https://jo.my/8fu6y7 Hazard Communication & Chemical Safety: Safety Data Sheets (SDS) A strong safety culture depends on clear communication, especially when it involves hazardous chemicals. That's where Safety Data Sheets (SDS) come in. These standardized documents are essential for informing, protecting, and preparing everyone in the facility. Understanding SDS is critical to chemical safety, whether you're handling a chemical daily or passing through a storage area. SDSs provide detailed information about the properties, hazards, safe handling, and emergency procedures related to chemical products used in your facility. Every worker has a right to know what chemicals are present, how they might be affected, and what steps to take in case of exposure. Knowing where to find SDSs and how to read them isn't just helpful—it's necessary. Here are a few tips to assist you with understanding and using Safety Data Sheets effectively: Know what an SDS is and why it matters: An SDS document provides key safety information about a chemical. It outlines how to store, handle, and dispose of the material safely and what to do in an emergency. These documents are standardized, making them easy to follow once you understand the format. Understand the structure of an SDS: Most SDSs are split into sections. These sections include identification, hazard identification, composition, first-aid measures, firefighting measures, handling and storage, exposure controls, and more. The first few sections are the most frequently used during daily tasks and emergencies. Always know where SDSs are located: They must always be easy to access, whether in a binder in the break room or through a digital system. Never guess when dealing with chemicals. If you can't find the SDS, stop and ask before proceeding. Use the SDS to prepare and respond: Whether using personal protective equipment, responding to a spill, or treating a chemical exposure, the SDS tells you what steps to take. It's the first line of defense in handling chemical-related incidents correctly. Remember your right to know: Every team member has the right to understand the hazards they may be exposed to. If you don't understand something in an SDS, ask questions. Staying informed helps keep everyone safe. Understanding how to read and use an SDS is not just for emergencies—it's part of working smart and staying safe daily. Make it a habit to review SDSs for any new chemical introduced into your area. To keep this knowledge fresh, reinforce it during toolbox talks and safety meetings. Your safety depends on preparation. With the correct information, you can minimize risks and create a safer work environment for everyone in the facility. Thank you for being part of another episode of Warehouse Safety Tips. Until we meet next time - have a great week, and STAY SAFE! #Safety #SafetyFIRST #SafetyALWAYS #StaySafe #SafetyCulture #ChemicalSafety #SafetyDataSheets #SDSAwareness

In this episode we talk about one of the core tools for chemical safety in the workplace: safety data sheets. They contain information on how to safely handle, store, and dispose of chemicals. It is the responsibility of the supplier to provide safety data sheet to their customer when selling hazardous chemicals or mixtures. In 2021, new requirements for safety data sheets were introduced under the REACH Regulation, and this year, ECHA's Enforcement Forum carried out an EU-wide project to check if companies are following these updated rules. The inspectors found out that 35 % of the checked safety data sheets were non-compliant. Compliance has improved from previous projects but further efforts are needed to better protect workers and professional users from risks of hazardous chemicals. Our guests are Abdulqadir Mohamad Suleiman, the Norwegian alternate member of ECHA's Enforcement Forum and the Chair of the working group managing this enforcement project and Maciej Baranski, leading the Harmonised Enforcement Team at ECHA, which contributed to the project.**************Subscribe to our YouTube channelSubscribe to our Safer Chemicals PodcastSubscribe to our newsFollow us on:TwitterFacebookLinkedInVisit our website Disclaimer: Views expressed by interviewees do not necessarily represent the official position of the European Chemicals Agency. Eleven of the 38 train cars that came off the tracks in East Palestine, Ohio contained hazardous materials including the carcinogen vinyl chloride. Crews intentionally released and burned vinyl chloride to avoid a potential explosion, and residents have lingering concerns about the long-term effects of the chemicals in their community. Also, Safety Data Sheets are supposed to provide key information about the risks of workplace chemicals but they often downplay the risks of known carcinogens. And the burial of a nine-year-old enslaved girl on a plantation in Louisiana may halt construction of a new