Gospelis, kādu to pazīstam mūsdienās, radies 20. gadsimta sākumā, pateicoties komponistiem Čārlzam Tindlijam (Charles Albert Tindley) un Tomasam Dorsijam (Thomas A. Dorsey). Savukārt par gospeļa karalieni sauktā Mahālija Džeksone ne tikai iedrošināja Luteru Kingu vājuma brīžos, telefona klausulē dziedot dziesmas, bet arī jūtot viņa satraukumu pirms leģendārās runas I have a dream jeb "Man ir sapnis".

Episode 54 - Jason White is one of the greatest choir directors, vocal producers, and contractors in the world. He's best known as the leader of Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir, which took the world by storm in 2019, and he's worked with so many other legends as well. He worked with Beyoncé on her GRAMMY-winning "Break My Soul" (and we talk about that session in this episode), Will Smith on his first new music in years and re-emerging in the public eye (which we also talk about), Harry Styles, Elton John, T.I., Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, Kurt Carr, and countless others. We talk about how Kanye's Sunday Service started, how he built it with Phil Cornish, Ye, and other key people; its rapid growth; employing hundreds of people; and the high-stakes preparation for their iconic Coachella performance, and so much more.Jason dives into what it takes to blend spiritual roots with mainstream appeal, sharing stories from Sunday Service's beginnings and growth, understanding Ye and his own language, his unique role in the industry as a vocal contractor and his experiences with high-profile artists, from behind-the-scenes studio sessions with Beyoncé to Elton John and Andrew Watt. Jason also reflects on the power of choirs in music production, what it means to be a true leader, and how faith influences his work in the mainstream music industry. We have a great time, share valuable insights, fun stories and more. We hope you love the show. Ye and Drake came together to bring awareness for #FreeLarryHoover by sharing the stage in Los Angeles. The Sunday Service Choir was there and Ye blazed his catalog of hits for a set and a half....HOWEVER Drizzy aka The 6 God better known as Drake only performed songs primarily from his latest album Certified Lover Boy. Lo discusses the beef between the two artists and the praise that YE deserved from his display of musical and genius force that clearly overshadowed Aubrey in this episode of The World According To Lo. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/aloysius-ballard/support

Peace y'all! It's been quite some time since you last heard from me. I've been working a lot on rugs recently through very late nights and while working, I fell into a rabbit hole of Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir material -- I've probably watched all the performances they've done in their 10 months of touring. The great thing about each concert they do on tour is that each show is different and they add new songs to their setlist consistently. The Sunday Service Choir is led by Jason White, a veteran in the gospel music space and a lot of these songs are rewritten in a Christian/gospel lens by Nikki Grier, transforming songs by Roddy Ricch, Destiny's Child, SWV, and a lot more. Now I made it easier for you guys by digging through hours of their concerts and curating my favorite tracks together, so here's my take on gospel covers for lovers by the Sunday Service Choir. Enjoy! Tracklist can be found on my webiste in the Radio page, check me out on Instagram and Tik-Tok! @slowjamz.co https://slowjamz.co/blogs/radio/slow-jamz-radio-episode-004

On this episode of the pod, we talk Lil Uzi Vert getting a $24 million diamond pierced to his forehead, Kanye West getting sued for $30 million for underpaying the Sunday Service Choir, and Joe Budden inking a deal with Patreon. This led to an unexpected and broader conversation about the importance of black ownership and how capitalism has it's roots deep in the music industry. Ryan and Ibe also head up a conversation about Public Enemy and their personal experiences regarding the themes of their music.
