Financial stress has a way of getting into everything—your sleep, your conversations, your sense of security, and even your peace with God. This devotional opens with an honest picture many people recognize: the cost of living rising, unexpected expenses piling up, and the uneasy feeling that no matter how hard you work or how carefully you plan, you’re still barely getting by. When budgets are tight and debt feels heavy, anxiety can hit fast with a single thought: How are we going to recover from this? What makes the situation even more discouraging is when you’ve tried to do the “right” things—avoiding unnecessary spending, saving where you can, and giving faithfully—yet still feel trapped. The devotional doesn’t shame that struggle. Instead, it reminds us that Scripture takes money seriously and speaks to it often, because finances reveal what we trust, what we fear, and what we serve. Philippians 4:19 offers a steady anchor: God promises to meet our needs according to His riches in Christ. That doesn’t mean believers are guaranteed wealth or a problem-free financial life. But it does mean we are not abandoned. God’s provision is real, and He invites us to live with open hands—using money as a tool rather than a master, practicing generosity with joy, and seeking wisdom to steward what He has entrusted to us. In seasons where money is tight, the devotional encourages a posture shift: from panic to prayer, from striving alone to seeking God’s discernment. Faithfulness isn’t just about giving; it’s about honoring God in the way we save, spend, plan, and respond under pressure. When we ask God to show us where to adjust, to build healthier habits, and to trust His care, we begin to experience His guidance and peace—often one practical step at a time. Main Takeaways Financial pressure can stir fear, but God invites us to bring that anxiety to Him. God doesn’t promise prosperity, but He does promise faithful provision for our needs. Scripture calls believers to steward money wisely, not be mastered by it. Generosity and gratitude are part of trusting God, even in uncertain seasons. Asking God for wisdom can lead to practical changes that reduce stress and honor Him. Today’s Bible Verse And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19 Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Show us areas where we can improve… Grant us ways to foster healthy habits with our income… as we give, save, and spend wisely.” You can listen to the full prayer here, or read the prayer and devotional at the links below. *This episode mentions suicide and may be triggering for some listeners. This week, in celebration of Super Bowl Sunday, we’ll hear from Tim Green, a former NFL player, bestselling author, and commentator. Tim, who now speaks with the assistance of technology due to a diagnosis of ALS, reflects on a life marked by ambition, the identity-shaking diagnosis of this neurodegenerative disease, and the perspective that transformed his understanding of what matters most in life. Later in the episode, we’ll hear from Mike Flynt, whose story inspired the 2023 sports drama film The Senior. One day when talking with his friends, Mike shared one of his deepest regrets—getting kicked off the college football team as a senior. When asked, “Why don’t you do something about it?” Mike decided to pursue a second chance, and became the oldest linebacker of a college football team in NCAA history at age fifty-nine, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. My life’s work now is about family, about helping others, and about using whatever time and gifts God has given me to make a difference.” - Tim Green “God had other plans—plans that were bigger than anything I could have imagined. Looking back, every step prepared me for the next one. He was weaving the story long before I knew it.”- Tim Green “What really matters is your faith, family, and identity in Christ—not in a jersey or a job. Football gave me a platform, but it’s faith and family that gave me a purpose.” - Tim Green “My diagnosis forced me to confront what really matters—to put Christ at the center, not tucked quietly in the background. It made every day, every relationship, every breath more precious and more purposeful.” - Tim Green “One morning, I woke up with a clarity I didn’t create that this wasn’t the end of my story. I realized that God had left me here for a reason. Maybe to show that even in suffering, His goodness can still shine. That moment was a second chance, and I wasn’t going to waste it.” - Tim Green “Prayer became less about asking and more about resting. Peace came in small moments—a hand held, a smile, a sunset—reminders that God was still here.” - Tim Green “Every chapter of my life has required a deeper anchor than achievement. When the applause stops, when the career ends, when the body fails, you need a foundation that won’t.” - Tim Green “It was my profession of faith in Christ, and my realization that I know so little about Him, that started me on my journey in faith that I still pursue today.” - Mike Flynt “So many people need to know that somebody else has overcome and that Christ was there and they can take that same concern, those same weaknesses, to Him and know that if He did it for Mike, He’d do it for anybody.” - Mike Flynt ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! There's a point in many recovery journeys where insight stops being the problem. You know what to do. You understand your patterns. And yet… change still feels hard. In this episode, I talk with Paula Robbins, author of Hitchhiking Into Recovery, who has over 37 years of sobriety, about why that happens—and what actually sustains healing over the long haul.     