Italian Wine Podcast Episode 431: Stevie Kim and Professor Attilio Scienza call Monty Waldin at home in Montalcino. THIS IS THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, DUBBED VERSION OF THE PODCAST. FIND THE ORIGINAL ITALIAN RECORDING IN EPISODE 430 RELEASED NOVEMBER 3, 2020. Worlds are colliding. We at the Italian Wine Podcast have long dreamed of finally connecting all three of these personalities to form an Italian wine supergroup, so to speak. This is the Italian wine equivalent of Led Zeppelin, Wu Tang Clan, and Gogol Bordello coming together to play a sold-out San Siro Stadium. The call was completely unscripted and it started off with the usual banter as Stevie and Attilio disturbed Monty from what we can only imagine was a morning spent tending the biodynamic garden out back. Eventually, Stevie was called away on a secret side mission, leaving Monty to quiz the Professor regarding the 2020 grape harvest all up and down the Italian peninsula. Enjoy this experimental episode that, in essence, turned into a 2020 harvest report. For the English language recording Margherita Andrenacci played the voice of Stevie Kim, Rebecca Lawrence played the voice of Professor Attilio Scienza, and Jacopo Fanciulli played the voice of Monty Waldin. ENJOY!!!

In this episode, I got to talk with award-winning children's book illustrator Marjorie Crosby-Fairall. She is based out of Australia. Here is more about Marjorie. When I was a little girl I escaped to the library as often as possible where I spent hours devouring picture books and minutely examining their illustrations. I was very young when I decided to become an illustrator like my then-favorite illustrator C.W. Anderson (what little girl doesn’t love horse drawings?). Encouraged by my creative family, I gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Northern Illinois University. Following my move to Australia, I worked in many areas of illustration, including picture book illustrations. I live in Sydney with my husband and son and spend my days happily illustrating books in the company of my dog, Junior. I love to experiment with new techniques for my illustrations, but always seem to return to my beloved and well-used color pencils. Released November 2016, One Christmas Eve (by Corinne Fenton for Black Dog Books an imprint of Walker Books) was the inspiration for the 2016 Meyer Christmas Windows in Melbourne. I was awarded the CBCA Eve Pownall Award for my first picture book, Killer Plants (Penguin). My books appear on the Premier’s Reading Challenge lists and have been shortlisted or won awards, including My Little World (Omnibus), which was shortlisted for the 2012 Wilderness Society Environment Award, and The Croc & the Platypus (Walker Books), which was shortlisted for the 2015 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year. In part 2 of our discussion with elite coach MICHAEL JOYCE, he discusses his transition from player to coach; he breaks down the truth behind the Sharapova substance-abuse scandal; he tells how a seminal work of tennis writing came to be; and he lets us know who he thinks is the greatest coach of all time. Oh, and if that's not enough, he explains his connection to one of the most scandalous murders in recent history. Meldonium, The Mendez Brothers and more in part 2 of our discussion with elite coach MICHAEL JOYCE. Michael Joyce is a world class player and the subject of David Foster Wallace's seminal story in Esquire magazine. "String Theory." But perhaps he's best known as one of the top coaches in women's tennis. A fixture on the tour, Joyce has worked with Azarenka, Konta, Pegula and Bouchard. And he coached Maria Sharapova through three major championships and to #1 in the world. Currently, he's working with Timea Babos. According to the 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability, 1 in 5 Canadians between 25-64 years of age have at least one disability. That means there are about 4 million adults experiencing limitations - including physical, chronic pain, cognitive, and mental health issues - many of which are not immediately apparent to others. Accommodating workers with these nonvisible disabilities is not just a legal requirement, but it also makes good business sense. Released: November 26, 2019 File Size: 4.7 MB Length: 5:29 minutes
