In this soulful and timely episode, I sit down with Dr. Melissa Sonners—chiropractor, author, and mother of three—for a deep conversation on navigating chronic illness, rediscovering inner wisdom, and healing in community. We talk about how neurological Lyme disease and mold toxicity shook her life—and how it ultimately became the catalyst for transformation.Melissa shares why rest and stillness matter more than most of us admit, how brainwave rhythms can radically shape our state of being, and why connection (to ourselves and others) is the real medicine we all need. We also dive into her upcoming book The Connection Code, which provides tools to reclaim your voice, values, and vitality—especially in a world that often feels isolating. From power hours to playful rituals, this conversation is a heartfelt invitation to start listening to what your body's been trying to say all along.HIGHLIGHTS[01:40] - How a wellness festival sparked reconnection and community[05:38] - Facing neurological Lyme, memory loss, and a full-body shutdown[12:14] - Why she ditched the "power hour" and built a nervous-system-friendly morning[22:08] - The two-minute practice that can reconnect you to your inner voice[33:58] - Creating true community by coming home to yourself[39:04] - The brainwave blueprint: Theta, Alpha, Beta—and how to live in flow[47:13] - The 3-part decision matrix: intuition, nervous system, and values[55:49] - Behind the book: how The Connection Code came to life[59:27] - Melissa's one message to a divided world: come back to who you areDr. Melissa's RESOURCESBest Friends Book Nook- an online book club for women: https://www.drmelissasonners.com/book-nookRegulate YOUR Rhythm: https://www.drmelissasonners.com/regulated-rhythmThe Connection Code: https://www.drmelissasonners.com/resources/connection-code-bundleMorning Self-WITH challenge: https://www.drmelissasonners.com/resources/5-day-challenge-of-being-self-withHow to Set the Tone for Your Day: Morning Sit Spot Ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7biHnjVFdkHow To Turn Your iPhone Screen RED [Block Blue Light At Night]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ3EFgs3CQg Upgrade Your Wellness:BEAM Minerals: http://beamminerals.com/beautifullybrokenUse code beautifullybroken for 20% offStemRegen: https://www.stemregen.co/products/stemregen?_ef_transaction_id=&oid=1&affid=52Code: beautifullybrokenSilver Biotics Wound Healing Gel: https://bit.ly/3JnxyDD (30% off)(Use Code: BEAUTIFULLYBROKEN for Discount)CONNECT WITH DR. Your body already knows if a man is safe—are you listening to it?Meg sits down with female libido specialist Elena Rossi to talk about the unspoken truth of women's pleasure: safety is everything. If you've ever wondered why you can't let go in the bedroom, why your libido is fading, or why some men just don't do it for you—this episode will hit home.Elena breaks down the 27 types of men women won't orgasm with (yes, she made a list!) and how women confuse attraction with safety. They get into spiritual gaslighting, the illusion of conscious men, and why safety isn't about muscles, words, or Instagram captions—it's about how a man actually shows up.Whether you're single, dating, or in a long-term relationship, this episode will change the way you think about sex, intimacy, and the kind of men you let into your body.Meg and Elena also riff on:What is the purpose of sex in a relationship? Why so many women feel used in sex (and how to change it)The illusion of “safe” men and why attraction ≠ safetyWhy spiritual men aren't always what they seemThe 27 types of men women won't orgasm withHow resentment kills desire (and how to bring it back)Three areas of safety every woman needs to checkThe real reason your libido is disappearing
CW: Mentions of alcoholism in the Cabernet discussion (specifically from around 34:45 to 38:20)This week we're discussing Cabernet, a game with a lot to say about the social construction of vampires, the cyclical nature of authoritarianism, and blood play.Editor's note: I cut out us deciding not to discuss a game because we haven't played enough but left a few vague mentions of it in. Description:I've met a lot of 6 and 7-figure agency owners over the years and there's always often a recurring theme…many are completely burned out, disgruntled OR they've sold or left the agency altogether. It's probably the main reason I personally prefer the “small shop or studio” route as a solopreneur web designer with a lean and mean contractor team but at the same time, there's value in truly creating a “business” in the form of an agency. But…are ALL agency owners burned out? No - despite meeting many owners who fit that profile, there are the exceptions. One is Greg Merriless of