Growing up in a family deeply entrenched in the arts, Lori Alan naturally gravitated towards the stage and microphone. Her parents were theater majors who later ventured into advertising and directing, so it's no surprise that growing up in a creative environment played a pivotal role in shaping her career path. She looks back on the early stages of her career, including a Shakey's Pizza commercial she starred in that marked her initial foray into professional acting at the age of 5. Despite getting bullied for her unique voice, she chose to embrace her talent instead. After studying and pursuing a career in acting in New York, she decided to move to LA to explore new opportunities. This marked the beginning of her extensive work in voice acting, including iconic roles in "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Family Guy". She shares how she honed her skills, her ability to adapt to different genres, and where she usually draws inspiration from in bringing characters to life. Lori also talks about her time in “Reefer Madness”, the show's success, and a memorable moment when she met Warren Beatty, who had once shown interest in her mother. Beyond her acting and voice career, she is also a dedicated voice acting coach, emphasizing the importance of studying the craft, being in the moment, and giving your all in whatever you do. Lori Alan is an award-winning actor, writer, producer, and coach who fell out of the womb sitting in front of a microphone. She is the voice of Pearl Krabs on the “SpongeBob SquarePants” animated series and among many other roles has brought to life Diane Simmons on “Family Guy”, Sue Richards aka The Invisible Woman on “The Fantastic Four”, and The Boss on the “Metal Gear Solid” video game series. She originated the role of Mae Coleman in the award-winning musical “Reefer Madness” in 1988, and is now reprising the same role in the current LA production. EPISODE 282 - We finish our coverage of John Byrne's FF with the issue where Sue Richards changes her name from The Invisible Girl to The Invisible Woman. It's a fine issue that mostly features She-Hulk breaking out of Psycho-Man's fear spell. We also learn the story of Pearla, Queen of the Microverse! We give some closing thoughts on John Byrne. For a good John Byrne issue, and there were many you got: strong confident storytelling, exciting purposeful battles, clearly told stories, a strong command of where your eye goes, and what your heart wants to know. Byrne in the 80s was iconic, truly one of the best and most popular creators in America. The shortcomings: his art starts to get sketchier as he strives to produce more. His faces look... honestly, the same? It's almost strange how that DOESN'T hurt the story telling. He gets more and more about the references. Although funny, he's best when he isn't doing a book which is billed as comedic first and foremost. But for the FF, he revitalized the comic, giving Kirby's creations an often upgraded portrayal. Next season: Peter Milligan's run on The Human Target
EPISODE 281 - We're approached the end of the John Byrne FF era. Franklin is having another prophetic dream, which is a six page plug for Power Pack, which the Milksops applaud. Sue Richards is standing up to Reed like never before, and she demands revenge against Psycho-Man. And that means we're going to the Micro-Verse! And also, whoa, what is the Micro-Verse? We also have an appearance of our sub podcast "Screw It, We're Just Gonna Talk About War Games" which is hilariuosly more well produced than the main podcast. And the Milksops cast themselves in a movie! My guest today is harpist Tiffany Schaefer. Tiffany is a harp teacher and performer based in Ohio. During our chat we discussed the Ohio Scottish Arts School, or OSAS for short, and how, “music is bringing people together and [how] it is ageless that way.” Tiffany grew up in a musical family and started playing the harp in 2007. Her involvement in OSAS and The Scottish Harp Society of America (SHSA) brought her into the world of Scottish traditional music. The first harp album she found in her local library was by Sue Richards and she became inspired by Sue's playing. You could imagine Tiffany's surprise when Sue was one of her adjudicators at her first OSAS's harp competition! We talk about many of the amazing harpists who have inspired her, many of whom have been interviewed on this podcast folks like: Rachel Hair, Corrina Hewat, Kim Robertson and more...make sure to check out those episodes in our archives. On competition: Although it can be nerve wracking, “It's a great way to work toward something and get some feedback from people who know what they are talking about.”Tiffany is passionate about creating community, something that we here at HarpSong™️ and Moon Over the Trees are as well. Tiffany's hope for her free FB group, “Mastering Celtic Music”, is that it will, “grow into a hub for Celtic music and all different kinds of instrumentalists...not just harpists.” You can also check out her Patreon page for classes, and arrangements for the harp. On performing:Tiffany performs as a soloist and accompanies her own singing and storytelling. Right now she has two ensembles, one plays Renaissance and Baroque repertoire and the other is an Irish Traditional group called, Creggane. Check out her