Have you ever wanted to grow your own native plants? Where can you get California native seeds? Should you sow them directly in the ground or start them in pots? Is there anything you should do to the seeds before planting them? What time of year should they be planted? How should the soil be prepared? What are some common mistakes to avoid? What are some good plants to start with? Is this the end of the lawn as we know it? Join me and restoration ecologist Dr. Julia Michaels as we explore Hedgerow Farms, which grows native wildflower and grass seed for ecological restoration projects. In the first half of the episode, learn how native seed is produced on a large scale at the farm, and in the second half, find out how you can use native seeds to grow thriving native plants and increase the biodiversity of your own backyard. Alejandro García Contreras. Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico. Su primera exposición individual “Stardust we are, stardust we will be” fue presentada en la galería Proyecto Monclova en 2007. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dominiopublico/message

It's National Transfer Student Week! In this episode, we hear from Alejandro Garcia, a member of the Class of 2022, about the many factors he considered in determining his educational path and how a service-focused curriculum has shaped his Princeton experience. But first, Dr. Keith Shaw, director of transfer, veteran and non-traditional student programs in the Emma Bloomberg Center for Access and Opportunity, offers an overview of the support and resources available to transfer students and his own advising role within the programs. Princeton's Transfer program, which was reinstated in 2018, looks for a small group of exceptionally well-prepared students from a range of backgrounds, and we particularly encourage applications from students from low-income backgrounds, community college students, and U.S. military veterans. About Alejandro Garcia '22 Alejandro Garcia is a politics concentrator pursuing certificates in Latin American studies and American studies at Princeton University. As a member of the second group of transfer students admitted to Princeton, Garcia holds an associate in arts degree from the Miami Dade Honors College in political science. Prior to transferring, Garcia was recognized as the top transfer student in Florida and among the top ten transfer students in the nation as a Hites Transfer Scholar, All-USA Academic Team Scholar, and New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar. He was also recognized with the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, the most prestigious transfer scholarship recognition. Garcia's professional and research interests lie in the intersection between law and political institutions, as he aspires to improve access to civil rights, education, and professional opportunities for underdeveloped and underrepresented Hispanic communities. At Princeton, he serves as a co-founder and president of the Princeton Transfer Association, a student organization focused on representing, advocating, and improving Princeton's non-traditional student and transfer experience. About Dr. Keith Shaw Dr. Keith Shaw is the Director of Transfer, Veteran and Non-Traditional Student Programs. A native New Jerseyan, he earned his B.A. in history at Rutgers, and his doctorate in political science at Stanford. At Princeton, Keith teaches the transfer cohort's Writing Seminar, “Everyone's an Expert,” along with the academic writing curriculum for the Warrior-Scholar Project.

Welcome to Mystery in the Radio Waves. I’m your host Elizabeth McIrvin. Mystery in the Radio Waves is a podcast where a cast of actors and comedians perform a classic radio play and then improvise jokes, characters, and stories. What the heck are radio plays and where do they come from? Well...The Golden Age of Radio was an era of radio in the U.S. in the 1920's to the 1960's where the main source of entertainment was radio programming before people owned televisions on a larger scale. The programs would have the same range as tv shows today. There were weekly medical dramas, romances, mysteries, true crime, etc. It's such an interesting part of entertainment history that we hope to revive a little on this podcast. Just the great storytelling, not the racist/sexist crap. This week we perform a classic radio play called “Lonely Hearts” from the series “Richard Diamond, Private Detective. The original airdate was May 18, 1951. After the play we get into some improv! Thank you so much for listening! Please rate and subscribe! It really helps us out! You might think it’s virtually impossible to discover new work by a playwright who’s been dead for nearly 400 years, but that’s just what Alejandro Garcia-Reidy of Syracuse University did in 2014. He talks about his work with Lope de Vega’s Mujeres y Criados (Women and Servants), a play that sheds new light on the important and prolific playwright from Spain’s “Golden Age.”

David Alejandro Garcia the rejuvenator to an old family trade. He was the first generation in his family line to born outside of Texas. He grew up in the south side of Chicago but after the events of 9/11 he left to enter the United States Marine Corps at MCRD. Station in Camp Pendleton, CA he served Honorably until 2006. He then traveled north a few hours to Los Angeles where he became a commercial diver and then earned a job topside as one of the Superintendents to a private stevedore firm at the ports of Los Angeles. There he learned about supply chain management, logistics, and global relationships to eventually have the skill set needed to start The Syndgar Trading Co. The biggest turning point his life in his words: When I lost my corporate job. I was 34 but closer to 35 possessed an MBA and various business certifications. I was too old and too educated to start at the bottom and not well known to be back in the top layers. Even the Air Force rejected my interest in Officer Candidate School as I would have been 35 during training. I felt that if I did not start my own business that I would fail in life, sink or swim. https://syndgartradingco.com/ If you enjoyed this episode please Comment Share and leave a review... Options Bootcamp 38: Triple Income Trading Basic Training: The Wheel Trade A great trade for novice options traders. Our friends at RCM call this the "triple income trade" or "the wheel of fun." What is it? Write a put to get long equity, then immediately write a call to sell equity. When should you use it? When should you not use it? This is a great way to add some extra bang to your covered call trades. Mail Call: Fabulous questions, insightful answers. Question from Bit Tim: You recommend closing out your shorts when they go your way. Do you advise factoring the closing price of the trade in to your calculations when writing options? For example - write a put for $.30, but know at the onset that you will only collect $.25, because you will close it out for $.05. If more people did that at the outset, they might be less reluctant to close out their winner for a profit. Question from Jack - I know you guys are not tax advisors, and so nothing you say can be taken as certain in any answer to this question. I am a small time trader, and at the moment cannot afford a CPA with trading expertise in options to do my taxes. So I am wondering if you can talk about the potential tax consequences of front spreads, especially when used as covered call replacements? I have had good success with this strategy, and I would like to move it into my margin account this year, instead of just using it in the IRA to avoid the tax headache. Question from Alejandro Garcia, NYC - Given Wang's experience in the Chinese market, I would be interested to hear John's take on the impending launch of listed options in China in April. Does he think it will be a success? What will the popular strats will be with Chinese options traders?

A family farm at the brink of failure – Alejandro Garcia’s Costa Rican coffee farm was at substantial risk of failure. So, he left the five-generation family farm to go work in the US where he saved $40,000 working in a family-style buffet restaurant. A meeting with destiny – Alejandro (Alé) came back home, invested his hard-earned money in coffee processing equipment, and changed the trajectory of the coffee farming business. The key was a chance meeting with Ken Lander, an American who had retired to Costa Rica and bought a coffee farm. Ken’s retirement was shaken by the financial crisis of 2008. His gentleman’s coffee farm was now needed to feed his family. He learned that making a living as a coffee farmer doesn’t add up. The test model – Over the next 2 years, they forged ahead with Alé’s equipment and coffee knowledge, and Ken’s business acumen. They vertically integrated the supply chain by processing, roasting, packaging and then selling their own coffee. The trouble with “fair” – Ken and Alé shared their story, over many cups of local coffee, to people who were amazed to learn of the economic plight of the vast majority of coffee farmers. Despite a host of “fair” programs and “green” certifications the basic lot for the farmer remained unchanged. Demand for their high quality coffee quickly outstripped supply, so they partnered with other local farmers, offering to do all of the processing needed to sell the coffee. They split the revenue from the“vertically-integrated-supply-chain coffee”. They generated returns back to the farmers that exceeded “fair trade” by up to 10x. www.thrivefarmers.com
