78: Will The Gym Turn You Right Wing?

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 13, 2025 46:19

Send us a textWhy is going to the gym being treated like a political decision? According to some media outlets, lifting weights might just be your first step down the pipeline to fascism. Sounds absurd, right? But articles like The Guardian's “Fascist Fitness” suggest otherwise, claiming that the far-right is recruiting through online fitness groups. In this episode, I dive into these claims and break down the alleged connection between fitness, masculinity, and conservative ideology. We explore how historical figures like Yukio Mishima and even Hitler tied strength to national identity. But does getting stronger really make you more right-wing? Or is this media hysteria gone wild?I examine the science behind these claims—discussing studies on testosterone, political alignment, and personality traits like parochial altruism. Does increasing your deadlift PR mean you're on your way to adopting far-right beliefs? Or are we oversimplifying how fitness influences personal growth? We also take a humorous look at gym culture—from the crass jokes to the supposed "fascist gyms" like the Barbell Strength Tribe described in academic articles. Plus, I share some wild Reddit takes on why gyms skew conservative and what that says about our broader cultural narratives around fitness.Spoiler: It's not about politics—it's about personal development. But the conversation around fitness, masculinity, and political identity is far from black and white.00:00:00 Intro00:03:09 The Guardian Articles00:06:08 Why This Is So Hard To Research00:06:44 Are There Even That Many People?00:08:27 The "GYM FASCISM" Article00:10:36 Is Fitness Homophobic?00:13:18 Why Does Fitness Feel So Politically Charged?00:15:24 How Physiology Impacts Your Politics00:19:00 Reddit: Why Do Gyms Skew Conservative?00:21:32 Is Fitness (and Conservatism) Selfish?00:22:47 r/AskConservatives00:24:34 What My Followers Thought00:26:09 How Personality SCIENTIFICALLY Impacts Political Preference00:26:59 Openness00:27:58 Conscientousness00:29:15 Extraversion00:30:34 Agreeableness00:32:02 neuroticism00:34:21 Heritable Mental Illnesses00:34:52 My Thoughts BEFORE Starting00:38:11 Why Are Conservative Pundits Healthier?00:38:32 Why Are Liberal Pundits Healthier?00:38:59 Every Fitness Influencer Is Conservative00:40:46 IS The Gym Even Masculine?00:44:20 Final Thoughts: Can You Transcend Your Genes and Upbringing?00:45:37 So Will The Gym Make You A Conservative?00:46:08 SLPLASH and outroSupport the show@RealAndrewBriggs @HolisticMotionco HolisticMotion.com

So, what can we do to protect ourselves? The video covers practical steps to reduce exposure to plastics and EDCs, such as choosing organic cotton clothing, switching to glass containers, avoiding plastic bottles, and opting for natural fibers in your wardrobe. We also discuss detox methods like sweating in the gym or sauna, and the importance of supporting regenerative farming practices. The science is clear: Microplastics and EDCs are disrupting our hormones and reproductive health, with studies showing significant damage to male fertility, shrinking AGDs (anogenital distances), and causing DNA fragmentation in sperm. These harmful effects are not just isolated to men; women are also affected, with evidence pointing to decreased ovarian reserve and reproductive capacity. We explore how microplastics enter our bodies through ingestion, inhalation, and skin absorption. From the food we eat, the water we drink, to the clothes we wear, the threat is omnipresent. The video highlights shocking studies, including findings of microplastics in human tissues and the alarming amount of plastic particles in bottled and tap water. The environmental impact is equally dire. Plastic mulch used in agriculture is contaminating our soil, and the relentless production of plastics is leading to an unimaginable amount of microplastic particulates in the air, water, and even rain. This widespread contamination affects wildlife, with research showing that cities near petrochemical plants have higher levels of genital malformations and fertility issues. But it's not just an environmental crisis—this is a personal health emergency. The potential link between EDCs and gender identity development is discussed, backed by studies indicating that phthalates might be contributing to feminization in males. The impact of these chemicals is complex, crossing anatomical, social, and political boundaries. As we discuss the implications of these findings, we also provide actionable tips for detoxifying your life. From eliminating plastic utensils and cookware to investing in air purifiers and sourcing your food from trusted, regenerative farms, every small step counts. The video also touches on how some communities, like the Amish, naturally avoid these toxins and maintain high fertility rates, suggesting that a return to simpler, more natural living could be key to overcoming these challenges.Lastly, the video addresses the grim reality that our overreliance on plastic is driving us toward an uncertain future. With evidence of plastics causing endocrine disruptions, fertility declines, and even gender imbalances, it's clear that this issue must be tackled head-on. Whether through individual choices or collective action, we must start reducing our exposure to these harmful substances now, before it's too late.Microplastics, Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, EDCs, plastic exposure, fertility issues, sperm count, detox, natural living, regenerative farming, holistic health, environmental crisis, plastic in food, water contamination, organic cotton clothing, petrochemical plants, hormone disruption, gender identity, phthalates, BPA, plastic pollution, toxic chemicals0:00 Intro2:21 What The Study Says5:13 How Does Plastic Get Into Us?8:14 Garbage Feeding/ Regenerative Agriculture11:16 Microplastics And Plants16:07 Microplastics And Water18:47 Clothing, Can you Absorb Plastic Through Your Skin?24:20 MY Preferred Clothing Solution26:52 Inhaling Microplastic30:25 Microplastics And Male  Fertility37:02 Microplastics And Children40:26 Microplastics And Women42:14 The Government KNEW About This48:48 Male Birthrate Dropping50:26 Microplastics And Gender Dysphoria55:28 How To DetoxSupport the Show.@RealAndrewBriggs @HolisticMotionco HolisticMotion.com

