Edición especial!! En esta oportunidad conversamos con Fernanda Vilela @equilibre.fernanda de São Paulo en torno al campo de la mediación en artes circenses. Fernanda, actúa cultivando relaciones humanas, productivas y creativas en: gestión y producción cultural, acompañamiento de artistas, circulación nacional e internacional de espectáculos,festivales, residencias, intercambio cultural y artístico. ¿Cómo es el diálogo del circo como comunidad y en relación con lo público? ¿Qué procesos curatoriales y de gestión ya se están sucediendo y con qué criterios? ¿Qué diversidad de perspectivas están implicadas en quienes están en el lugar de toma de decisiones?
En términos generales el circo proviene del legado cultural que nos han dejado las antiguas civilizaciones desde Oriente hasta Occidente, cuyos orígenes están en China, Grecia y Roma unos 3.000 años atrás. Nuestro invitado el arqueólogo Néstor F. Marqués, autor de “Un año en la antigua Roma”, nos hablará de lo que se hacía en un circo romano, de sus aspectos lúdicos y religiosos, de las carreras de cuadrigas y de todo lo relacionado con el Circo Máximo de Roma. Por su parte, David Sentinella nos hablará de la importancia de la Comedia del Arte en la creación de personajes que se convierten en antecedentes de los payasos, como son Pierrot, Arlequín o Polichinela. Carlos Canales relatará la evolución del circo moderno desde el siglo XVIII y la paulatina desaparición de los animales. Marcos Carrasco sobre los personajes circenses que pintaron en sus cuadros Degas, Chagall, Dalí o Picasso. Juan Ignacio Cuesta nos contará la anécdota de cuando fundó La linterna vallecana, dedicada a este tipo de eventos. Jesús Callejo mencionará a Belzoni, P. T. Barnum o Búfalo Bill como genuinos representantes de un espectáculo ya pasado de moda. Y Pepa Llausas glosará la película “Agua para elefantes”, para terminar, damas y caballeros, con las valiosas enseñanzas del payaso-médico Patch Adams.

@cirqueresorganizades es una colectiva circense, autoconvocada, autogestiva y transfeminista conformada por mujeres, lesbianas, no binaries, personas intersex y varones trans que nació en abril de 2018 en Buenos Aires, en el marco de la lucha por la despenalización y legalización del aborto en Argentina. Desde su conformación la colectiva realiza talleres sobre género en el circo, intervenciones artivistas en el espacio público en contextos de protesta y varietés. Asimismo, ha creado un Protocolo de Violencia de Género para espacios de circo que actualmente se utiliza en varias escuelas de circo del país y últimamente ha sido re-apropiado por espacios circenses y agrupaciones de otros países de Latinoamérica.

Allen & Rossi - Sway (1976) POACA will recall Marty Allen's ubiquitous presence on 70s talk shows and game shows. Whether they like it or not. Naw, he was funny! More Allen and Rossi vinyl to come! From Both Sides Now, a wonderful resource for people wanting to know the stories behind the labels: The Calla label started in 1965 as an independent New York label, owned by Nathan (Nate) McCalla. Calla hit big with J.J. Jackson's "But It's Alright" in 1966, a song recorded in England with British musicians backing Jackson, and then turned this 45 hit into an LP of the same name. Calla licensed the rights to J.J. Jackson's material to Warner Brothers sometime later, and the same song re-charted in 1969 on WB. Other artists on the label included The Sandpebbles, Jean Wells, Billy Mitchell, and Betty LaVette, Rudy Love, and The Persuaders. Early singles and possibly the first album were distributed by Cameo-Parkway, but Cameo-Parkway soon ran into problems staying in business. With Cameo-Parkway on the rocks, McCalla decided to do his own distribution. McCalla was a friend of Morris Levy and was part of the Roulette Records group of labels, but operated independently as far as distribution. This worked well until 1972 when the material seemed to dry up. Calla was all but inactive for the 1972-1975 years. But in 1976, Calla issued a handful of albums distributed by a company called Shakat Records. The albums that sold well were shifted to CBS for distribution later that same year, and CBS eventually reissued several of the Calla albums on Epic, with a small Calla logo. Calla shut its doors in 1977 when Nate McCalla decided to go on an extended stay outside the United States. When he returned in 1980, he was soon murdered. Like many record company execs, Nate McCalla was less of a studio man and more of an office man, one who knew what he liked, signing a wide variety of musical genres to his label. He leaves a relatively small but quite interesting musical legacy. Dennis Parker - New York By Night (1979) 12" Mix. Dennis Parker - Like An Eagle (1979) 12" Mix" Look at this guy. Just look at him. Sweat. Muscle. Mmmm. I think I'm