Artificial intelligence is a hot topic in 2024. Discussions about AI in health care continue to grow, including about the potential for such technology to improve care and save lives. What role might AI play in the 340B world? We speak with WVU Medicine Enterprise 340B Program Coordinator Elizabeth Gibson to learn how one health system is exploring this potential. What Can a 340B “Bot” Do?Gibson's team uses artificial intelligence to improve its 340B internal auditing processes. What they call “the bot” can streamline the process by pulling data from the health system's electronic medical records system and automating the administrative tasks required to set up an audit. The bot also can make the process more effective by increasing the number of audited claims and flagging potential problem areas. She noted this makes the team more prepared for the data they must collect for external 340B audits as well.Lessons Learned During ImplementationGibson said installing the bot for 340B use was a very “trial and error” approach, though the team was able to make quick changes to fix any issues they encountered. She said one of the biggest growing pains of the AI-based system was the time needed to make the tool operational. She also notes the bot may be clunkier than a product they would have purchased through an outside vendor because it is designed to allow the team to customize and modify as needed.Opening Eyes to the Benefits of AutomationGibson said this new tool has led to her team re-evaluating other 340B processes that they can automate, even if that does not involve AI. WVU also is considering potential bots that will look specifically at Medicaid claims and help conduct retail audits. She urged health systems to consider the concept of automation more broadly than AI, bots, and machine learning, as collaborating with other departments that can share automation skills could help improve overall 340B processes.

"Porn is like the junk food of healthy sex and relationships." Aaron and Rob interview Ian Henderson, founder of the Naked Truth Project. about how he got involved in this work of opening eyes and freeing lives from the damages of porn. While Naked Truth is based in Manchester, UK, they work with people all over the world. The "open eyes" aspect focuses on education to combat the normalization of porn by presenting in schools and elsewhere to raise awareness of the dangers of porn. The "freeing lives" portion focuses on those who have already been trapped in addiction, and also help for their partners. The work goes well beyond just stopping the behavior, moving individuals to healthy growth and reclaiming what was lost. sermon from 02-27-2022 Sermon Notes and Scripture References: Opening Eyes John 9:1-41 Exodus 40:36-38 36 The Israelites set out whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle throughout all the stages of their journey. 37 If the cloud was not taken up, they did not set out until the day it was taken up. 38 For the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and there was a fire inside the cloud by night, visible to the entire house of Israel throughout all the stages of their journey. John 8:20 20 He spoke these words by the treasury, while teaching in the temple. But no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come. John 8:12 12 Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” John 9:1-7 As he was passing by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” Jesus answered. “This came about so that God's works might be displayed in him. 4 We must do the works of him who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 After he said these things he spit on the ground, made some mud from the saliva, and spread the mud on his eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he left, washed, and came back seeing. John 9:27-34 27 “I already told you,” he said, “and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become his disciples too, do you?” 28 They ridiculed him: “You're that man's disciple, but we're Moses's disciples. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses. But this man—we don't know where he's from.” 30 “This is an amazing thing!” the man told them. “You don't know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31 We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does his will, he listens to him. 32 Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he wouldn't be able to do anything.” 34 “You were born entirely in sin,” they replied, “and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out. The Facts: The man was born blind. Jesus healed him on the Sabbath (vs. 14) The man was interviewed twice. His parents interviewed as well. Who is blind in this story? John 9:35-41 35 Jesus heard that they had thrown the man out, and when he found him, he asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36 “Who is he, Sir, that I may believe in him?” he asked. 37 Jesus answered, “You have seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” 38 “I believe, Lord!” he said, and he worshiped him. 39 Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, in order that those who do not see will see and those who do see will become blind.” 40 Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things and asked him, “We aren't blind too, are we?” 41 “If you were blind,” Jesus told them, “you wouldn't have sin. But now that you say, ‘We see,' your sin remains. Maybe the problem is not that Jesus doesn't agree with our worldview, but that your worldview can't accommodate what God is doing. How is your view of God's action not allowing Him to work in your life? Is your world large enough to encompass what God wants to do?

In this throwback conversation from the fall of 2018 we bring back lessons from a period of time when c@nnabis was being launched into Canada as a legal, heavily-regulated substance for adult recreational use. We summarize my conversation with Dr. Terry Lake, a recurring guest and speaker with our podcast and virtual events - who never fails to offer incredible, logical wisdom. Dr Lake has rich experience. He started in broadcasting, was a veterinarian, went into lecturing, moved on to be in politics (Minister of Health), and then Corporate Responsibility in an emerging field - ie: Cannabis (Hexo). He talks to Colleen about the deep and villainized history of c@nnabis and how Canada's legalization of it is miles ahead of its time and something that's worth being excited about. This is a knowledge translation of science and opinion from a truly expert source, on a controversial topic.

Why do we read from Luke (the Road to Emmaus) during Bright Week? This Gospel shows that the Lord will meet us, where we are, in the midst of our weakness. You do not need to be strong; the Lord will make you strong. You do not need to be smart; the Lord will make you smart. You do need to be faithful; the Lord will not make you faithful. You must have a burning heart. We discuss what a burning heart is, and how to attain it, and also how God opens eyes. Luke 24:12-35