Studio1Design.com who's been running his 7-figure agency for over a decade and most impressively is one of the few who is NOT burned out! Maybe it's his chill, Aussie presence or maybe it's how intentional he was about building an agency that is profitable, sustainable and geared around the work he WANTS to do in house. We cover a lot in this one including:How his 7-figure agency began getting high-profile clientsHow to focus on your core services (and hire out the rest)How to build partnerships with agencies who you can collaborate withHow to find and hire a teamStaying profitable (even as a team of 20+ employees)And more.Honestly, how amazing is it that through this podcast, you and I can learn from multi-7 figure agency owners who literally share exactly how they've built and scaled their business?!?!? Have you ever thought about starting a coaching-based private practice? You're going to love this episode! I sat down with Emily Gavin who decided to take the leap into private practice with encouragement from her peers and spouse after being laid off from her job.In this episode, she talks about her journey from SNFs and inpatient rehab to owning her own dementia-focused business. Emily shares how caring for her mother-in-law with dementia inspired her special interest. Emily S. Gavin, MS, OTR/L, came to occupational therapy as a second career in 2012 at the age of 41. After a few years of clinical work in geriatrics, she transitioned into a management position at a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) in Philadelphia, PA. This non-traditional setting allowed her the freedom to develop specialized knowledge in dementia care training, though she always felt the vulnerability of being a middle manager. Being laid off in May of 2023 seemed like the perfect time to start PhillyCare Coaching LLC, the private practice she'd always thought of as the next thing.Emily hopes to complete her Post-Professional OTD at Thomas Jefferson University in late 2025. She has also earned an Advanced Practice Certificate in Coaching, and will soon be a certified practitioner of Skills2Care®, an evidence-based program supporting caregivers of people living with dementia. She uses the Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model to inform her treatment plans.Emily lives in the Germantown section of Philadelphia with her wife and four cats. Someday she will have time to knit again. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:The moment that brought Emily to become an OT and start a private practiceWhen she realized her passion for dementia patientsHow she kicked imposter syndrome to the curbHow long it took Emily to get her first private practice clientThe types of clients Emily works withHow she networked to grow her private practiceThe power of referrals in growing your private practiceI hope you enjoyed this episode with Emily! I love how she overcame imposter syndrome and remained persistent in opening her private practice. What is true self-care? What do you do for self-care?We're talking all about true self-care in today's episode. Self-care is an important part of a teacher's mental health, but there are misconceptions about what it is. Some teachers dismiss self-care as “selfish”. But for teachers, self-care is a lot more than taking a bath or treating yourself to a spa day and that's what we're talking about today. True self-care is about taking care of your mental health so that you're prepared to be the best teacher you can be for yourself and your students. True self-care is about doing things to make you more healthy so you can show up better for the people that need you.For this episode, I asked REAL members of our Wife Teacher Mommy community for their thoughts and advice on what true self-care looks like to them. We get to hear real responses and tips from real teachers just like you! Some teachers like to get their nails done. Others like to just be at home around their family and dog. True self-care doesn't look the same for everybody. Not only do we hear from real teachers about true self-care, we also talking about what you can do to reframe how you think about self-care, so that we can view it as not being selfish, but as being self-FULL. The more we fill our cup, the more we have to offer to others. So how do we fill our cup? We talk all about it in this episode. The most important thing when it comes to helping others, is to take care of yourself first. While taking a bubble bath, reading a book for enjoyment, or meeting friends for coffee might work immediately, sometimes more work needs to be done. Through using the tools necessary to take care of yourself, you're ultimately making yourself a more effective teacher for you and your students.
