The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame unveiled its 2025 list of inductees, featuring trailblazing acts like OutKast and Salt-N-Pepa. OutKast—the influential Atlanta duo made up of Big Boi and André 3000—will be inducted into the Performer category, recognizing artists whose innovation reshaped the direction of rock and roll. Known for groundbreaking albums such as "ATLiens" and the Grammy-winning "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," the duo transformed Southern hip-hop during an era dominated by East and West Coast sounds. Salt-N-Pepa will receive the Musical Influence Award. Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, and DJ Spinderella paved the way for women in hip-hop with hits such as “Push It” and “Shoop.” The induction ceremony will take place Nov. 8 in Los Angeles. Hip Hop Hooray, Slackers!Today, we're diving into ‘80s rap—a new genre that was exploding right before our eyes. We'll cover the top-selling albums and the pioneers who started it all. Rap kicked off in the early ‘80s in New York City. LL Cool J's debut record Radio sold over a million units with “I Can't Live Without My Radio” as the lead single. Then Run-D.M.C.'s Raising Hell broke huge, selling three million copies, led by the first rock/rap hybrid track - their reimagining of Aerosmith's “Walk This Way.” The Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill hit ten million thanks to the massive anthem that was “Fight for Your Right (To Party).” Rick Rubin produced all three of these breathrough records.Eric B. & Rakim's Paid in Full sold a million records—“I Ain't No Joke” set a new bar. Seriously, it wasn't until I started revisiting this stuff that I recalled how ahead of his time Rakim really was.Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions moved a million units with songs like “Don't Believe the Hype” and “Bring the Noise,” merging hip hop with social commentary. N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton sold three million records with no radio support since almost all of it was censored. Only “Express Yourself” was clean enough to get airplay! Dr. Dre was already a genius in the studio - that album sounds amazing. On the pop side of rap was Salt-N-Pepa's “Push It,” DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with “Parents Just Don't Understand,” while the big dog was none other than MC Hammer's massively popular Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which sold ten million—“U Can't Touch This” was a party staple. For Gen X, rap was fresh and ours. These pioneers turned a street sound into a movement, selling millions on vinyl and cassettes.

This week, the gang is back for the last episode of the month! It's Movie Review timeeeee!!! But we come in hot (2:43) with "Hate or Love It" by The Game and 50 Cent celebrating our 10k plays milestone this past week! We catch up real quick, Naomie had a dream about Danny betraying her (7:02) and woke up mad at him during the week. Y'all gotta hear this hilarious story!! LOL!!! Then Naomie poses the question of the week (25:53) on falling in love with an opp of a friend and if the beef stops at that point. Danny crashed out upon hearing this question of course! LOL!! Then on the main portion (1:01:39) of the show, we return with Salt-N-Pepa "Push It" and we discuss and review the movie, "Back in Action" in what would be Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx' comeback to the big screen. We highlight our favorite scenes, life moments, best stunts, action, and funniest cuts. Of course, this review wasn't without a few necessary digressions from your faves because we do love a little drama of our own. Finally, we rate the movie based on our famous SPP system ranking the storyline, production, and performance on a scale of 1 - 5. We also discuss new movies and music that dropped this past week and close out with Sisqo's "Thong Song". Enjoy the show! The process of curating this final entry in the series has been anything but smooth—starting and stopping more times than I'd like to admit. Normally, I prefer to have everything in place and finish a set in one go, but the lack of standout releases made this a real challenge. That's not to say there aren't any gems in this mix. Quite the opposite—through persistence and digging deep across DJ services, Beatport, and even Spotify, I uncovered tracks that truly move me. And if they move me, I know they'll bring my followers to the dancefloor. Party Favorz doesn't stop until the job is done. This set features several updated throwbacks, many of which are making waves on DJ charts, while others may have flown under the radar—until now. As always, Party Favorz is here to bring the best to light. Highlights include: Diplo's rework of Gala's '90s Eurodance anthem "Freed From Desire." David Timothy's fresh take on Billie Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms." Tommy MC's reimagining of Jody Watley's '80s classic "Don't You Want Me." Stuart Ojelay's heavenly spin on Danny Tenaglia's "Music Is the Answer." Stone Van Brooken's faithful update of Faithless' "Insomnia." Block & Crown's transformation of The Fugees' "Ready or Not" into a House anthem. TLC's celebratory House remix of their hit "Creep" for CrazySexyCool's 30th anniversary. Cosmic Dawn's Afro House remix of Everything But the Girl's "Missing." Most of these reworks remain true to the original while modernizing them for today's dancefloors. Exceptions like TLC's "Creep" lean heavily into reinvention, but it works beautifully. The trend of revamping classics continues with notable remakes, such as: Ava