Yoshiko Yamaguchi (1920-2014) was a Japanese actress and singer who rose to fame in China during the 1930s and 1940s. Her Japanese identity was hidden and used in propaganda films to promote Japanese influence in occupied territories. After the war, Yamaguchi became a prominent Japanese politician and advocate for Sino-Japanese reconciliation. Founding partner of artist agency Intrinsic, Jonathan Silverman sheds some light on some of the misconceptions people have about agents and what they do. He delves deep into Vance & Nigel's pressing questions exploring the right time to get an agent, staying on good terms with everyone, and his thoughts on big agencies vs. boutique agencies. And find out what he's been doing to stay entertained during the historic SAG strike and how he expects the industry to pick up now that it has ended. Nigel reacts to Vance recalling shooting Propaganda Films promos for David Fincher. Britney Spears gives Nigel a shout-out in her new memoir “The Woman in Me” for directing her breakout music video, “…Baby One More Time,” the first of four Nigel directs for Britney, including “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” which Vance shot. It isn't summer until you go to summer camp! So this week, we revisit the beloved Nickelodeon TV show Salute Your Shorts! Salute Your Shorts began as a collection of short stories before being developed as a pilot by Propaganda Films. It took a year for Nickelodeon to green-light the project, but once it was on the air, it was an instant hit with kids who were too old for cartoons, but too young for prime time dramas. Before our full review, Steve reminisces about Boy Scout Camp, Megan admits to loving an academic camp, Steve makes fun of Megan for going to an academic camp, and we snack on our childhood favorite, Oreo Dirt! Did the show live up to our expectations? Did Megan recover from the mockery of her academic camp? Did we love the Dirt treat made with Jell-O, cream cheese, sugar, and cookies, or did it make us ill? Listen to find out! Rare that you get two powerhouses in one episode but we managed. We got to chat with two multi-hyphenates about how they began working together in post-production despite being continents apart. Their pathways into filmmaking and editing are different but that didn't deter them from still managing to work together for the first time on “What Say What?!”, a wildly popular YouTube Originals series, executive produced by Issa Rae's HOORAE Media company and Zero Fatigue, a collective and music label founded by Smino. Director, cinematographer, creative producer and editor, Jeredon O'Conner is a Howard University grad from Memphis, Tennessee. While at Howard, the wealth of academic and artistic creativity in film and fine arts helped drive Jeredon to push the envelope of creativity inside and outside of class especially when it came to celebrating and uplifting Black voices and artistry. Hailing from Houston, Texas, Life Garland's journey into film began when he moved to Hollywood after graduating from high school. Purely by a sort of hard knocks education coupled with unwavering ambition, he became a production assistant at Propaganda Films working alongside the likes of David Fincher, Antoine Fuqua and Michael Bay. In this conversation we talk about how it was that Life was later approached by Jeredon for “What Say What?!” while living in Australia and how the catalyst of it all was out of a need to employ Black professionals in post-production in a way that's reflective of what is lacking. The two share insightful tips for inspiring editors and much more. Stay tuned for more episodes of Post In Black's third season as we continue to amplify the stories and experiences of Black professionals working in post-production. “You know, I don't care what the question is. Whether it's an artist or a politician or an attorney or whoever it is I may be working with. I do not care what the question is, because I know what the answer is. And the answer is always love. And if we can infuse love into whatever it is we're doing, that creates art. That creates heart-centered living right there.” — Chausey LeebronChausey Leebron walked away from a successful career in acting to develop a practice in spiritual psychology. From Alex's early days as part of the talent lineup at Propaganda Films directing music videos for acts like INXS, FLEETWOOD MAC, and CROWDED HOUSE… to his fateful step into studio feature films with the beautifully haunting THE CROW (1994) which underwent the devastating and well documented tragedy of the accidental death of star Brandon Lee… his extremely candid opinion on why THE MATRIX (1999) has always seemed so suspiciously familiar to what many consider to be his visual masterpiece DARK CITY (1998)…to why his many experiences working within the major studio system on blockbusters like I ROBOT (2004), KNOWING (2009) and GODS OF EGYPT (2016) have left him no longer interested in pursuing studio films… this conversation with one of cinema's underdog heroes may be among THE MOVIE CRYPT's very best! The Classic Film: Rear Window (1954) "A