Talking Trek is BACK, and this episode comes packed with emotional updates, ridiculous comedy, and a massive Star Trek Fleet Command economy discussion. We start with server sound-off, the return of Talking Trek Stupid News, and a deeply questionable investigation into Demolition Man and the legendary three seashells. DJ also shares the personal story of Oliver's recent hospital emergency, the children's hospital team that helped him recover, and why child life programs matter so much. Then we dive into STFC with a full breakdown of Voyage Across the Void, the new weekly event structure, officer shard math, platinum concerns, battle pass changes, the mythic track, and what all of this may mean for the future of Fleet Command's economy. Is Voyage Across the Void a better system? Is the mythic battle pass worth it? Is G7 too expensive? Is Fleet Command finally trying to reset years of broken math, or did they just hand the player base a calculator and a headache? Let's talk about it. Download, stream, argue, laugh, and bring your spreadsheets. This one has feelings, math, mullets, and mild economic panic. 0:56 Welcome Back to Talking Trek Live 3:32 Bulk Claim Grief, Chicago Blame, and Sports Ball Confusion 8:23 Talking Trek Stupid News Returns 17:54 Demolition Man, the Three Seashells, and Maya's Diagnostic Failure 22:12 Where We've Been: Oliver's Hospital Story 31:21 Child Life, Therapy Dogs, and Gratitude for Children's Hospitals 38:54 Chicago, Pokémon GO Fest, and a Makeup Birthday Stream 41:00 Oliver Calls the Show and Requests App Approvals 45:40 The Oliver Debit Card Game Begins 52:00 Back to Fleet Command After the Hiatus 55:00 Voyage Across the Void Event Series Breakdown 58:00 Weekly Event Structure and New Permanent Sourcing 1:01:00 Daily SMS/SLB Rewards, Materials, and Missing Pieces 1:10:00 Produced Breakdown Wrap-Up: Is Voyage Across the Void Good? 1:13:00 Platinum Losses, Officer Shards, and First Impressions 1:22:00 Officer Depot Math and Weekly Reward Comparisons 1:34:00 Economy Reset Talk: Too Much, Too Fast? 1:40:00 Less Chores, More Choice: Cameron's Direction for STFC 1:49:00 Fun vs Rewards: Would Players Take Less for Better Gameplay? 1:55:00 M90 vs M91 Battle Pass and Mythic Track Discussion 2:01:00 Battle Pass Milestone Changes and Reward Rearrangement 2:07:00 Faction Credits, Platinum Conversion, and G7 Value Math 2:13:00 Battle Pass Value vs Player Sentiment 2:16:00 The Core Problem: Everything Costs Too Much 2:22:00 G3 Economy Memories and Lessons for G7 2:28:00 Omega Materials, Stat Squish Talk, and Economy Repair Ideas 2:34:00 New Players, Veteran Frustration, and the “First Pancake” Problem 2:37:00 Is Mythic Basically a Second Battle Pass? 2:40:00 Officer History, Battle Pass Memories, and Economy Wrap 2:44:00 Chicago Exhaustion, Production Day, and LEGO Enterprise Plans 2:48:00 GoWheel Updates, Meetups, and Community Travel Goals 2:52:00 Commercial Chaos: Mullets, Inflation, and Cereal Toys 2:56:00 Talking Trek AMA Begins 3:00:00 Athena Purchases, Shenanigans, and Ship Blueprint Questions 3:04:00 G6 Scrapping, QOL Leaks, and Rapid-Fire Chat Questions 3:08:00 Battle Pass Submissions, Mega Cube, Skydeck, and Final Questions 3:12:00 Final Plugs and Sign-Off

The strongest woman in the room is often the last one to let support in. Not because no one's offering, but because managing has been her strategy for so long she doesn't always notice when something is available. This episode is about that cost, and Ollie the goldendoodle is our way in.What You'll Learn:✅ The real difference between service animals, emotional support animals, and therapy dogs, and why it matters more than most people realize✅ What the science actually says about what animals do to your nervous system, including why oxytocin rises up to 300% during eye contact with your dog✅ Why being capable at managing everything is not the same as being okay, and what it quietly costs over time✅ How to pause before the next reflexive "I'm fine" and actually answer the question honestly✅ Three practical ways to start building the muscle of receiving support in low-stakes moments so it's available when the stakes are highChapters00:00 Who Is Really There01:19 Meet Ollie Birthday02:34 Ollie Therapy Work04:20 Service Animal vs ESA vs Therapy Dog07:04 Science Of Support09:20 Why We Resist Help11:26 Three Support Tips14:21 Guided Reflection Pause17:14 Share And Work With Me18:36 Happy Birthday OllieSend us Fan MailSupport the showNJ RESIDENTS, WORK WITH VANESSA Book a free 15-minute therapy consultation https://www.freetobemindful.com/contact LET'S STAY CONNECTED

Hanna Kemble-Mick is a school counselor, dean of elementary school counseling, a 2025 School Counselor of the Year® finalist, Therapy Dog mom, and Tech/AI enthusiast. The post Unlock the Power of AI in School Counseling with Hanna Kemble-Mick (EP183) first appeared on Grow Your WHY.