74: Why Is Intermittent Fasting Causing Heart Attacks?

Play Episode Listen Later May 29, 2024 16:06

Is intermittent fasting a potential trigger for heart attacks? Recent research has uncovered startling findings, suggesting a link between time-restricted eating and an up to 91% increased risk of death from cardiovascular diseases. Victor Wenze Zhong, the study's lead author, expresses confusion over why his research found such an association. This revelation has sent shockwaves through the health community, especially given the long-standing praise of fasting for its numerous benefits, including improved insulin sensitivity, reduced inflammation, enhanced mental clarity, and even purported improvements in heart health. With a backdrop of media frenzy and sensational headlines, it's crucial to delve deeper and uncover the full story behind these claims. As a staunch advocate of fasting, I believe in its potential, but also recognize the need for a balanced and well-researched perspective. This video represents 15 hours of meticulous research, yet I confess, there remains a critical issue I have yet to fully decipher. The Origin of Fasting:You've likely tried fasting or know someone who has. The concept of intermittent fasting has become a popular health strategy only recently, although its practice dates back much further, often intertwined with cultural and religious rites. However, the modern adaptation—time-restricted eating—carries distinct definitions and intentions, which are crucial in understanding its implications on health. The Study in Question:Derived from data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), this study tracked approximately 20,000 U.S. adults over an average of 8 years. It highlights potential errors in self-reported dietary recalls, a common issue in nutritional research, which could skew results. Furthermore, the study doesn't account for other significant health influences, which could be critical in evaluating the true impact of intermittent fasting.Expert Opinions:The study reports that restricting eating times to less than 8 hours a day may significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular mortality. However, it's essential to note that the typical fasting window recommended is usually 16:8, not less than 8 hours. The findings also suggested that longer eating durations might reduce cancer mortality among those with the condition, presenting a complex puzzle of diet, health, and longevity.Controversies and Context:Zhong's comments reflect a frustration with the nuances of dietary research, emphasizing the need for personalized dietary advice. Meanwhile, other experts like Christopher D. Gardner, PhD, point out gaps in the study, questioning the nutritional quality of the diets and the reliability of categorizing fasting based on minimal data.https://newsroom.heart.org/news/8-hour-time-restricted-eating-linked-to-a-91-higher-risk-of-cardiovascular-deathhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772487523000429?via%3Dihubhttps://www.nbcnews.com/health/heart-health/intermittent-fasting-risk-cardiovascular-death-rcna143853Self reporting PMID: 32719809Trackers PMID: 34957939Support the Show.@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Sanders challenges the long-held belief that saturated fat is harmful, citing historical and emerging research that suggests otherwise. He emphasizes the adaptability of human diets across different environments, advocating for a return to whole, nutrient-dense foods as seen in ancestral eating practices. The conversation delves into how flawed scientific studies have shaped public perceptions of diet and health, particularly concerning heart disease and cholesterol levels. Sanders criticizes the influence of food industry lobbying on dietary guidelines, which often prioritize commercial interests over health. He also questions the validity of the "Blue Zones" concept, arguing that it oversimplifies the complex factors contributing to longevity.Highlighting the role of traditional diets in preventing modern diseases, Sanders supports regenerative agriculture and sustainable food production methods that align with natural dietary principles. He calls for a reevaluation of health industry biases and promotes informed dietary choices based on a blend of historical wisdom and scientific evidence. This dialogue with Brian Sanders offers a critical look at the myths and truths of nutrition science, urging viewers to rethink everything they know about food, health, and longevity in the context of ancestral knowledge and modern scientific insights.Support the Show.@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Starting with a critical look at a study featured in the NY Post, which suggests that "too much protein is bad for your arteries," Andrew questions the validity of these claims, pointing out the study's reliance on genetically modified mice prone to heart disease. He argues that applying these findings to humans is like comparing apples to oranges, especially when considering the specific types of protein and the conditions of the study.Delving deeper, Andrew exposes the bias in how these studies interpret protein consumption, highlighting the problematic generalization of all protein sources as equal contributors to heart risk. He challenges the notion that a high percentage of Americans consume excessive protein, debunking this with a practical analysis of what 22% protein intake looks like in real life. Through this, he emphasizes the importance of context, including the role of processed foods in the average American diet, and how it skews our understanding of protein's impact on health.Addressing the mechanistic study that pins leucine—an amino acid found in animal-derived foods—as a villain in cardiovascular health, Andrew critiques the leap from cellular studies to broad dietary recommendations. He points out the absurdity of demonizing specific nutrients based on isolated data, suggesting a more nuanced approach to nutrition that considers individual needs and balances. The video doesn't just stop at criticism; Andrew provides a balanced view by acknowledging the potential benefits of high protein diets, especially in combating obesity—a far more significant risk factor for heart disease. He calls out the fear-mongering surrounding protein and advocates for informed, nuanced discussions on nutrition that avoid sweeping generalizations and fear-based dietary advice.Wrapping up, Andrew issues a warning about the recurring theme of attacks on animal-derived foods, especially leucine-rich proteins, positing a broader agenda at play. He encourages viewers to look beyond the headlines, question the narratives, and make dietary choices based on comprehensive understanding and personal health goals. For anyone tired of the confusion and sensationalism surrounding nutrition, Andrew invites them to Holistic Motion for straightforward, no-nonsense health and fitness coaching. This video isn't just a debunking of myths; it's a call to action for a more informed, critical approach to what we're told about our diets.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