wheelchair-bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder” (IMDb.com). We're back to the Hitchcock classics with one of the holy trinity (according to Chris), a suspenseful thriller that asks, "Will she change for him?" The Modern Film: Disturbia (2007) "A teen living under house arrest becomes convinced his neighbor is a serial killer” (IMDb.com). Madonna's Blond Ambition & Girlie Show Tour Dancer, Carlton Wilborn, steps Behind The Rope. One of the Iconic Seven chosen by Madonna herself to be part of the Record Breaking Blond Ambition Tour and subsequent Game Changer, Ahead of Its Time Film, Truth or Dare staring the Queen of the World, Madonna. After a brief foray into Carlton's Chicago born childhood and early career in dance, where he attended classes with Former First Lady Michelle Obama, we get right into how he was hired as one of Madonna's Seven Dancers to Tour the World with her on her Blond Ambition Tour. Carlton spares no detail in the audition process, the answering machine message from M herself, the wild night out with Madonna to prove if he could hang and the ultimate tour offer. Carlton describes at what point he realized the Blond Ambition Tour was also being made into one of the first musical documentaries of its kind, at a time when The Real World was not even on TV yet and the words “Reality TV” were not in anyones vocabulary. In true Madonna fashion, she was the first. A pioneer if you will, not only in the “reality” format but one of the first to show gay men being, well, human beings with full actualized lives on screen. Carlton reflects about the 1980s and 1990s Madonna of yesteryear, what the country was like at the time with the initial onset of AIDS, a word the President said was only for “other people”, how he was able to perform night after night living with his own secret of being HIV positive - a secret he was not yet willing to share. He also discussed what it was like to be on a tour that the Pope tried to ban for being too controversial, that was one of the highest grossing tours at that point to date, and which Rolling Stone lists as one of the 50 greatest tours of the last 50 years. Carlton describes how accessible Madonna was and how she really treated her dancers off camera and it is not at all what one would think. He details all the late night talks with Madonna, the after parties, her advice, her vision for both the Blond Ambition Tour as well as Truth or Dare. He talks about the constant parade of Celebrities backstage coming to pay respects and bow to Queen M. Carlton talks about what life was like when The Blond Ambition Tour ended and his feelings when three of The Blond Ambition Tour Dancers, his colleagues, sued Madonna, her production company Boy Toy Inc., Miramax and Propaganda Films for “invasion of privacy, fraud and deceit, and misrepresentation claiming they did know parts of their lives were being filmed. We also discuss whether he understands the full cultural impact the film has had on society being a “reality” film before anyone knew the words “Reality TV” (yes, Truth or Dare was prior to even MTV's The Real World) and was one of the first films to show the full actualized life's of gay men as humans and not just sex objects. Switching gears, Carlton describes how he heard from Madonna years later when it was time to go back out on the road for The Girlie Show Tour. Carlton discusses the differences in himself, the production, the choreography, the music, the other dancers and last, but certainly not least, in Madonna from The Blond Ambition Tour in 1990 to The Girlie Show Tour in 1993. Carlton discusses his relationship with Madonna after the end of that tour and how in 2016 Hollywood came a knocking, this time in the form of the phenomenal documentary Strike A Pose about the lives of the 7, 6 living and one sadly deceased, male dancers who joined Queen M n her controversial Blond Ambition Tour. Carlton opens up about his other accomplishments, acting, author and current life coach. Finally, he answers the questions how do you want to be remembered and what would you say to Madonna if she walking into the room today!@carltonwilbornrising@behindvelvetrope@davidyontefBONUS EPISODES at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetropeBrought to you by BOLL & BRANCH - https://www.bollandbranch.com (15% Off First Set of Sheets - Use Code “Velvet”)Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code “Velvet Rope")MERCH AVAILABLE at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Chris & Kelsey sing the song of misery and relive the day of their deaths for all time! The Classic Film: Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995) "The Candyman moves on to New Orleans and starts his horrific murders once more. This time, his intended victim is a school teacher. Her father was killed by the Candyman, and brother wrongly accused of the murders” (IMDb.com). This sequel to 1992’s Candyman takes the supernatural killer (and basically all of the events of the original) to a new town but loses all of the quality and nuance in the process. The Modern Film: Hatchet (2006) "When a group