks that prevent women and minority groups from achieving the elevated professional success they may be capable of, Linda Fisk, CEO of LeadHERship Global, speaks about the glass ceiling and how to break it. Q&A with Linda: Q . What are some mistakes people make that keep them from breaking through this glass ceiling? A. My first recommendation is to raise your sensitivity to this. Did you know both male and female managers are twice as likely to hire men over women? We have to become aware of our implicit and explicit biases and guard against them, for example, when recruiting, use blind applications. Q. How can people be more assertive in a way that doesn't switch off the person they're trying to educate? A. Oftentimes we are blind to our own biases; we don't recognize the biases we operate under. What you can do: 1. Raise your sensitivity. Identify any glass ceilings you may be creating in your own organisation. 2.    Conduct blind screenings when recruiting. 3.    Hold regular bias and stereotype training. 4.    Have a sense of curiosity and respect for the differences among people. When people recognize that you're curious and respectful, respecting their differences and trying to deepen your own understanding of those differences, it can lead to wonderful dialogue and opportunities for learning. It can deepen not just understanding, but respect for the differences we all have. CEO and Founder of ZondraTV shares her Entrepreneurial Journey, fortified by Love, Drive and Grit  #PoisedforExit had the honor of interviewing Zondra Evans, CEO and Founder of ZondraTV, a multi award winning television network, carried by Amazon Fire, Roku and Apple TV. Before launching her network, Zondra spent 40 years in corporate America. At one point, she was laid off and decided it was time to pursue her dream creating opportunities for others to achieve their own dreams. From an interview to a talk show to a TV network, Zondra has become the go-to for unconventional TV programming.  She calls it "edu-tainment" television and it shows by the types of shows her studio produces. Shows like "A Moment in the Board Room", "LeadHERship Global", "Leadership Power" and "Giving Out Loud" among many others. Business shows with a social focus. Her network is expanding it's categories of shows as well and expanding into health and wellness, inspiration and several others. Zondra is a faith-filled person and often feels divinely directed to take action on various initiatives. These inspirations have become her strategy for growth and would be deemed  unconventional in 'professional' circles, but it works VERY well for her. The businesses who host and produce shows through ZondraTV have come to realize that conventional platforms to promote a business like Social Media and digital marketing campaigns are saturated. They all were looking for a way, as Zondra puts it, to "nest TV into their core business". Her goal is to become revered as the Home of Positive Programming. Listen to this amazing interview and you'll learn why. Find Zondra here. Thank you to our show sponsors! Dayta, JAK, Sunbelt Business Advisors and Trust PointWe would love to hear from you! Linda Fisk is an award-winning author, speaker, and university professor. Her mission is to amplify and extend the success of other high-caliber business leaders. She is the CEO and Founder of LeadHERship Global, a community of unstoppable women enhancing their leadership blueprint and embracing their power to be the best version of themselves. In this week's episode, she and Tom Fox discuss the challenges that come with leadership and how to overcome them.  Leadership Is a Passion  Tom asks Linda why she is so passionate about leadership and teaching others how to be effective leaders. She explains that throughout her career she has had the privilege to serve as the CEO or the CMO. From this position, she has witnessed first-hand “the transformational power of leaders coming together to solve problems, to advance solutions, to be able to tackle some of the most daunting issues our planet is facing today”. She explains that good leadership will always be the driving force behind a successful organization. She began studying leadership because she realized it was about making meaningful contributions to people's lives. She believes that while there are natural-born leaders – anyone can be an excellent leader. Origins of LeadHERship Tom asks what led to Linda founding LeadHERship Global. While working in the C-suite, she responds, she witnessed the magnitude of what stellar leadership does for the success of the organization. Linda wanted to create “a haven for women in leadership” – a community where all women could be successful, despite their race, background, religion, or socioeconomic position. She says, “All women around the world are worthy of being considered valuable, and they should be honored, and they should be allowed to advance their success.” Her company provides all the resources, tools, learning, and connections for these women to level the playing field with their male counterparts and achieve success. The Intervention of a Leadership Coach Tom asks, “When should I hire a leadership coach?” Linda believes that you should hire a leadership coach when you: need help navigating through real and potential conflict;  are trying to cultivate your executive presence; are polishing your leadership skills; are fostering a greater sense of work-life integration; or  want to create sustainable leadership practices.  Becoming a better leader means learning and practicing leadership skills. Hiring a coach means that you can get honest and objective feedback on the way your employees experience you as a leader.  Resources  Linda Fisk | LinkedIn | Twitter LeadHERship Global