In this video, we delve into the controversial claim made by a massive 45-year study involving 22,000 twins that suggests "Exercise is BAD for you," sparking widespread disbelief and debate. The study's assertion that regular exercise only marginally extends lifespan has been met with skepticism, prompting a closer look into its methodology, which categorized participants' physical activity levels through self-reporting, and used epigenetic clocks to assess biological aging. Despite criticisms regarding self-reporting accuracy, the study's nuanced findings reveal a U-shaped curve where both extremely low and high levels of activity could accelerate biological aging, challenging simplistic health narratives. The public reaction to the study highlights a broader societal trend towards health denialism and the search for easy health solutions, exemplified by movements like "healthy at every size." This response underscores the dangers of oversimplifying complex health issues into binary good/bad narratives, overlooking the importance of moderation and the interplay of various healthy behaviors beyond exercise alone. The video encourages viewers to adopt a holistic view of health, questioning popular narratives and considering genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors in shaping individual health outcomes. As we wrap up, the video emphasizes the importance of critical thinking in interpreting health studies and the need for a balanced, informed approach to health and fitness. Shea's path to sobriety began not with a dramatic event, but a moment of quiet realization. For years, he had leaned on alcohol as a crutch, a companion in times of stress and celebration alike. It was a familiar part of his routine, a social lubricant at gatherings, and a nightly ritual to unwind. Yet, as time passed, Shea noticed the toll it was taking - mornings were harder, his health seemed to be on a gradual decline, and there was a persistent fog clouding his thoughts. One morning, Shea looked in the mirror and saw the undeniable truth: alcohol wasn't his friend; it was a chain holding him back from his true potential. This realization hit him with a clarity that was both startling and liberating. He remembered his dreams, ambitions, and the vibrant life he once envisioned - a life that seemed increasingly out of reach with each passing day of indulgence. That day, Shea made a decision. He decided to break free from the cycle of dependency, to rediscover the strength and vitality he once took pride in. It wasn't an easy journey; the road to sobriety was filled with challenges and moments of temptation. But with each sober day, he felt a little more like himself - more clear-headed, more energetic, more alive. He started to appreciate the small joys of life, the kind that alcohol had dulled.Embracing sobriety, Shea found himself on a path to holistic health. He realized that being sober wasn't just about abstaining from alcohol; it was about a deeper, more profound healing. It was about reclaiming control over his life, his health, and his happiness. Shea's story is a testament to the transformative power of sobriety, a reminder that the key to true wellness often lies in letting go of what harms us, to make space for what heals us.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