youtube page for more information. Despite it being 2021, we sadly STILL live in an age where Sports & Massage Therapists do not always feel safe during / after work. From inappropriate banter, comments & requests to stalking, attack & abuse, therapists within our industry are subjected to what many of us do not realise is shockingly common abuse, highlighting a total lack of understanding of what Sports & Remedial Massage is all about. In Ep.75 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we focus on safety at work for Female Massage Therapists, though the subject of safety of work is obviously one that can affect all therapists regardless of gender. We are joined live by nine female massage therapists, each of whom was kind enough to share personal details of their experiences and join each other in thought & discussion. The extent of this issue rapidly becomes apparent, causing us to seriously ask ourselves why this topic is so often ignored or swept under the carpet. Warning: The subject matter in this episode may cause distress, so please check who is around you when you are listening. Welcome to National Lampoon's Fantastic Four, aka the rebooted Marvel NOW! For our final episode delving into the romance between Reed Richards and Sue Richards, we're going on a cosmic road trip and unpacking all sixteen issues of FF volume four. Did you think tensions were tight during Civil War? Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet. As we've done for every FF episode, we're using Gretchen Rubin's The Four Tendencies: The Indispensable Personality Profiles That Reveal How To Make Your Life Better (and Other People's Lives Better, Too) as our relationship guide. We nailed Reed & Sue's Tendencies in our first FF episode, but have they finally shifted in this final arc? Maaaaybe. This week's episode also opens by celebrating the life and work of Richard Donner, the filmmaker who helped bring Superman, Tales from the Crypt, and the X-Men to the big screen. If you want to listen to our friend Shawn's interview with the director, hop over to the Missing Frames podcast on the Nerd Party network. Issues covered in this episode: Fantastic Four Volume 4, issues 1 - 16, published between November 2012 and January 2014. We did it! 100 Episodes! And we're celebrating by smashing headfirst into the greatest fight to nearly tear the Fantastic Four apart - CIVIL WAR! Iron Man and Captain America are punching each other in the streets as Reed Richards and Sue Richards fall on opposite sides of the Superhuman Registration Act. With murderous Thor clones and Negative Zone prisons between them, how can this happily married couple ever hope to remain together? And, frankly, should they? Our third episode exploring Reed and Sue as a couple hits DEFCON-4. To help us sort through the catastrophe, we turn to Gretchen Rubin and her self-help book, The Four Tendencies. Who's an Upholder? Who's an Obliger? Can they keep it together when their values fly in the face of each other? We get into it. As an added 100 Episode Bonus, this week, we're also including a segment from our radical conversation with writers Josh Stafford and Howard Wong discussing their new kinda-sorta zombie series, Damned, Cursed Children. We frickin love this comic and we want all of you to love it too. Please seek it out via Source Point Press. Reviews on the New Comics and other media for the week of Jan.20, 2021! PG-13 for language. Sandra labors under the delusion that the reason Namor spends so much time with the Fantastic Four's Sue Richards is "marriage counseling", Stan does not share those delusions. Albert plays with his shrinky dinks while they have a stimulating conversation about Satan's zip code. AND as a bonus, Stan outs Sandra and Albert as communists based on their tastes in what they think is "art".
Wonder Woman, Storm, Zatanna, Emma Frost are some of the most formidable characters in all of comicdom. Often they are juxtaposed next to less powerful male heroes and burdened with ridiculous limits on their abilities. The same could be said of American Politics, particularly about Black women. In comics when a female character discovers her powers and the depth of them they are sometimes seen as a threat before becoming a force. Black women in politics have been like Sue Richards...invisible. Not any more. From Shirley Chisholm to our new VPOTUS Elect Kamala Harris, black women are proving they are a force in American politics and that they have the power! Support the showSubscribe on our new website! In the summertime, when the weather is hot, you can download this and touch the sky; when the weather's fine, you got comics, you got comics on your mind. School's out, and with no assigned reading to do, Ryan and Justin are taking the rest of July off. But before they do, they've decided to kick back, have some soothing (non-alcoholic) island drinks, and have a low-key conversation about their personal pet peeves and "worst ofs" in comics. Along the way they'll discuss the Dark Phoenix Saga's inability to be translated to film, controversial opinions about the work of Grant Morrison, and a debate about Reed and Sue Richards that threatens to tear the podcast asunder. The finale of Secret Wars 2015. Dr Doom's plan is falling apart and the combined plan of Reed Richards and Black Panther comes to fruition. The ending leaves the Fantastic Four in space and away from their comic for ever 3 years. Hickman attempts to wrap up years of storylines and its a bit uneven to say the least. Plus we argue why Sue Richards does not have any butt...like at all. Fun listen with the boys from Brothascomics