gay now. Actually, he did straight porn AND gay, and he hooked up with Jacques Morali, and then made this album. I actually like it. As disco goes, it's in the hands of the master. And so was Dennis, for a while. Side One of "The Gene Pitney Show" (1966): This is a fake live album, with Joe O'Brien as emcee. The album features several Musicor acts of the time, many of whom never had an LP release, meaning that this album is the only place to find some of these songs in stereo. I believe this album was meant as a ploy to get more exposure to other Musicor acts by having their biggest star (Pitney) "appear" with the others in concert. However, as stated earlier, this is a fake live album, and a poorly done one. Crowd noises are added in at seemingly random points in the songs, some of the sound effects weren't properly cued up so you can hear the FX record gain speed. On top of this, Joe O'Brien randomly starts speaking at random points on some tracks. If it weren't for the hard-to-find songs (in stereo or mono) this would be just a waste of vinyl. Elliot Lurie - Rich Girl (1976) Elliot Lurie - Disco (1975) I have raised 3 children, done thousands of gigs, won Musician of the Year in High School, etc., but NOTHING gives me more pleasure than doing my imitation of Elliot Lurie. Therapy - Fantasia on Eleanor Rigby (1975) Sleeve notes: "This album, our third, is a selection of material which can be heard at a typical Therapy performance." I'm the Greatest - David Hentschel (1975) Phil Collins on drums. Selections from Side One of Les Humphries Singers' "Carnival" album (1973) WHICH I OWN!!: Kentucky Dew Do-Da Lonely Kind of Man Square Dance Les Humphries was not a bad songwriter at all. Somewhat derivative in places, but mostly inoffensive pop in the vein of Gilbert O'Sullivan or a young Elton John after a night out. Os Mutantes - Panis et Circenses (1970) English version. Translates to "Bread and Circuses". Os Mutantes - I Feel A Little Spaced (1970) English version of "Ando Meio Desligado". These are not bad. I think the songs are so good and the performances so sincere and unaffected that they transcend our clunky lexicon. They must have done this to expand their audience in the USA. It didn't work but I'm glad they released this at all. Escreveu dois livros: Circo-teatro: Benjamim de Oliveira e a teatralidade circense no Brasil (Altana, 2007); e Respeitável Público... o circo em cena, em coautoria com Luiz Alberto de Abreu (Funarte, 2009). Desenvolve atividades de formação e de pesquisa na Escola Nacional de Circo - Funarte (RJ); é co-coordenadora do Grupo Circus - FEF-Unicamp, e coordenadora, com Daniel de Carvalho Lopes do site www.circonteudo.com.br, um vasto banco de dados sobre a arte circense no Brasil e que tem sido referência para trabalhos acadêmicos no campo da história da cultura e das artes cênicas. Em junho de 1968, o tropicalismo fervilhava a cena cultural brasileira e Os Mutantes funcionavam mais ou menos como motor de uma engrenagem que seria freada em dois momentos específicos: o decreto do AI5, que dissolveu à força o movimento liderado por Caetano Veloso e Gilberto Gil; e a posterior saída de Rita Lee, que mancharia para sempre a história da banda pioneira no experimentalismo no rock brasileiro. Em 1967, por indicação do maestro Rogério Duprat, conhecem Gilberto Gil. A partir disso gravaram duas canções junto com Gil: "Bom Dia" e "Domingo no Parque" com a qual participaram, junto do compositor baiano, da estréia tropicalista no III Festival de Música Popular Brasileira, ficando com o segundo lugar. A banda também participou do "disco-manifesto" Tropicalia ou Panis et Circencis, um dos mais importantes da música brasileira, participaram nas gravações de discos de Gilberto Gil e Caetano Veloso e fizeram comerciais televisivos e jingles para a Shell. O álbum foi gravado no inicio do ano de 1968, com a produção de Manoel Barenbein e arranjos de Rogério Duprat. Autointitulado “Os Mutantes” foi lançado em junho de 1968. O disco só foi reeditado em CD em 1992 e em 2006. Formado, na época, por Rita Lee e pelos irmãos Arnaldo Baptista e Sérgio Dias, os Mutantes inovaram por trazer, em seu trabalho de estreia, um misto de elementos vindos do rock psicodélico e de gêneros musicais nacionais. A faixa “A Minha Menina”, composta por Jorge Ben é um exemplo dessa mistura, sendo uma canção que une o samba e o rock. O LP abre com a faixa "Panis et Circenses" ("pão e circo", em latim) composta por Gilberto Gil e Caetano Veloso. Segundo Rita Lee, Gil e Veloso compuseram a canção "em apenas quinze minutos". A capa do disco é uma foto de Olivier Perroy. Sérgio veste uma capa preta de veludo; Arnaldo, um quimono; e Rita, um vestido-poncho feito com uma toalha indiana. A direção artística foi de Wesley Duke Lee, convidado por Guilherme Araújo. A contracapa traz desenhos feitos pelos próprios Mutantes.