petrochemical plant on that land in the state's “Cancer Alley.” Many descendants of enslaved people in the region already live with health problems from exposure to industry and are looking to their ancestors to stop further expansion. -- You're invited! In this episode, consultant David Fisher gives you a chance to understand OSHA and keep you compliant. This is a must listen episode. The information could save your business. Regarding workplace safety and HR compliance, 85 - 90% are not compliant across America. To be non-compliant could cost your business. OSHA will interview your employees. Are you inspecting your lifts yearly? Does your team have access to SDS sheets (Safety Data Sheets). Are you giving all your employees access to your safety program? OSHA is ramping up stricter enforcement procedures. Invest in an annual walk of your shop from an OSHA consultant and get the accountability you need to prevent huge fines. California Employer's Services. OSHA & Labor Law Experts. Dave's previous episodes HERE Show Notes OSHA - will now interview your employees while inspecting your job site Ignorance is not an excuse anymore OSHA has determined that they want safety in the workplace. Compliance is like a picture painted by numbers. The more numbers you have filled in, the better off you're gonna be. OSHA is looking for, among others is your safety program, safety training, documentation, workers' compensation You've got 72 hours to a week at the most to get it back to them with your reply. After they get your reply, they're gonna review it, and then they're gonna assess the fines and fine you accordingly. No matter what state you do business in, you must meet the basic OSHA standards. Every year, you must have your lifts certified/inspected. You can certify them yourself if you installed them. The company that sold them can certify them. But if you install them, the state feels you have the wherewithal to inspect them and certify them. Be careful. There is no easy button for safety or HR compliance. The one thing you do have to be aware of is that if you name a safety officer in your business, they're gonna be tied into any potential lawsuit that arises out of a safety act or an accident in the workplace. OSHA knows that we, as a group of consultants, have more authority and more power over employers than they do When a company has paid money for a safety consultant, they know that the shop has an accountability partner, If you're gonna get with an HR services company, make sure they're working with actual attorneys. Make sure that these attorneys are gonna be there for your clients. You can have a perfectly legal employee handbook that covers the policies adequately. But you may not be able to take that employee handbook into court because when you go to court, there are certain things that the judge is gonna look at to make sure is in certain places of your...

HortCast Episode 9 is hosted by Craig White - Market Development Agronomist for Bayer Crop Science AustraliaHortCast E9 Craig discusses the achievements and challenges of the Australian macadamia industry over the years, with Jolyon Burnett, CEO of the Australian Macadamia Society and Bayer Business Development Manager Tim O'Grady explains how new SIVANTO® prime (New Group 4D insecticide) can safely help manage the devastating macadamia lace bug (Cercotingis decoris) from causing significant nut losses. In this episode We discuss how the macadamia industry has grown since the 1950s to become Australia's fourth largest horticultural export. Australia macadamias are exported to over 40 countries all around the world, supporting thousands of jobs. Macadamia lace bug (MLB) is a devastating pest which pierces the plant tissue to feed on sap, damaging the leaves and flowers, preventing nut set and triggering out of season flowering issues. This is a critical time for macadamias and SIVANTO prime insecticide offers rapid protection through direct or systemic activity on MLB, flexibility over flowering with low toxicity to most bee species, and safety to other beneficial species that are present during flowering. Tim O'Grady explains each of these features in detail and how it benefits macadamia production, and the need for careful stewardship and use of any crop protection products. Further development of SIVANTO prime is currently underway in conjunction with industry. Labels and Safety Data Sheets are available on the Bayer Crop Science website. EPISODE 8 - December 2021 (Marcel Veens) Bayer HortCast Episode 8 is hosted by Craig White -Market Development Agronomist at Bayer Australia and he discusses the current state of play in the stone and pome fruit industries with award winning Horticultural Adviser Marcel Veens and Bayer Market Development Agronomist Troy Mulcahy. In this episode we discuss how RimPro disease and insect prediction model can be useful to assist growers and