Creating a high-performing team takes more than simply hiring the right people and arming them with the right tools to do their work. It requires creating opportunities for genuine, authentic relationships to develop. And, its well documented that authenticity contributes to workplace well-being and individual performance – and it lifts team performance as well.  When it comes to building extraordinary workplaces and high-performing teams, three psychological needs are essential: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Decades of research demonstrate that when people feel psychologically fulfilled, they tend to be healthier, happier, and more productive. Members of high-performing teams are significantly more likely to express positive emotions with their colleagues – they are more likely to compliment, joke with, and tease their teammates. In emails, they were more likely to use exclamation points, emojis, and GIFs – deepening a sense of authenticity as well as positive emotional connections. New research suggests that the highest-performing teams have found subtle ways of leveraging social connections – offering important clues on ways any organization can foster greater connectedness — even within a remote or hybrid work setting — to engineer higher-performing teams. Of those three essential needs, relatedness, or the desire to feel connected to others, has always been the trickiest for organizations to cultivate. It's one thing to attract talented employees — but how exactly do you get them to like each other? Welcome to this week's LeadHERship Global show where we will be discussing “How to be an Ally” with Deanna Singh, one of America's leading experts on transformational leadership and a highly regarded leader in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion. You know, we're taught to believe that hard work and dedication will lead to success, but that's not always the case. Gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation are among the many factors that affect our chances and it's up to each of us to be allies for those who face discrimination. Today, we're going to talk about how to support people who are underrepresented in the workplace. There's no magic wand for correcting diversity and inclusion. Change happens one person at a time, one act at a time, one word at a time. In fact, it doesn't take a special skill or talent to be an ally for marginalized groups. Anyone can do it. In fact, people of marginalized groups can and should be allies for each other as well. What is an ally? An ally recognizes that though they are not a member of a marginalized group(s) they support, they make a concerted effort to better understand the struggle of another's circumstances. Listen in to this week's podcast with Deanna Singh, author, speaker and Founder and Chief Change Agent of Flying Elephant, an umbrella organization for four social ventures!

Currently, Linda is interested in the psychology of influence, persuasion, and negotiation. Linda's message: Let's rewind the tape for a minute. Remember back in early 2020 -- an invisible and dangerous enemy was fast approaching: COVID-19. It was highly contagious, unpredictable, and deadly. So, what to do? How to prepare and respond? Leaders of cities, states, and countries faced an unprecedented test. The story of the spread and unthinkable human tragedies of COVID-19 is the ultimate case study in high-stakes leadership. The ones who passed this test with flying colors are disproportionately women. This is despite the fact that they make up only 7% of heads of state. And, none of us can afford to miss the lessons here. The number of COVID-related deaths is predicted to be substantially lower in areas where leaders acted sooner - even by a week. All leaders, including men, can learn from what we have seen women do in this crisis. This moment in history offers a fascinating and real-time opportunity to understand the consequences of leadership decisions in a high-stakes situation. Empathy wins in a crisis - Women leaders, they found, tend to slightly outperform men in most leadership skills. Often referred to as emotional intelligence, soft skills refer to any ability pertaining to the way you approach others or handle your professional life – and women tend to excel. Women have been proven to hold a key advantage in these soft skills--a study by global consulting firm Hay Group found that women outperform men in 11 of 12 key emotional intelligence competencies. But the difference in leadership between the genders grows larger during any sort of crisis. Female leaders express more awareness of fears that team members might be feeling, concern for well-being, and confidence in their plans. Included in these are essential leadership capabilities, common to most women, are things like: • Professionalism (self-motivation, work ethic, resilience) • The ability to network • Collaboration • Communication, both oral and written • Critical thinking More information at https://leadHERshipGlobal.com Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to the Kayleigh O'Keefe Show!   “If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together,” says Linda Fisk, CEO of LeadHERship Global. This African proverb speaks to one of the primary reasons Linda created LeadHERship Global, a community of unstoppable women that gives every member the support she needs to be heard, vulnerable and authentically herself.   Tune into this week's episode of The Kayleigh O'Keefe Show to learn more about: • Why grit and grace are key attributes of any unstoppable woman  • Why co-creation is more effective than going at it alone • Why kindness is crucial in any setting • And why being a lifelong learner will always pay off!   Quotes • “LeadHERship Global is a confidential, supportive community that's really designed to accelerate the success of every single individual member of LeadHERship Global by integrating self-directed learning, impactful group experiences, peer advisory services, and then, of course, expert-led coaching and mentoring. We believe that that is an incredible recipe for success and really helps enhance the leadership blueprint of unstoppable women around the world. It really helps them embrace their power to be the very best versions of themselves in work as well as in life.” (4:09-4:51) • “Women join LeadHERship Global to be challenged, to grow, to advance, and also to connect. To connect with other like-minded leaders where they get to be truly vulnerable and really authentic.” (7:20-7:33) • “There is incredible power in this idea of partnership and this idea of partnership that's based on mutual respect formed by extending trust. And it comes from a fundamental awareness of the key relationships in your life. Literally every relationship in your life can be seen as a potential partner rather than just a transaction.” (14:59-15:22) • “There's an old African proverb...which is, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together.' And that is absolutely true. True partnership is about identifying the shared value that each partner brings and then leveraging the combined strengths of those partners to achieve a level of impact that could never be accomplished independently.” (17:41-18:08) • “Using that area of influence or power that I was given to lift others up and support others has been absolutely probably my most important legacy and the thing that I'm most proud of.” (22:04-22:19) • “Beyond the value that you bring to work, beyond the kind of job that you do, beyond your competence, what really matters is your kindness because that is what changes everything. It changes cultures, it changes relationships, it changes partnerships, it changes the very fabric of the business itself if you operate with an incredible sense of kindness meaning that you're more interested in serving others than being served.” (26:14-26:48) • “No matter what the goal is, no matter what the long-term objective is, no matter how much grit you have, people are going to face setbacks. They're going to face mistakes, missteps, along the way, and that's where grace comes in. And I believe that true grace...is based on lessons that are often learned through experiencing the result of failure.” (37:24-37:47)   Links https://leadhershipglobal.com/ Email: linda@leadhershipglobal.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindafisk/    Visit Kayleigh's website: https://kayleighokeefe.com/ Schedule an Author Discovery Call: https://calendly.com/kayleigh-okeefe/solo-book-writing-publishing Apply to Soul Excellence Publishing's next multi-author leadership book: https://kayleighokeefe.typeform.com/to/BYpLilNc   Podcast production and show notes provided by FIRESIDE Marketing

In this episode I’m sharing some things I’ve been up to in the past year and what I’m doing for myself and my business in the coming months. For those of you who are new to Women Taking the Lead…hello and welcome! I’m Jodi Flynn and welcome to the Women Taking the Lead podcast. Being an executive leadership coach, author, speaker, workshop facilitator and I have the privilege to work with women leaders to hone the skills that will allow them to thrive in Senior Leadership. My absolute joy is to work with women who are still recovering from their last promotion. I am now settled in my new home in Norfolk, Virginia. And thanks to the beauty of technology, I’ve been able to continue to work with women all over the world as I transitioned from Maine to Massachusetts and on to Virginia. I do individual and group coaching as well as workshops and team retreats. I am the current President of the board for The Maine Women's Conference and on I’m the Board of Advisors for LeadHERship Global. There's Been a lot to Process I hope that this episode finds you healthy and well. There is so much change swirling around us right now and it’s so important for us to balance what needs to get done and be decided and taking time