Manifattura, disoccupazione e vendite al dettaglio, sono in ritardo rispetto ai dati correnti e gli investitori seguono parametri più immediati. Riapertura di alcune attività, rallentamento dell'epidemia e consumi energetici settimanali, sono alcuni di quelli seguiti attualmente.Il FMI invita ad evitare gli errori del passato. Un problema che ha caratterizzato la grande depressione degli anni 30 e la grande recessione del 2008, è che i governi hanno attuato manovre restrittive di bilancio premature rispetto alla lunghezza della crisi. In questo frangente il Fondo Monetario Internazionale invita gli stati a pensare a manovre fiscali espansive e durature fino alla completa ripresa dell'economia e oltre. Il rischio di accumulare debiti in eccesso sarebbe mitigato da tassi di interesse particolarmente bassi.

Lebanon is rapidly sliding into a Venezuelan scenario. The eruption of spontaneous protests that have been prompted by a simmering public anger were looming on the horizon since the middle of 2018, if not much earlier. The reason is simple: a kleptomaniac ruling class protected by an Iranian militia are hardly a good recipe for investments and prosperity. Current legitimate anger at the deteriorating economic conditions has been at the genesis of the latest street outrage. A ballooning c.$100 bln public debt, a world-record deficit, a c.40% unemployment level, a decades-long malfunctioning power grid and public services, and the lack of any glimmer of hope for an entire nation after almost 15 years of a fiercely fought civil war and another 15 of a fake after war truce, have finally come to fruition. The current scenario is presently caused by the lack of ‘tricks' & ‘treats' that an isolated, coffers-depleted government can no more offer to the unemployed, and over-frustrated masses. Panem et Circenses no more!. Between the late 1990s and 2005 the so-called postwar miracle of Lebanon was nothing, but an open reconstruction site dominated by newly moneyed Oligarchs and carpetbaggers who were protected by Syria with the acquiesce of the Arab League, and the complicit approval of the Western world. Still, as long as crumbs and leftovers were trickling down to the middle and lower classes via handouts, corruption and a racket in public contracts, the average Lebanese was forgiving of its blood-sucking ruling elite. Today, the ruling elite's practices have not changed but the economic landscape has been transformed beyond recognition, and way above the intellectual grasp of its local politicos. The ruling junta has continued to deplete the coffers of the government through corruption and State largess while begging the Arab world and the European powers particularly, France, to continue to support its decaying economic model with inflated debts and donations. Add to that, the Lebanese Diaspora which was sending annual remittances at the tune of c. $7 bln per annum. These were deposited in Lebanese banks, who in turn ‘invested' them in TBs at phenomenal rates. The Ponzi scheme was perfect. The government secured its budget and, through it, the allotment of each sect and factions. The banks made more money than their Wall Street peers, and depositors, yes depositors, were happy to live off the interest income, fueled by this artificial scheme of ‘sovereign' debt which held the crumbing edifice. This edifice can hold a little more, but we reckon, not too long. Iran and Syria, both isolated by the international banking system, have been foraging Lebanon's market for US banknotes. Lebanon's lack of serious reforms has rendered the European lenders more suspicious and demanding of real changes and guarantees. The drastic drop in oil prices and the cold War between the unofficial Lebanon (Hezbollah) and the official Arab regimes have brought down donations and remittances from the Gulf to abysmal levels. The Central Bank has pulled the last ‘rabbit' from its magical hat by luring millions of deposits at junk bond rates to plug the holes of a sinking vessel. Notwithstanding, the government ignored all these regional and international developments and kept on ploughing its way through the carcass of a depleted State and the emptied pockets of its population. Unfortunately, like in Venezuela, (or in HK) this government will survive the latest pristine outburst in popular anger. The ruling military militia and the official armed forces will jointly hold the glue of this degraded Sphinx despite popular demands to the contrary. None of the political parties will jump ship, not because of any other reason except their survival instinct. A locked zoo is better than an open field for large mammals used to being hand fed. Staying in the government is safer, and till recently, more lucrative than being on the outside.