advisers to optimise use of chemistry such as Vayego® Insecticide in protecting stone fruit, pome fruit, almonds and macadamias from pests like light brown apple moth, codling moth, various weevils, and carpophilus beetles (depending on crop type) to name a few. Club apple varieties and emerging technologies are discussed in some detail, including the role of robots and drones for managing pests and diseases and manual tasks in orchards, as well as re-invigorating interest from young people to pursue a career in horticulture. High Density planting and orchard block management configurations, with multiple leaders (~10,000 per ha) are very important in achieving high efficiency from emerging technology. Consumer experience is very important as well as packaging innovation developments to drive consumption of healthier options like apples, and this has been seen in Europe, but not as much in Australia. On this episode Market Development Agronomists Matt Willis and Craig White talk about the field trial program right around Australia and how the team are updating advisers and growers on important topics, and how Bayer solutions can work for them in their paddocks. We invite you to visit a site with us or get in touch to discuss. Matt and Craig explain how the field trial work is performing and what we are learning from small and large area (20-100ha) plot trials, in particular Mateno® Complete herbicide. This herbicide is currently under development by Bayer for grass and broadleaf weed control in wheat and barley, with flexible Incorporated by Sowing (IBS) or Early Post Emergence (EPE) application (wheat only EPE) timings depending on the crop. They delve into Early Post Emergence timing and the benefits this provides including the ability to control early, competitive weeds emerging across the soil surface profile (in-furrow, on furrow shoulder, in inter-row) and longer residual control period into the season. Mateno Complete contains three-complementary active ingredients, including group 32 that is new and unique mode of action in Australia (aclonifen (group 32) + pyroxasulfone (group 15) + diflufenican (group 12). We will be showing Mateno Complete trials and other trials throughout Australia in 2021, and there is sure to be a trial or demonstration in a paddock near you. This week I sat down with Karin Baron, Senior Regulatory Consultant to B&C and our affiliated consultancy, The Acta Group, to discuss the European Union’s (EU) Commission Regulation issued last June relating to the completion of safety data sheets (SDS). As listeners know, SDSs are critically important commercial documents that describe the hazards identified with a particular chemical product or mixture as it makes its way in commerce. While this is an EU rule, Karin explains why the new regulation has important consequences for U.S. businesses. On this episode Market Development Agronomists Craig White and Matt Willis talk about early season issues including controlling the “green bridge” of weeds , insects and diseases brought on by summer rainfall in Western Australia and important topics relating to planting of the 2021 broadacre crops. Matt and Craig and the Market Development team right around Australia are updating advisers and growers on important topics, and how Bayer solutions can work for them in the field. Roundup UltraMax – getting the best out of this weed knockdown product to help manage the green bridge and moisture conservation. Not all glyphosates are equal. EverGol Energy – Second to none Smut and Bunt control in cereals, suppression of Rhizoctonia, Crown rot and pythium either applied on seed, in furrow application or both. Matt and Craig discuss Mateno® Complete herbicide. This herbicide is currently under development by Bayer for grass and broadleaf weed control in wheat and barley, with flexible Incorporated by Sowing (IBS) or Early Post Emergence (EPE) application timings. Field trial experience from previous seasons and results are very promising. We will be demonstrating Mateno Complete throughout Australia in 2021, and there is sure to be a trial or demonstration in a paddock near you. At the time of publication of this podcast, Mateno Complete is not a registered product. An application for Registration has been submitted. Sakura® (850WG granule) and NEW Sakura® Flow (480SC liquid) is in high demand, as they have set the standard for pre-emergence grass weed control in wheat and some pulse crops. With a decade of reliable field performance with up to 12 weeks residual grassweed control, Sakura herbicide is now available in 2 formulations, and four convenient pack sizes including the very popular 100 hectare pack (Sakura WG) and a new 50 hectare Sakura Flow (liquid) pack. This allows for great flexibility at the boom spray and performance in the paddock. And there is an interesting piece about the Dingo Fence in Australia built in 1885. It