The Ride That Opened the Door Paula's recovery didn't begin with a dramatic intervention. It began when she was picked up hitchhiking in 1988 by someone living a sober, connected life. That single interaction mattered because it interrupted isolation. Not with willpower. With connection.     Addiction Is a Disconnection Problem Paula grew up with trauma, neglect, and instability. Alcohol became a way to shut down overwhelming emotions long before she had language for what was happening. By age 12, she was drinking to blackout. What stands out isn't just the trauma—it's what was missing: Safety Emotional guidance Consistent connection Addiction wasn't a moral failure. It was a survival strategy.     Feelings Aren't Facts One of Paula's most grounding principles is simple: Feelings and facts are not the same. Recovery didn't eliminate difficult emotions—it created space to respond instead of react. That pause is where real change happens.     The Four Pillars That Sustain Recovery After decades of sobriety, Paula distilled what actually works into four stabilizing forces: Community – healing happens in relationship Mentorship – someone to help you see clearly Service – contribution rebuilds self-esteem Daily spiritual alignment – prayer, meditation, or quiet time These pillars show up in every effective recovery model because they address the root issue: disconnection.     Divine Alignment vs. Self-Will Paula explains divine alignment not as certainty, but as a felt sense. When she's controlling outcomes, she feels restless and tight. When she surrenders—even briefly—things soften. Sometimes all it takes is the simple phrase: "Thy will be done."     A Gentle Reminder If change feels hard, it doesn't mean you're failing. It may simply mean effort isn't the missing piece—connection is.     One Small Action Try just one: Strengthen one pillar that feels weak Take a 5-minute daily pause Offer one small act of service Notice a feeling without acting on it Healing doesn't require fixing yourself. It starts with not doing it alone.     Resources Mentioned Hitchhiking Into Recovery 12-Step Recovery Programs Step 3 Prayer Step 11: Prayer and Meditation Service work in recovery Guest Contact Info:

https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260205dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7 Mercy If mercy were easy, Jesus wouldn’t have needed to preach about it. Mercy means showing compassion when it isn’t earned and giving kindness when it isn’t deserved. Mercy steps toward people who disappoint us, inconvenience us, or wound us, which are not usually moments when we feel particularly “blessed.” That is why Jesus’ words might surprise us: “Blessed are the merciful.” The world often views mercy as a sign of weakness. Jesus calls it evidence of a heart transformed by grace. To understand mercy, we start not with what we give, but with what we’ve been given. Think about the mercy Christ has shown you. He saw you long before you cleaned up your behavior or learned Christian vocabulary. He saw you tangled in sin, burdened by guilt, and unable to fix yourself. And instead of turning away, he drew near. Mercy carried him through dusty villages to the forgotten and the broken. Mercy led him to wash the feet of his disciples who would soon abandon him. Mercy moved him to pray for his executioners even as they drove nails through his hands. Mercy kept him on the cross, where he took the punishment you and I had earned so that we could receive the forgiveness we could never deserve. That is the mercy that saved you. And that mercy now shapes your life. When Jesus calls you blessed for showing mercy, he isn’t saying you earn God’s favor by being kind enough or forgiving enough. He is saying that those who know his mercy begin to reflect it. Mercy is not a task to perform but a fruit that grows in a heart touched by grace. The same mercy that met you at the cross meets you again every morning, covering your failures, lifting your spirit, and renewing your ability to show mercy to others. You give mercy because you live from mercy. And that makes you blessed indeed. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the mercy you show me every day. Let your compassion soften my heart, guide my words, and shape my actions, so that others may see your love through me. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. A Prayer to Resist Wanting What Others Have by Rachael AdamsComparison often sneaks in quietly—especially in places where dreams, callings, and success feel close enough to touch. In this episode by Rachael Adams, we explore how envy can take root in our hearts, even when we love Jesus and genuinely want to celebrate others. We unpack the difference between coveting what others have and trusting God with our own unique calling. God invites us into a life of peace, contentment, and joy—one that isn’t threatened by another person’s success. Reference: Proverbs 14:30 Prayer: Lord, thank you for how you've created me and for the unique blessings and gifts you've given me. Forgive me for being covetous of other people's personalities, appearance, possessions, and accomplishments. When I start feeling envious of another person, remind me to celebrate with them and genuinely desire their success. Help me not to be complacent, but to be content with myself. Children have a remarkable way of experiencing the world. Simple moments—a puddle, a song, a favorite food—can fill them with joy and amazement. But as adults, responsibilities and routines often crowd out that sense of wonder. Life can shrink to the size of our to-do lists, even though God invites us into something far bigger. Jesus’ words in Matthew 18 remind us that childlike faith and humility are not immature traits—they are essential to experiencing the kingdom of heaven. Childlike wonder opens our eyes to see God as both infinitely powerful and intimately near. It nurtures trust, helping us rely on God’s promises without overanalyzing or giving way to worry. When we pause to marvel at what God has already done—especially the salvation we have through Christ—it becomes easier to trust Him with what we face today. Wonder shifts our focus from our problems to God’s power, from control to confidence in His care. It restores joy, allowing us to rediscover the extraordinary wrapped inside everyday life. Living with childlike wonder doesn’t mean ignoring responsibilities. It means approaching life with humility, trust, and joyful expectation—choosing to see God at work and to delight in His presence each day. Main Takeaways Childlike wonder helps us experience God’s kingdom more fully. Humility opens our hearts to trust God’s promises without fear or overanalysis. Remembering what God has already done builds confidence for what He will do next. Wonder restores joy by helping us see God’s power and love in ordinary moments. Today’s Bible Verse “And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’” – Matthew 18:3, NIV Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Reawaken the spirit of the child within me so I can fully enter into Your wonderful kingdom… Let wonder restore my joy.” Listen to the full prayer here or read the full prayer and devotional through the resources below. There's a moment in Mark 10 where Jesus stops everything for a blind man crying out on the side of the road.Bartimaeus doesn't pray a polished prayer. He doesn't say the right words. He just asks for mercy. And when the crowd tells him to be quiet, he cries out even louder. In this short devotional, we talk about why so many men stay vague with God, why the crowd often pressures us to keep it together, and why Jesus asks a simple but confronting question:“What do you want me to do for you?”You don't need to clean it up.You don't need to stay quiet. You just need to be honest.

Have you been praying the Lord's Prayer all wrong? We sit down with Brad Gray and Brad Nelson from Walking The Text to discuss their book Bringing Heaven Here and their cinematic feature film on the Lord's Prayer. And trust us, this isn't your Sunday school recap. Our conversation explores the historical, geographical, and biblical context of the most familiar prayer in Christian theology, revealing layers you've probably never noticed: Exodus connections, first-century Jewish cosmology, the kingdom of God as spiritual warfare, and why Jesus structured this prayer as the blueprint for kingdom living.Turns out, the Lord's Prayer isn't just something to recite—it's a declaration of war against the forces of darkness and a daily roadmap for partnering with God's mission on earth. We explore how "Our Father in the heavens" (yes, that's plural!) connects to ancient Israelite cosmology, why the kingdom of God is the heartbeat of Jesus's ministry, and how every line of this prayer maps onto Christ's life and mission. We'll also tackle spiritual warfare from a biblical perspective, challenging both hyper-charismatic extremes and the dangerous denial that evil is real. If you've ever felt stuck between "there's a demon behind every bush" and "spiritual warfare isn't really a thing," this episode will recalibrate your understanding.Plus, we get into