(cyberpunk) نوعًا من أدب الخيال العلمي الذي يتميز بتمحوره حول العالم الافتراضي والتكنولوجيا المتقدمة، كما يتضمن العديد من العناصر الأخرى مثل الجريمة والفساد والتحرر والتمرد، ونوع من القصص الغامضة. يعود أصل الـ (cyberpunk)  إلى الأدب الخيال العلمي الذي ظهر في الستينات والسبعينات من القرن الماضي، ولكنه انتشر وازدهر في الثمانينات والتسعينات، وذلك بفضل العديد من الأعمال الشهيرة التي تناولت هذا الموضوع، مثل رواية "نيرومانسر" للكاتب وليام جيبسون التي صدرت في عام 1984.تعريف (cyberpunk)تأتي كلمة "سايبربانك" أو "سايبربونك" (Cyberpunk) من مزيج بين كلمتين:الأولى هي "سايبرنيتيكس" (Cybernetics) وهي تعني دراسة النظم الآلية والحيوية والتفاعل بينها.يشير مصطلح "سايبرنيتيكس" (Cybernetics) إلى دراسة النظم والآليات والتفاعلات بين الأجزاء المختلفة في الأنظمة الحيوية والآلية. ويتضمن هذا المصطلح فهم عام 1968:o      نوفا هي رواية خيال علمي من تأليف الكاتب الأمريكي صموئيل ديلاني ونشرت في عام 1968. تستكشف الرواية، التي تصنف رسميًا كعمل فضائي، السياسة والثقافة في مستقبل يتسم بانتشار تقنية السايبورج بشكل شامل (والرواية واحدة من سلفيات السايبربانك)، ولكن يمكن أن تنطوي صناعة القرارات الكبرى على استخدام بطاقات التاروت. تحمل الرواية نغمات أسطورية قوية، وترتبط على حد سواء بمسألة البحث عن الكأس المقدسة Call us Ishmael, because we've just landed our first white whale! In celebration of our first anniversary we've decided to cover the inestimable Willem Dafoe. Over two episodes we'll be looking at his long, varied screen career with Part One covering his work in the 80s and 90s. From Kathryn Bigelow's biker drama The Loveless to William Friedkin's amoral masterpiece To Live and Die in L.A. Dafoe's early film years were dominated by villains and dirtbags. This changed with Oliver Stone's Platoon scoring him his first of four Oscar nods and his first role as Willem Dafriend. More varied roles came in the tail end of the 80s with Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ and Alan Parker's Mississippi Burning. This led to his role as Bobby Peru in David Lynch's Wild At Heart, his first collaboration with Paul Schrader in 1992's Light Sleeper and his first collaboration with Abel Ferrara in New Rose Hotel. His ceaseless work ethic, iconic features and desire for challenge put him in good stead as the 90s gave way to the 2000s. Kenny and Brandon struggle to muster some amount of life and energy after gritting their teeth through an obscure Abel Ferarra film 'New Rose Hotel,' in which Walken is again let loose from his leash in his unhinged, wacky performance as an eccentric blah blah businessman blah blah. After discussing how obnoxious Abel Ferarra is in interviews, Afterwards, they read the plot of their next film 'Eternal' and fantasize about it being a fun, fish-out-of-water comedy, when it, in fact, seems like the complete opposite. In the "Walken in Our Shoes" segment, Kenny describes a documentary series he's working on about gay athletes, and Brandon talks about a No Small Parts video he'll be working on with Kenny about an Indian actor.

We talk some about John Carpenter, not so much about his rival John Demolisher. Scott compares New Rose Hotel to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Marcus likes that. Slavoj Zizeck explores filim. Therapy and self care is the bomb.

This month, Cody, Robert, and Nat check into the NEW ROSE HOTEL and discover a world of betrayal, loss, and regrets. Based on a short story by William Gibson, NEW ROSE HOTEL is an example of cyberpunk as two independent operators, played by Christopher Walken and Willem Dafoe, recruit a young woman, played by Asia Argento, to seduce a top scientist to defect from one corporation to another. Things don't go as planned, including Willem Dafoe falling in love with Asia Argento.   NEW ROSE HOTEL beat THE MATRIX to the screen, but they clearly have different purposes. As directed by Abel Ferrera, NEW ROSE HOTEL is more of a mood piece and a rumination than a sexy, exciting heist thriller. We have a lot to say about the film in regards to how it tells its story, William Gibson's world of corporate intrigue, its depiction of then-future technology, and the performances of Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe, and Asia Argento. There are some disagreements, but we like to think there's more light than heat here.   As a bonus, we have some personal news to share and we take a look back at year two of the podcast, discussing our favorite and least favorite movies and episodes.