Today on Midday, a break from the news of the day, and focus on that which is great and good about the human condition. It’s Midday on Music. A little later, we’ll be treated to some tunes by the guitar/harp duo, Robin Bullock and Sue Richards. Their performance is posted separately here on the WYPR Website). We begin today with Hanzhi Wang. This virtuoso concert accordionist was born 29 years ago in China. She lives and teaches now in Copenhagen, Denmark, and she’s playing a concert in Columbia, Maryland Saturday night. She is the first accordionist to win the prestigious Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York. Ms. Wang is not your grandfather’s polka-playing accordionist, nor is she the organ-grinder busker in Little Italy with the dancing monkey. As you will hear, she is a virtuoso on an instrument that is not usually associated with art music. We are streaming our conversations today on the WYPR Facebook Page, so you can see that the instrument she is playing -- the button accordion -- doesn’t even look like most accordions you’ve seen before. During her live performance on Midday, Hanzhi Wang plays three pieces, in this order:“My Story” by Hanzhi Wang; “Etincelles” by Moritz Moszkowski; and “La Muerte del Angel” by Astor Piazzolla. Hanzhi Wang performs Saturday night (October 5) at a concert at the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College in Columbia. It’s part of the Candlelight Concert Society series. She'll play music of Bach, Rameau, Scarlatti, Grieg and Schnittke. The concert starts at 7:30. Wang's latest CD is called On the Path to H.C. Anderson on the Naxos label. It includes music by contemporary Danish composers. Hanzhi Wang is on the faculty of the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. She posts on Instagram.
Today's edition of Midday on Music continues now with two great musician friends of Midday joining Tom in Studio A: They are Robin Bullock, who has appeared as a solo artist and as part of Helicon, and Sue Richards, who is a member of Ensemble Galilei. Both have played for us several times here in Studio A. Now, they have teamed up as a duo and recently released a terrific CD of traditional Celtic music called Highland Ramble. Robin plays guitar, mandolin and cittern, among other traditional string instruments. Sue is a four time National Scottish Harp Champion. We streamed their performance today on WYPR Facebook Page, and you can watch the video here, beginning at 36:00 into the feed. The duo plays two tunes from the Highland Ramble CD: ----Loftus Jones---- by Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan, and ----Farmors Brudpolska,---- a traditional 19th century Swedish wedding polska.Robin Bullock and Sue Richards are playing at 7:30pm tonight at the Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore, as part of the Common Ground on the Hill Concert Series. If you miss them tonight, they’ll be back in Baltimore on December 6th at Govans Presbyterian Church, and Robin will be playing a solo all-Bach concert at An Die Musik in Baltimore on November 1st.
Mr Fantastic Meets Scratchman Hello, and welcome to episode 343 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. This week, the much-discussed Doug Moench/Bill Sienkiewicz Fantastic Four run gets underway properly. THEY MELTED MY ROBOT BRAIN! Hello, and welcome to episode 326 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. The 1980s are here, and what better way to celebrate the dawning of a new decade by finally wrapping up some, but not all, subplots from the last year's worth of stories? The time has come to address both Skrull X and the artificial aging of the Fantastic Four, while at the same time, almost-completely ignoring the events that set this cosmic epic in motion. Marv Wolfman, John Byrne, Joe Sinnott, Carl Gafford, John Costanza, and Jim Shooter present Fantastic Four #214 - And Then There Was One, in which The Human Torch grapples with having to actually do stuff, experiences a case of Extra! Mel! Oh! Draaaama!, and Sue Richards makes for an intriguing corpse (her most substantial contribution to the book in several issues). The Susan Storm Affair Hello, and welcome to episode 323 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. After 88 issues, Marvel Team-Up finally gets around to featuring Sue Richards. Well, better late than never. She's joining forces with Spider-Man to escape the rigour of a society event, rescue her son, pay off the Maggia, and chew bubblegum. And, unfortunately, she's all out of bubblegum. Although, would the Maggia really have missed a few cents from the $3 million she'll give them? Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, Eduardo Barreto, Bob Sharen, John Costanza, Al Milgrom, Jim Shooter, and Rich Buckler present Marvel Team-Up #88. In which some things happen, some of then which can be trivially described to create an alluring episode blurb, probably in a list. And Claremont does some great stuff with Sue's powers.

