In business we crave the ability to quantify everything, from our sales targets to the number of toner cartridges we use. Why shouldn't our people be the same? The ability to rank our employees in a given context and to assign performance-related perks (or not) has been the bread and butter of the average HR department for decades. Where would General Electric and Jack Welch be without them? In this episode, Mark Smith & Helen Frewin discuss the challenges and downsides to using rating scales. Given that many of us still need to use rating scales, we give practical tips on how to make the best of them. WOMEN SIPPING ON LIFE (with doctor shannon) | Stop Drowning | Start Sipping | Daily Inspiration | Hope | Certainty | Abundanc

What would you do if there was NO ONE to make responsible for you and your situation, but YOU? AND…YOU BELIEVED YOU HAD THE POWER TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.   What would YOU do?   “W.W.Y.D.”   YOU MUST OWN IT.   This is where YOU come in…YOU must do/not do it for YOURSELF.   However, you don’t have to do it all by yourself.   You can invite others into your life to help you BE THE SOLUTION.   To create what you desire.   What would that look like for you?   Here’s HOW.   1. Be Honest with yourself about YOU, and your HOPE, home, health, happiness.   Basically, how HARMONIOUS is your life?   What is working?   What’s not working?   Get clear.   Boldly, and confidently declare your desires.   Identify your options…your choices.   Make decisions.   2. OWN IT, and be OPEN to outcome, but not attached to it.   Take FULL responsibility, and ENGAGE with it.   When you OWN, you give yourself PERMISSION.   Per the mission.   Knowing our desires, and taking ACTION are more important than MAKING THEM HAPPEN.   Why?   Because when you KNOW, YOU GO. YOU GROW.   3. WORK.   EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVE ENERGY.   No longer expressing DESTRUCTIVE energy.   OWN YOUR ENERGY.   EXPRESS IT.   SEE YOURSELF AS YOU SEE YOURSELF.   Do you see yourself?   Or have you stopped seeing yourself because you’re so busy looking at everyone and/or everything that have become the reason you do NOTHING to create what you say you desire to create.   How do you see yourself?   What would it take for you to begin expressing yourself TODAY?   This is HOW…   Honesty. Ownership. Work.   It’s not about “THEM.”   Think WE…not HE, SHE, THEY, OR THEM.   “When WE work, our DREAMS WORK.” Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. In 1999, Food & Wine named Rocco DiSpirito as one of its Best New Chefs—a vote of confidence in the future of a brilliant young cook who earned the esteem of his peers as well as a rabid fanbase of diners captivated by the handsome fella who quickly became a staple of the gossip pages. Just a few years later at the height of his fame, DiSpirito walked away from the restaurant world, leaving colleagues and fans scratching their heads and spinning theories. DiSpirito shared his story with Food & Wine last year after returning to the restaurant world, opening up about his physical and emotional struggles, and taking care of his mother in the years before her death. A lot has changed in the months since the article came out, so we got on the phone with DiSpirito for a very frank and open conversation about the importance of mental health care (and how to get it), weathering loss and change, and feeling like a chef again even if circumstances are keeping you out of a restaurant kitchen right now.