influences the vegetation depending which side and can be seen from space. Welcome to the Indoor Environmental Quality podcast. Thank you for joining me for this episode. Sorry it’s been so long between episodes! We've had quarantine, working from home, adjusting to new normal - whatever you want to call it. I've wanted to do a follow up on COVID-19, but it's been tough to sort out the information and give recommendations on PPE, air conditioning, how to clean and disinfect buildings, all that. And the information keeps changing. More on that in another episode. But recent events got me motivated to record this episode. In this episode we're going to talk about disaster recovery. As I’m recording, Hurricane Laura made landfall in Louisiana on August 27, 2020, and if you’ve seen the news, the storm devastated the region. I’m about 2 hours east of Lake Charles. I’ve worked in that region of the state for more than 30 years. I have a ton of friends there, so I’m ready to get there and help however I can. Storm recovery is hard and stressful enough, and it's natural to want to clean up, fix the damage, and get back to normal as fast as we can. But sometimes it's not that simple. Besides the obvious - water damage and mold, there can be other hazards we have to deal with. Sometimes we're so fixated on the water damage or mold that we don't stop to consider other environmental and safety hazards. In this episode we'll go over some common environmental and safety hazards you're likely to encounter during recovery, and some tips on how to avoid problems: Tip #1: Contact your insurance company and engage professional/licensed electricians, contractors, and consultants before initiating work. Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Tip #2: Be Safe - your safety is by far the most important consideration. Electricity - if needed, disconnect from power company. Have a licensed electrician look at your system before energizing. Check main disconnect and electrical panel (water there is a bad thing!). Also check appliances for water damage before restoring power. Beware of down wires near your home or business.Gas - check for leaks or bad connections (sometimes structures and piping move during storms or floods).Check the structure - don't go in unless you're certain it's safe.Animals - watch out for animals where you least expect. You never know when you'll run into a scared dog or a snake.Stay hydrated and wear respiratory protection (check with your physician to be sure you’re capable of wearing a respirator). Also consider wearing a hard hat and eye protection. Tip #3: Get the building and all the materials in it dry. Place dehumidifiers & fans in the building. Your air conditioner is better than nothing (but only marginally so).If no power in the building, open the windows and doors.Remove wet gypsum board, insulation, and carpet (see Tip #4 below first)! Tip #4: Beware of other environmental issues. When you're gutting the building, demolition could disturb materials that contain asbestos, lead, mercury, and PCB. Also watch out for stored chemicals like gasoline, motor oil, and pesticides. Tip #5: Clean, Disinfect, & Dry.Get the cleaned up areas white glove clean—no debris or dust or mold should remain. Bleach kills mold & disinfects, but there are other options. Soap (Borax) and water are effective and there is a positive residual effect). Distilled White Vinegar is effective, and you can get it almost anywhere.Commercial products like Foster's, Microban or Shockwave are pretty good but may be hard to get unless you know a contractor. No matter what you use, read the Safety Data Sheets and instructions—protect yourself.Get the building dry and keep it dry. Tip #6: Salvageable items.Use a baby pool, bath tub, or bucket as wash stations. Wash dishes and utensils. Launder clothes (you’ll be able to save some of your clothes). Get them dry and keep them dry.Appliances can sometimes be salvaged—if you dry them and clean them before energizing them. Don’t get electrocuted or cause a fire! Make sure circuits and wiring weren't damaged by water, especially if you think salt water intrusion occurred. Yes, your refrigerator and freezer will be nasty on the inside—but oftentimes can be cleaned and deodorized. Tip #7: Mold.Sampling is a waste of time and money before remediation. There is no good mold to grow indoors! Remove moldy materials (check the back of your wall board and sheathing!). Clean the space white glove clean. Conduct a valid Post Remediation Verification visual inspection (and sample now if you think it's needed).Dry the space and keep it dry. If someone tells you a “Mold Free” certificate is required, run them off! It’s a scam! Thanks for listening! This is one of the most common training tools that I use when providing courses on the GHS, and the Safety Data Sheets. By providing them with SDS's that are relative to their