Are you feeling that persistent whisper that there's something more for you professionally? In this conversation with Christina, career and mindset coach, we explore the reality of career transitions in midlife. Christina shares her personal journey from feeling trapped in a role that affected her health and relationships to creating a business that allows her to help women find careers that truly align with their strengths and values. This episode offers practical wisdom for women navigating their own career crossroads — whether considering a complete change, returning to work, or simply seeking more fulfilment.Key TakeawaysListen to your intuitionThose persistent nudges and whispers are signaling something important. Christina encourages following these "breadcrumbs" as they often lead to your most authentic path, even when the destination isn't yet clear. You don't need permissionMany midlife women feel they need external validation to make career changes. Christina's message is clear: "You have our permission to step forward and take the courage to do what you want to do."Uncover your patternsReflect on what you've enjoyed most (and least) throughout your career. Look for recurring themes to identify your true strengths and values—these become your compass for future decisions.Small steps create momentumYou don't need to make dramatic changes overnight. Taking incremental actions—volunteering for projects, shadowing others, or developing specific skills—prepares you for when the timing is right.Self-worth drives changeThe biggest barrier for many women isn't external circumstances but internal beliefs about being worthy of the career they truly desire. Addressing these beliefs is often the catalyst for transformation. If Christina's insights resonated with you, take a moment to journal about that "one thing you've been avoiding" in your career journey. What small step could you take this week toward a more fulfilling professional life? Remember, life doesn't end at 50—for many women, including Christina, that's when it truly begins to flourish. In this episode of the Lead to Soar podcast, host Michelle Redfern welcomes back Noa Rein, an organizational psychologist and HR advisor, to discuss navigating career crossroads. Together, they explore the concept of being the main character in your career story and the challenges of decision-making when faced with career transitions. Noa shares her expert insights on how individuals, especially women, can recognize when they are at a career crossroads, the emotions and fears that often accompany it, and how to take control of the narrative of their career. They also discuss the power of imagination, the importance of reflection, and practical tools to help people move forward with agency.Episode Highlights:What is a Career Crossroad?Noa defines a career crossroad as the moment when you recognize you're in transition. It's often marked by feelings of being stuck or lost, or external events like redundancy. While change can feel overwhelming, it's crucial to see it as an opportunity for growth.Internal vs. External Crossroads:Career transitions can be internally generated (e.g., feeling unfulfilled) or externally imposed (e.g., being laid off). Both require self-awareness and reflection to navigate.Recognizing Misalignment in Your Career:Noa emphasizes that feelings of “meh” or dissatisfaction can indicate a deeper misalignment between who you are now and what you're doing. These feelings are key signals that it's time for change. The Role of Imagination and Exploration:Career exploration begins with curiosity. Noa encourages using imagination to explore new possibilities without the immediate pressure to act. Asking questions like "What am I longing for?" can spark powerful insights.Agency in Career Transitions:Both Michelle and Noa discuss how understanding that you are the author of your own career story gives you agency. Reflecting on your experiences and considering alternative paths can empower you to make deliberate career decisions.Letting Go of the Past:One of the hardest parts of navigating a career crossroads is letting go of past investments, both emotional and professional. But letting go is essential to move forward and embrace new opportunities.Leadership Call to Action:1. Reflect on Your Current Path: Take a moment to assess your career satisfaction. Are you feeling aligned with your current work, or is there a “meh” sensation creeping in? Make time for self-reflection.2. Give Yourself Permission to Explore: Use your imagination to consider new possibilities without the pressure to act right away. What are you longing for in your career? Begin by allowing yourself to dream.3. Find Your Spark: Identify small moments or thoughts that stand out to you, like a spark on a blank page. Let those moments guide you toward deeper exploration.4. Practice Self-Compassion: As you navigate career transitions, show yourself kindness. Let go of the narrative that you need to have everything figured out immediately. Progress, not perfection, is key.5. Seek Support: Whether through a mentor, coach, or peer network like Lead to Soar, find a buddy who can support you through your transition. Remember, no one navigates their career alone.Connect with Noa on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/noaerein/?originalSubdomain=au or at Career Science: https://www.careerscience.com.au/index.html Hosted on Acast. First, 25+ winemakers poured at the Duck & the Peach - side note - I did record a show there with several of them — and then I was invited to the Smithsonian for an incredible evening honoring the winemakers - Napa Valley Wines in Changing Times with: -Andy Erickson, Favia; -Dawnine Dyer, Dyer Vineyard; -Doug Shafer, Shafer Vineyards; -and Martin M. And honestly, I am feeling a little old sitting here. Years ago when I started in this business I met his father, Surfy Rahman and Surfy's business partner chef K.N. Vinod when they opened Indique in Cleveland Park in 2002. These two men were part of an incredible wave of immigrant owned restaurants in this city that helped change not just the way we ate — deliciously — but also gave people a new point of view when it came to restaurants and the dining scene in this city. Want to know how to become a highly effective organizational consultant…the Disney way? Today's guests are my treasured colleagues Harold Hill and Luis Marrero. The three of us worked together as internal consultants at Walt Disney World before starting our consulting and coaching businesses. I'm not going to lie – this conversation was some of the most fun I have had on the podcast. I had a blast taking a trip down memory lane and deconstructing what it was about our experience as internal consultants at Disney that was so unique and powerful. You'll hear Harold and Luis validate everything you have listened to me share. They talk about what we did at Disney that was so effective, especially our intentionality around our consulting approach with clients and capturing our best practices into an online program that inspired the eCourse I created called the Consultant's Toolbox. If you want to learn more about the consulting approach we used at Disney and grow our practices, I got a holiday gift for you. I'm launching a brand-new masterclass that will show you how to make money and a difference as an organizational consultant. If you're like me and use the holidays as a time for reflection and personal development, this masterclass will give you new ideas and structure, plus a chance to get my full Consultant's Toolbox program at $100 off standard prices. Go to www.betsyjordyn.com/consulting-masterclass and sign up now. The other thing you'll love about my conversation with Harold and Luis is their journey into full-time business ownership. You'll hear how they have built businesses that use the best of who they are and, frankly, who they have always been. You're going to be inspired to see that the purpose, gifting, and passion inside of you truly are the best path to a business that is profitable and that you love. We also discussed why consultants today are so needed – especially given all the challenges facing senior leaders in this season. Ready for a behind-the-scenes peek into consulting the Disney way that you can apply and use to grow your organizational consulting effectiveness? Then let's do this! Nobody announced it, but it's becoming more and more popular. 20 years ago there was really one path where it was somebody in the C-suite and then they would go serve on a board and they went from working 80 hours a week to working 20 hours a week.