Exposing graduate teachers to models of good practice involves navigating along the conversational continuum between mentoring and coaching. This is a school-based story about how using a blended approach to mentoring and coaching, as needed, supports beginning teachers. In this interview, Sue Richards, a former school leader with 40 years’ experience and current GCI coach, explains how she changed her default approach from mentoring beginning teachers to coaching them, allowing them to take greater ownership of their practice development and maintain their energy and enthusiasm for their important role.
Ginger Hildebrand, Sue Richards and Carolyn Surrick are three highly respected musicians who play what many call “early” music. They all play in various solo capacities, and when they play together as Trio Galilei , they play Irish and Scottish dance music, and music that goes way back to Medieval times. Trio Galilei will be performing selected works of music at Christ Church in Easton on Sunday March 18th. For more information check out the link below.
This week, the Pals comment on the passing of Len Wein, the case of deja vu brought on by our first look at David Harbour's Hellboy, the ridiculous controversy surrounding Superman saving an immigrant -- which is exactly what Superman has always done, and we break down the witch hunt against Aubrey Sitterson being led by G.I. This week in comics, we got TWO conversations surrounding bigotry and whether or not comic book characters can be used to make political statements. The books in question are born out of social and political turmoil, but some fans believe that these characters should stay out of such politically charged discourse. We break down both situations this week and explain why Superman, G.I. Joe and similar characters will always fight on the side of the oppressed. Swipe Left To Turn Page Hello, and welcome to episode 227 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. Apparently, at the time this comic was released, there was a new King Kong movie about to be released. Now, I'd hate to suggest that such a cinematic event would affect the plotting of this issue... but when there's a giant golden gorilla scaling the Baxter Building with Sue Richards in its hand whilst Ben Grimm cracks numerous Dino de Laurentiis jokes, it's hard not to draw that conclusion. Roy Thomas, George Perez, Joe Sinnott, and Rich Buckler (guest-penciling three pages for no readily-discernible reason) present Fantastic Four #171 - Death Is A Golden Gorilla, introducing Gorr, and featuring another completely non-disastrous date for Johnny Storm and Frankie Raye. All this, plus a seemingly-invisible barcode. Send in your feedback to fantastic4podcast@gmail.com, leave your comments at the libsyn site, or at www.TheFantasticast.com. Longbox Amnesia Hello, and welcome to episode 152 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. Big changes are afoot in this week's episode of The Fantasticast. Fantastic Four #152 sees the Frightful Four infiltrate the Baxter Building, striking a blow at the heart of the Fantastic Four. With the team seemingly broken apart and defeated, can the combined force of Franklin and Sue Richards save the day? What unthinkable consequences will their actions bring? And can this set of show notes get any more overwrought? We also read your e-mails, plug our friends participating in Secret Convergence on Infinite Podcasts, discuss just why Reed Richards isn't working for us in Secret Wars, encounter melodramatic Johnny Storm's melodrama, and give more thought to Gorgon's footwear than anyone has ever given before. Steve Cooper talks with actor Lori Alan. Lori is perhaps best known for her award-winning voice-over work. Recently honored by her peers at the First Annual Voice Arts Awards (the Academy Awards for Voice-Overs) she took first-place prizes for Outstanding Body Of Work and Outstanding National Television Commercial. She starred as Diane Simmons on Family Guy, Pearl the Whale on SpongeBob: Squarepants, and Sue Richards, The Invisible Woman, on Marvel Comics' The Fantastic Four, among many other fantastic animated roles (Monster's University, Toy Story 3, Despicable Me 2, WALL.E, Henry Hugglemonster, Metal Gear Solid, Cow and Chicken, Animaniacs, and Futurama) and a long, successful commercial career. She also has firm roots in theatre, where she's thrived for over three decades. She most recently mounted a smash solo show, Lori Alan: The Musical, and appeared alongside Paul Reubens in The Pee-Wee Herman Show. Of her role as Queen Celia in the hit musical Sneaux!, Backstage West proclaimed, "Lori Alan might give Carol Burnett pause!" She originated the role of Mae in the award-winning musical Reefer Madness, a performance that earned raves from Kenny Morse of CBS Radio, who called her "a standout whose talent will take her very far". On TV from roles on the gripping Showtime drama Ray Donovan, to the hilarious Comedy Central gem Workaholics, to the deliciously naughty Desperate Housewives, her energy and natural essence flow effortlessly from genre to genre. A true character actress in every sense of the word, when Lori speaks, the world listens. She delves deeply into her material, emerging with the power to make the audience laugh and cry in the same moment. Her television career has flourished with appearances on Bones, Southland, CSI, 90210, Law and Order (both LA and the original), and every other show imaginable.