of tourists in a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare.” (IMDb.com). Praised for its lack of CGI gore and the fact that it’s an original IP, Hatchet (ironically, just Friday the 13th in the bayou) has almost nothing else going for it. It’s kinda lame and boring is what we’re saying. Følgende Nic Cage-film fra episoden kan findes på streamingtjenester: Adaptation (Viaplay) Con Air (Viaplay) Face/Off (Viaplay) It Could Happen to You (Netflix) Kick-Ass (Netflix/HBO) Lord of War (Filmstriben) The Rock (Viaplay) The Weather Man (Viaplay) Vi høres på åen. Distributor: Giant Pictures Tracy Wuischpard Writer/Director Elvis from Outer Space Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K4MeyQCSCk BIO: Tracy Wuischpard (Wish-pard) graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh where, along with her painting and filmmaking activities, she was a prominent member of the early punk rock music scene. Her band, The Shakes (later known as Combo Tactic), was well known on the scene and one of a handful of groups made up of artists from a variety of non-musical disciplines who picked up musical instruments with performance art in mind. She and her band left Pittsburgh in the early 80's and headed to San Francisco, CA and later, Los Angeles where she took up editing; working on documentaries about Michael Jackson (ACE award winner) and Lou Reed. There she also used her musical skills to edit many music videos including an MTV award-winning piece for Edie Brickell at Propaganda Films. In the late 90's Ms. Wuischpard moved to New York City where she continued to pursue her editorial career working mostly in television and advertising. In 2008 she was in a devastating car accident which caused her to retire. After years of recuperation she got a call from an old friend from the Pittsburgh scene, Robert Elliott Balter. He now had a music publishing company in LA, Jordan/Balter Music, with partner Van Jordon. Robert called to ask her for technical advice regarding a film project he had in mind. His company had purchased the rights to a film they wanted to turn into something new. The technical questions grew into conceptual questions and little by little, she was drawn into the project. Soon there was a request for story ideas. What could she do to make a new story from the old? It was an interesting problem, so she started to try to figure it out. Armed with stacks of index cards and a bulletin board, she set out to try to remake the story. When she pitched her idea Jordan/Balter loved it and they were off! Things started to grow in complexity, so she asked her husband, editor Bruce Tovsky, to help out. He came on board and they began devising a way to cut away half of the old movie and add in new material that they either made (as animation), shot (via remote directing) or composited (pulling together both animation and live action elements) to make a new film. They even wrote music to score the new scenes. Bruce had been playing on the experiment scene in New York for years. They had a recurring experimental music and film salon at their studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. So, this opportunity was just the kind of project they were made to do. Today brings not just one but two interviews with Phil Klemmer, a writer on all five seasons of Chuck, and all four seasons of Veronica Mars. We also launch the new “Video Tips” segment of the podcast, and welcome a number of new sponsors. After graduating with a classics major at Stanford, Phil Klemmermoved to L.A. and became a reader for Propaganda Films. There, he worked with such names as Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze, though his first break would come through Rob Thomas, who he met through Rob’s “crazy Halloween parties.”Based on a Six Feet Under spec script that Phil wrote in two weeks, Rob hired him to write on Veronica Mars, a job that would last four seasons. After Veronica Mars, Phil got a job on NBC’s Chuck, a show that has always been on the bubble for renewal. After the third season, renewal news came late, and most of the Chuck writers, including Phil, took jobs on other shows.Phil describes what it was like to work on NBC’s Undercovers, a show that he says was doomed even before it aired, and then how he fortuitously returned to Chuck mid-season, immediately after Undercovers was cancelled. Then Klemmer talks about the present, sharing how the cast and crew of Chuck are gelling like never before, but are already nostalgic about the end, as Chuck wraps up production for good on December 7th.In the Video Tips section, Gray talks about how easy it is to add custom color looks to your showcase film or webisodes using Red Giant Software’s Magic Bullet Suite.Buy Gray’s book for only $4.99! Yet, storytelling has always been the backbone to whatever he chooses to do. After graduating from Boston University in 1991 he moved to Los Angeles with the dreams of being a rock star. While entertaining crowds all over the US he took a job as a story editor and script analyst with Hollywood notables such as Quincy Jones, Jerry Bruckheimer, Arnold Kopelson