We begin with a quote from Jonathan Swift in 1710, "Everything old is new again," highlighting how various trends and practices from the past are being rediscovered by millennials and given a modern twist. The video explores the concept of silent walking, its origins, and its benefits, emphasizing that it's essentially a form of meditation and mindfulness. It questions why millennials are often quick to mock Gen Z for embracing this practice while they themselves have "rediscovered" many things from the past, such as knitting, analog music, journaling, and retro gaming. The video also touches on the importance of meditation and offers a 30-day free trial for the Waking Up app by Sam Harris, a tool for practicing mindfulness and meditation. It concludes with a reminder that many practices and trends resurface over time, and how "everything old is new again."Remember to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts on whether millennials or Gen Z are taking the "L" in this scenario. Holistic practices encompass a broad spectrum of health and wellness approaches, emphasizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. While many holistic methods hold great promise in promoting overall well-being, the field is not without its share of controversies and quackery. Differentiating between effective holistic practices and dubious "snake oil" remedies is essential to make informed decisions about one's health. Chiropractic care, often considered a holistic approach, is a case in point. While some chiropractors offer legitimate musculoskeletal therapies, others have been criticized for making unverified claims about their methods and their ability to address a wide range of health issues. As with any holistic practice, it's important to do thorough research and seek recommendations from trusted sources when considering chiropractic care. One holistic practitioner who has gained recognition for his approach to holistic wellness is Colin Carr, a Holistic Lifestyle Coach based in Austin, Texas. Carr's methodology emphasizes personalized wellness plans that incorporate various elements of physical fitness, nutrition, and stress management. Building a business around holistic coaching, as Carr has done, can have both positive and negative impacts on one's personal life, particularly relationships. While it provides a platform to share one's expertise and help others, it can also lead to time and work-related stress, affecting the work-life balance. Two other holistic practices worth mentioning are Neurosomatic Therapy and Functional Medicine. Neurosomatic Therapy focuses on the connections between the nervous system and musculoskeletal issues, aiming to address chronic pain and discomfort. Functional Medicine is a patient-centered approach that seeks to identify the root causes of illness and create individualized treatment plans. Both of these approaches highlight the holistic perspective of addressing underlying issues rather than just managing symptoms, demonstrating the potential of holistic practices to positively impact health and well-being when conducted by trained and ethical practitioners.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

62: The New Gym Slump - Revive Your Motivation

In the world of fitness, there's a unique challenge that many of us have faced at one point or another—the dreaded new gym slump. It's that feeling you get when you have to bid farewell to the gym where you've built your lifting buddies, achieved personal records (PRs), and navigated your workouts blindfolded. Perhaps you've moved to a new city, faced a problem that your old gym couldn't solve, or even worse, your ex has become a regular there, making each visit an exercise in awkwardness. No matter the cause, this challenge can seem Herculean in nature. Yet, fear not; there's a way to conquer it and emerge victorious. The Quest for the Perfect Gym:Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a new gym that not only scratches all the itches your old one did but also eliminates or minimizes its drawbacks. Thankfully, you're in luck because Andrew, our guide through this fitness odyssey, has spent a whole year mastering this art after relocating to a new city. He's ready to share this wisdom with you, just as a mother bird feeds her young. So, let's embark on the journey of overcoming the new gym slump. The Unique Nature of the New Gym Slump:First, let's make it clear that the new gym slump is not your typical fitness motivation dip. Those can usually be solved with a change of scenery or workout routine. The new gym slump, however, is a beast of its own. It uproots all your established training patterns. Your drive is different, the parking spot you always found available has vanished, and the familiar chit-chat with the front desk staff is no more. Even the gym's flow—when equipment is available—feels foreign. It's as if everything you once knew has been turned upside down.Learning from POWs:To tackle this unique challenge, we can draw inspiration from an unlikely source—prisoners of war (POWs). Now, you might wonder how the experiences of POWs can help you overcome a gym slump. The key is simplicity and the focus on one day at a time. While few people can predict what they'll be doing in seven months, almost everyone knows what's on the agenda for tomorrow, or at least tomorrow morning.Consider the story of Bill Robinson, the longest-held enlisted POW who survived seven grueling years in Vietnam. His secret? The "3-day plan." He didn't dwell on long-range goals; instead, he focused on the immediate: yesterday he was shot down, today and tomorrow, he's going home. Apply this mindset to your gym journey—today, you're hitting the gym, and tomorrow, you'll be back in the swing of things. Repeat this cycle, building on small victories, until you're back to peak performance. Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" is a recommended read for those seeking inspiration in mindset and goals. Now, let's get practical with the steps to conquer the new gym slump:Start by catching up on sleep and maintaining a balanced diet to regain your energy and strength.Next, search for gyms near you using Google.Identify three gyms that roughly fit your needs and are within a 15-20 minute drive.Read reviews and schedule visits to these gyms, allocating at least a day for each.Try out these gyms at your typical exercise time.If you're uncertain after trying them, remember the associate who assisted you initially and give yourself one week to decide. Don't forget to schedule a follow-up if needed.Create a support system, whether through a gym buddy in better shape than you or by hiring a trainer who's a fitness role model.Announce your return to the fitness scene on social media and grant your friends permission to hold you accountable.Embrace POW Bill Richardson's 3-day method: focus on completing today's workout, then look forward to tomorrow.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