Subscribe: Spotify | TuneIn | RSS Hanna Kemble-Mick, school counselor, dean of elementary school counseling, Indian Hills Elementary School, Topeka, Kansas. Hanna is a 2025 School Counselor of the Year® finalist, Therapy Dog mom, and Tech/AI enthusiast. I met Hanna through her mom, Jerri Kemble, when they were presenting with firefly wings. Then I had a one-to-one conversation with Hanna, and that was it… she had to be a guest on my show. Your WHY and What Brings You Joy My “why” is building schools where students are truly seen, where creativity is valued, and where opportunity is not reserved for a lucky few. I root for the underdog, the underserved, and students in rural communities who deserve the same expansive possibilities as anyone else. What brings me joy is connection, continuous learning, dogs, polka dots, and the everyday magic of my students growing into who they are meant to be. Your Background (what it was like in school, growing up, what you always wanted to be) I grew up in a rural community with a big heart, where everyone knew each other and helping others was simply part of everyday life. My parents, Kurt and Jerri Kemble, modeled what it meant to show up for others, and that spirit carried through our town. All of my grandparents lived nearby, so my childhood was filled with time around their kitchen tables, lending a hand to neighbors, and taking part in community service. When I was little, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian because of my love for animals. I loved school and felt connected there until my senior year, when my mom became superintendent, and I transferred to the district where she worked. Suddenly, I felt out of place. In true teenage fashion, I joined the track team and filmed basketball games, volunteering for anything that would get me out of the building. Even then, I was learning how much belonging and environment shape a person's experience. I am fortunate to have a loving family and live in Lawrence, Kansas, with my husband, Dalton, two dogs, and a cat. Becoming a School Counselor: Describe what it meant to you when you figured out your calling. I graduated from college with a degree in advertising and began a career I genuinely enjoyed. I loved my job and deeply respected my boss, but something within me kept whispering that the work was not fulfilling my soul. I knew I wanted to make a different impact, so I decided to return to school to become a counselor. My boss met that decision with incredible kindness, allowing me to continue working while attending graduate school full-time, a generosity I have never forgotten. When I first contacted the counseling program, the response felt uncertain and discouraging. There were questions about whether this path was truly right for me and how a background in marketing and advertising fit into the counseling world. While I understand their perspective now, at the time, it planted seeds of imposter syndrome and left me wondering if I truly belonged. Yet, as the program continued, so did my clarity of purpose. I discovered that the skills I brought with me, including communication, creativity, understanding people, and connecting messages to meaning, were not detours but strengths. Looking back, I would not change the path at all. It shaped my resilience, deepened my empathy, and affirmed that this calling was exactly where I was meant to be. Junior Coaches Program Junior Coaches began as a restorative program designed to support students who struggle with peer conflict and behavior by building problem-solving skills and confidence. The group included older students who practiced these skills together and then took them to recess, where they supported younger students in navigating conflicts and challenges. This felt more comfortable and natural for them than stepping into that role with their own classmates, and it gave them a meaningful way to lead. Paws and Claws grew alongside it as a project-based learning group where students design, create, and donate pet products to a local animal shelter. I love both of these groups because they move beyond simply talking about skills and instead create depth through authentic skill-building. Students are not just learning what to do. They are practicing empathy, responsibility, collaboration, and problem-solving in real and meaningful ways. School Counselor of the Year 2025 Finalist Being named a 2025 School Counselor of the Year Finalist has been a wild and humbling ride. I still catch myself looking at photos from Capitol Hill and thinking, Did that really happen? It has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. https://videos.schoolcounselor.org/hanna-kemble-mick For a moment, you feel fully seen, valued, and celebrated as an educator and as a school counselor, and I find myself wishing every person in education could experience that kind of affirmation. The connections, friendships, and shared purpose have been next level. This truly feels like the gift of a lifetime. Through this experience, I have built lasting relationships with educators across the country and have had the opportunity to share my message about elevating school counseling and keeping it future-focused through keynotes and presentations in districts and conferences nationwide. I am deeply grateful to ASCA for opening doors I never imagined, and for creating an experience I wish every school counselor could have. Firefly Effect Presentations and more I have had the meaningful opportunity to present alongside my mom through the Firefly Effect and the Life Hack Lab for Women Who Lead. These experiences focus less on quick fixes and more on intentional navigation, introspection, and reflection. Together, we invite participants to pause, examine their paths, and reconnect with their purpose while building the courage to lead with authenticity and resilience. Sharing this work with my mom has made it even more special, blending a personal story with professional insight in a way that resonates deeply with the women we serve. AI Integration and what that means for Educators