Tout au long de ses années de recherche, Catherine Virlouvet dévoile une réalité plus complexe de la plèbe romaine en soulignant son hétérogénéité. A t'on une idée précise précise du nombre d'habitants à Rome au Ier siècle? Comment faire vivre une ville de cette taille? Quels étaient les circuits d'acheminements des denrées alimentaires et notamment du blé? Comment se conservait ces denrées et où étaient-elles entreposées? Interrogé par Christophe Dickès, Catherine Virlouvet nous ouvre les portes du quotidien des Romains. Dans une seconde partie, elle présente l'Ecole française de Rome qu'elle dirige: son histoire, son rôle scientifique, ses spécialités et ses liens institutionnels qui participent du rayonnement de la France à l'étranger. Notre invité: Élève de Claude Nicolet, Catherine Virlouvet s'est spécialisée en histoire antique et a travaillé sur les procédures de distribution du blé public à Rome de la fin de la République au Haut-Empire, ainsi que sur les famines et les émeutes. Según el edificio, así la diversión, desde carreras de cuadrigas hasta naumaquias, desde competiciones deportivas hasta venationes y ejecuciones ad gladium. Contaremos con la presencia de Jesús Patón, experto en recreaciones históricas, que nos hablará de los diferentes tipos de juegos y de la vida cotidiana de esos gladiadores que, en ocasiones, eran ídolos de masas. Guillermo Díaz nos recreará de manera magistral uno de esos combates en la arena del coliseo. Por Fran Beltrán Si existe el cielo y la majestuosidad en la música de cine, ese es Ben-Hur. La magistral música, obra de Miklós Rózsa, es una obra impresionante con unos pasajes impecables, una gran percusión y unos temas espectaculares cargados de una gran epicidad. Esta gran superproducción, protagonizada por Charlton Heston, es una de las mayores obras maestras del cine y el compositor húngaro tuvo gran culpa de ello. Rosza nos sumerge a través de un tema principal de magnífica ejecución en la personalidad de Ben -Hur, su heroicidad, su benevolencia y su sed de venganza, todo ello queda perfectamente reflejado en una melodía cargada de gran fuerza musical. A través de espectaculares "Marcias" Romanas, podemos sumergirnos en esa Roma, pletórica y victoriosa pero también Rosza ofrece una oda a la belleza y a lo espiritual con melodías de gran dramatismo, cargadas de luz y esperanza, como la resurrección final. La acción también luce magistral en la Batalla contra los piratas, con grandes dosis de percusión y frenéticas melodías que años más tarde fueron influenciadas en sus alumnos aventajados como John Williams o Jerry Goldsmith. Una obra maestra, un Score épico que catapultó el sinfonismo y a la gran orquesta y que ha servido de inspiración para nuevos talentos (algunos fallecidos y otros actuales) que han adquirido el vigorismo y la majestuosidad de Rózsa, como fueron Basil Poledouris y actualmente, Michael Giachinno, Danny Elfman, Lee Holdridge o Abel korzeniowski. Bienvenidos al espectáculo, al gran cine y a la maravillosa obra maestra de Rosza!