In this thought-provoking video, we delve into the world of lab-grown meat, exploring its potential benefits, environmental impact, and potential drawbacks. As food engineers strive to make lab-grown meat a viable alternative to traditional animal agriculture, we take a critical look at the promises, challenges, and implications of this emerging technology. The Promise of Lab-Grown MeatLab-grown meat, also known as cultured meat, holds the promise of revolutionizing our food system. It aims to address the ethical, environmental, and health concerns associated with conventional animal farming. Scientists use animal cells in bioreactors to produce meat that mimics traditional meat without the need for raising and slaughtering animals. Proponents tout its potential to reduce animal cruelty, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and alleviate the pressure on global food resources. The Scalability Dilemma While lab-grown meat shows great promise, scalability remains a critical challenge. As we explore the race to commercialize cultured meat, it becomes evident that investors are largely backing a vision rather than a proven reality. The lab-grown meat industry faces tremendous financial and technical hurdles to make it a viable and affordable option for consumers. The true potential impact of lab meat on the mainstream market remains uncertain.Health and Nutritional ConcernsAs we contemplate the future of lab-grown meat, health-conscious consumers question its nutritional profile. Will it be a truly healthy alternative or just another processed food laden with artificial ingredients? With the potential for engineered flavors and nutritional content, there's a fear of repeating past mistakes, such as the rise of unhealthy processed foods. Additionally, concerns arise about potential links to cancer, as the process of culturing cells mirrors cancer cell growth.Socioeconomic ImpactA vital consideration is the democratization of lab-grown meat. Historically, designer foods start with the wealthy before becoming accessible to the masses. The concern is whether lab-grown meat, if successful, will become just another nutritionally-devoid food option for the economically disadvantaged. It raises questions about accessibility, affordability, and equitable food systems.Environmental and Ethical ImplicationsOne of the selling points of lab-grown meat is its lower environmental impact compared to conventional animal agriculture. However, there are valid concerns about the emergence of antibiotic-resistant super bacteria in bioreactors. Moreover, the ethical question arises: Is lab-grown meat truly a sustainable and humane solution, or should we focus more on plant-based alternatives that don't involve animal cells? It's evident that this technology presents both opportunities and challenges. While it holds the potential to revolutionize the food industry and address critical issues, its realization is far from certain. The quest to make lab-grown meat a viable, scalable, and ethical solution requires transparency, rigorous research, and careful consideration of its socioeconomic and environmental impacts. Only time will reveal if lab-grown meat truly lives up to its promises or remains an ambitious yet elusive dream.https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1707322114https://onpasture.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Eating-less-meat-won%E2%80%99t-save-the-planet.pdfhttps://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.04.21.537778v1.full.pdfhttps://www.motherjones.com/food/2021/08/is-lab-meat-about-to-hit-your-dinner-plate/https://thecounter.org/lab-grown-cultivated-meat-cost-at-scale/https://doi.org/10.21273/HORTSCI.44.1.15https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnut.2020.00007/fullSupport the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Intuitive eating has gained significant attention in recent years as an alternative approach to traditional dieting. It emphasizes tuning into one's body cues, promoting a healthy relationship with food, and rejecting external rules. While intuitive eating offers numerous benefits, it is crucial to explore potential dangers that individuals may not anticipate. In this article, we will examine the pros and cons of intuitive eating and shed light on the potential pitfalls it may entail.Pros of Intuitive Eating:Embracing body acceptance: Intuitive eating encourages individuals to appreciate and respect their bodies, regardless of size or shape. By focusing on internal cues rather than external standards, it promotes a positive body image and a healthier self-esteem.Reconnecting with hunger and fullness: This approach emphasizes listening to internal hunger and satiety cues, allowing individuals to develop a more attuned and mindful relationship with food. It helps individuals recognize when they are truly hungry and when they have had enough, leading