daily use or consumption, they get very engaged. My students get intense about the class, especially those that vape, or consume adult beverages on a frequent bases, because as we progress with the opening this segment provides, they are considering if they are about to hit / or where close to hitting the LD50. In this episode Market Development Agronomists Craig White, Matt Willis and Richard Jackman talk about the current weather conditions, pre-emergent herbicide activity/behaviour with Sakura® and Sakura® Flow and what to expect from them in your area, depending on the rain and soil conditions you currently experience. The Market Development Agronomy team are establishing a wide range of trials and field sites, alongside growers who are very busy planting crops and undertaking spraying, which of course involves tank mixes. We explain in detail the tank mixing process, to avoid compatibility issues, saving time and distress. A Sakura® Tank Mixing Guide is available at www.crop.bayer.com.au/tools and as a Tank Sticker - contact your local Bayer representative for a copy. Early weeds are the most competitive, so control them early for the most benefit. You can safely use Velocity® in wheat and barley from the 2-leaf crop stage, and Precept® for broad-leaf weed control in Oats, Wheat and Barley from the 3-leaf crop stage. Lupin crops are establishing well, and along with simazine used pre-emergence, Brodal® Options is an important tool for controlling broad-leaf weeds. These are strong, proven options for weed control. Chickpea plantings are planned this year and in future CropCast episodes, we will cover Aviator® Xpro® role for managing key diseases in chickpea, cereals, canola and other pulse crops. Welcome to the Indoor Environmental Quality podcast. Thank you for joining us for this episode. In today's episode we're going to talk about disaster recovery. As we're recording, we're in the midst of the 2019 Atlantic storm season. At present the NOAA website shows 4 storms in the Atlantic, and one in Texas. We all know someone who's gone through a flood, tropical storm or hurricane. In this episode we'll go over some common environmental and safety hazards you're likely to encounter during recovery, and some tips on how to avoid problems:Tip #1: Contact your insurance company and engage professional/licensed electricians, contractors, and consultants before initiating work. Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Tip #2: Be Safe - your safety is by far the most important consideration.Electricity - if needed, disconnect from power company. You never know when you'll run into a scared dog or a snake. Stay hydrated and wear respiratory protection (check with your physician to be sure you’re capable of wearing a respirator). Also consider wearing a hard hat and eye protection. Tip #3: Get the building and all the materials in it dry.Place dehumidifiers & fans in the building. It’s a scam!Helpful information: LSU: http://www.lsuagcenter.com/topics/family_home/hazards_and_threatsTexas A & M: http://texashelp.tamu.edu/disaster-recovery-guide-and-ebook.phpFEMA: https://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/31368Email Chris White
While manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs) are getting a lot of attention in Sterile Processing departments today, when it comes to chemical safety, you need to know exactly what your chemical's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) says. Did you know there's often important information in the SDS for using chemicals that may not be listed in the product IFU? On this episode of Season 5, we got Peggy Spitzer, Clinical Education Manager at Certol International, to step up to the Beyond Clean microphone to discuss important contours of chemical safety in Sterile Processing that can keep your teams safe and compliant. Tune in this week to hear about how to find Safety Data Sheets, how to read them, how they are updated, and much more! We’ve got a whole line up of super sexy topics to cover, from safety data sheets and safe injection practices to radiology infection control and more! While these may not be the most exciting topics, you know that proper attention to important subjects like these is what differentiates an excellent dental office from an average one. What are you waiting for? Have pen and paper ready for this detailed and informative episode of Talking with the Toothcop, you don’t want to miss it! Safety Data Sheets What are safety data sheets and when are you required to use them? If you’ve been unsure of how to utilize and safety data sheets or why they are a tool you need to have available in your office, this is the episode for you! A safety data sheet, material safety data sheet, or product safety data sheet is a document that lists information relating to occupational safety and health for the use of various substances and products. As a