the nerdy stuff: the Didache's instruction to pray this three times a day, the connection between the Shema and daily prayer rhythms, how liturgy functions as operating software for the soul, and why the Sermon on the Mount is structured with the Lord's Prayer at its center. If you've been treating the Lord's Prayer like a religious formality, prepare to have your mind blown. This is about joining Jesus in the mission of bringing heaven to earth—pushing out chaos, advancing God's rule and reign, and living with eyes wide open to the war unfolding around us.0:00 – Introduction5:35 – Why create a book on the Lord's Prayer8:34 – The Lord's Prayer as blueprint for life14:24 – How the prayer condenses Jesus's ministry23:16 – "Our Father" and the Exodus 4 connection31:38 – "In the Heavens": Ancient Jewish cosmology44:54 – Spiritual warfare and advancing God's kingdom55:46 – Resources and closingABOUT THE GUESTS:

https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260204dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4 Jesus Gives Us Comfort At first glance, Jesus’ words sound contradictory. Blessed are those who mourn? Most of us spend our days trying to avoid sorrow, rather than embracing it. We fill our schedules, distract our minds, and tighten our emotional armor so we don’t have to face the things that hurt. Mourning doesn’t feel like a blessing. It feels like breaking. But Jesus knows something we often forget. Sorrow has a way of bringing us to the end of ourselves so that we can find our beginning in him. When Jesus speaks of those who mourn, he certainly includes those weighed down by the griefs and losses that come with living in a broken world. But Jesus also speaks of a deeper mourning: sorrow over sin. There is a particular kind of ache that comes when God's Word exposes truths we’d rather not face. And here is Jesus’ promise: “They will be comforted.” Not “might be.” Not “if they pull themselves together.” They will be comforted. The comfort Jesus gives is not the shallow reassurance that things aren’t so bad. It is the deep comfort of forgiveness fully won at the cross. It is the comfort of a Savior who sits with you in the ashes and lifts your chin to remind you that your sins are nailed to his cross and cannot condemn you anymore. It is the comfort of a Shepherd who walks with you through the darkest valleys and promises that no grief will have the final word, not even death. His empty tomb guarantees it. So, if you live today with sorrow, whether sorrow over life’s wounds or sorrow over your own sin, hear Jesus’ gentle blessing. You are not abandoned, forgotten, or cursed. You are blessed because Christ comes near to comfort you with mercy that does not run dry. Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to bring my sorrows and my sins to you. Comfort me with your forgiveness, strengthen me with your presence, and fill my heart with the hope only you can give. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com    What if our prayers were simply admissions rather than confessions…  What do I mean? Most people pray begging God… telling him what he already knows, asking for things he already said he would provide. We are confessing our doubts to him rather than praying simple confessions… that is what the word of God already says about a situation… we confess what Gods word says.    1. The Core "Postures" of Prayer These are the different intents or "heart-settings" mentioned throughout scripture: Petition (Supplication): Simply asking for what you need. From the "daily bread" in the Lord's Prayer to Paul's instruction in Philippians 4:6 to "let your requests be made known to God." Intercession: Praying on behalf of others. Abraham interceding for Sodom or Paul praying for the early churches are classic examples. Thanksgiving: Shifting the focus from what you want to what you have. The Bible often pairs this with petition—gratitude is the "atmosphere" in which prayer should happen. Lament: A raw, honest cry to God in pain or frustration. About a third of the Psalms are laments, showing that God welcomes our "unfiltered" emotions. Adoration & Praise: Prayer focused entirely on God's character rather than your own needs.

A Prayer for Love That is Kind by Rachael AdamsThe transforming power of God’s kindness is often revealed through the people He places in our lives.Today's episode by Rachael Adams invites us to reflect on how acts of kindness—through prayer, presence, words, and deeds—can bring joy even in seasons of deep pain.We look to Scripture, examining the friendship between Jonathan and David as a powerful example of selfless compassion, loyalty, and God-centered love. Their story challenges us to embody kindness even when it costs us something. Reference: Colossians 3:12 Prayer: Father, thank you for your kindness. I'm grateful you don't expect me to repay it. How could I? Help me to recognize the kindness of others toward me and not take it for granted.