to more balanced and enjoyable eating experiences.Mental and emotional well-being: Intuitive eating recognizes the impact of emotional and psychological factors on our eating behaviors. It promotes a non-restrictive approach, reducing feelings of guilt, shame, and deprivation associated with traditional diets. This can lead to improved mental health and a more positive overall well-being.Cons of Intuitive Eating:Weight loss expectation: While intuitive eating is not primarily focused on weight loss, some individuals may approach it with the misconception that it will result in shedding pounds. It is essential to understand that weight loss is not guaranteed, and the focus should be on overall health rather than solely on the number on the scale.Misinterpreting cravings: Intuitive eating encourages honoring cravings and allowing all foods in moderation. However, individuals may misinterpret this as a license to indulge in unhealthy choices without considering the nutritional value of the foods they consume. Balance and nourishment should remain essential factors in making food choices.Lack of structure and guidance: For individuals who thrive on structure and specific guidelines, the freedom provided by intuitive eating may feel overwhelming. Without proper guidance or education, they might struggle to find a healthy balance and may revert to old patterns of disordered eating or overeating.Possible Dangers:Ignoring underlying health conditions: Intuitive eating promotes body acceptance and trust in internal cues. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that certain health conditions or dietary restrictions require specific attention. Ignoring these conditions may have negative consequences on one's health.Misinterpreting hunger and fullness cues: While intuitive eating encourages listening to internal cues, some individuals may struggle to accurately interpret their body's signals due to various factors such as emotional eating, external influences, or disordered eating patterns. This can lead to overeating or undereating, negatively impacting one's nutritional balance.Lack of nutritional knowledge: Without a solid understanding of basic nutrition principles, individuals may struggle to make well-informed food choices. While intuitive eating allows for flexibility, it is important to maintain a balanced diet that meets the body's nutritional needs.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Join us as we embark on an enlightening journey, unraveling the truth behind these topics that have significant implications for our health and well-being.Unveiling FDA's Corruption:The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our food and medicines. However, investigations and reports have exposed instances of corruption and industry influence within the agency. This raises serious questions about the FDA's ability to prioritize public health over corporate interests, compromising the trust we place in their regulatory decisions.Redefining "Healthy":In response to evolving scientific knowledge and consumer demands, the FDA has reevaluated and updated its definition of "healthy" foods. The aim is to provide more accurate information to help consumers make informed choices. However, critics argue that this process can be vulnerable to industry manipulation, potentially obscuring the true nutritional value of products and allowing misleading claims to influence consumer perceptions.Harnessing the Power of Elimination Diets:As individuals become more aware of their unique dietary needs and seek ways to optimize their health, elimination diets have gained popularity. By temporarily removing specific foods or food groups from their diet, individuals can identify potential sensitivities or allergens that may be causing health issues. This process of elimination and subsequent reintroduction empowers individuals to make informed choices about their diet, promoting overall well-being.The Influence of Con Agra:Companies like Con Agra hold significant sway over the food industry. With their extensive reach and diverse product offerings, they can shape consumer trends and influence regulatory decisions. Understanding the influence of such corporations is essential in assessing the impact they have on our food choices and the overall health of the population. Conclusion:As consumers, it is our responsibility to stay informed and remain vigilant about the integrity of our food industry. By exploring topics like FDA corruption, the evolving definition of "healthy," the benefits of elimination diets, and the influence and corruption of companies like Con Agra, we can make better-informed decisions for our health and well-being. Let's demand transparency, accountability, and prioritize our own health as we navigate the complex landscape of the modern food industry.#healthy #FDA #Conagra Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