and School Counselors When I present on AI integration for educators and school counselors, I emphasize intentional use and meaningful impact. Rather than using technology for its own sake, I encourage professionals to ask why they are using it and how it supports students and strengthens their work. We explore how AI can expand access to support, streamline tasks, and open new pathways for learning, while remaining grounded in ethical, safe, and student-centered practices. At the same time, I stress as technology becomes more present in our lives, human skills become even more essential. Skills, like empathy, communication, critical thinking, self-awareness, creativity, and ethical decision-making, empower students to use technology. wisely and to thrive in a rapidly changing world. The goal is not to replace the human element, but to amplify it, empowering counselors and educators to extend their reach, deepen relationships, and better support the growth and well-being of the students they serve. In this groundbreaking episode, I sit down with John Grey, a law enforcement K9 handler who's doing the "impossible" - running a program with PUPPIES that are BOTH therapy dogs AND detection dogs (firearms/explosives).The traditional K9 world said this would never work:❌ "Puppies have too high a washout rate"❌ "Therapy dogs are low-drive couch potatoes"❌ "Labs can't detect anything"❌ "You can't do both - pick one"John's program is proving all of that WRONG.What We Cover:Why their puppy washout rate is LOWER than agencies buying adult dogsHow therapy work actually IMPROVES detection capabilityTraining while working (no pulling officers off the road)The massive PR and funding benefits agencies don't expectUsing rituals and signals to switch between therapy and detection modesWhy "crackhead" high-drive dogs are actually HARDER to work withHow obedience training makes detection dogs betterWorking in elementary through high schoolsAdding tracking to the mix (and the lessons learned)Why this ISN'T entrapment (they're NOT drug dogs)Real Results:✅ Lower washout rates than traditional programs✅ Enormous public support and funding✅ Dogs work effectively in both roles✅ Handlers train while maintaining regular SRO duties✅ Kids and community fully invested in the dogsJohn's agency is in Colorado, and they're working with organizations like Colorado Police K9 Association who now offer therapy dog certification. His company is Fundamentals First K9 Training and he's helping other agencies implement similar programs. This episode challenges EVERYTHING traditional K9 programs believe about drive, selection, training timelines, and what's "possible" with working dogs.Whether you're in law enforcement, education, or just love working dogs, this conversation will change how you think about K9 programs.

The best (and cheapest) therapy for those small things that get under your skin is sometimes a good venting session so you can get it off your chest and move on with your life! And if you're not privy to the first-hand vent-a-thon, then being a fly on the wall listening is hopefully equally therapeutic and also maybe entertaining. In this episode of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Podcast, host Kyle B. Enfield, MD, FCCM, speaks with Sumeet Rai, PhD, FCICM, senior intensivist at Canberra Hospital, about his study, “Pawsitive Care: Canine-Assisted Intervention for Anxiety in ICU Patients and Family Members: A Single-Center, Single-Arm Study,” published in the May 2025 compendium of Critical Care Explorations. Dr. Rai explains how positive anecdotal experiences of animal therapy in the ICU inspired his team to conduct this study. Guided by infection control protocols, they implemented a program allowing accredited therapy dogs to visit patients and families for 15- to 20-minute sessions. More than 60% of patients and more than 90% of family members had a clinically meaningful reduction in anxiety scores, and patients reported decreased pain. No adverse events were observed, demonstrating the feasibility and safety of this approach. Dr. Rai addresses the study's limitations, such as the impracticality of conducting a randomized trial, and highlights the need for research into staff well-being, which appeared to benefit from therapy dog visits. He also underscores the importance of a safety program, including infection control precautions. This episode offers practical insights for implementing animal therapy programs in the ICU and invites listeners to consider new approaches to improving mental health and well-being for patients, families, and staff. A frightening diagnosis can steal the air from a room. Nicole's story gives it back. From the shock of hearing “breast cancer” to the rhythm of surgery, sixteen chemo infusions and now the daily focus of radiation, she lets us into the real work of getting through it: making plans, asking for help and finding bright spots inside the hard days. As a mother of two and a community leader, she talks candidly about fear, the weight of uncertainty and the simple rituals that brought her peace. Those bright spots include a calm, golden-furred constant: April Sweetie, a therapy dog who turns infusion rooms into gentler spaces. With handler Larry, April visits cancer centers, ICUs and children's hospitals, offering a few minutes of ease to patients and the clinicians who care for them. We explore how therapy animals reduce anxiety and boost morale for healthcare teams who often need support as much as the people they treat. April's own journey from a breeding farm to hospital hallways mirrors the transformation that happens when care becomes truly human. For more content from Centra Health check us out on the following channels.YouTubeFacebookInstagramTwitter

In this episode of The Canine Paradigm, we welcome back Sam King from Therapy Dogs Australia to update us on the world of therapy dogs and their vital work with children. Since we last spoke, Sam was facing challenges, including navigating advisors who have tried to influence how these dogs should be trained.