Max's rendition of "Forever Young." Ku De Ta's "Dance I Said," sampling Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It." Alesso & John Alto's update of Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Matt Sassari & Hugel's faithful revival of Sonique's "It Feels So Good," featuring a new vocalist. Jax Jones, Azteck, and Norma Jean Martine's fresh take on the Rihanna riff from Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie." It seems the trend of revamping tracks from yesteryear—be it from parents' record collections or early CD libraries—is here to stay. When done right, these reworks breathe new life into the dancefloor. Clocking in at just over three hours, this set blends fresh, new releases with timeless reworks, making it a strong contender for your end-of-year holiday parties. And the fun doesn't stop here—our Top Dance Songs of the Year set drops in a few weeks,
Send us a textGet ready for the touching story of a podcast and his right hand because this episode, Filmshake is talking 1999's horror comedy, Idle Hands. We're split on this episode like two stoners over the last hit, resulting in one of the funniest arguments we've ever had: is Idle Hands dumb on purpose, or is it just dumb? All that arguing gave us the munchies, so for a few minutes we also (mildly, and at a few times forgetting our point) argued about that same year's Teaching Mrs. Tingle. Then we fell asleep.Music Heard This Episode:"Idle Hands Theme" -- Graeme Revell"Dragula" -- Rob Zombie (Hot Rod Herman Remix)"I Wanna Be Sedated -- The Offspring (Ramones Cover)"Push It" -- Static-XIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

We discuss the recent animation of the William Hartnell story, The Celestial Toymaker. Overall, we think it successfully presented a boring, at times, story that is hard to follow with moving images for episodes 1–3 missing. Ben would like to see the animators push it even further away from the original broadcast visuals. David would have preferred the guest cast's likeness to be better expressed in the animation designs for the clowns, cards, and toys. The opening music is from The Celestial Toymaker, incidental music composed by Dudley Simpson. The closing music is "Push It" by Salt-n-Pepa. We recorded this episode on 22 July 2024.
Les, Kurt, and Jason travel back to their 2021 episode about Salt-N-Pepa, a film that kick-off a new Lifetime genre: the black lady entertainer biopic that taught us that Push It was recorded in a bathroom. Do with that information what you will. Rick Mercer started his career as a media critic of sorts. He broke into the national consciousness with a one man show taking on an establishment journalist, called Show Me the Button: I'll Push It (or Charles Lynch Must Die). He talks to Jesse about his path from angry young outsider to palling around with politicians on TV. He also talks about developing his pioneering blend of news and comedy in This Hour Has 22 Minutes and The Mercer Report, why he wouldn't do Talking to Americans in the Youtube age, and why political satire in Canada is far friendlier than its American counterpart. YEAH, PUSH IT! PUSH IT REAL GOOD! WITH YOUR MIND, THOUGH, NOT YOUR HANDS. It's mind over matter as Gabe and returning guest Jim Laczkowski take a look at more movies about the potential power of the human brain. This time, we're focusing on something a little less esoteric than Existential State Manipulation: telekinesis. But we're not covering the big names – no Carrie, no superhero movies, no Star Wars, not even Zapped. Instead, we're talking about Jack Gold's The Medusa Touch (1978), Roland Emmerich's Making Contact (aka: Joey, 1985), Pierre David's Scanner Cop (1994), and Yeon Sang-ho's Psychokinesis (Korean: Yeom-lyeok, 2018). Pennyworth Season 3 Episode 7 “Don't Push It” Synopsis Episode Written by: John Stephens Episode Directed By: Danny Cannon Following Alfred Pennyworth's promise to Miss Zahra Khin, to find and bring back her incarcerated father, he and Dave boy search the Outer Hebrides of Northern Scotland for any sign of the prison he's held in. After a wasted day searching Alfie is bothered by seeing an impossible boy in the desolate landscape. As she tries to use her mysterious mind altering tools to “Fix” Alfie, he's saved by Lucius Fox and Dave Boy. STRIKE A CHORD 4 piece Punk/Garage/Lo-Fi band Deaf Lingo joins STRIKE A CHORD live from Milan, Italy to discuss their upcoming album Lingonberry, dropping on April 29, 2022. Lead singer Sandro and Gabriele waste no time seducing Marissa with their sexy Italian accents. Do Italians find American accents sexy? Punk bands always have the most interesting names but what inspired Deaf Lingo's band name?—strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry? What the hell is a Lingonberry? — Italian IKEA has the answer! Recording studios are costly and when you're an upcoming Italian Punk band on a budget you're hungry and ready to rock, so naturally record your album at a pizzeria?! Their new track “Push It” has nothing to do with sliding pizza in an oven and more to do with doing nothing and enjoying it — “why have ambition when you're going to die!” “Sleeping” has a catchy baseline, an electrifying solo with raw vocals that grab your ears by the lobes — much like a heavy relationship absorbs your attention to the point you can't see anything else. Grab your gold microphone and rock out to “Friends.” Just picture Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey jumping on a couch, blasting an air guitar and head banging in a mosh pit! Follow and listen to Deaf Lingo: https://www.facebook.com/deaflingo