50: The Truth About Trans Athletes: How Is it Affecting Women?

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 20, 2023 47:47

Transgender athletes competing in women's sports have been a topic of controversy in recent years. The issue has been brought to light by several high-profile cases, including those of Riley Gaines, Lia Thomas, Laurel Hubbard, Fallon Fox, Janae Marie Kroc, and more recently Anne Andres and the Avi Silverberg competition. One of the main arguments against transgender women competing in women's sports is the potential for them to have a competitive advantage due to their biological sex at birth. This argument is based on the fact that male bodies tend to have certain physical advantages over female bodies, such as greater muscle mass, bone density, and lung capacity. In the case of Riley Gaines and Lia Thomas, Lia being a MTF athlete boasting incredible gains in their ranking, and Riley Gains being one of the few to speak out about it.Similarly, Laurel Hubbard, a transgender weightlifter from New Zealand, faced controversy when she became the first openly transgender athlete to compete in the Olympics.Fallon Fox, a transgender mixed martial arts fighter, faced backlash when it was revealed that she had previously competed in men's MMA before transitioning. Critics argued that Fox had an unfair advantage over her female opponents due to her past experiences as a male fighter.Janae Marie Kroc, a transgender bodybuilder, faced criticism when she competed in bodybuilding competitions, with some claiming that she had an advantage over her female competitors due to her prior male physiology. However, Janae wasn't competing against women. Why is that?Anne Andres and Avi Silverberg are the most recent addition with a biological male setting a weightlifting record that was previously set by a trans athlete.Caster Semenya, a South African middle-distance runner, faced controversy when the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) implemented new rules limiting testosterone levels for female athletes with differences of sex development (DSD). Semenya, who has a naturally high level of testosterone due to her DSD, was forced to take medication to lower her testosterone levels in order to compete.Biden, Wolrd athletics and several other sports board are trying to get a handle on this all... but how are they doing it all?In conclusion, the issue of transgender athletes competing in women's sports is a complex and controversial one. While there is some evidence to suggest that transgender women may have a competitive advantage over biological women, there is also a need to balance the rights of transgender athletes to participate in sports with the need for fair competition.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Obesity is a growing problem in many parts of the world, with millions of people struggling to maintain a healthy weight. While obesity can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, those who suffer from obesity often face discrimination and oppression in their daily lives. One of the most common claims of oppression from those who are obese is that they are discriminated against in the workplace. Studies have shown that obese individuals are less likely to be hired for certain jobs, and are often paid less than their non-obese counterparts. In addition, they may be passed over for promotions or be given less challenging tasks than their colleagues.Obese individuals also face oppression in the healthcare system. Many doctors and healthcare professionals hold negative attitudes towards obesity, which can result in inadequate treatment or a lack of empathy for their patients. Obese individuals may also be subject to weight-based stigma from healthcare providers, which can discourage them from seeking medical care. The media and entertainment industries also play a role in perpetuating oppression towards those who are obese. Advertisements and popular culture often depict overweight individuals as lazy, gluttonous, and lacking in self-control, perpetuating negative stereotypes and discrimination. Finally, obese individuals may face oppression in their personal lives as well. They may be subject to verbal harassment or physical violence, and may find it difficult to find romantic partners or form meaningful relationships due to weight-based stigma.Overall, those who suffer from obesity often feel oppressed and discriminated against in a variety of ways. While there are certainly health risks associated with obesity, it is important to address the social and systemic factors that contribute to oppression towards overweight individuals. By promoting body positivity and combating weight-based discrimination, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable society for all.But I'm going to do my best to cover all of these.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Welcome to today's episode, where we'll be discussing the impact of bioconcentration on the meats we eat, and how high-quality soil can help alleviate some of these issues.First, let's define bioconcentration. Bioconcentration refers to the process by which substances like chemicals and pesticides become concentrated in an organism's tissues as it consumes food or water containing those substances. When animals consume contaminated plants or water, those substances accumulate in their bodies and can pose health risks to humans who eat them. Now, when it comes to the meat we eat, there are a few terms you may have heard of: organic, pasture-raised, GMO, Roundup, chemicals, and grass-fed. Organic and pasture-raised meats are often considered to be of higher quality, as they are raised without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. GMO meats, on the other hand, are raised using genetically modified organisms that have been altered to resist certain pests or diseases.Roundup is a common herbicide that is often used to control weeds in conventional farming practices. Unfortunately, it has been linked to various health issues in humans and can also impact the quality of the meat we consume. When animals are raised on contaminated soil or fed contaminated feed, they can accumulate these harmful substances in their tissues. This is where the concept of high-quality soil comes in. By using sustainable farming practices like crop rotation, cover cropping, and composting, we can improve the health of the soil, which in turn improves the health of the plants and animals that rely on it.Grass-fed meats are another option for those concerned about bioconcentration. Grass-fed animals are raised on a natural diet of grass and other forages, which reduces the amount of grain and other potentially contaminated feed they consume.Bioconcentration is a real concern when it comes to the meat we eat. By choosing organic, pasture-raised, and grass-fed options, and supporting sustainable farming practices that prioritize healthy soil, we can reduce our exposure to harmful substances and enjoy meat that is both delicious and nutritious.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