for yourself to pause and process everything that’s going on. Speaking of some things that are going on… Firstly, there are some exciting things going on behind the scenes with The Maine Women's Conference. We are actively producing our WeAreME Interview Series. This series features gritty, determined, and inspirational women from all over Maine. Sitting down live via Zoom to chat with a MEWC Board Member to share her story, the lessons she's learned, and her words of wisdom. In addition, participants on these calls have an opportunity to listen in and ask questions. The next WeAreME event is coming up on June 7th at 7 pm ET with Sherri Mitchell. Sherri is a Native American attorney, teacher, author, activist, and change-maker. Sherri will be sharing her story of advocating for Indigenous rights and environmental justice. Head over to TheMaineWomensConference.org to find out more! There’s also some exciting news coming out soon about The Maine Women's Conference 2021 event in November. Be sure you are subscribed to the Newsletter and or following The Maine Women's Conference on social media. You definitely don’t want to miss out! LeadHERship Global Secondly, I am also on the Board of Advisors for LeadHERship Global. LeadHERship Global is an incredibly impactful gathering of extraordinary women, connecting in a confidential, supportive and private community. Above all, LeadHERship Global is specifically designed for the unique opportunities and challenges of senior leaders. Members have access to independent, unbiased and expert advice on the most critical priorities facing leaders today, to accelerate their success. I've been taking advantage of the training, the virtual roundtables and networking opportunities the membership provides. What I love is there are plenty of opportunities to learn, network and get mentoring for your specific needs and stage in your career. You can find out more at LeadHerShipGlobal.com. Are you Active on LinkedIn? Thirdly, I’ve been getting much more active on LinkedIn and I’m really enjoying it. LinkedIn, for me, used to be a bit of a ghost town and the posts shared on LinkedIn were very formal. There are more people active on LinkedIn now and while the posts are primarily work and career related, which I like, they are much more engaging.  I’ve been active on these initiatives and working in my business. While that has brought me satisfaction and joy, I’ve also been feeling a pull recently to stop and reflect, and moreover, think about how I want to move forward with my business. And that includes the podcast. So many good things are happening right now. Moreover, I know I need to make sure everything I do is in service of my mission. That mission is serving you and making sure I’m providing what you need to overcome any self-doubt, so you can step gracefully into new levels of leadership and responsibility.   Hence, I need to slow down to process what’s been happening over the past 15 months, make some changes, and subsequently, come back refreshed and ready to support you. Are you thinking about making some new changes as well? I’d love to hear from you. Reach out to me at jodi@womentakingthelead.com or comment anywhere you find me on social media. Podcasts to Continue to Help You on Your Journey In the meantime, there is a back catalogue of 423 episodes! Can you believe that?!!! And rest assured, I’ll be back! I am a podcaster and I love this medium. And if you are looking for more great podcasts to listen to, here are some other podcasts I’m currently listening to on the regular. Today’s executives are dealing with a complex and unprecedented combination of social, environmental, market, and technological trends. These challenges require sophisticated, sustainability-based management. We know that consumers are shifting purchasing decisions to brands with integrity, social responsibility, and sustainability, at their core. Today’s consumers expect more transparency, honesty, and tangible positive social impact from companies and can choose from a raft of sustainable, competitively priced, high quality products. In fact, one study found that environmental and social responsibility was the only significant factor that affected respondents’ evaluation of a firm and intent to buy. Those companies that proactively make sustainability core to business strategy will drive innovation and engender enthusiasm and loyalty from employees, customers, suppliers, communities and investors. And, that’s why we’re so glad to welcome Stephanie Stahl, CEO and Co-Founder of Ace of Air, a circular beauty and wellness business launching in 2021, to LeadHERship Global podcast to talk with us about why sustainability is now mission critical for businesses in 2021.

Extending trust vs. earning trust Give your potential partners the benefit of the doubt. “Trust but verify” (old Russian proverb made famous by Ronald Reagan). Partnerships have a risk/ reward ratio where the potential benefits can far outweigh the risks. Employing trust and partnership is a new and better approach to problem solving. How the power of the partnership is built on harnessing each partner's key strengths and how to embrace transformation over transaction to achieve real, substantial change.