and Propaganda Films. He then moved on to get his Masters in Counseling Psychology to help others tell their stories. From there he taught Lifeskills at the Crossroads School in Santa Monica - again focusing on helping students find their own personal stories and focus on what it meant to be a young adult. In 1997 Michael was the cofounder of imagistic - a digital agency - and was CEO for 14 years. It was during this tenure that Michael cut his teeth on digital marketing and worked with clients such as the ACLU, Hollywood.com, The Southern Poverty Law Center, Sir Speedy, Technicolor, The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Disney, Capitol Records, California Pizza Kitchen, GE, Kellogg’s, Estee Lauder, Bank of America and UCLA. In 2011 Michael decided it was time to go out on his own and refocus his career on storytelling. This included becoming a seasoned TEDx Talker, a Presentation Specialist and a focus on Content Marketing. In 2013 Michael married his love of marketing with music and became the Vice President of Marketing for Musician's Friend (Guitar Center, Inc.) For 2+ years Michael was the VP of Marketing at Creative Circle. Recently he was tasked to take charge of the new consulting side of the business. Have you ever wanted to learn how to write a screenplay fast? I know I do. This is why I invited on the show award-winning producer/director, best-selling author, film festival organizer and public speaker, Jeff Bollow. He is the author of Writing FAST: How to Write Anything with Lightning Speed. Jeff Bollow began as an actor at age 12 in his native Los Angeles (credits include Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and TV's Columbo) before working nearly every job in production, from camera to sound to lighting — and including jobs in development, post-production, and distribution.Jeff has worked on feature films, TV series, commercials, music videos, radio, and corporate productions for companies such as Universal, Castle Rock, Propaganda Films, DNA and the Oxygen Network. After migrating to New Zealand, where he directed television for TV3 and co-founded the Big Mountain Short Film Festival, he moved to Australia, where he launched Embryo Films. Through his company, Jeff has reviewed over 20,000 project submissions and has edited, assessed and/or mentored over 350 projects. He has script doctored in Singapore, Australia, NZ and the US; and has conducted over 80 live weekend workshops to over 1200 writers in 9 cities in 5 countries, with a unanimous "recommend" approval rating. His students have been optioned, produced and won (and placed) in competitions worldwide. He designed FAST Screenplay in 2004 and began officially building it in November 2009. It was finally completed in July 2016, nearly 7 years later. Alongside it, he created the FASTscreenplay YouTube Channel, which now includes over 30 detailed and insightful free videos to encourage writers and screenwriters around the world. In May 2015, Jeff Bollow delivered his first TED Talk, "Expand Your Imagination... Exponentially" (see video below) at TEDxDocklands in Melbourne, Australia, to prepare for the next phase of the larger plan. Jeff's aim is to build an independent film studio that inspires creativity worldwide, to help prepare humanity for the dramatic changes our future holds. When he's not busy helping writers with FAST Screenplay, he is working on a new book, developing a television series, and planning two feature film projects. Enjoy!

How to Write a Screenplay with FAST with Jeff BollowHave you ever wanted to learn how to write a screenplay fast? I know I do. This is why I invited on the show award-winning producer/director, best-selling author, film festival organizer and public speaker, Jeff Bollow. He is the author of Writing FAST: How to Write Anything with Lightning Speed. Jeff Bollow began as an actor at age 12 in his native Los Angeles (credits include Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and TV's Columbo) before working nearly every job in production, from camera to sound to lighting — and including jobs in development, post-production and distribution.Jeff has worked on feature films, TV series, commercials, music videos, radio, and corporate productions for companies such as Universal, Castle Rock, Propaganda Films, DNA and the Oxygen Network. After migrating to New Zealand, where he directed television for TV3 and co-founded the Big Mountain Short Film Festival, he moved to Australia, where he launched Embryo Films. Through his company, Jeff has reviewed over 20,000 project submissions, and has edited, assessed and/or mentored over 350 projects. He designed FAST Screenplay in 2004, and began officially building it in November 2009. Jeff's aim is build an independent film studio that inspires creativity worldwide, to help prepare humanity for the dramatic changes our future holds. When he's not busy helping writers with FAST Screenplay, he is working on a new book, developing a television series, and planning two feature film projects.I've added below Jeff Bollow's TEDTalk and a series of amazing video on screenwriting.