For people who are passionate about fitness and working out, buying them gifts can be a bit of a challenge. While there are many different types of gifts that you can give to gym rats, it can be difficult to find something that they will truly appreciate. One of the most common gifts that people give to gym rats is supplements. While supplements can be very helpful for people who are trying to build muscle or lose weight, not everyone likes taking them. In fact, many gym rats have very specific preferences when it comes to the supplements that they use, and they may not appreciate receiving something that they won't use.Another common gift for gym rats is clothing. While workout clothes can be a great gift for some people, gym rats tend to be very particular about the types of clothes that they wear to the gym. They may have very specific preferences when it comes to materials, styles, and brands, which can make it difficult to choose the right gift. So, what can you do if you want to give a gift to a gym rat? The key is to think outside the box. Instead of focusing on supplements or clothing, try to find something that will support their fitness goals in a different way. For example, you could consider giving them a fitness tracker or a workout journal. These types of gifts can help them track their progress and stay motivated as they work towards their goals.Another option is to give them a gift card to a fitness or sporting goods store. This will allow them to choose the supplements or clothing that they want, without feeling like they have to use something that they don't like.In the end, buying gifts for gym rats can be a bit of a challenge, but it's not impossible. By thinking outside the box and focusing on gifts that support their fitness goals in different ways, you can find something that they will truly appreciate.Support the show@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Finding the perfect gym can be a daunting task, especially with the plethora of options available today. However, there are a few key factors to consider when selecting a gym that meets your needs and helps you achieve your fitness goals.Firstly, consider the relevance of the gym to your fitness goals. If your primary aim is powerlifting or bodybuilding, it's important to choose a gym that provides appropriate equipment and facilities, such as squat racks, bench presses, and free weights. For those looking to focus on wellness, a gym with classes in yoga, Pilates, and meditation may be more appropriate. Group fitness classes can also be a great way to stay motivated and have fun while getting fit.Secondly, price point is another crucial factor to consider. Most gyms offer various plans at different price points, including monthly, annual, and multi-year memberships. It's important to choose a plan that is within your budget and includes the facilities and classes you need.Thirdly, the length of time that the salesperson has worked at the gym can provide a good indication of a healthy work and gym culture. Experienced salespeople who are passionate about fitness and helping their clients reach their goals can provide valuable advice and support.Next, be sure to read the fine print, including cancellation fees, contracts, membership benefits, annual fees, and amenities such as a kids club. These details can often be overlooked but can be important to understand before signing up for a gym. Finally, tour the gym during peak hours to get an idea of how busy it is. If the gym is too crowded during the times you're most likely to work out, it may not be a good fit for you.To get three bonus tips and one warning on finding your dream gym, please watch the rest of this video. Having a specific goal: Setting a specific, achievable goal can help you stay motivated and on track with your weight loss journey. For example, instead of just saying "I want to lose weight," try setting a goal like "I want to lose 10 pounds in the next three months." This goal is specific, measurable, and achievable, and it gives you a clear target to work towards.Being meticulous in tracking: Keeping track of what you eat and drink, as well as your physical activity, can be a helpful way to monitor your progress and identify areas where you can make changes to help you reach your weight loss goals. There are many tools available to help you track your intake, such as food and fitness apps, or you can simply use a notebook and pen to record your daily intake and activity.Having a plan: Developing a plan for how you will achieve your weight loss goals can be an important step in your journey. This might include making changes to your diet and exercise routine, as well as setting a schedule for when you will eat, exercise, and track your progress. Having a clear plan can help you stay organized and on track, and it can also make it easier to make healthy choices when you are busy or have other commitments.Defining what fitness means to you: Everyone has their own ideas about what fitness means, and it's important to define what it means to you so that you can create a weight loss plan that works for you. This might include setting goals for yourself that are related to your overall health and well-being, rather than just focusing on the number on the scale.Burning the bridges: When you're trying to lose weight, it can be helpful to "burn the bridges" by getting rid of unhealthy food and drinks that might tempt you to stray from your goals. This might involve throwing out junk food or beverages that are high in sugar or calories, or simply not keeping them in your house. By doing this, you can make it easier to stay on track and focus on making healthy choices.@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement

Delayed gratification is the ability to resist the temptation of an immediate reward and instead wait for a future reward that is often greater. This concept is best known for the famous "Marshmallow Test" conducted by Stanford University in the 1960s. In the study, young children were offered the choice between one small reward (such as a marshmallow) that they could have right away, or two rewards if they were willing to wait a few minutes. The results of the Marshmallow Test showed that the children who were able to wait for the larger reward had better outcomes in life, including higher SAT scores and lower rates of obesity. This suggests that the ability to delay gratification is an important factor in success and achievement. In the context of weight loss, delayed gratification can be a powerful tool. When it comes to losing weight, many people are tempted to give in to their cravings for unhealthy foods or skip workouts in favor of more immediate pleasures. However, those who are able to resist these temptations and focus on their long-term goal of a healthier body are more likely to achieve their weight loss goals.Delayed gratification also requires a certain amount of discipline and self-control. It can be difficult to resist the lure of an immediate reward, especially when it comes to food. But with practice and determination, it is possible to develop this skill and use it to achieve your weight loss goals. In conclusion, delayed gratification is an important factor in weight loss and overall success. The ability to resist temptation and focus on long-term goals can lead to greater achievements, including a healthier body and a better quality of life.@andrewPFM @PrideFitnessandMovement