Michael Joyce came up deep in the Southern California tennis scene: brushing shoulders with the rich and infamous; playing tennis with fabled champions; and receiving instruction from legendary coaches. After an illustrious junior career in which he finaled Junior Wimbledon and won Kalamazoo, Joyce went pro and caught the attention of David Foster Wallace who subsequently wrote one of the seminal articles about tennis about him. As a player, he beat Courier, Becker, Kafelnikov and many more. But he’s probably best known as one of the top elite coaches on the tour. He’s worked with Azaranka, Konta, Pegula and Bouchard. And he coached Maria Sharapova through three major championships and to #1 in the world. The man has so many stories and so much insight we just couldn’t fit it into a single episode. So here is part 1 where Joyce discusses the machinations of coaching at the highest level. He tells us what it was like to grow up with a tennis obsessed father who learned tennis in Plummer Park from legends like Bill Tilden and Pancho Gonzales. And he shares the story of what exactly happened with him and Genie Bouchard. We met up with Michael during the US Open where he was coaching Timea Babos the Hungarian best known for her #1 doubles ranking. (Recorded August 26, 2019. Every year in Canada, hundreds of workers experience carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Many survive, but others are not so fortunate. During the winter months, this odourless, colourless, deadly gas creeps back into the spotlight. The heightened concern is due in part to the increased use of furnaces, space heaters and generators, as we try to escape the cold, but also because of the use of fuel burning tools indoors. Understand the hazards of carbon monoxide and how to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Released: November 29, 2018 File Size: 6.5 MB Length: 7:00 minute

This episode we're deep in the heart of Utah for Big Love (2006), a well-written/produced/acted drama about plural marriage that some of the hoopleheads find deeply troubling due to the current state of the world. After we discuss "Sopranos in Mormon-town" we dig into America's fucked up laws regarding marriage and consent, and--gosh darn it all to heck--we have questions for you, New Hampshire. (6:25-1:14:33) ... In the premiere of Five Days (2007), a missing woman and her missing kids spark a stonking amount of questions, like: Is everyone in England a sexual predator? How do English people pronounce the letter "F?" Are they comfortable being filmed 24/7? Where even is this? (They claim London, but we're not convinced.) (1:14:34-2:12:06) ... Also, the "choose your perspective" app Mosaic, and forthcoming mini-series Chernobyl. (0-6:24) | Send feedback to hooplecast@gmail.com. 023: Planning on Holiday Treats? Know What You're Getting Into. Released: November 16, 2017 To treat, or not to treat. That is the question. If you are going to indulge this holiday season, it's important that you know what you're getting into so you can stare the consequences in the eye and deal with them like the LCHF warrior you are. Adam and Anne talk about what you can really expect from that "harmless" Christmas cookie or vacation indulgence so that you can make an informed decision about whether you are "safe" to have a treat in the first place, and how to get back on track when you do. A personal promise from Anne: We are NOT going to continue to talk about holiday treats after this episode. We've covered how to handle judgy family who comment on the fact that you aren't having treats, we talked to Anna Vocino about having a day or two of indulgence and getting back on track, and this episode is really about making sure you have your eyes open so you can make an informed decision for youself and act accordingly. Holiday treats have been covered and we're going to move on from this now. (This episode was recorded the same day as episode 22, so we were still working without our soundboard. Appologies for the sound quality!) Many thanks to Lee Rosevere at Free Music Archive for the music we use in the podcast! Pitting John Carpenter’s artistic gore-fest “The Thing (http://amzn.to/2fN8CMa) ” (1982) against Ridley Scott’s atmospheric nightmare “Alien” (1979) they break down man’s struggle against the unknown, and the dark intentions of an evil that lurks in the furthest reaches of outer space. Now that we've wrapped Deadwood, what is a hooplehead to do? Why, cover every. single. fucking. HBO drama series since the very fucking beginning, of course. This is the first installment of "Phase II" of the podcast in which we tackle the premieres of all HBO dramas chronologically. ... Marlowe and his "Girl Friday" protect a mob snitch in Raymond Chandler's The Pencil. (11:15-1:05:50) ... Then we discuss the ridiculous "prison as summer camp" Maximum Security (1984) in which hardened criminals share their emotional problems and footrace for stereos with absolutely no supervision. Jean Smart plays reckless psychiatrist Dr. Alison Brody. (1:05:51-2:24:37) ... Also, we discuss a few projects in development at the network, including the Vince Gilligan penned mini-series "Raven" about the Jonestown massacre, and Alan Ball's new blended family drama featuring Holly Hunter.