shorthand, think of it this way, you need to fill out a safety data sheet for anything you purchase from your specialty dental supplier. For additional information on safety data sheets and why you need them in your dental office, make sure to listen to this episode! Safe injection practices Did you know that one of the best ways to safeguard your staff from getting accidentally stuck with a dirty instrument is to recap it break it down yourself? While that may sound like a no-brainer, you’d be surprised at how many dental offices don’t make this simple adjustment to their procedures. It almost goes without saying but I’ll add it here anyway, make sure to NEVER reuse needles and ALWAYS use a Sharps Disposal Container for proper disposal. Don’t open yourself up to unnecessary risk, review your process and make sure you have all of your bases covered. To hear more helpful guidelines and best practices, listen to this episode! Low-speed handpiece motors Do you really have to sterilize your low-speed handpiece motors or is that just an extra step that some dental offices take unnecessarily? According to CDC guidelines for infection prevention and control, the answer is yes, you do need to sterilize your low-speed handpiece motors. The CDC guidelines state that “...between patients, dental health care personnel (DHCP) should clean and heat-sterilize handpieces and other intraoral instruments that can be removed from the air and waterlines of dental units. This recommendation is based on studies that have shown that the internal components of air-driven dental handpieces (both low-speed and high-speed devices) can become contaminated with patient material during use, and this material can then be expelled into the mouth of other patients during subsequent uses.” Make sure your processes aren’t violating Federal law! For an in-depth explanation of this critical topic, make sure to listen to this episode of Talking with the Toothcop. Join my 10-day challenge! Did this conversation give something to think about? Are you in good shape when it comes to safety data sheets, safe injection practices, low-speed handpiece motors, and the rest? Even if you think your office is completely up to snuff, I’d like you to consider taking my ten-day challenge. I challenge you, each day for the next ten business days at some point in the day to rifle through your drawer of sterile instruments and look for anything that might not be sterile. My guess is, you’ll find at least one unsterilized item a day. Are you up for the challenge? Let me know how it goes! Outline of This Episode [0:22] I introduce today’s topics, safety data sheets, safe injection practices, low-speed handpiece motors, and radiology infection control. [9:40] What you need to know about safe injection practices. [11:45] Why you have to sterilize your low-speed handpiece motors. [16:30] How to protect your patients from radiology infection. This week, I sat down with Karin Baron, a senior regulatory consultant here at Bergeson & Campbell and all around expert on chemical product labeling to discuss recent developments pertinent to the United States Hazard Communication Standard (HCS). These regulatory developments have been proposed to bring the HCS more in line with GHS, the Global Hazard Communication Standard. Karin unpacks this complex but really important area of the law and focuses on the aspirational and important goals of harmonization, in a way that focuses on the realities of a world that actually ensures dis-harmonization. Karin has more than 15 years’ experience developing, implementing, and managing complex chemical regulatory compliance matters for some of the world’s largest industrial and specialty chemical companies. One of Karin’s many talents is the ability to communicate clearly and make sense out of the complex morass of global product hazard warning and labeling requirements. Our conversation touches upon the intricacies of this issue, including product labeling processes, managing Safety Data Sheets, the implications of harmonization on competition and anti-trust, as well as the interactions with TSCA and REACH. SDS (Safety Data Sheets) are great for house cleaners to understand the cleaning chemicals they use. Part of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) maids can see the chemical breakdown for every detergent with SDS. Angela Brown, The House Cleaning Guru reminds us that SDS used to known as MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets.) And they are part of house cleaner education. If not available to your cleaning employees the labor board (Department of labor in the USA) can penalize you. (Occupational Safety and Health Administration = OSHA.) OSHA mandates that all cleaning technicians know their products and the safety measures attached. Today's Ask a House Cleaner sponsors are Savvy Cleaner (Maid service and house cleaner training.)
